Fluid: A Guide for People with Flexible Sexuality

Rate this book
Society recognises a more diverse range of sexual identities than ever before, but people often still think we have to choose one and stick to it forever. If the idea of a single, unchanging sexual identity just doesn't fit right - this is the book for you.

Challenging binary notions of sexuality and gender, this is a deep exploration of fluid sexuality, exploring its relationship to bisexuality, multisexuality, asexuality and gender fluidity. Chapters cover everything from coming out and finding flexible labels, to navigating love, sex and relationships - and looking after your mental health as a fluid person. Combining real life accounts and practical guidance, this wide-ranging guide has all the tips you'll need to explore the joys and challenges of sexual fluidity.

This is a well thought out, well researched, and accessible book about fluid sexuality. I came to this book identifying as Queer, but could really see my own journey in Mark's words. This book was surprisingly validating as I don't think I knew enough about fluid sexuality to identify with the label. After reading it I found more compassion for myself and my own complicated journey with both gender and sexuality. As a therapist to the LGBTQ+ community I can really see this book being valuable to those who are exploring their sexuality, and also to people struggling with shame around how they experience their attractions.

This book has been life changing for me. The content is relatable, informative, and personal. It is narrated perfectly. I feel more in touch with myself and understanding others than I have ever felt and this book has been a huge part of that journey for myself. I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to learn more about understanding themselves or other people, and is looking to find inspiration to live authentically as themselves.

Well written and easy to read it was interesting learning more about fluidity. As an ally I wanted to get a better understanding of the details and this book certainly gave me that. I especially liked the way Mark included snippets from members of the community who shared their experiences. You can tell he has a lot of personal and professional experience and is well informed of the topic.

Several pieces I really liked, and I think this would have been more solid as an essay.

Cusack’s work is an excellent primer for both those who may be fluid as well as those who wish to learn in more scholarly pursuits. The combination of interviews from individuals with their various, fluid identities, and the well-cited resources allow for both personal learning and following the citations.
