The Senses Series #2

The Taste of Deceit

Astrid

The lethally gorgeous guy I’ve been flirting with turns out to be a famous billionaire-duke—and the man who stood me up for one of the most important meetings of my career. Before I can recover from the shock, I put my foot in it. He’s probably too turned off to take any further interest in me. Imagine my surprise when, after I kiss another man at a club, his Lordship stakes his claim on me.

Now he won’t let me go, even when he has to marry another woman to protect his family’s renowned art collection. But I refuse to be anyone’s bit on the side, and I won’t ruin his chances to keep what he—and his family—hold most dear.

Geraint

As soon as I meet her, I have to possess her. But since women often fall for my title and wealth and she’s been with a lot of men, I need to take things slowly. To complicate matters, my father’s will gives away our family art—unless I marry my old friend Shannon. I’m determined to find another way, because I refuse to lose the art or Astrid, the woman I delight in destabilizing at every turn.

Only it turns out Shannon’s and my families have been keeping secrets from me, and now I don’t know whom to trust. All I know is, I’m addicted to the way Astrid challenges me, and I won’t let her go.

This dark romance with BDSM elements captures two points of view. Though it has a sequel, it can be enjoyed as a standalone. Please note that it ends on a cliffhanger, which the third of the series, The Feel of Possession, resolves.

Formerly an academic, I took up writing romance recently and quite by accident. In early 2022 the right elements conjoined—my love of villains, my taste for high comedy, and my pull towards strong women. Now I can’t stop cooking up plots and drawing new characters. Though I write mostly dark romance, I invariably weave plenty of reality into the fantasy. My preference for lone wolves, quirky characters, and intense plot results in what my reader and author friends call romance with teeth. I live in Berkeley, California with my dachshund-Chihuahua, Pooh-bah. When I’m not writing, I love traveling, cooking, playing piano, and cycling in the nearby hills.

The Taste of Deceit is the second book in the Sense Series by Kathleen Haley. I received an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.

Geraint and Astrid had me intrigued from the first book - The Smell of Fear - and when I realised that their story would be told in book 2... I had to get my grubby little paws on this very one!!! ... I am so freaking happy that I did. I devoured this one. The plot, the characters - the freaking chemistry!?!? So so fucking good. Go read the blurb or details because you know I am not going to rehash all that here. I am here to to tell you - if you love elegance... Elegant powerful dominant men and confident independant women who challenge each other, who together have off the chart chemistry written in words that are breathtaking - this is the one for you.

Please note that there are triggers here - especially as there are a few BDSM elements, kidnapping and a few others that you may want to have a peek at on Kathleen Haley's website. I have no triggers - well except for those damn cliffhangers!! This one had one - damnit.!
But it's ok - I'll be fine - because I was sent The Feel of Possession the third in the series to climb right into.

The Taste of Deceit

Astrid and Geraint's story has me in a chokehold. You have a Duke as the hero, an otherworldly man with a penchant for control. The way he dominates every single scene and FMC, Astrid, it's pure gasoline. Super hot. His darkness is refreshing, done in a way where he gets his way that Astrid is compelled to submit to hi. Astrid is his perfect match, fiery, a colourful soul with a series of issues of her own, and their chemistry is central to the spinning world around them.

Astrid finds herself falling deeper in with Geraint, lulled by his charms, into his world of aristocrats, high society and secrets. A father who controls Geraint from the grave with an impossible will, ploys and schemes keeping him from her. We also have Astrid having to come into terms with her father's side of the family- this is a very happening book.

It's a page turner, and the narration tone the author takes one, breaking up high tensed moments with banter and quips is done tastefully. The smut scenes are sizzling hot, and Ger can take my panties off anytime ;)

I loved the side characters, Fox and Gwynn shine through, Godolphin household members - truly well portrayed. Can't even hate the villains.

Book ended on a high note and has left me with an insane need to read more of these characters. This is dark romance with substance, added plot and intrigue. Haley has me bewitched with how masterfully she has woven art, Italy and London in her book.

I was honoured to be selected to be an ARC reader. OMG, this has definitely become one of the best books I have read so far this year. I became the characters while feeling the intensity of everything they are going through. Geraint and Astrid have become characters that challenge everything from each other to the rest of society. Cliffhanger of note. I need to read more and can’t wait for it to be released. Absolutely loved the book. Thank you @kathleenhaley for bringing this new adventure to those that love reading.

