So, apparently now I'm into reverse harem stories. Oops, how did that happen? ;) This is only the second series I've started featuring that setup, but it's definitely my least favorite so far. When I'm reading a book about dragons, I expect there to be some Ye Olde language, some tie to a fantasy world. But the dialogue in this story was very much like you or I would speak today, and it only served to pull me out of the story more times than I can count. Also -- and I know I'm saying this as a newbie to this, erm, genre -- but I think I already prefer it when the harem members are already aware of each other and don't come off as stiff, unfeeling asses like those in this story because they can't get along. It also didn't help that there was such a lack of chemistry between the heroine and her would-be mates. At this point, I'm not sure if I'll continue the series.

Another amazing book from Elizabeth Briggs! Everything I’ve read of hers has been awesome and I’m so happy she decided to get into the reverse harem Fantasy genre! I adored getting to know Kira and her 4 mates and can’t wait for the second installment in this series!!!

2.5 stars for tedious writing, so much Telling! Except for the single love scene, this book might suit very young readers. We are Told how the h meets the Hs, they-go-on-an-adventure where a 'thing' happens in each chapter. No character development, these characters are outlines. Boring.

After reading the prequel novella I was really excited to jump into STROKE THE FLAME and I loved this one! After a very blah reading day where I couldn't get into any books, I dived right into the HER ELEMENTAL DRAGONS series and I'm so invested in finding out what happens next for Kira and her men.
I loved the world-building in this and I found the history of the Gods and the Dragons so interesting. It's all well developed while also being easy to understand and follow. I'm very curious to see how Kira's powers develop as she bonds with each man and gains their elemental power.
STROKE THE FLAME is told primarily from Kira's POV but it also includes chapters from each of the men and this really helped to get to know everyone. I enjoyed Kira as our heroine; she's brave, smart, and courageous. She's been given the monumental task of defeating the current corrupt Black Dragon and becoming the new representative of the Gods. And on top of all that she's expected to bond with four strangers who have been chosen as her mates: Jasin the cocky soldier, Auric the scholarly Prince, Slade the quiet blacksmith, and Reven the mysterious assassin.
To gain all their powers and become the Dragons, the group must travel to each of the Gods' temples and once there, Kira will have to bond with the mate who represents that element. STROKE THE FLAME is focused on the Fire God and his chosen mate, Jasin, a soldier in the Onyx Army. Jasin is a charming ladies' man whose confidence is never lacking, but he's also become disillusioned by the Army's mission. Though the focus is on Jasin, there's still a lot of development between Kira and the other men, especially Auric whose book is next.
While each of the men felt compelled to find Kira and their attraction to her is pretty instantaneous they can still walk away. I will say that each of the men becomes devoted to Kira and the task the Gods have given them very quickly and they're all falling for Kira fast but this personally doesn't bother me as a reader. And I did appreciate that even though feelings are coming in fast, the characters are still grappling with their changing lives, jealousy over sharing Kira, and distrust over each man's past and intentions. The heat is a bit lower and Kira only has sex with Jasin but I can tell that the heat will grow over the series as she builds her connection with each of the guys.

The relationships aren’t my favorite but are keeping my interest for now.

Kira has been on the run since her parents were killed in her teens. On her twentieth birthday, she is struck by lightning and begins to dream about four men. About a month later, these guys show up to find her and claim that the Gods have imbued them with powers and a quest to be the next dragons in the realm and overthrow the current cruel dragon regime. Of course, in order to claim this new destiny, they have to travel to a bunch of temples and get busy with Kira.
I didn't like this one much at all. As someone who likes RH and likes fantasy, I was intrigued by the premise but ended up being disappointed with the execution. I constantly felt like I was being "told" things about the characters and plot, instead of being "shown". Because of that, the characters never developed fully and I was forced to rely too much on RH tropes to fill in the blanks. I admit that I have rated other books with similar problems higher in the past due to the steaminess of the intimate scenes when they finally come about. I can forgive a lot if the smut is good. This book was a disappointment there as well. I will not be continuing the series.

