Blake A. Hoena grew up in central Wisconsin, where, in his youth, he wrote stories about robots conquering the Moon and trolls lumbering around in the woods behind his parents house, and the fact that the trolls were hunting for little boys had nothing to do with Blake’s pesky brothers. Later, he moved to Minnesota to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Since graduating, Blake has written more than thirty books for children, including retellings of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Perseus and Medusa myth. Most recently, he’s working on a series of graphic novels about two space alien brothers, Eek and Ack, who are determined to conquer our big blue home.

Kids graphic novel about aliens eek and ack who come to earth for halloween. They want to see what gives earthlings their power so they trick or treat. Then they get scared by a wolf and they launch back into space with the wolf on their washing machine space ship! It’s just a boy, but he’s also a wolf. I didn’t like this book because the story was underdeveloped— was the wolf scared of the aliens? Also the female alien is portrayed as very clueless and kind of ditsy. Good artwork though! It also had a glossary, discussion questions and writing prompts in the back so this could be used easily in a school setting.

I have to admit this book cracked me up. Eek & Ack travel to earth in their spaceship - that really looks like a washing machine - to discover why it is so hard to conquer. Their disguises are hilarious - one wearing a tutu and the other in a hooded robe of sorts. They end up traveling to earth on Halloween and meet up with a wolfboy. Let's just say, they're not staying long on this Earth.

This graphic novel is comical and fantastical, elements that I both enjoy. These books will be great for kids who like something a bit more funny. And this is another great book for librarians and teachers - including a glossary, a section talking a bit more about werewolves, discussion questions and writing prompts. Probably a book I'll be purchasing for my school library.

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year -- so I'm already inclined to like this book. But it's also funny. And it's got a Wolfman. And a cross-dressing alien ballerina. What's not to love? Great fun!

Slapstick humor in graphic novel format. Eek and Ack are child aliens. They want to conquer Earth, but Earth remains unconquered. Grade 2 and 3 students will love the goofiness and occasional potty humor.

My son enjoys this series. I read a couple of them, but wasn't planning on reading the rest. However, that changed when he said, mommy... You have to read this. It is so funny.

This story is about two alien brothers who are trying to take over the Earth. In this book they visit Earth on Halloween and try to fit in. They can not fool Wolfman though. Wolfman tries to go back with them on their spaceship but lucky for them they are able to get away but not before Wolfman takes a bite!
I thought this book was interesting. It did not have many words and was mainly made up of dialog. The story line was pretty easy to follow and the illustrations added humor to the book. I think this is a good series for children who are interested in getting into graphic novels.
I would pair this book with the other books in this series. Some examples are Beyond the Black Hole, The Puzzling Pluto Plot and Invaders from the Great Goo Galaxy all written by Blake A. Hoena.
My favorite quote " But I was on a ship from another planet, I even bit an alien!"