Love…Money….And Art….nothing could go wrong…right?

Wrong. If you haven’t read this book then what are you waiting for?!??

Kathleen Haley brings to life a whole new world with this book. Geraint (The MMC) is a dominant, stormy/grumpy, touch her and croak kinda lover while Astrid (The MFC) is a sunshine, newly submissive, brat who has worked her tail off to be where she is in life.

These two characters will leave you laughing, crying, questioning and shocked throughout the entire story. Astrid is a a free thinker who loves art and loves life; while Geraint is a realist who also loves art and loves her.

A billionaire and his girl, I never thought this kind of love would appeal to me but it sure did and it sucked me in to a whirlwind of emotions and trials I was way unprepared for. I can not get over how AMAZING this book was.

The writing style is beautiful, the story is wonderful, and all in all this was one of the best romance novels I have read in a minute. Love it. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Until then,

See you all on the flip side ;)

The Taste of Deceit is the second book in Kathleen Haley’s Senses Series, and, dare I say, it’s even better than the first! We first met Astrid and Geraint in book one, The Smell of Fear – Astrid being Gwynn’s best friend, and Geraint is Fox’s. The attraction is instant, and the burn is slow, and I’m here it all.

One of the best elements of this book is the family drama. It all starts from beyond the grave, with Geraint’s father pulling strings to get his way by choosing who his son marries and for how long. What ensues is a twisty turny plot that includes secrets and lies and murder. And, did I mention kidnapping? Yup, there’s that, too! I’m a sucker for a good kidnapping storyline.

What do you get when you combine a sassy brat and a demanding dominant? FIRE. You get FIRE. Geraint is so sexy I’d probably get under a table and give him oral while he’s having a meeting, too. I mean, he has an English accent, he’s titled, he’ll take you to a museum after hours and screw your brains out. What’s not to like? As in the first book, there are BDSM elements and they are hot.

The Taste of Deceit ends on a cliffhanger, but thankfully, this book and the next publish on the same day so you won’t have to wait to find out what’s going to happen.

This is a terrific contemporary romance 🥰 with some BDSM included, I am not claiming it is BDSM exactly as there isn’t a lot of BDSM, but there is some for sure. Ehh Read it and figure it out. lol 🤣

The main male character is an English Duke and the main female character is a marketing executive. The two of them have some serious chemistry going on. There is some complications in their relationship, but it does work out in the end.

I really liked the characters and I found the story very entertaining. There is a decent amount of smutty scenes and there is talk of butt stuff, but nothing as yet beyond a mention of it for the future. Possibly in the next book, as this one ends in a bit of a cliffhanger.
Since there is a Cliffhanger this story ends on a HFN and not a HEA as yet.

Page turner, that’s what this book is. It was frustrating to have the fmc unaware of what was going on, though I understand the reasoning. The troubles for the mmc were driving me crazy and I absolutely detested his childhood friends…. The things that were revealed in this book were great. I kept trying to guess what was going on but there were twists that I was not expecting. I greatly appreciated that although the mmc was possessive and could force some issues with the fmc, he backed off and respected her wishes. Highly recommended series!

Astrid and Geraint's story truly had my head spinning. He trying to over power her in ways she doesn't realize she wants. She, as an independent woman, pushes back when he tries to tame her. Their story becomes dark in so many other ways, I couldn't put the book down. Then there's a cliffhanger.. K. Haley, you did it again👏

**Trigger Warnings: Stalking, Sexual Assault, Emotional Manipulation, Physical Punishment, Kidnapping**

**(Spoiler Warning: The following review contains spoilers about key plot developments)**

"The Taste of Deceit" by Kathleen Haley is a riveting dark romance filled with twists, power struggles, and complex relationships. The story follows Astrid, who is trying to balance her career and personal life in London, and Geraint, a man with a mysterious past and a domineering presence.

The novel opens with a chaotic day for Astrid, marked by rain, missed trains, and a series of unfortunate events that culminate in her missing an important meeting with Lord Astbury, effectively costing her a promotion. Flash forward, Astrid is meeting her friend Gwynn (from the first book, "The Smell of Fear") and Gwynn’s partner, Fox. Here, she is introduced to Geraint, who she instantly feels a strong attraction to, only to later discover he is Lord Astbury.

