Most people still think I’m just a playboy that will never settle down. They don’t know that the night I spent with Melonie months ago changed all that. I finally get to relive that night after my best friend’s wedding. Maybe it was both of us getting caught up in the mood of the wedding, maybe it was the time we’ve been spending together, maybe it was the tequila. Little did I know that spending the night with Mel would change my life all over again. But I did know it was everything I’ve wanted. Now I just need Melonie to realize I won’t give up until she knows she’s the one.
He had a good explanation for leaving that night. I would have done the same if I were in his shoes. But that doesn’t mean I have to like him. So why do I spend another night with him after my best friend’s wedding? My world is turned upside down when I come away from that night with a little more than I bargained for. Can I trust Linc to be there? Are men really capable of change? And am I ready for someone to call me mom?
"You make me feel cared for. You're consistent and strong. You make me feel wanted in a way I've never felt before. I want to stay right here with you. I want to be yours."
After absolutely loving the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to jump into the second one, and I'm so glad I did! While accidental pregnancy isn’t usually my favorite trope, the author handled it so beautifully here. I appreciated how both main characters tackled their situation like adults, navigating their feelings and new circumstances. Their character development was fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed their journey together.
Linc is such a unique character! He wears his heart on his sleeve, is a big fan of giving hugs, and isn’t shy about showing his emotions. Even though he’s a bit of a playboy who usually shies away from relationships, the moment he meets Melonie, it’s clear she’s captured his heart. I loved how he approached the news of her pregnancy—immediately declaring he was all in! Watching him take care of Mel and stand up for her, especially in front of her mom, was just so sweet. He knows he loves her but gives her the space to figure out her feelings at her own pace, which is lovely to see.
"I've loved you for so long. I feel like I've been screaming it, and you couldn't hear me."
Melonie, on the other hand, is super independent and capable. She struggles with letting people in, and given Linc's playboy past, it's tough for her to trust him. I loved that we got to see her vulnerable side as she gradually opened up. It took some time, but the way she began to accept her feelings for Linc was truly heartwarming.
Their journey together was a joy to read! I loved how mature they were and how much respect they had for each other. They put aside their differences to create a loving environment for their child, making their relationship feel natural. Plus, the friendship between Jax, Audrey, Linc, Melonie, Marcus, and Gigi added fun and warmth to the story – their bond was amazing! Overall, this was a great read, and I can't wait to see more of their adventures in the future!
"Sometimes, when things get rough or when we're the most conflicted, the best things happen."
we love a man who isn't afraid to show his emotions. This whole book was so cute. I was not a fan of Mel's mom though. Thank you to luna literary for the arc.
If there was ever a book I would recommend, it would be Pieces of Us. I thoroughly enjoyed Linc and Mels story so so much. Even though there was trauma, and an accidental pregnancy, it was done well and going through their journey, this story brought out their love for one another. True undenying and unwavering love.
I'm obsessed with Linc, (as you may or may not know) as he is who we all need. Hot 🔥 sweet and caring AF 😍 takes care of Mel, with no questions asked. He gives her what she needs, sometimes even before she knows. He respects her. And his mouth 🥵 🫠
I know it took Mel a bit longer to meet him there, but she did it, all on her own. And once she knew, that she loved him back and wanted him, girl, did not hold back. And don’t let Mel fool you, she’s got a mouth on her too. They truly were perfect for each other.
Thanks Ashley and Luna management for the opportunity to read this book early in return for my honest thoughts.
UPDATE: Not only did I get the privilege of BETA reading this book, but I also got to be an ARC reader for Ashley through Luna Literary Management.