Book one in the brand new Her Elemental Dragons series and what incredible start it is too. I am totally hooked now and have been from the very first page where we are drawn into an incredible fantasy world that I wished I lived in. We get to meet Kira a seemingly normal girl until her twentieth birthday when everything changes. Four men are drawn to her whether they want to be or not and together they discover a destiny that none of them saw coming. I cannot get over the world building in the this book and the characters just made it even better. If you enjoy fantasy reverse harem novels and dragons then you really have to go read this. I highly doubt you will regret it. I loved every single minute of it so I give it 5/5 stars.

I'm not mad at this book. I knew exactly what I was getting into.
That being said, maybe I should avoid books like this. It's not that I hate them, it's just that I want emotional depth and slow burn romance (pun obviously intended) and that's not what you're gonna get with this kind of book.
So yeah. If you want a light, fun reverse harem book with Avatar the Last Airbender set dressing that hits every expected beat word for word, read this.
That being said, maybe I should avoid books like this. It's not that I hate them, it's just that I want emotional depth and slow burn romance (pun obviously intended) and that's not what you're gonna get with this kind of book.

This was an OK read and what I think was a good start to a series. I really like the concept and I think the author did a good job of introducing it and setting the series up for some explosive moments. On Kira's 20th Birthday she meets a strange woman in the woods and is struck by lightening. After the woman disappears Kira thinks nothing of it until her nightly dreams start showcasing four impossibly beautiful men who thirty days later each show up looking for her. Destined to be the new Black Dragon AKA ruler of the realm, Kira and her men have a journey ahead of them if they are to all connect, share powers and overthrow the current rulers. The book is set up in such a way that I think she will bond with each man per book and thus gain their powers for herself becoming the most powerful female dragon in existence, if she can take down the current monarch that is. Each of her guys represents an element of their birth, Earth, Air, Fire & Water and thus take on that power gifted to them by the Gods. After bonding with Kira, each man will also be able to take on dragon form which is something hopefully they can accustom to quickly so they can defend themselves against the current BEYOND evil rulers. I will say things do move at light speed and the heroine was a bit annoying at times. She's resistant and against the idea of her upcoming quest and the men and the next second she rolls over like it's completely normal and natural. Curious to see where the series goes. I'm not a huge fan of all the guys but at the same time I like that they are all so individual and not obsessed/immediately devoted to her.

READ THIS!!!
If you have ever read a reverse harem and was disappointed with a badly written storyline like me, then I'm talking to you! GET THIS BOOK! Seriously you won't be sorry.
I've read a LOT of paranormal/fantasy romance in all my years. I'm going to tell you now if you want an action packed, believable storyline that's got steamy romance instead of some bdsm or bad porn bedroom scenes.....THIS is your book.
The writng is great. Keeps you interested with every page. It switches points of view with every character per chapter. This was excellent. I got to see and feel what was going on inside everyone's head and heart. No one was lust at fist site. (I hate that). Even though the gods threw them together, they knew what they were supposed to do, but a person's duty and their feelings don't always mesh. And it's not an easy quest to begin with.
I chose this book after reading a few reviews because I wanted a true novel with action, paranormal (hello, dragons & magic) and a steamy reward somewhere in there that was NOT a bad porn flick. Authors today forget the romance in Romance novels. Elizabeth Briggs thank you for writing such a wonderful book.
I HIGHLY Recommend this book.

What in the wattpad is this? THE WRITING WE GOTTA TALK ABOUT THE WRITING 😭😭
The plot is interesting enough but the way it was executed.. Instead of being shown what's happening it just felt like some kid is giving me a story time. Yes, back to the writing, it was soo monotonous. She keeps on repeating how she's gonna save the world and all or how handsome his mates are and at the same time fantasizing about fucking them.
Fire boy tries so hard to be funny while air boy keeps on forcing himself to be the mysterious one "i CaNt LeT tHeM kNoW aBoUt mY iDenTiTy" BITCH WORRY ABOUT UR PERSONALITY, anyway assasin boy is not that bad tho... WRONG❌ DARCY'S LEFT NIPPLE HAS MORE PERSONA THAN THIS CUCUMBER, and yes I totally forgot about their name how could i not?
If the all the boys are horrible surely the girl is not?
Lol you wish The mc is NOT likeable at all and the part where all the boys appeared right after the other?? AND THE WAY SHE WAS STRUCK BY A FUCKING LIGHTNING????

