Writing historical fiction as Suzanne Fortin and mystery/suspense as Sue Fortin.

Suzanne writes historical fiction, predominantly dual timeline and set in France. Her books feature courageous women in extraordinary circumstances with love and family at the heart of all the stories.

Suzanne was a bookworm as a child and this naturally progressed to wanting to write her own stories. It wasn’t until she was on maternity leave with her fourth child, that she thought it was now or never and finally managed to write a complete novel. Having joined the Romantic Novelists’ Association under their New Writers’ Scheme, writing then as Sue Fortin, she sent her manuscript off for a critique.

After another year of working on the novel, Suzanne self-published United States of Love – a contemporary romance. This was then picked up by a traditional publisher, HarperCollins and under their imprint HarperImpulse (now One More Chapter) this book was republished. Writing as Sue Fortin, another seven books in the romantic suspense genre were published with HarperCollins.

More recently, Sue has moved to writing historical fiction and publishes under the name of Suzanne Fortin, with her debut in this genre, The Forgotten Life of Arthur Pettinger released in early 2021 with Head of Zeus imprint, Aria Fiction.

A self-confessed Francophile, Suzanne has a home in the Morbihan region of France and visits as often as she can with her husband and family. The region has been a huge inspiration for Suzanne’s books and is often the backdrop to her writing.

Moving to a new address doesn’t necessarily mean your past will stay behind!

Hannah has left her past in the distance. Ready to move forward with her new life, moving into their new luxury home in an exclusive community. Now she’ll be safe here, right?

But of course, the past keeps rearing its ugly head, leaving poor Hannah with nowhere to hide as all her secrets come spewing out around her.

This was a good, light domestic thriller. I guessed most of the twists but still enjoyed the ride!

🎧 I listened to the audio which only provided a single narrator Imogen Church. She’s one of my favorite narrators, and the primary reason I picked up this book. Overall, she did a great job (as always) though some voices came off better than others.

Jasper and Hannah, along with their small daughter Pia, moved to Silverbanks, a gated community with beautiful homes and a good safety record. Hannah was desperate for safety and thought she could find it in Silverbanks. Until, not long after their move, Hannah saw a face she recognised; a face from her dreadful, traumatic past. But he had been a good person, surely that wouldn't have changed?

Jasper had once saved Hannah's life; she loved him dearly and he, her. And Pia was surrounded by love. So Hannah knew that once again those memories needed to be shut away. Gradually though, small, unexplainable things started happening. And someone was murdered. Hannah was questioned but she wouldn't be arrested, surely? As the small incidents slowly turned into big ones, Hannah felt threatened, and Jasper couldn't understand what was happening. Would Hannah's life spiral out of control once again? Would she lose everything for the second time?

Your Little Lies is a psychological thriller with a bevy of twists and turns by Sue Fortin which I thoroughly enjoyed. Hannah was an incredibly strong woman, determined to keep her family safe. But the secrets and lies rippled through the pages and threatened to undo everything. Plenty of bad guys - but also, plenty of good! Highly recommended.

Secrets, twists, lies, deception and recognition rule the day in Your Little Lies! Sue Fortin crafted a tale that takes place in the present and ten years earlier. A lot can happen in ten years, right!?! Well, a lot has happened....

Hannah, Jasper and their daughter, Pia, have recently moved into a new home in a new community. It’s a fresh beginning for them in a home with a wonderful view. Hannah has made a friend, but she has also met a neighbor who she recognizes and who recognizes her! As her anxiety piques, she can't help but think about safety issues, the past, and just how dangerous things could become.

While I enjoyed this book, I didn't love it. I found it to be a bit slow at times and this felt like a much longer book than 338 pages. I did enjoy the mystery but wanted more oomph. I enjoyed that I did not figure this book out, the author kept me guessing the entire book. There is a nice amount of tension, twists, and secrets flowing throughout the book, which I always enjoy.

Others are enjoying this book more than I did, so please read their reviews as well.

