With their supplies reclaimed and food enough for the future, the group at Barry’s cabin can do more than just scrape by. Between fruitful gardens, great friends, and sturdy fences—not to mention karaoke—life in the zompoc is better than ever.
Nothing is perfect, however. Across the country, Safe Zones are mysteriously going dark, and Oregon’s summer weather has turned the forest into a tinderbox. As the unknown danger closes in, and smoke begins to fill the sky, the survivors are all too aware of how quickly plans unravel, fences fall, and luck runs out.
Set in the same universe as the Until the End of the World series and The City Series, The Cascadia Series tells the story of the virus on the West Coast. Where the end of the world is only the beginning.
I'm a wannabe prepper and lover of anything pre-apocalyptic, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic—-or anything in between. Add in some humor and romance, and I'm in heaven.
Besides an unhealthy obsession with home-canned food and Bug Out Bag equipment, I love books, making artsy stuff and laughing my arse off. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I now live in Oregon with my family and, in my opinion, not nearly enough supplies for the zombie apocalypse. But I'm working on it.
Reading this series back to back has renforced my love for reading, I love the angst and heartbreak this genre brings, the survival aspect, the killing of zombies, the close knit group of characters you end up loving like family.
Mother Nature is kicking their asses when a bush fire out of control tears the survivors down the middle cutting half their pack down in half. If that’s not bad enough but more zombies are enforce in the thousands destroying most safe zones in its wake.
This series has ticked all my boxes, I’ve only been reading this genre for the last year or so and it’s one I’ve grown to love and this series is one of my favourite ones.
I’m not sure how long the wait will be but there’s another book coming out in this series on the horizon and I couldn’t be more happier. But if it’s a long wait it’ll be a reread for sure.
World Undone is the 4th book in the Casacadia series. While Rose & Company finally have a moment to relax & celebrate being alive now that they have stopped one crisis another one arises.. society may have come to stand still but Mother Nature hasn’t… can they stick together and survive what’s about to happen? How far will you go for love and to save your loved ones? Can you truly trust any new people in this new world?
This book was so amazing! There are moments you are on the edge of your seat, your laughing and other moments you’ll be crying. Between the growing romances (& new ones) & the found family I loved every minute of it. When any book series goes on sometimes the books in the middle can seem stagnant and filler but not this one. As the 4th book in this series this was so fresh, exciting, devastating and thrilling. Cannot wait for the next book.
This is the 4th book in the series, to me the series needs to be read in order, the characters are on a journey and it progresses with each book.
I'm going to put what was to me a huge spoiler at the end of my review, I don't want to explain here but be warned because you may not see it as I did.
The story is apocalyptic zombie but it also is about survival without technology or things we take for granted today. So I feel the author always does alot of research into making use of certain things for food or medicine etc.
The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger with events leading to new challenges in the next book. It's unclear who has survived, the group gets split up so end up in various places.
I felt the author hinted there would be changes in the book by just little things that were said about supplies and the future of staying where they are.
There are also some deaths, no-one is safe. # # # # # #
Spoiler.
To me the dedication to the book is a huge spoiler, if you don't like spoilers skip it.
For Danielle My lovely friend, wildland firefighter consultant, and tireless mother of a gazillion children.
I waited all book for a fire. It spoilt the plot for me putting this dedication at the start as it was going to feature in the plot I really felt it should have gone at the end.
It spoilt my read because they are talking about planting and keeping things until winter and I'm thinking we've had heavy foreshadowing about bug out bags, escape routes, a horde and fast spreading fires so with the foreword i just felt eat the food because you won't have time to take it with you and what's the point of how good the food is when they are obviously going to have to flee because of the Fire or its going to get wrecked if they managed to survive and stay.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First, you have to know that it isn’t a fast-paced plot this time around. About 85% of it can’t even be considered exciting. Doesn’t matter in the least. It was captivating and perfectly written, as always. This installment isn’t going to be for everyone because it’s primarily about loving, healing, and living, not just surviving.
It’s an unusually long period of calm before the storm. We get to see the characters we love happy and healthier—or just plain healthy—physically and mentally. For once, they’re not nearly constantly fighting for their lives or killing dozens of zombies (and animals). They’re enjoying life and are, for the most part, less afraid. It’s a nice reprieve for SLF readers who’ve learned to expect the worst to happen at any moment.