If you’re new here, accidental pregnancy books and I have a rough relationship. It’s usually 50/50. Which means when I read one I love I want everyone else to read it too! So PLEASE if you’re one of those people like me that doesn’t always love this trope, give this one a chance. Ashley handled their relationship so beautifully and I felt it was such a natural progression to get where they ended up from where they began. Now, did I want to yell and shake some sense into Melonie at times? Yes, duh. But did I celebrate and cheer when she finally realized what Linc was offering her? Also, yes. Y’all, this man 😮💨
Trigger warning: On a personal note, I’m a NICU mama and provided some beta feedback that Ashley took and ran with. It truly warms my heart so much that she would reach out beyond the Google doc comment to ask about my experience and then incorporate it into the book. Thank you, Ashley 🥹
Tropes: Reformed playboy Frenemies to lovers Accidental pregnancy Roommates Bossy in bed MMC He falls first/she falls harder
Ashley Warren is a new author to me and I have to say this book will definitely not be my last of hers. I can't wait for her next book in this series!! Marcus' character has me so invested. And I can't wait to go back and read Audrey and Jax's story!!
This series was full of the most loveable characters. Even their parents had me with hearts in my eyes. I adored Linc's mom. Her character was such a good flip from Mel's mom! I loved the relationship that she created with Mel.
Linc had to have been one of the most golden retriever MMCs I have read about in a long time. This sweet man wore his heart on his sleeve. He wasn't afraid to shed a few tears. Or even a lot of tears. It left me swooning so hard for this man. The way he took care of Mel. And immensely jumped into the role of a father. It was all so perfect. Mel and Linc were so perfect together! I loved watching them find their way to each other.
"If she wants a sparring partner, I’ll gladly be it."
If you're looking for a book full of loveable characters, this one is definitely for you!
🌸 Enemies to friends to lovers 🌿 Accidental/surprise pregnancy 🌸 Forced proximity 🌿 Possessive MMC 🌸 He falls HARD 🌿 No third act breakup!
I grab her hips and press my cock against her. “Tell me what you want, Melonie.” She turns around, her breasts pressed against me. “Ruin me.”
“Fuck, Mel, I’ve thought about your mouth on me so many times, but this? You on your knees for me? It’s better than anything I’ve imagined.”
This book was SO cute!! But don’t let the sweet cover fool you, our mmc has a ✨filthy✨ mouth on him! I fell in love with these characters and their story. The side characters were so fun, the development of Mel and Linc was done so well, the spice was HOT! I highly recommend this book!! Thank you so much @ashleywarren.author for the opportunity to read this as an ARC💜
Linc is the epitome of the perfect man. He is thoughtful, caring, respectful, all in, swoony, and supportive. He falls first for her and is all in with Melonie when she finally tells him that she is pregnant after their second one-night stand.
This book had me in my feelings. I giggled. I cried. I loved how Linc cared for Mel so deeply. He respected her and her feelings at first and was there to support her when she didn’t want anything from him. He continued showing up and showing her that she could trust him and that he was there for her. Eventually her feelings of friendship turned into feelings of love.
I loved Mel’s character arc and how she went from only wanting to be friends with benefits to growing feelings and eventually admitting to herself that she loved him and couldn’t live without him. Their story is touching and heart-felt and I love stories that hit me right in my emotions.
(I know this was a little all over the place. Sorry)
This was my first Ashley Warren book and I will absolutely be back for more. Her character development of Lincoln and Melonie is well done and the plot has one of the best progressions I have ever read!
Linc and Mel meet one another out one night and there is an instant spark between them. As they spend the night consumed by one another, they decide they both want the night to go on. After what appears to be the best night for them both, Linc discovers a connection between him and Mel that could be disastrous. Will Linc’s rash decision to split in the middle of the night cost him what could be the best thing to ever happen to him?
I love a good second chance and accidental pregnancy trope. If it has it, I’m reading it. Ashley wrote both of these perfectly. As Linc and Mel are a bit older, these two tropes are done with accurate maturity and you see an actual adult relationship play out. You see two people put aside their feelings and differences in hope of creating a supportive relationship/environment for a child to come into, even if that is hard for each of them for their own reasons. Linc is in touch with his emotions and isn’t shared to lay it all out there, we all need a man like Linc. Mel is fiercely independent and definitely has a little trauma that keeps her from seeing what Linc is offering and what she really wants out of life. Linc respects Mel and her wants but he is also always in the background ready to be everything she needs when her feelings finally catch up to his.