While I love the author’s historical fiction books the best, I’ll still always reach for her psychological thrillers!

In examining the deception of appearances and fresh starts, Fortin whisks us away to the south coast of England and introduces us to a community that will both intrigue and shock us. Silverbanks is no Twickenham, that’s for sure!

Be forewarned, once you visit 9 First Avenue and the Silverbanks community, you’ll find it difficult to leave. Like unwanted and uncontrollable ivy, they have a way of wrapping their lives around you and squeezing out all your hidden secrets.

Readers become aware that Jasper Gunderson, Hannah Towers and their 7-year-old daughter Pia have come to the south looking for a fresh start. It soon becomes apparent that something that happened 11 years ago has Hannah on edge. Sit back and allow Fortin to slowly unravel Operation Camelot and show you that even the best of secrets can’t stay hidden for long!

I was immediately hooked, read looking for clues and snickered at the Resident’s Association and its far reach!

Fortin is an auto-read author for me!

I was gifted this copy by Storm Publishing and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

OMG... This was so good!
A domestic thriller that had me gripped from the start. Full of tension, suspense, and intrigue. Sue Fortin certainly got my emotions flowing with this one. It had some gut-wrenching moments, and I had to fight back the tears a few times. Fast-paced and compelling, I flew through this book. There were moments when I gasped out loud ( the hubby had to check if i was ok) and twists I did not see coming. With a great plot and well written characters, I don't often give 5 stars, but this book deserves them.

An anxiety induced read that had me holding my breath throughout. I recommend this to anyone who loves reading domestic thrillers.

This was a good story, though I do think it dragged a bit. It centers on Hannah, who moves to a new house with her partner Jasper and young daughter Pia. She makes immediate friends with a neighbor named Annabelle and also runs into another neighbor with ties to her secret past. The book is told entirely from Hannah’s POV but alternates between current time and 10 years ago.

I thought the mystery of this story was sound but there were so many coincidences that I felt it wasn’t super realistic, even if it was interesting. The pacing of the book was a little slow, with repetitive internal narratives and some discussion of mundane tasks. I think it would have been more engaging with some of that cut out so the action really pops. The ending was satisfying, albeit a bit predictable, and I thought it worked for the story.

Overall, great concept but the overuse of internal narrative and need to suspend my disbelief makes it a “like” versus a “love” for me. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A gripping read! Hannah, Jasper and their young daughter, Pia, move into their dream home. When Hannah realises that she knows their neighbour, a retired policeman, she is terrified. It is apparent that Hannah has a secret, but it definitely wasn’t what I thought it would be.

The book switches back and forth between the present day and ten years previously and we gradually learn what led Hannah to be in the position she is today.

I liked Hannah and felt that all the characters were well developed, realistic and if not all likeable, then definitely relevant and believable. There were a few good twists, the last one though, was a jaw-dropper!

The audiobook narration by Imogen Church was fabulous - she is hands down my favourite narrator!

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Sue Fortin and Dreamscape for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Your little lies by Sue Fortin, narrated by Imogen Church. There is way too much in this long book to give a brief summary so I will say Hannah and Jarvis move into a gated community with their daughter Pia when Mrs Rooke the head of the HMO comes over to introduce her self on the first day she tells Jasper all about their neighborhood but it’s when she mentions the neighbor next-door that Hannah is filled with many emotions fear nervousness and dread it seems he is someone from her past and it’s a past that of course she never shared with her new husband Japerr. In the other POV we meet Laurel Matt and their son Declan when The reason for these two POV‘s being connected comes out in the consequences of trying to hide it it may just change everything Hannah loves about her life. I want to say I thought this book was way too long but having said that I still thought it was really good it was well written and despite the ending not be the not down reveal thrillers usually are I was still happy with it, I just think it could’ve been cut down a little more so as not to be over 10 hours long. I don’t like long books on my birthday but by the time I figured out how long this book was I was already invested. It’s long books don’t bother you or if you really enjoy thrillers I would still recommend it as I said it really was a good book. I have read other books by this author and really like them as far as the narrator goes I mean it’s Imogen Church of course she did awesome.#NetGalley, #DreamscapeSelect, #SueFortin, #ImogenChurch, #YourLittleLies,