Their relationship begins with witty banter and mutual interest but quickly becomes complicated when Astrid discovers Geraint's true identity and his family obligations. Geraint's father's death and his arranged betrothal to Shannon, a woman he must marry to secure his family's artwork, create a tension-filled backdrop for their burgeoning relationship.

Geraint's dominant personality and Astrid's initial resistance set the stage for a series of power plays and emotional confrontations. Geraint buys Astrid art supplies, imposes rules on her pleasure, and slowly brings her into his world of dominance and control. Despite the manipulative undertones, their chemistry is undeniable, and Astrid finds herself drawn deeper into Geraint’s orbit.

As Geraint and Astrid's relationship evolves, they face numerous obstacles, including Geraint’s jealous and manipulative betrothed, Shannon, and the pressures from his family. Astrid's own family issues, particularly with her mother, add another layer of complexity to her interactions with Geraint. Throughout their tumultuous relationship, Geraint’s actions oscillate between protective and controlling, leaving Astrid in a constant state of emotional turmoil.

Geraint’s plan to marry Shannon while keeping Astrid on the side creates a significant conflict. Astrid, though initially willing to challenge Geraint, finds herself increasingly entangled in his life. A dramatic turn of events sees Astrid kidnapped, and Geraint’s relentless efforts to rescue her reveal the depth of his feelings for her.

The climax is marked by revelations and betrayals, including the true nature of Shannon and Clive’s relationship and the dark secrets of Geraint’s family. Astrid’s clever maneuvering ultimately exposes Shannon’s manipulations and secures her own position in Geraint’s life.

"The Taste of Deceit" is a masterfully crafted tale of love, power, and revenge. Kathleen Haley deftly navigates the dark romance genre, creating complex characters and a gripping plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Fans of intense and provocative love stories will find this book an enthralling addition to their collection.

This is my favorite book of Kathleen Haley’s so far! You will never be disappointed with the writing style, as Kathleen does a fabulous job of giving you richly detailed works that immerse you in the world she creates. Get ready to be taken to London and fall in love with a delicious, billionaire Duke who has a penchant for control. Did I become a puddle for Duke Astbury? Yes, and you will too.

We met Astrid and Geraint in Book 1 of the series, The Smell of Fear. I was excited to get their backstory, as Geraint’s personality appealed to me more than Fox (sorry, not sorry). Geraint is full of effortless grace, charm, and has a commanding presence; he is an enigma you cannot help but gravitate towards. When Astrid gets on his radar? There is no other option but for her to be his, and she couldn’t pull away if she tried *same, girl…not that I would pull away😂*

Astrid meets Geraint through her best friend, Gwynn, and she can’t help but be captivated by his otherworldly beauty and effortless charm. Turns out that Geraint, the man she’s been flirting with, is a famous billionaire-duke AND the man who stood her up at a meeting that was critical for her marketing career. Turns out, Geraint had a very good reason and Astrid is sure that he’s decided not to take any interest in her…he didn’t ask for her number after all.

But, men like Geraint don’t play by traditional rules. When Astrid happens to run into Geraint out at a bar, and he’s talking with a woman clearly from his social circle, Astrid kisses another man to get a rise out of him. *Cue ominous music.*

Geraint doesn’t take too kindly to petty displays to make him jealous and sets the record straight. Astrid is his–his to claim. Geraint has trust issues given his status and tendency to attract the wrong kind of women; women who don’t want him for who he is but rather what he can do for them. To make matters worse, while Geraint feels this undeniable pull towards Astrid, his father’s will is going to force him to give away his family’s art unless he marries an old friend, Shannon (the only time she gets mentioned–she is now, “she who must not be named,” because she’s the worst).

With obstacles and family secrets at every turn, will Geraint be able to keep Astrid and avoid losing his family’s legacy? Or will his chance at keeping the woman who challenges him at every turn blow up in smoke?

The dynamic between Astrid and Geraint was 🔥🔥🔥 I was lulled by Geraint’s charms and falling deeper in lust and love with him alongside Astrid. The banter and quips shared between these two, was entertaining and the book ended on a high note despite a bit of a sinister cliffhanger. I’m itching to see what happens next!