Also these two in the bedroom… they both have mouths on them and don’t hesitate to ask for what they want. If you know me, you know I love when they can communicate in the bedroom & take what they want!
I absolutely will be going back to read the first in the Ladies of Back Bay series while I eagerly wait for Marcus & Gigi. Thank Ashley and Luna management for this ARC read!
Another short, sweet & spicy love story for the Ladies of Back Bay.
You might love this if you like: golden retriever MMC, black cat FMC, age gap (she's older), accidental pregnancy, found family, forced proximity (roommates), & high spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Thank you to @lunaliterary.management & the author for an eARC. This review reflects my honest thoughts and opinions.
This was just okay for me. Unfortunately, I don't particularly enjoy the writing style. I experienced more telling vs. showing and some super short sentence structure that made the reading experience kinda choppy.
Linc (our MMC) is the greenest of green flags. I actually loved his character and my heart ached for him throughout this story. When he said "I've loved you for so long. I feel like I've been screaming it, and you couldn't hear me," I wanted to cry.
Melanie (our FMC) kinda pissed me off the entire book. I hated the way she treated Linc and really struggled to empathize with her.
Accidental pregnancy is a pretty controversial trope with a lot of people hating it. I never had an opinion and this was actually my first accidental pregnancy book. I kinda loved it...I LOVED seeing Linc's response to the pregnancy. Again, greenest of green flags. I liked that the pregnancy was introduced before the halfway point and wasn't introduced as a 3rd act conflict or a way to keep the main characters together.
This book is an ARC obtained via Sign-up. There was no obligation to post/review this book with a certain rating. All views are my own, and reflect my honest thoughts, and opinions. Thank you to: Luna Literary Management (@lunaliterary.management) for this amazing opportunity! I had the most enjoyable time working with you!
I was given this book as an ARC after sign-up via Instagram. I’d been immediately drawn in by the blurb, and wanted to read this book a lot.
Going in I was a bit wary because the initial Hook and Inciting Incident left more than a bit to be desired in my personal opinion, but I continued reading because the ending of it all had me undoubtedly curious. That initial feeling could also be due to The Pieces of Us being the second book in the series, something I should’ve done my research on before I began reading (I hadn’t had the privilege of reading the first book before I signed-up for the ARC, so yeah—that’s on me).
The MMC, Linc, and the FMC, Melanie, start the book out with a one night stand. If I’m being honest, the dialogue there was a bit stiff and redundant, which could make the reading experience a little rough if that’s something you’re particular about; but it’s not terrible, and honestly in some moments it’s very cute in a soft and quirky kind of way (Although, there was a lot of overuse of the nickname “Pretty boy” even during spicy scenes which isn’t my vibe and broke immersion for me; but again, that was something that is personal preference). Linc’s demeanor and attitude honestly gave me a bit more of golden retriever than reformed playboy while Melanie is definitely a little blackcat-esque.
When the two finally find their way back together through mutual friends there’s a substantial amount of forced proximity with a ton of lovable tropes nestled within the storyline that keep the tension and the plot line moving. The pacing was particularly fast for me while spicy scenes were seemingly used as filler at times instead of a natural integration. This was part of my reasoning behind the four star rating.
The main storyline left a lot to be desired. The pacing, not only in the spicy scenes, was fast but overall the story was a little fast paced which felt as though there was a lot... missing. It would’ve benefitted more from playing the long game especially if a lot more of the showing and not just telling aspects of writing had been included. I just wanted so much more out of this because foundational-ly it has a very very good set up, and could be such a powerfully good and entertaining story. Certain events in the book needed to be a bit more flushed out. That is just my own opinion, please know I don’t mean any harm against the author and their choices because overall I did absolutely enjoy the read.