This is no where near a romance book, yet the author had me in tears multiple times. I’m not that sentimental…. I usually download several books at a time on my kindle so I forget what the book is about when I begin to read it. I like it that way. I had no clue what was going on, but I was interested. The mystery unfolds lazily but perfectly. There’s several twists in this book even when you do figure out what’s happening. You start to glide into a home run pleasantly fooled into thinking you are near the end. Then, BAM! another twist is revealed. That is, right before a crying bout. lol! Seriously I loved this book!

Hannah, Jasper and their daughter Pia move to the coast in a gated community for a fresh start. When Hannah bumps into the next door neighbour and instantly recognises him, we soon become aware that she is harbouring a secret from her past.

Told on two timelines, now and eleven years ago, we learn plenty has happened in this time. The pages kept turning for me as I was desperate for the reveal, there are mini twists and secrets exposed, however at times I found it quite slow. All in all though was a good read start to finish with an ending I didn’t predict. This is an emotionally charged thriller with all the trimmings.

I read this one at break-neck speed as it caught my attention immediately and wouldn't let me go until the end! Happy couple Hannah and Jasper have just bought a new house in a great development and move in with seven-year-old daughter, Pia and dog, Luna. Hannah is elated until she meets new neighbors, Bryan and Annabelle whom she recognizes from her "former" life--that of course no one else in her family knows about! And we're off! Then the novel vacillates between her old and new life as we see the terror, the stalking, the murders, and just how she survived. It's an excellent cat-and-mouse game that will leave you with your mouth hanging open!

I wanted to love this book but I didn’t. I am going to give it another try reading it rather than the audiobook version. The narrator did a good job but I didn’t love listening to them. At times it was a bit slow, and I also found the timeline shifts to be confusing in audiobook format. I had a hard time keeping up with the characters and names.
There’s a good premise here but I will need another attempt to see if I actually liked the story.

Had Your Little Lies not been an advanced reader copy that I committed to reviewing, I probably wouldn’t have finished it. That said, I’m glad I pressed on and finished it, for by the end it gave me a lot to think about and was a decent mystery.

Hannah and Jasper are partners who move with their 7-year-old daughter to an exclusive community in the south of England on the English Channel. Jasper loves her, despite the fact that he knows she has secrets. He accepts her anxiety and behavior without question, believing that when the time is right she will tell him. Moving out of London to the community of Silverbanks was supposed to be part of reassuring Hannah.

That’s not how it turns out. When Hannah recognizes a neighbor, she’s worried that her past is catching up to her, despite the reassurances Bryan gives her. Another neighbor, Annabelle, seems to draw Hannah out of her shell a bit until a few incidents put Hannah on edge. Is she imagining it or is someone targeting Hannah and her family? When Bryan turns up dead, it would seem Hannah’s worst fears are confirmed.

Your Little Lies is a psychological thriller, which only works if the protagonist seems to be in peril. That is certainly the case here. Hannah flashes back to her old life as Laurel Jordan to explain how she got to this place. She was put into witness protection when she testified in a murder trial of Daniel Sully, who was a loan shark with ties to organized crime. The problem I had was that most of the peril that Laurel/Hannah found herself in practically had neon signs in front warning her off. It’s obvious from the start that Annabelle is someone to be cautious of. I wanted to scream at Hannah as she continually dismissed the warning signs, yet we’re told that for the past 11 years, she has been so cautious. The same is true in her old life as Laurel. There are so many warning signs from Daniel, yet she feels drawn to him despite being a married woman. Laurel’s husband, Matt, turns out to be a jerk, but at the beginning of her story, they are a happily married couple with a son.