We receive a lot of insight into their day-to-day lives, the affection they have for each other, the exceptional camaraderie, and the effective way they work together. I ended up liking the MCs and secondary characters even more by the end because I felt I understood them better.
A storm’s a-brewing now. We’re gonna get hit hard this next round, and it’s gonna hurt. I hate losing characters I fall in love with, but it’s the price to pay when you’re a devoted SLF reader.
I loved the first two series in this universe - The City series maybe one of my favourite series ever.
This review is more of the series as a whole, rather than just this book.
Cascadia feels like it was written by a different author and I had to really work to get through this series. I was excited to have protagonists out of their twenties, but they’re so bland. For a zombie apocalypse… nothing really seems to happen. The side characters are more interesting than the MCs, and no one really seems to develop as the books progress.
Craig is the most interesting of the four protagonists - especially in the first book - but by this point, it just feels stagnant.
Again, I can’t emphasise how much I loved the first two series, this one just feels like a disappointment for me.
There are very few books that I will drop everything to read. This is one of those books. I downloaded this book as soon as it became available and spent as much time reading it as possible. I seem to be reading slower these days so I downloaded the audiobook when it was released a week later even though I had reached the 80% mark in the book simply because I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. I was a fantastic reading experience from beginning to end.
The characters in this series come alive on the page. I think that Sarah Lyons Fleming does an amazing job of creating characters that you can’t help but love, making it very easy to become invested in the story’s outcome. This series is told from 4 unique points of view. Rose loves to take care of everyone, especially her father and 2 young adult children. She tends to worry simply because she cares so much. Tom is Rose’s boyfriend and Clara’s father. He is incredibly competent and tends to be a steady presence in the story. Clara is Tom’s daughter and the girlfriend of Rose’s oldest child. We get to see a bit more about how the young adults in the story deal with a world turned upside down. Craig is Rose’s childhood friend. He has stepped up as a leader in the group and is someone that Rose and everyone else can count on. These four characters tell the story but it is easy to fall in love with the whole group and I worried about them with each challenge they faced.
The group seems to be in a bit of a better start than they were in the past. They have a solid group working together, plenty of supplies, and a location that meets their needs. Unfortunately, this is a world full of danger. They must constantly work to keep their food supply up and stay on guard against the zombies that now roam the world. On top of that, they know that the threat of wildfire is a real one. And this is a world without a team of firefighters ready to act. This story took my heart and broke it at times. I have to wonder just how much these characters can face.
I listened to a portion of this book and thought the narrators did a great job with the story. Each point of view was voiced by a different narrator which made it very easy for the listener to know when the perspective changed. I thought that their voices were very pleasant and complimented each other’s nicely. They added just the right amount of emotion to their reading which added to my enjoyment of the story. I plan to tackle the full audiobook when I pick this book up again for an eventual re-read.
I would highly recommend this series to others. This is the fourth book in a series that really should be read in order so I wouldn’t start with this book. The first book World Departed would be a much better place to start. I can’t wait to read the next (and possibly final) book in this much-loved series.
I am absolutely gutted, literally sobbed my eyes out for a full 30 min...iykyk. how am I suppose to wait!! What will I do with my life!! Honestly I could not pick between the three series which i like better at this point. They all have carved a huge piece of my heart out. Sarah lyons flemings is my fav new to me author of 2025 without a doubt!
Ugh why do I have to wait for another one of these? This author can do no wrong, I love this series so much and this book was amazing. It made me smile and also devastated me.
I have adored this series from the start, but this book draaaaagged for me. It was a one or two star read until the last 20 percent when it finally got interesting. Will I read the next book? Yes. Will I eagerly await it as much as I did this one? No.
Could have condensed 30% of the book into one chapter of who finally sleeps with who. And why introduce new characters at this point. I could say more but it would be a spoiler for anyone who hasn't read it yet. Definitely not my favorite
So.... is there going to be another one then? I hope?
I love SLF and love that she's writing about my home state of Oregon. As always her character building is STRONG- but this series is not my favorite of all of hers. Lots of homesteading but not as much zombies :-( Nevertheless excited for the continuation of the series and hope that there's even more crossover between books in the future!