This is the second book in “The Senses Series” and I could not put it down! You will love Geraint and Astrid’s story - it is a page turner. Geraint is a wealthy aristocrat and Astrid is a Commoner. This story is a lot different in many ways to “The Smell of Fear” - it is not as dark and controlling on the same level but boy, it sizzles! Geraint loves Astrid’s independent nature - except in the “bedroom” - that is his domain. He is very possessive of Astrid but you see as the story goes along, he respects her independence more and admires it. She challenges him, mentally and physically! The relationship is spicy, it is steamy and extremely hot 🥵

This book will grab your attention from the first chapter! You have family secrets, intrigue, lies, murder, yes murder, unwanted marriage, mystery, and the story of a couple, overcoming their pasts, to fall in love with each other 💗 So many twists and turns …. never a dull moment. This book ends on a cliffhanger - cannot wait for the next book in the series, “The Feel of Possession”.

I could not put this book down, page to page, chapter to chapter - read in less than a day! Nearly every page sizzles with hot wanton sex or the thoughts or possibilities that could happen! The book, like the first one in the the series, is addictive - I did not want it to end! You are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊

Thank you to the Author for giving me the privilege of ARC read The Taste of Deceit in exchange for an honest review.

I have to start by saying that I truly enjoyed this book. So well written! 'The Taste of Deceit' is the second installment in the 'Senses Series.' While this standalone novel introduces characters, Geraint and Astrid who appear on the first installment of the series, it can be read as a standalone.

The story revolves around the conflict that arises after Geraint's father's will stipulates that he must marry another woman to retain his family's priceless artwork. This demand threatens to shatter his budding romance with Astrid.

The chemistry between Geraint and Astrid is undeniable. Their intense connection leaps off the page, creating an almost palpable electricity. Astrid's relatable nature and Geraint's enigmatic dominance make them an intriguing and compelling couple.

Haley expertly balances the romantic elements with a thrilling plot that includes kidnapping and murder. While the story does feature some BDSM elements, it is not overly explicit and maintains a sensual allure rather than being overtly graphic.

The cliffhanger ending will leave you eager for more, hinting at the complex web of deceit and danger that will unfold in the next installment.

Overall, 'The Taste of Deceit' is a tantalizing read that will satisfy fans of historical romance, intrigue, and passionate desire. Readers who enjoy authors such as Sarah MacLean and Tessa Dare will find much to appreciate in Kathleen Haley's captivating tale.

This was a 4.25 Stars Read for me!

I was honored to be selected as an arc reader for Kathleen Haley's second book in her Sense Series, The Taste of Deceit.

This story follows Geraint and Astrid, a couple that was introduced in her first book, The Smell of Fear. This book can be read as a standalone, but having read the first book, I felt like I enjoyed the story more because I had more context as to what was happening. This story also ends on a cliffhanger.

After the passing of Geraint's father, a stipulation that was left in his will is causing a big disruption to Geraint's life and preventing him from attaining happiness with the one he truly loves. His father is forcing him to marry another woman in order to keep their priceless family artwork. This comes about just as Geraint meets Astrid and even though he can't help what his father is demanding from beyond the grave, he also can't seem to let Astrid go.

The chemistry between the characters was sizzling... You could almost feel the intensity of them as you read the story. I found Astrid to be very relatable in the way she was portrayed. Just a normal everyday girl, taking the train, socializing with friends, job hopping. And when she is with Geraint, just like any normal girl, she has that element of jealousy and protectiveness. Geraint radiates dominance, but I think that stems from his title as Duke. I wouldn't say this story was BDSM, though it did have some BDSM elements. It is, however, very spicy. It also involves kidnapping and murder, so please check your trigger warnings!

The Taste of Deceit, the second instalment in the Senses Series, follows Astrid and Geraint both of whom featured in the first book. I was very excited to read their story as I loved Astrid’s character. I also loved Gwynn and Fox’s appearances who were the main characters from the first book.
Astrid’s independence and fierce nature is a perfect match to Geraint’s dominant nature, and they challenge each other both physically and mentally. The sizzling chemistry had me hooked.