3.5 ⭐

Hannah, Jasper and their darling daughter Pia move in to their new home in an exclusive area in Silverbanks.
High glass windows and direct access to the beach, they couldn't believe their luck.
Everything seemed too good to be true until, during a neighborhood gathering, Hannah locks eyes with a familiar face. Did he recognise her? How could he not?
Suddenly Hannah worries that her past, the thing she tried so hard to put behind her, might just be around the corner.
What will she do about it?

Review:
Gripping ? Check!
Fast paced? Check!
Complex? Check!
Stressful? Check! (In a good way! But I could swear I stopped breathing while reading certain scenes 😬)

I enjoyed this book, it was such a quick read and I was not bored for one second, I just kept being curious, wanting to find out what on earth was going to happen next.
Sue Fortin knows how to keep her readers entertained and I am curious to read more of her work.

My criticism of this book is that I wish the ending hadn't been so rushed. I feel like a lot of things were happening throughout the book and not everything had the closure it deserved.
I also would have appreciated if things could have been a bit more believable, I understand that some "coincidences" are needed for the sake of the stories, but I think there was one coincidence too many.

Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it and I was lucky enough to read it as a buddy read, which makes everything even more entertaining!

This book started off fast paced from the get go and had me hooked right from the first chapter. Every time I finished a chapter I found myself thinking ‘just one more and then I’ll put it down’, which I think is the sign of a very good book.

The plot followed the life of Hannah and Jasper who move to a new area to start a new life, however when Hannah meets someone who has ties to her old secret life, she realises that maybe the past can’t stay in the past. There were so many twists and turns which constantly left me eager to find out what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the writing style that the author used, the book was written from Hannah’s POV, combined with switching between past and present. This writing style created mystery and added a lot of depth to the book and I think that the author using this approach really helped me to connect with the characters better and become more invested in their lives.

At no point did I feel underwhelmed reading this book, I felt it was an excellent read from start to finish and right until the end it managed to shock me. It was full of suspense and I would highly recommend, well deserving of 5* in my opinion! Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my ARC of this book.

Your Little Lies by Sue Fortin is a gripping psychological thriller that takes you on a tense journey with the main character, Hannah. Hannah is a woman trying to keep her life together after past trauma, and as events unfold, she becomes suspicious of her new neighbor, believing he might be hiding something sinister. The story is told from Hannah’s perspective, allowing readers to experience her inner turmoil and growing paranoia firsthand. Fortin did a great job providing enough background on the characters to help us understand their thoughts and motivations, which made the twists feel more impactful.

Although some of the story’s events felt a bit far-fetched, the characters and their development kept me fully engaged. The ending wraps everything up nicely, which I appreciated, with no lingering loose ends.

The audiobook is narrated by the brilliant Imogene Church, and as always, her performance is supreme. She brings Hannah’s character to life, adding a layer of intensity to the already suspenseful plot.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sue Fortin, and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to review the audiobook. This is a solid, enjoyable read for fans of psychological thrillers, especially if you like books filled with twists and turns that keep you guessing.

This is an absolutely unputdownable read from the first page. The book begins with Hannah and Jasper moving to an idyllic, if not too perfect, estate in the south of England and the reader is thrown straight into the mystery from the get go. We find out Hannah has a huge secret and moving to this area now poses a huge threat to that.

The characters felt relatable and the author made it so easy to empathise with Hannah’s actions. Given that this is a psychological thriller/mystery, there was the very occasional action which left me frustrated with Hannah, but the story would not progress if the characters were perfect.

I loved how the author revealed bits of the mystery gradually without feeling predictable or ruining the end. This meant I was hooked throughout, desperate for the next crumb of a revelation.

I finished this book in only a few long sittings and between these I found myself desperate to pick up my kindle and find out more. I would definitely recommend this book and am excited to find more by this author.