I believe that based off of some of the foreshadowing within this story and the expectations for the next installment. The next book could certainly be five stars for me and I will definitely be keeping up with this series. I’m seriously looking forward to it. These were just a few of my notes but please don’t let it hold you back from taking a chance on The Pieces of Us, and enjoy your read!!!
This story was utter perfection. I knew I was going to love this series from book 1, and when I heard this book was coming out I knew that I had to read it.
Linc & Melonie’s story is so beautiful. The balance of sweet, vulnerable, and spicy/intimate moments shared along with the storyline, fun background characters with witty banter and sass was so well done and I loved every single part of this story. The way the characters interacted made me feel like I was part of their group and I loved being immersed in their found family dynamic.
Daddy Linc definitely showed up, stayed and respected our girl and showed her that he was there for her and I just loved how he treated / worshiped her. He was so sweet with her, but he could also be sassy and possessive and I loved every single part of him. And Melonie, she was vulnerable, emotional and raw throughout her whole journey and I just loved seeing her character shine and develop and for her to let her walls down for him and finally open her heart up. They both fought hard to get to where they are, and while their journeys aren’t linear, I really loved that it takes her more time and that he respects her for it. It shows that love takes two people but it’s about balance and being partners that share in the love and growth together.
Thank you so much to Ashley & Luna Management for the opportunity to ARC Read this story!! I cannot wait for the next story and to see more from our characters.
What a fantastic follow-up to and seamless extension of to the author’s debut! Beginning even at the dedication, this book spoke to me just as the first book of the Ladies of Back Bay (and the guys!) did. The exquisitely layered romance featuring frenemies to lovers with a reverse age gap and reformed playboy, an accidental pregnancy and then roommates was everything I ever wanted and more for Linc and Melonie’s story. I laughed, I cried, I connected and I emphasized. There was chemistry, there was spice, there was the journey to trust and healthy relationships and thankfully a happily ever after I yearn for with romances (albeit an unconventional one). The author writes her characters like those I wish I was/could be or those I wanted/search for in my life…
Many thanks to Ashley Warren and Luna Literary Management for not only this eARC but for opening up the wonderful world of indie authors and books to me
I love a good accidental pregnancy story, I like to see how the author handles the story. How do the characters behave, close to real life or atrocious fiction? Linc and Mel have a heartwarming story. It is not a smooth journey but could be close to real life.
Linc surprised me, Mel frustrated me, and yet I could not put the book down. After a bit of sleuthing to find out this is the sophomore effort from this author, I am looking forward to more, and will go back to book one, before the next one arrives.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review
Tropes: 🌺one night stand 🌺enemies to lovers 🌺accidental pregnancy 🌺forced proximity
I really enjoyed this story! It was a super quick, fast paced read but still had a great moving plot and overall story line. I don't have strong feelings about accidental pregnancy compared to some people, but do not let this accidental pregnancy deter you from reading this book!! I think Ashley did a great job of naturally weaving it into the story to make Mel and Linc's story genuine and not feel forced. And as you can see from the tropes, the two of them did hate each other for a period of time!!
But I absolutely LOVED how much of a simp that Linc turned into when he found out that Mel was pregnant and seeing the two of them grow and develop their relationship as expecting parents, to friends, to lovers, was just so wholesome to see. I utterly binged this!
Thank you to Ashley and Luna Literary Management for the eARC of Pieces of Us
Accidental pregnancy is one of my favorite tropes and Linc is the reason why. PLEASE give me all the kind men who step up. Green flags left and right with him and I love him for it. I’m so happy that Melonie found someone to treat her like the queen she is. The ending was the sweetest.

Thank you to Ashley and Luna Literary for sharing this eARC with me. 🫶🏼
Absolutely loved this book! Short chapters, a catchy plot, and great character development. I read the book in an afternoon!