Their relationship starts off strongly as they share mutual attraction however, they hit an obstacle when Geraint is forced to agree to an arranged marriage in order to secure his family’s artwork following the death of his father. The question of whether their blossoming relationship would survive or whether it would be severed before it could properly begin is one that had me enthralled.
This is dark romance with an intriguing plot, tantalising smut and fantastic writing. The spicy scenes are raunchy yet tastefully done and well written. The writing offers witty banter, clever plot with twists I didn’t see coming, portrayals of stunning settings that made me feel like I was right there and delicious depictions of food!

There was a satisfying climax with betrayals being brought to light as all is not what it seemed. However, it ended on a cliffhanger at the end! It was intense and I am glad I had the next book ready to dive into.

Astrid discovers that the charming man she’s been flirting with is a billionaire duke who once stood her up for a crucial career meeting. Despite her shock and embarrassment, he stakes his claim on her after she kisses another man. Determined not to let her go, he faces a dilemma: he must marry another woman to protect his family’s art collection. However, Astrid refuses to be a side affair and doesn’t want to jeopardize his family’s legacy.

Geraint is instantly captivated by Astrid and feels compelled to possess her. Though women often seek him for his title and wealth, he decides to take things slowly with Astrid, who has a complex romantic history. Adding to the complication, his father’s will requires him to marry his old friend Shannon to keep the family art. Determined to find another way, Geraint won’t lose either the art or Astrid. As family secrets come to light, his trust is shattered, but his desire for Astrid remains unwavering.

Geraint and Astrid’s story is a dark romance filled with twists, turns, and revenge. The family dynamics and insight into deceptive old-fashioned dynasties add depth to the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, with Kathleen delivering justice where it was due. Shannon quickly became a disliked character, and the cliffhanger was surprising and satisfying.

Kathleen executed her characters exceptionally well, evoking strong emotions of love or hate where needed.

This book really latches on to your brain and I guarantee you will want to jump right in to the next book, The Feel of Possession.

Kathleen does an amazing job of giving incredibly detailed descriptions and explanations in this story. You can picture every single scene perfectly and it really envelops you into the story.

I also find it so refreshing how Geraint loves Astrid’s imperfections and points out the differences in her features that are different from society’s traditional beauty standards. It’s refreshing to see that appreciation for a woman’s true beauty. I feel like this fact alone made me love this story even more.

Walking into this book I knew as much as the description let on. I’ve read my fair share of darker romance books containing the billionaire, family secrets, and love triangle tropes so I expected a few things going into this. But honestly all of the twists and turns ended up being unexpected. Without spoiling anything, I was pleasantly surprised with the sheer amount of surprises in this book. And the book ending in the cliffhanger that SCREAMS murder mystery vibes was just an incredible place to leave off to get me into the next book. I’m already about 30% into the next book and I’m loving it just as much as I loved The Taste of Deceit!

Overall, this is a great spicy romance to add to your TBR.

☁︎ This was a good spicy read with a lot of plot. The characters are well-developed and complex. They feel realistic and relatable throughout most of the book. The Taste of Deceit is the second book in the Sense Series by Kathleen Haley

I received a free ARC from Voracious Readers Only and am voluntarily writing an unbiased review.

You do not need to read the first book in the series to enjoy this book but it does end in a cliffhanger.

At first I didn't like the mfc Astrid and mmc Geraint but as the storyline progressed, I started to like them more and more to the point I couldn't wait to read the final book in the series. When Geraint first lays eyes on Astrid he has to have her. The first time Astrid meets Geraint she is very sexually attracted to him. Astrid is independent, intelligent and beautiful and Geraint is a British Aristocrat who is extremely powerful and domineering in all aspects of his life. Although Geraint is known by everyone, Astrid has no idea who he is which he uses to his advantage to see if she a gold digger or is infatuated with him as is. A secret and mystery develops in Geraint's life that he tries to keep away from Astrid.

I gave this book a 5 star rating because I loved it even with my initial dislike of the main characters. The story line draws you in quickly and is very inventive to keep your attention to the very end. There is a lot a sexy times in this book so I do not recommend for those under the age of 18.

**The Taste of Deceit by Kathleen Haley** is a thrilling and suspenseful novel that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Haley masterfully weaves a tale of lies, betrayal, and unexpected twists that leave you questioning everything you think you know about the characters.

