The Witches of Blood and Ash By Kim Richardson Great second book. Added mysteries, more suspense, demon and dark magic, dealing with fae mob, and her Dr deadly family. Kept me entertained and enjoying the ride!
Not as good as book 1, the constant fighting between her and Blake was annoying. Kat jumped into the too stupid to live with both feet..for someone who is so confident in her badass powers, she got her ass handed to her a lot. Don’t understand the dynamic between Kat and Blake…obviously Blake knows Tilly is in love with him or wants a piece of him, but he implies in front of Tilly that he is into Kat. The protectiveness he is showing over Kat we do not see him doing that with the others..Then there is the family dynamics in book 1 it implied that Brad and Blake were besties, but yet he did not know about Kat, she lived there until she was 17, and this town is fairly small, but yet her parents live in the same town, and never cross paths, but there is also a wrong side of the tracks…Blake is pure asshole, don’t see what Tilly sees he maybe hot on the outside but asshole on inside…Kat was too I am independent woman, you can’t tell me want to do…got really tiring…then finally the 3 pages of back and forth between Kat and Dash..I was like shut the fuck up Kat and just go the fuck away…by the end of this book only one I cared about was Aunt Luna. Give my chances of reading next slim chance as this story is very similar to author’s Hollows series, dynamics very similar.
"If I were in his shoes, knowing someone had information that could potentially solve the deaths of Tim and Samuel..." You already solved the deaths. The deaths have been solved. Ugh this English is atrocious. You don't fucking solve deaths.
"I wasn't used to this sort of kindness. Hell. I've never gotten any." What? I've? I'd? Figure your tenses out.
"I managed to slam the bank door on my way out." Uh, what the fuck kind of bank has a door you can slam?
"Give me my bag, Blake. I won't ash you again." "Give it back. I won't ask you again." "Give it back."
"Weird how he'd used 'meaningless' when speaking hypothetically of me and Orik shagging. Like he was certain I wouldn't enjoy myself or like it." That isn't what meaningless sex means.
"Her smile was forced despite the worry in her eyes." *slow blink*
"Though I still felt achy and sick, the tonic had brought me back from the brink of feeling like I'd been hit by a car." What?
"Without my aunt or your help, I would have died." Without my aunt's and your help?
"so as not to gouge our eyes out by the nearest branches." with? on?
"The buer hissed at me, baring its fangs and forming a low growl deep in its chest as I approached. Smoke emitted from its large body. Cristina's magic had worked well. The creature lunged at me, fangs bared and claws extended. I barely managed to dodge its razor-sharp claws, but a scratch still scored by arm before I could back away. A burst of pain served as a reminder that I wasn't invincible. But I didn't care. I had to end this tonight. I twisted my shadow blade in my hand as I rushed forward again. The ground quaked as the buer demon emerged."
Emerged from where? It was never fucking hidden. It was never surrounded by anything from which it would emerge.
"he suddenly tilted his head and pressed his lips against the corner of my mouth. My heart raced as he did the same to the other side, pulling gently on my lips. I was caught off guard by his actions but found myself responding eagerly, kissing him back with equal fervor."
fer·vor /ˈfərvər/ noun intense and passionate feeling.
gentle pecks to the sides of the mouth... such fervor.
at 79% through this book, the second in the series: "Dash was a member of The Forsaken--a group of evil individuals who only cared about power and were willing to sacrifice innocent lives to attain it."
Yes, we are fucking aware.
FMC is actively participating in a conversation. One might even say she is leading the conversation: "'According to my aunt, they wouldn't hesitate to remove her from you if they deem her a danger. If Blake reports her.' Annette sucked in a breath, her grip tightening on the edge of the table as anguish etched across her face. Tilly narrowed her eyes at me. 'Why do you keep saying that? I told you. He won't. He wouldn't do this.' 'Even if he did,' I chimed in..."
Bitch, no one is chiming shit. Do you understand what it means to chime in?
"He had a reliable quality to him, to his manor." His fucking manor? Really? He had a reliable quality to his abode?
"'Sure there is,' I pressed, leaning in closer. 'Your mouth is moving, I threat." Are you drunk?
Not really interested in the next one aside from, you know, practicing my editing skills.
WARNING! Cliffhanger! This one is definitely a 5/5 on the trauma scale type cliffhanger… and yes, it is the beginning of a new story, but it still ends on a cliffhanger.
Kat finds herself investigating another death in her old town, this time it seems that demons might be involved. The Forsaken are still around, and trying to use Kat, plus she has her toxic family to deal with; and Dash is present and still mysterious.