The story is about a playboy in his late twenties who doesn’t think he will ever like the idea of settling down and a good girl CPA in her mid thirties who is hoping that a good man is out there somewhere. They meet at a club, have a passionate night, and then he slips away after promising her a morning after.
Everything about that night sets the universe’s wheels in motion, especially when they reconnect at her best friend’s engagement.
I think I have a new book boyfriend! Linc was the epitome of green flags. Swoon!! Being able to witness the connection between Melonie and Linc grow from frenemies to lovers was beautiful. I felt a whole range of emotions while reading this book. Linc and Melonie have my heart!
Shoutout to the side characters that amplified the story. These are the kind of friends you want to have as an adult.
If you enjoy romance with the pregnancy trope, I highly recommend this book!
I would like to thank Ashley Warren and Luna Literary Management for the opportunity to read and review Pieces of Us.
Thank you to the author, and Luna literary for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book! And the author didn't disappoint. She knows how to write an accidental pregnancy/babe trope very well! Linc is such book boyfriend material. It was great to see what happened between him and Mel from the first book. How they navigated the pregnancy and baby, how they were friends first and foremost. I think linc was steady throughout and Mel showed the most progress by learning to let linc in and love him and rely on him. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
we love a man who isn't afraid to show his emotions. This whole book was so cute. I was not a fan of Mel's mom though. Thank you to luna literary for the arc.
This was a long time coming, I am so thankful to have been given this ARC opportunity and I am so upset it took me so long but sometimes life happens! Once I began, I was utterly CONSUMED by this book. I had certain expectations, and my goodness did Daddy Linc exceed them beyond belief. Ashley, another five star read!! I can't wait to see what the crew get up to in the next book and where Gigi and Marcus take us.
Tropes: Age Gap (8 years, OW/YM) Reformed Playboy "Good Girl" Accidental Pregnancy Roommates He Falls First She Falls Harder Frenemies to Lovers Bossy in Bed MMC Unconventional HEA
I love a surprise pregnancy trope and was super excited for this book! The concept of the whole book was amazing! A ONS turned enemies to friends to lovers. Love it!
Melonie is a strong independent women that won't settle for anything less than what she wants. When the man she met at the club leaves in the middle of the night after promising pancakes in the morning, she's devastated. Later she finds out the man that left her, is her best friend's fiances best friend, Linc becomes the enemy.
Linc was also devastated for leaving Melonie that night, but loyalty to his friend was more important at the time. Since seeing Melonie again, he's done everything to get on her good side. When they finally give into lust again one night their lives change forever. Now they are forever tied together with her daughter.
While I loved the concept of this story, I didn't like the FMC. She was just flat out mean and dismissive towards Linc. Even when agreeing that in the same situation she would have left like Linc had, she still held a grudge. And her repetitive argument of Linc never being in a relationship before got old quick. Even with Linc & their whole friend group stating that Linc had true feelings for her and could see Linc being in a relationship with her, she ignored them all.
In the end I was happy that they got together! The author had me crying near the end, but it was worth it! That epilogue was so adorable! Both Melonie & Linc deserve to be happy!
I reallyyy liked this book; when I finished it, I was literally shaking. I actually even put it as an update; I was shaking because it was just so good. It was so sweet, and even though it's a small book or shorter than what people are accustomed to, there was so much character development; I felt like I went through a long journey with the characters.
I really did feel like I personally knew Linc, Maloney, Gigi, Jax, Audrey, and Marcus for way longer than I did, and I actually didn't read the first book in the series, which was Jax and Audrey’s story. I was immediately drawn to this book, however, because of the accidental pregnancy, and hello? Who doesn't love the classic 'he falls first' trope? It has such a powerful hold on me. I’m not kidding, if you want me to read your book, if you want me to pick up anything, just put that he falls first, and I am going to trip myself over it, alright?
The only issue that I had, though, was a really small detail, very personal preference... I was going to say it, but I realised it may be considered a small spoiler, I think, so I'm not going to say it, but I just had a bit of an issue with how Melonie and Linc ended. (It’s HEA, though; don’t worry!).