The story revolves around [brief description of the plot or main characters], and Haley’s ability to create complex, multifaceted characters is truly impressive. Each one is flawed, relatable, and deeply human, which makes their journeys all the more compelling. The plot is tightly constructed, with suspense building gradually until it reaches a heart-pounding climax that will leave you breathless.

One of the standout aspects of this book is Haley’s sharp, evocative writing. She paints vivid pictures of the settings and emotions, drawing you into the world she has created. The dialogue is crisp and natural, adding depth to the characters and the tension between them.

For fans of psychological thrillers and mysteries, *The Taste of Deceit* is a must-read. Haley has crafted a gripping narrative that explores the darker side of human nature with intelligence and insight. This book is a perfect blend of suspense, drama, and a touch of romance, making it an engaging read from beginning to end. Highly recommended!

The Taste of Deceit had me hooked from the very first page to the last one. The relationship that plays out between Astrid and Geraint is full of dark romance mixed with a sense of fierce protectiveness and loyalty. Their world is clearly flushed out and complex, immediately setting me in modern day England with the complicated situations that arise in the aristocracy. I loved the tinge of political tension that was woven into the story and increasing the stakes for these characters!

Geraint is such a dreamy British Lord, with the swagger and just enough arrogance to make him enticing rather than obnoxious. I love how Astrid has her own power and voice in the story as well, and how she makes her own path rather than just allowing Geraint and his complicated familial dynamic to interfere. They are compelling in different ways, but make a pair worth continuing to follow.

I am more than excited to read the sequel, The Feel of Possession, which releases on the same day. Astrid and Geraint’s story continues there, and the spice and tension that surrounds them throughout this book is certain to be in that as well.

I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own.

The Taste of Deceit is the second book in the Sense Series by Kathleen Haley. I received an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.

I am notorious for not reading book descriptions before starting a book and the book was a welcomed surprise. Astrid and Geraint story was so passionate. For most of the book, I wondered "why is Kathleen writing about my dream man?" It has been a minute since I read a BDSM novel (please read trigger warnings) and this one was perfect. The twists in the story give more than a guy falling in love with a girl chases her but there is an obstacle. The romance and the sexual tension could be felt. Thought I was in the room with them. The book does end up on a cliffhanger and has me wondering about a lot that happens next. It was a great read can't wait for book 3 and I definitely need to go and read book 1.

Family legacies, forced choices, and the love that overcomes

Astrid has had a lot of men in her bed and it's just because she gets bored with them. However, she finds herself flirting with this gorgeous man whom she absolutely wants in her bed. Except suddenly he is standing with another woman and so she decides to mak him jealous by kissing another man. What she doesn't expect is that the gorgeous man is actually billionaire Duke Geraint and he is going to claim her.

As their relationship is growing Geraint is dealing with his lat father's will that stipulates he marry Shannon, an old friend, or he loses all of his families art. Geraint is determined to find a way around this hiccup because he refuses to lose either.

When Shannon forces the engagement announcement Astrid steps away because she will never be the other woman.

Can they find a way to save their love story and the family art collection? What will it cost? Follow as secrets are revealed and no one is safe from the fallout.

This was a great read. There were so many different secrets and surprises. I am off to find out what happens in the next book because there are still so many unanswered questions.

This novel can be read as a standalone and concludes on a cliffhanger. The plot revolves around Geraint and Astrid.
A clause included in Geraint's father's will following his death is really upsetting him and keeping him from finding happiness with the one he really loves. His father is pressuring him to wed someone else so he may retain the heirloom family paintings. This occurs right after Geraint meets Astrid, and he finds that he is unable to let Astrid leave despite his inability to stop his father's demands from beyond the grave. The characters have amazing chemistry with one another. As you read the narrative, you were nearly able to sense their intensity.

The way Astrid was depicted struck me as being so realistic. Merely an ordinary woman who travels by train, interacts with friends, and switches jobs sometimes. Like any other normal person, she also exhibits jealously and protectiveness while she is with Geraint. Geraint exudes power, but I believe that's because he is a Duke. Although this narrative has some BDSM components, I wouldn't call it was BDSM. But it's really spicy. Please review your trigger warnings because it also includes murder and kidnapping!

