The Immortal Accords #10

Above Cursed Winds

Rate this book
No one would ever look at her and see a villain.

Zia is cursed, fearing the day she falls in love. When the enemy breaches immortal defenses and exposes their vulnerabilities, she must fix her mistake, even if it means partnering with an Elemental determined to condemn her. As Jeremiah breaks down her defenses, she learns that he isn’t what he seems—and their chemistry is undeniable.

Deep within Jeremiah’s soul, something has irreparably shattered. Seeing his best friend murdered changed him, and out of that pain came cruelty. Guilt and regret begin to tear him apart, and his only chance of surviving rests with the woman whose innocence is in question.

Neither can resist the passion that burns between them, even as fate ties them together in a game with fatal consequences. The closer they come to solving the riddle, the deadlier the game becomes.

I enjoyed this book as I do all the books in this series. Angsty, emotional, complicated, and suspenseful all while maintaining an overall lighter feel.

This is book 10 in the Immortal Accords Series. This book can be read as a stand alone, but will be enjoyed and appreciated much more read in succession with the other books. The romance is this book is an angsty slower burn. The book does remain fairly clean, while still maintaining a very adult relationship between the characters. The book moves at a steady pace as Jeremiah and Zia work to discover how a security breach has happened that gave their enemies the location to some of their most vulnerable members. Along the way feelings develop, and new complications arise leaving them both shocked with a truth they didn’t see coming. This book combines the paranormal romance and mystery that has you flipping pages to figure out who did it as well watching the romance unfold with ease.

I absolutely love the way Ms. Hawke writes angst and tension, while still keeping her stories romantic and heartwarming. The relationship between the two leads was fantastic and I like how they went from being antagonistic toward each other to loving each other. However, the stories that really stood out to me were the ones between Jeremiah and Myko, and between Jeremiah and Gideon. Both of those stories kept me invested and Myko's character was so sweet and endearing. Also, remembering the scenes from Gideon's book, Against Immortal Sins, made the tension between these two so much more heart wrenching. This was another great addition to the series, and I am very much looking forward to Nero's book.

Y'all. The more I read this series, the higher my anxiety gets. So many twists and turns. So much love for my favorite characters and the new ones that are being introduced. So much fear of one of them ending up dead before the series ends. I just can't handle it! Gah! I have never had my emotions so jumbled and mixed and just all over the place as I have had with this series. I know I'm going to be a complete and utter mess before it's all over with. But. I. Just. Can't. Stop!

Words can not express the love I have for this book. From beginning to end, I was hooked. I was quickly immersed in all things Jeremiah and Zia. Their anguish that flows off the pages. Their ups and downs. Their fears. Their fragile hearts. Their quiet love that can easily be broken. Their love and protection of Myko. Every single minuet detail of this book will forever be ingrained in my heart. Once again, my heart was ripped out and shattered into a million pieces while reading this heartachingly beautiful story. There is just no other way to describe it.

Things are starting to get real with the Citizens and it's killing me not knowing what in the world is going to happen. You get to see little bits and pieces of what they've been doing in each book, but it's never enough to get a good picture of what's in store. And that is seriously the worst feeling in the world. All heck is going to break loose and it's going to leave me reeling.

Even though it's going to be the death of me, I highly recommend giving this series a try. Ms. Hawke leaves me in awe every single time I pick up one of her books. I have yet to read one that I didn't like, one that didn't have me feeling all the feels, one that has turned me into a big ol' pile of goo when it comes to all the swoony goodness between all the couples. You might curse her like I do, but you will love her... I promise!

As for my casting... *dreamy sigh* LOVE!

ARC REVIEW

Above Cursed Winds
Rating: 🌟⭐️⭐️🌟
Clean read with mild language

In this next installment of The Immortal Accords series, Jeremiah is a broken man from the loss (and later resurrection) of his best friend and leader. Lashing out with anger and bitterness are par for his course. An unexpected security breach that puts younglings and risk sends him to the Raeth lands in Hawaii to work with Zia to uncover the cause of the breach and to put protocols in place to prevent further risk to any younglings and immortal homes. Zia has a complicated history as well and ends up far too entangled with this bitter man than she’d prefer. But will their animosity for one another define their working relationship, or will they be able to work past it?

This was by far the best installment in this series so far. I loved every bit of it and it truly showcased the author’s growth as a writer. Myko was adorable and I really enjoyed Nero’s and Zia’s characters, but Jeremiah’s growth and “rebirth” was the most compelling aspect of this story.

Oh my gosh, this got me in the feels!!!

This was a bit of a slow burn for me but once I got into it (chef's kiss) I couldn’t put it down I was so emotionally invested, I wanted to scream, to shout and I nearly cried of these characters. My heart both melted and broke for Myko every time he was mentioned, I would love to hear more about him in the future.
As always I don’t wanna spoil anything for you so you have to go read this yourself you won’t be disappointed.

This book was given to me as an ARC read for an honest review. all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Loved this book! I didn’t realise it was part of a series until I started reading. But I didn’t need to of read the previous books before it to understand the history of the characters and the backstory for the supporting characters. It can be read as a standalone.

The story was so well written, with character development and descriptions, amazing world building and it had a great storyline too. No spice, but slow burn love story. (Almost) enemy to lovers.

I will def read the others in the series and can’t wait for the next book!

I received this book as an ARC and am leaving this honest reviews voluntarily.

Zia raeth, shield, born of creation and can alter memories and emotions with the memories. Second in command to Nero. Black rainbow hued hair with bright neon blue eyes. Zia pet name of “boo” was weird to me.

Jeremiah red head, blue eyed, wind elemental with rage from watching his best friend die. He is not the same. His best friends are mated and he was alone.

Nero can resist telepathic shields… Author Anna is finally telling us all the things he can do.

There is some violence and self destructive behavior. A couple curse words. And kissing only scenes that move to closed door but descriptive.

Spoiler; why didn’t the mating kill Jeremiah because of her curse?

One thing I absolutely love about Anna's books are the unexpected twists, seat clenching plot and the beautiful growth journey of her characters. In this case, two people struggling with immense guilt, especially Jeremiah, get to work through the guilt, pain, and fears. I absolutely adored Myko! The purity of little children is an healing ingredient on its own!!! 🥰
I've been a huge fan of Raeths and their abilities but Jeremiah's ability was awesome!!!
All made for another epic 5 star read!

Okay, so this book was just, well, phenomenal. I've always enjoyed reading about a fictional world of various supernatural beings - of their powers and abilities, their oftentimes complicated and messy relationships, their follies and limitations, and the evil they all fight against. This book truly had it all, and more. I loved the characters and how each of them were a crucial part of the story, despite the fact that they of course each had differing amounts of focus in the book. I loved the unfolding of the main characters' relationship: how Zia and Jeremiah started on the wrong foot but slowly but surely saw through their masks and found a connection they could not deny. Both were impeccably strong and fierce characters whose vulnerabilities made them more relatable and likeable. And of course the agonizing suspense of the entire plot just kept me riveted to the book all throughout. The story's utterly satisfying conclusion of course made the agony all worth it. I now look eagerly forward to the next installment of the series. This has truly been a solid five-star read for me.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