Although we see both points of view from Maloney and Linc, Linc took the whole spotlight for me. I loved his chapters, loved seeing his thoughts. I enjoyed seeing him grow so much, even though he himself knew he was that person; he knew who he was and what he wanted.
I really like that the author showed how the characters respected each other's boundaries, and the conversations of them were really natural; the dialogue didn't feel forced. I cannot wait to see Marcus and Gigi’s story, I am so excited! I literally just got even more excited while writing this.
This was a cute surprise pregnancy 2nd chance romance between Linc and Melonie. It was romantic, emotional and wholesome. I really liked the close knit friend group and Linc. He was such a unique and memorable character. Which is a surprise! Normally I always side with the heroine and like her more but the author gives us dual POVs so we get all of Linc's inside dialogue and sincerity. He won me over in no time.
He was a confirmed bachelor, unabashedly physically affectionate, a great friend and loyal. But one decision to protect a friend destroys his chance to pursue Mel when they first meet. That decision leads to Mel forming an unfavorable impression of Linc. When their friend group brings them back together, it becomes an uphill battle for Linc to prove to Mel that his interest is more than just a passing fling or one night stand.
I loved his laser focused commitment to proving himself to Mel, I wish everyone could have a surprise baby daddy like Linc! Seriously, he was so supportive, caring and plain adorable towards Mel.
That being said, I felt like Mel was too hard of a nut to crack. She had her reasons for keeping Linc at arms length and it wasn't all about their infamous one night stand, she had some family stuff that bled through to color her idea of independence and effected her life choices and that unfortunately leads to her stone walling Linc at every turn. And this got old pretty quick. On top of that, as the reader, we know where the MCs heart really lies but have to suffer through them second guessing and pretending out of fear and insecurities. It felt too drawn out when all I wanted was them to give each other a chance and get together already!
Long story short, it was better than 3 ⭐s but not quite a 4 ⭐s so final rating is 3.5 ⭐s.
The beginning is spicy, the middle is low simmer with a quasi platonic co-parenting vibe going for it and the end is rounded off with a cute ILY and a pretty satisfying epilogue several years later.
𝐎𝐤𝐚𝐲 𝐠𝐮𝐲𝐬...Ashley Warren has become one of my favorite authors. I was so lucky and grateful to arc read for book #1 in this series 𝓗𝓲𝓼 𝓜𝓲𝓼𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓟𝓲𝓮𝓬𝓮 (which I was absolutely in love with ) and oh my god she did again with 𝓟𝓲𝓮𝓬𝓮𝓼 𝓸𝓯 𝓤𝓼! I'm obsessed!
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐬 one of those stories that really sticks with you when your done reading because it hits on such relatable emotions: fear, vulnerability, and the hope that people can change. I know not everyone loves the accidental pregnancy trope but I LOVE it! I love kids in love stories and every time I read one it pulls on my heartstrings extra hard and I don't know if it's because I'm a mom myself but Ashley did such an amazing job capturing those tender moments between Linc and Melonie.
𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝓗𝓲𝓼 𝓜𝓲𝓼𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓟𝓲𝓮𝓬𝓮 then you know Linc's personality (which I love). He was known as the playboy BUT his night with Melonie changed something. He wanted more. I was rooting for him and not just because he's determined to prove himself to Mel, but because he's genuinely trying to become a better person. His persistence isn't arrogant or pushy, it's just Linc and he truly loves with his whole heart.
𝐌𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 character. I could really feel what she was feeling on this surprise journey of hers. She's guarded (for a reason) but who would't be? But what really got me was her journey on becoming a mother. (I told you those heartstrings get pulled) What she went through was just real and raw and emotions were all over the place and wondering if Linc was going to be around or not...? Not gonna lie there was parts that had me tearing up.