Another thoroughly enjoyable catch-up with Rose and her friends and family in the Zombie Apocalypse. Started slowly but built up to a dramatic conclusion and left us with another exciting cliff-hanger. In this chapter of the story, we had lots more 'tips for preppers', romance, humour, scary zombie encounters, wildfires and tragedy. I'm hooked on these books and cant wait for the next one!
I guess that the title of the book is a clue - especially the word 'Undone'. But I was not prepared for the volume of tears - and I have shed many a tear reading books across the combined book series!
But we all knew it was coming after book 3, didn't we...
This was not my favorite...incredibly repetitive conversation and thoughts...especially with Rose. I like her OK in the earlier books, but my gawd.Yes, we get it...she's quirky and has curly hair that is constantly "spilling." Halfway in, I was hoping that she would get eaten by a zombie. If I had to hear "daddy" or "baby doll" one more time....just ick. You could seriously start a drinking game with that BS. The author obviously watches sex and the city with that Carrie/ Samantha scene between Mitch and Rose and the menstrual cup. I cringed through a lot of the book and fast forwarded through most of Roses narration. I actually don't mind the homesteading/foraging parts. I love Craig and Mitch. I could do without the sappy drama. This book had far too much of that. She did kill off quite a few of the characters... But jeez, it's a zombie apocalypse series...what do you expect? And do editors still exist?
Summary of characters and where book left off below (so i remember for book 5) scroll down.
Rosie is 42. Main character. Loves kids Jessie and Holly to distraction. Husband Ethan doing drugs, he eventually dies saving family. Rosie gets together with Tom, Holly's best frctersiend Clara's dad. Jessie and clara get together. Holly is with nora, who has lung damage from smoke in book 4.

Now unsure where they will go. Tony and lana , craig's friends led the zombies away so others could grt on boat..not sure if dead.
Sarah Lyons Fleming has outdone herself with this one. Although The City Series has been my firm favourite to date (earning itself an annual reread of its trilogy of 5 star reads) World Undone is the type of book which unfurls little by little and then all at once. Without wanting to ruin any of the plot (spoilers!) we rejoin well rounded utter believable characters one could almost count as friends at what becomes known as Cascadia safe zone. For a good half of the novel we see the typical character driven world building we've come to love from SLF - lives happen, people are safe and life is good. I'll not ruin the rest but wow does it become a whole different beast. Just epic. Exciting. Enthralling and utterly un-put-down-able! Rarely is there an author I'll drop everything for but for Sarah Lyons Fleming anything. Utterly compelling and just gutted I have to wait for the next installment. 5 stars. All the way.
I do not even know how to begin to express how great this book is.. I am not one who gets overly emotional over Books. I read way too much and across a wide array of genres. I don’t have any triggers and generally even the most shocking sad, gory, unexpected twisty heart wrenching scenes can move me, but I don’t get overly emotional. Good or bad. So when I say that there were two scenes in this book towards the end, the last couple of chapters where I literally absolutely literally found myself tearing up and bawling . I have become so emotionally invested in all of these people in this book that when beloved characters are lost, and beloved characters are found. I was just deep in the emotional fictional abyss. I absolutely adore the way Sarah, Lyons Fleming writes. I have adored and devoured every series in this zombie world that she has created. But this book absolutely by far my favorite. I listen to it on audio, and the last few hours I was on the edge of my seat. The cast of narrators was and is absolutely perfect, chefs kiss . I cannot recommend this series enough. I have recommended it to many people even those who do not care for zombies or post apocalyptic because her writing is just that good.. Her storytelling transcends zombies , and you will find yourself enjoying the ride. Now I am just absolutely struck with sadness because it’s probably gonna be another year before the next book comes out .