This is the second book in the "Sense" series by Kathleen Haley.  I proudly received this book as an ARC reader to give my honest review and wow... this book has it all going on!!
I thought it would be difficult to like the two main characters as much as  I loved Fox and Gwynn from the first of the series but I was wrong. And the fact that the main characters from the previous story, featured in this book was lovely.
Astrid is just a ordinary girl who finds herself falling head over heels in love with the noble Duke Geraint. Their relationship makes for some hot, intense, steamy reading!! In fact, I'm glad I was reading this on my kindle or the pages may have caught fire!!
Geraint and Astrid's relationship is faced with so many hurdles they need to overcome. It is a page turner to just try and find out as soon as possible what will happen next!! And the ending, leaving on a massive cliffhanger that I never saw coming, means that I am SO excited for the 3rd book!! It can't get in my hands quick enough!!

There are some possible triggers for people... so just check before reading.

Easy 4 star review from me 🌟🌟🌟🌟

REVIEW
Taste of Deceit BY Kathleen Haley

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kathleen Haley has done it again! This book is the second book in the Sense series. It was fantastic. It follows the story of Geraint and Astrid. I'm not going to lie but I was very excited when I found out book 2 was their story. Now let's just put it this way the plot was just wow, and the characters were so freaking great but to top it off was the heat ... like damn the chemistry went above and beyond in this book. Kathleen defiantly has a way of writing a damn good book! This book has a bit of that dark steamy feeling for sure. I won't lie there were a few parts that were like oh my and really?!?! but I couldn't stay mad long and this book was well worth it. I HIGHLY recommend this book but make sure to read book 1 first. Kathleen has very much outdone herself again and I'm excited at the fact she's allowed me to read book 3 now!

Trigger Warnings: Stalking, Sexual Assault, Emotional Manipulation, Physical Punishment, Kidnapping

The Taste of Deceit was absolutely wild! I thought the twists and turns in The Smell of Fear were intense but boy was I wrong. This book took the suspense and intrigue of The Smell of Fear and turned it on its head. The cliffhanger ending is insidious and I cannot wait to get my questions answered in the next book in the series!

Getaint and Astrid’s relationship is just as intense and delicious as Fox and Gwynn’s but in a delightfully different way. The push and pull between them is just magnetizing and leaves you wanting more. The romance storyline melds seamlessly with the secrets and lies that are unearthed throughout the book as we get to uncover the underbelly of the English aristocracy and what it takes to use and maintain power. It is an exciting additional thread woven throughout.

Though not as dark as its predecessor, The Taste of Deceit still has plenty of spice. Elements of power exchange and D/s dynamics are still present but they differ from what we see from Fox and Gwynn’s relationship.

Overall, TTOD pulls you in and keeps you guessing until the very end!

Geriant and Astrid's story was a rollercoaster! They went through so much just to be together. They really liked each other from the start and just wanted to be left alone. Geriant shocked the crap out of me! You thought he was just a rich, posh aristocrat who doesn't care. He cares very much. He cares so much to the point of sacrificing what he loves. He has art in the family. His dad put in a stipulation that he marry his childhood friend in order to keep it in the family. Geriant didn't want Shannon but he would do it for the art. He was also very spicy with Astrid! Geraint shocked me with his "PDA" & he had to have control as well. Astrid was a sweet girl with a kind heart. She didn't want Geraint to be ripped away from his art & was willing to let him go. I just felt sorry for her almost the whole book. Poor girl! This story was a very fast-paced read & had great side characters as well. I am glad it had a tie ins with Fox & Silver! Overall, this book has a great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat! The spicy is wild & I love it!

I am really struggling to rate this ARC.
I am so impressed with the writing but I believe I am struggling to enjoy the writing. Although, the male character is everything I love in a MMC - I wasn't falling in love with his character or his story..
Don't get me wrong, this book was great writing, just possibly not to my taste.
I definitely preferred the first book in the series and I definitely will prefer the next book in the series but this was a bit of a flop for me.
The cliffhanger .. I didn't feel the oh my what's going to happen, more .. this book probably could have been over by now and condensed to one book.
I'm really struggling with this review. I want to love this book and I like it, but I've read better. Some of the chapters fade away.. and don't give you more which I wanted when other chapters insist on giving every single detail of uninteresting things.
The spice is mhmm.. but I think I needed more. I think I just wanted more from this book and I didn't get it and I hate that.