𝓟𝓲𝓮𝓬𝓮𝓼 𝓸𝓯 𝓤𝓼 is truly just a beautiful story and the spice??? umm...hello sir! (whew) The connection between them is just out of this world and I had the best time reading their story. I would definitely recommend this book especially if you love second chances and forgiveness. I can't wait for the next book Ashley writes!
I feel like most reviews just recap a story and I can read the blurb from the author to know what a book is about. I always want a review to tell me why I should care or read a book so that is what I hope to provide here.
The prologue came in HOT. If you read the prologue and don’t want to read the book, there is something wrong with you. The banter, top notch. Melonie’s toast, the best ever. The spice, phew. (Ashley Warren, you have outdone yourself.)
I love the way the Ladies of Back Bay series is truly connected. With some series, the stories connect but only superficially. This series has the characters so woven together that if you attempted to read them as a standalone, you would be missing out on so much. The friendship group dynamic shifts and changes between the books and you feel like you are growing with them.
The stomach swooping that occurred during this book was ridiculous. Linc is just so swoony and so thoughtful. It isn’t in big obvious ways but in his steadfast devotion. He isn’t one big grand gesture, he is a million little moments. If you aren’t all in on him at first (like Melonie), he will chip away at you until you see how perfect he really is. The way he calls Melonie “Mama” ugh, just done. He is the best.
There is no third act breakup but that does not mean the book is without conflict and turmoil. The dynamic between Melonie and her mom is so incredibly relatable and you feel that pain and frustration. If you have a tough parent/child dynamic, this hits so close to home. Then you have the oh shit situation from Chapters 62-64 that absolutely gut me. As a mom, it hit so hard that I had tears pricking my eyes. I felt the heartbreak and fear and overwhelm. (I don’t want to spoil anything but you feel helpless and that friend group is right there to hold it together and you fall in love with the characters all that much more.)
I laughed. I cried. I cringed. I swooned. This book makes you feel all the things. I could not put it down. Ashley Warren has mastered writing the perfect length chapters so you find yourself saying “ok just one more chapter” until, next thing you know, the book is over. Just read it.
🫧Accidental pregnancy 🥞 Golden retriever MMC 🫧 Reverse age gap 🥞 He falls first 🫧 Dual POV 🥞 Banter 🫧 Forced proximity 🥞 Reformed playboy 🫧 Open door spice
Linc was a playboy who “didn’t do relationships” and had no plans of settling down any time soon. That was until he saw her Melonie, A fiesty independent cpa several years his senior, with flowing brown hair, and curves for days. After one hot and heavy night together Linc was fully smitten. Unfortunately he didn’t leave that impression when he left in the middle of the night. Months later his feelings still linger as he and Melonie are forced to spend ample amounts of their free time together planning their best friend’s wedding. Melonie doesn’t have much faith in Linc after he took off on her that night, but there’s no denying the sexual tension between them. After an evening consisting of a little too much tequila, watching their best friends get married, and a sultry purple dress it didn’t take long for the two to find their way back to the bedroom. This time though Melonie and Linc have a lot more they need to figure out. Linc will try endlessly to prove to Melonie that he has changed and can be exactly the man she needs, but Melonie isn’t so quick to let her walls down.
I throughly enjoyed Linc and Melonie’s story. It was a fun, quick, and fiery read. It is filled with playful banter and likable characters. Linc is the ultimate golden retriever and possibly the perfect man. I spent a good amount of the book internally yelling “commmmme on Melonie” but she had to learn for herself just what a catch Linc was. Their story is full of laughs, tender moments, and spice. This book is steamy, but there’s a great balance between spice and story.