Hannah, Jasper and their little girl Pia have moved into their dream home in Silverbanks, a luxury gated neighbourhood (reminiscent of Sandbanks which I have visited before so could easily picture this). Jasper is aware Hannah holds a secret, something from a life before he met her, he hopes she can open up to him but he never pushes her for it. Hannah meets her next door neighbour, the recognition means only one thing, her past has caught up with her.
When unexplainable things started to happen, Hannah didn’t seem too concerned, they were small unconnected things but when the life changing events started Hannah knows she has to be smarter to stop her whole world from spiralling.
Sue did such a great job of keeping the twists and turns coming, some of which I had guessed correctly, this did not detract from the story at all, I actually that I could piece it together correctly!

Quote: “Instead of being the hunted, I had to become the hunter.”

Review: This book straight off had me so intrigued there is question that make you mind start to turn. I needed answers. Fun not so fun fact I am terrified of HOAs they scare the heck out of me. Why would I want to be controlled with what I do with MY house. Ugh so freaking weird. This story takes you along as Hannah settles into her life in are new house. Straight away things are off and questions arise of the neighborhood seems to take off a new life of mystery. This book was addicting as you start to uncover what is going on you have even more questions. I was so amazed with how captivating this book was I couldn’t get enough of it. As the story unfolds you uncover shocking truths that had stayed hidden for years. The ending was so satisfying and the best ending I would have wished for. I will definitely adding Sue Fortin to my go to author list.

Hannah and her partner and daughter have moved into a beautiful gated community where Hannah can finely feel safe. Safe from her past, a past her partner knows nothing about. But soon she is recognized by a neighbor, a retired police officer and strange things begin to happen. When the neighbor is found dead Hannah is suspected and then her whole world begins to unravel in a most frightening way. The secrets Hannah has fashioned her life on are now out. This is a really fun surprising thriller that I could not stop listening to. If you like thick twisty plots that keep you guessing this domestic thriller is for you. The audio version was excellent with great narration. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

This book was a major step up from the last one I read by this author. This domestic thriller was absolutely fantastic—full of emotions, tension, and unexpected twists. It grabbed me right from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The characters felt so real and had great depth, each one stirring different emotions as the story unfolded. The tension in certain scenes was super intense, and the pacing was spot-on. Sue Fortin has definitely become one of my go-to authors. If you're after a fast-paced domestic thriller, this is one you won't want to miss!

I really enjoyed this book! I enjoyed the dual timelines from Hannah and the past. I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Jasper and Hannah, and also their daughter Pia. One thing that was really unique about this book was that no matter what timeline I was in I was always looking forward to what was going to happen. I didn't enjoy one storyline more than the other but equally enjoyed them both which is so rare!

Both the present day and the past kept me entertained and guessing what was going to happen. For the plot twists, I found one of them a little obvious, BUT the way that it spiraled from there I did not see coming! This book left me guessing, and intrigued by Hannah's story, both past and present.

I think the only thing that I didn't understand is how everyone ended up in the same area. Especially Bryan and Hannah, I feel like there had to be some way that Bryan knew she would be there. But I don't think that pulled from my enjoyment of the book.

"Your Little Lies" by Sue Fortin is a psychological thriller.

Hannah and Jasper have just moved into a luxury gated community by the ocean. Within a day, Hannah recognizes someone from her past, and then someone vandalizes their property. Hannah is terrified!

There are so many secrets being kept that it isn't too surprising that this house of cards starts to collapse. In the end, it still doesn't make sense to me that they moved to this community.. and that's all I can say.

Your Little Lies is an exciting domestic thriller. Hannah and Jasper move with their young daughter and dog to an oceanfront gated community called Silverbanks. Hannah is delighted to begin a fast friendship with neighbor Annabelle, although the reader may notice red flags. Then Hannah meets her next door neighbor Bryan, who she recognizes from her past. What follows is nonstop action and danger. There are a lot of coincidences in this book, and Hannah’s inner dialogue is somewhat repetitive. That said, this is a fast paced and exciting story with good character development, and highly recommended! With thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC. My opinions are my own.