You know what’s the worst about a good series? The end, or the waiting for the next book. I’ve been waiting for the “final” book to drop this month before I started the series. Unbeknownst to me, it’s not the last book. Which is not a bad thing, but the WAITING…. UGHHHH. Being a fan of all apocalyptic stories, whether it be EMP, nuclear, or zombie, zombie being the favorite. I loved this series, especially the sarcastic humor, the relationships, the struggles. More reminders that I’m not a survivor and would die quickly in this situation mostly by choice. 🤣😩🤣😩
I did the audio versions of the book because I have lots to do and I didn’t want to stop listening!! If you grew up in the 80s, the voice that narrated Craig, sounded just like Casey Kasem! To me anyways 🥰
Is this a perfect story? No, but that’s not what I look for in a good book. It evoked many tears, edge of your seat and laugh out loud moments, and if a book can do that, it’s a winner!! Now off to commiserate with fellow readers on the spoiler Facebook page!! 🧟♀️ 🖤
3.5* The fourth in the Cascadia series and the ?th in Sarah Lyons Fleming's zom-poc creation, World Undone returns with characters I've grown to care about and the tales of their survival in a day-to-day reality that more closely resembles a daytime drama than The Walking Dead. (Wow ... sentence structure, much?) That's not necessarily a bad thing - I *like* Rose and Tom and Mitch, and Craig, et. al., and I like reading about them. But to me, this is no longer a fresh, exciting story; it felt like the novel was nothing but filler with the story's action tacked on to the last forty pages almost as a coincidence. The previous two books in the series have been hit-or-miss for me and this is more of the same. I'll probably continue the series since it's available on KU but at this point, even appreciating the author's hard work, I wouldn't pay for the rest of the novels.
I love this series and all series written by Sarah Lyons Fleming. I’m just confused. I would have given it 5 stars but I was under the assumption this was the last book in the series and yet it doesn’t feel like it. The ending was more cliffhanger than finale and I was disappointed by that.
I love the writing and the characters and truly feel like I know them all and am rooting for everyone. I absolutely loved this series and all the different point of views it provided. It was less about just Rose like the previous series with Cassie and Sylvie.
Please tell me there is one more after this? Please? I wait for the next book in the series and I don’t feel like I know who is alive or dead and where they are going.
This was such a disappointing installment. This will be the end of the road for me on this one. Earlier I thought I’d read another installment if it were free but nah!
I’m not sure how this made it into the zombie-poc category. Zombies are a background feature at best. I would more quickly put this into a boring romance or self help for apocalypse planning.
Very little action, unnecessary ad nauseum descriptions of farming, plants and building structures. Very little character development for existing and new characters. Also, I’m not 100% sure how the disappearing safe centers even made it into this book description. It was a tertiary line at best in this book.
This will definitely be in my bottom three for the year and it’s only January.
I hate that I have to wait for book 5! I thought the majority of the book was quite slow-paced but I enjoyed the interactions and relationships between everyone regardless. The last quarter of the book though? Geez, I was reading with my shoulders all tensed up and my teeth clenched.
Whew. Another banger. This author draws you into a place of calm and euphoria learning about survival in the apocalypse with hunting, foraging and gardening etc. and also makes you fall in love with the various characters and their romantic shenanigans then hits you on the head with a sledgehammer at the end. Why do I keep reading. I’m a glutton for punishment and really love well written apocalypse stories with fascinating ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances overcoming the odds. Can’t wait for the next book in this series. I’ve loved all her series in this world.
Unbelievably good and full of scenes that hit like a punch to the gut.
Sarah Lyons Fleming has become my favorite author. I love her characters, their emotions, and all the things they go through. This book was no exception. The amount of information hidden within the narrative is amazing, too.
All that said, prepare yourself. (Pun intended.) This book starts off with a heavy focus on romance, but the wild fire is every bit as devastating as you'd think. No punches pulled. I like my books realistic rather than packed with plot armor, so to me, that's a good thing.
I want to say something about some of the characters that die, but I can't spoil it. Just know that it hurts.
I blazed right through this book and I felt the heat chasing me at each page turn (puns intended). Sarah brings it all to the game again, all the feels!
And we all know how ruthless Sarah can be with her characters and readers, and it has been mounting steadily in this series, so prepare the tissues, your heart will be broken, made up, broken again... You will swear to the high heavens, question why she is putting you through all this - and in the end, you will be begging her for the next book.
Yowza, I cried in public-on a plane! Why didn’t anyone warn me? Guess I should have known…
Prepare to learn a lot-if you have prepped or homesteading tendencies you will learn so much! I really love a book that teaches me things as part of the story.
The characters are growing and I love seeing those changes. Loving relationships are shown beautifully and new romances are fun. Of course tragedy strikes. And strikes again. Buckle up-it’s quite a ride. You may need some boob tissues.
Happily there’s another book in the series. No date yet, but it’s in the works.