Before reading I recommend checking out the content warnings
Thank you Ashley Warren and Luna Literacy Management for an arc of Pieces of US
I really liked Linc from the start. It was nice to see a guy who was honest and in touch with his emotions instead of coming across emotionally stunted or grumpy. Mel I struggled with for about half the book. I found her a bit hypocritical. She holds Linc leaving after their one night stand against him and is really snarky about it for ages. He promised pancakes the next day not eternal commitment. I get being disappointed that he left but to hold it against him so strongly was ridiculous. He apologised and told her the reasons why. Forgive and move on especially because she then decides to start using him for sex. Isn't that exactly what she accused him of? I also didn't agree with holding Linc's sexual history over him like he's been parading women around in front of her or something. He was a single bachelor in his 20's. Of course he had casual sex. I don't think that was enough reason to treat him for a long time like he was unworthy of her heart or trust. It was clear Mel was the one who had issues with commitment and she was putting it on Linc. He made his feelings clear and he stepped up. I was really not interested in reading Mel keeping her walls up around him for the entire book and messing him around. Thankfully the author didn't take that route nor did she do the typical and have Linc's devotion bought into question by having another woman sniffing around. When Mel got pregnant and Linc was by her side through everything, bonding over the baby. Moving into together to be parents/roommates... Mel slowly let her walls down with him and they came together to finally be a couple. Yay that made me so happy to see them happy. They made the cutest couple and family. Daddy Linc was the best.
It takes a special kind of talent to make a truly seamless transition from one book into the next without a ton of exposition and repetitive narration. And well, Ashley Warren has done just that with Pieces of Us, the second book in her Ladies of Back Bay Series.
Why you’ll love it… 🤍 Frenemies to lovers 🤍 Reverse age gap 🤍 Reformed playboy 🤍 Forced proximity 🤍 He falls first 🤍 Accidental pregnancy 🤍 HEA
Why I loved it (4.5⭐️)… As I did with Ashley’s debut novel, His Missing Piece, I fell hard and fast for this book. She writes a reverse age gap like no one else. And maybe because I’m a little older, I relate to her stories so much — I can picture myself in FMC Melonie’s shoes.
This is such a sweet, nuanced, heart-squeezing romance — and let me just say if you’ve read His Missing Piece and thought Jax was a golden retriever — just know our MMC Linc said “hold my beer” in that regard. He’s just 😍😍😍.
Honestly, I still can’t quite believe this is Ashley’s second book ever. She writes like someone who’s been doing this for years. As a writer myself, I am endlessly impressed with (and weirdly proud of?) her work — this book cemented that feeling for me.
I had all the emotions while reading this one — I laughed, I cried, I felt frustrated at times and at others, I couldn’t wipe the dopey smile off my face. We got it all with Melonie and Linc’s journey — spice yes, but also tenderness and longing and trust-building and vulnerability. Their chemistry was unmatched and the deep care they had was so moving, especially as they navigated the emotional path to a new baby.
The whole story is a beautiful journey to their HEA and you will adore this book. I have no doubt.
Endless thanks to Ashley and Lune Literary Mgmt for letting me read this beauty early! 🫶🏼
This book had me smitten at the prologue. This is Book 2 of the Ladies of Back Bay series. While I did not read the first one prior to reading this I will be going back to read this immediately. Ashley has moved to the top of the list as one of my new favorite authors and now I cannot wait for book 3.
The story of Mel and Linc had me feeling all my emotions. Linc is so thoughtful and cares for Melonie so deeply. He respects and takes care of her in a way I believe all women wish for. With the forced proximity of their best friends getting married, Linc and Melonie are forced to be around each other more than Melonie bargained for after their initial one-night stand. After some swooning from Linc Melonie considers a possible friend with benefits type thing with Linc until that doesn't really become an option once she falls pregnant after their (second) one-night stand.
Linc is head over heels in love with Melonie and is willing to swoon, care for, and support Melonie and their baby any way possible. There were times I wasn't sure that I cared for Melonie, as Linc was just so perfect. However, she grew on me and this book quickly became one of my top reads of the year.
Thank you Ashley Warren and Luna Literary for giving me the opportunity to read this as an ARC. I look forward to going back and reading book 1 and will be on the look out for book 3. This will be a beautiful addition to my bookshelf.