This is the second book in the series, and picks up a little after the end of book one. Our thirty-seven (I did get the age wrong last time which I figured out after I wrote the review lol) detective is dealing with a lot. She’s attracted to a guy who is keeping secrets, constantly battling an annoying sheriff, and dealing with the family who abused her. She’s started to make friends in town, though it’s not easy, and of course she is also dealing with the creepy critters that crawl in the dark. She’s a strong character, but not at her best in this book- she makes some big mistakes, which are incredibly frustrating for the reader. At the same time, the mystery behind her magic grows deeper although we do seem some answers regarding Dash. It’s a good book, with a mystery that is fairly quickly cleared up, and an ongoing story that grows ever more complicated. I’m looking forward to finding out more about Kat’s abilities and hoping her mistakes aren’t irreversible!
An enjoyable book, this is for the PWF/Paranormal mystery lovers out there.
Things with the Forsaken are not over. Kat and friends won the battle but not the war. And there’s a new demon that has been killing people. Just more stuff for Kat to figure out.
Kat is also still trying to figure Dash out. And the Sheriff is riding her hard for the name of her source who happens to be Dash. Things are getting interesting .
I don’t consider this book a cliffhanger. The problem with the demon is solved. The Forsaken issues are a hook and won’t be solved until the last book in the series. And with the twist in last few pages in this book, I am looking forward to the next book.
First off I should say I read a lot. And by a lot I mean 5 to 10 books a week. I churn through them like butter. I’m pretty forgiving of grammar and spelling issues as long as the plot and characters are interesting and the editing isn’t atrocious. So here we have Kim Richardson who is a pretty decent writer. Plots are usually interesting and lots of fun characters. Until Kat. What a useless heroine. No one who makes that many bad decisions should survive to the end of the book. She’s not cute or snarky or anything but enraging. I’m cheering for the bad guys at this point. Having said all that, I’ll probably finish the book, but I’m really really hoping this completely useless main character gets a clue really soon.
Magic of Blood and Ash (The Witches of Moonfell Book 2)
Unnerving, tense, but an addictive tale. The second book in this trilogy heightens the 'edge of the seat' fear and anxiety factor. Brilliant book that I highly recommend. For those that can expand their imagination to encompass witches, shifters, dark mages and a relentlessly impulsive, stubborn unique female Investigator, who can never back away when the odds are stacked against her. Her knee jerk reactions and choices, pushing her further and further into burning all her bridges behind her. Will she survive? Who knows! A must have series, to delve into!
Kat Lawless has returned to Moonfell, the town she fled from after being rejected by her family for not having magic (or so they thought). She’s after a demon that has been killing people in Moonfell, and looking for the summoner of the demon. She succeeds but the summoner is a shock to everyone. I’d be more invested in the heroine if she wasn’t portrayed as being somewhat inept in using her magic, being way too impetuous and always ending someone to rescue her. Still it’s a good read, and I’m curious about where the story is going as Kat has just joined the Dark Side.
Just finished the 2nd booking and am anxiously awaiting the next book and as with all of Ms Richardson's books I was completely hooked on the series within a few sentences into book 1 she is one of the few authors that I feel comfortable enough to buy entire series all at once if I could I'd give this series 10 stars
There's is so much going on and yet the deeper we begin to peek into Kat's family and the new friends around her, the more questions come up. The characters all mesh together nicely but Dash and Kat continue to be the biggest mystery along with The Forsaken. On the edge waiting to find out more and continue to follow this series.
Oh I’m definitely obsessed with Kat and her story!! I have so many questions about Dash! I really want to like the chief but I just can’t. I really like the neighbors- they’ve become friends I don’t think Kat realizes she needs. I love her aunt! There’s so much awesome I could say and talk about with this book but I’m dying to get into book 3!!
Cute. Scorrevole e leggibile.
I cannot tell you how much this FL ticks me off. She is reckless, does not want anyone’s help, and is just plain dumb. Always jumps first and thinks of the consequences after. Honestly she is a walking disaster and at times I had to put the book down due to being to angry at how dumb she can be. I’ll give her this much, she is selfless..but at what cost.
Great story line. It definitely keeps you guessing what kind of magic Kat possesses that she may not be aware of. Kat is truly a dysfunctional and fast to solve everyone’s problems except her own. She went way out on the limb in this second book. Her last save could either destroy or benefit her. Guess I will find out in book three.
This one started in the Land of TSTL and pretty much stayed there the whole time. Kat was an absolute idiot the entire book. Blake was an absolute ass. Dash was mentioned in some way on every page (pretty much) for some reason. Nope, I'm done.
I really enjoyed the first book, but then this one left me questioning the heroine's decisions. The writer is good, and Kat is a bad-ass, but wtf was she thinking?!
There’s soooo much going on in this book, it’s hard to keep the storyline and the characters straight. Kat is an independent queen but is also incredibly reckless and impulsive and not in an impressive way. I’m really hoping we can get some more clarity in the next book.
Wow, what a fantastic read. I really had a hard time putting the book down. I love the characters and the storyline. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Awesome new paranormal series. Easy to read & fast paced. We learnt more character background information in this book. Ends on a cliffhanger- roll on book 3.