This book was unputdownable (yes, I know that's not a word). I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Stroke The Flame" for many reasons ~these aren't necessarily in a specific order~:
1. Characters are believable, they have scars and pasts, parts of which they are not willing to share at the moment but maybe eventually with trust.
2. Oh my gosh, trust was plentiful in this book and I wish other authors would take note; meeting strangers, even smoking-hot ones, doesn't make you automatically want to tell them your secrets. THANK YOU FOR THE GRADUAL TRUST BUILDING (and the fact that the heroine was able to slowly work through her issues).
3. Each character has their unique way of talking/thinking and it makes it easier to understand and imagine them.
4. The changing POV was actually NOT vertigo-inducing; everything was clear and it warmed my heart to hear some of the story from the guys' point of view! (point above was crucial to this).
5. Everyone has their separate way of reasoning out why they found themselves in this situation and I think it's refreshing to see that; people react to their life circumstances in different ways and I'm glad the author emphasized that.
6. No insta-love. There is attraction ~duh~ and connection and some steam, but the characters question, doubt, and develop their feelings with time and with what happens. The pace of it was perfect.
7. The writing is absolutely up my alley; world-building is in depth but not overwhelming, there is variety in depth of characters which makes it easier to remember and imagine, and the style itself is great for this type of novel; neither simplistic nor overly complex.

I downloaded this book via Kindle Unlimited.
Despite knowing I'm not a big fan of RH books, I dived into this one expecting it to hold more promise as it is heavily fantasy based. At the beginning, the story held mystery and potential. It starts with Kira being struck by lightning while collecting food for her best friends Inn and to protect her friend from her abusive father. But then she is struck by lightning. And then the dreams of four mysterious sexy strangers start. But what she doesn't expect is that the strangers are real and each is next in line to replace the elemental dragons as the rulers of their realms.
I love fantasy books but this one fell flat. While the world was interesting, I don't feel it was well explained nor well defined enough. I had questions about what was happening in the world, politically. Why was there a resistance? Why was there so much fighting and murder? I found myself confused and lost in places because of this lack of definition. The characters from this RH could have literally been copy and pasted from any other as I found the tropes were the same. The quiet sensitive one. The disinterested one. The loud overconfident one. The "just your typical guy" one. It's all the same. Kira also was incredibly inconsistent and a little annoying.

Hmm, this was not what I was hoping it to be. The characters flip-flopped and the plot didn’t live up to expectation. Would not read again and have no plans to continue the series.

September 10, 2021This entire series for me was a 3 out 5 stars. It was different than the regular spicy books I normally read. It was still an entertaining story--don’t get me wrong--however, it was very different and I’ll explain what I mean in a minute.
In this series, we follow the story of Kira, Jasin, Auric, Slade, and Reven--there are officially four books in the series with other annexations to it. Each book follows her journey as she travels across each land Fire, Air, Earth, and Water to mate with her chosen ones. Yep, you heard that right. Kira was chosen by the spirit goddess to become the next batch of dragons to protect their land. Right now, the dragons in power have become corrupt and the gods want the five of them to put a stop to their reign. But for them to become dragons, Kira has to mate with each of her men in the land of the god that blessed them. Together, they would form a bond stronger than anything in the world and defeat the dragons’ that have been reigning for the last few centuries.
With all that being said, this is a reverse harem book, and while I was expecting the spice, I wasn’t expecting them to be as intriguing. The world-building and the actual plotline weren’t too bad. When you read a spicy fantasy book, usually one aspect of the book overpowers the other--it’s either spice of fantasy--but I’m glad to say that this was a pleasant mix of both. She didn’t give us too much of either or, I would say it’s a healthy balance. Although, if I had to choose which aspect of those two there are more in the book, I would say this book is more fantasy than spice. It took until book two for us to see her with more than one partner at a time.
Moreover, these characters were deep and personal despite this series being super short. I finished three of these books the same day--that’s how short they were. Yet, the author gave us enough time to meet each character and get to know them on more than a surface-level treatment. The spice was there, I would say 3 out 5 in the spiciness department. When I read a RH, especially one with four men, I’m expecting certain scenes to happen. I don’t care much for the one-on-one contact because that’s what regular romance books are for. I want all of the orifices of our female lead to be filled. Not one empty and I want her hands busy as well, but unfortunately, I didn’t get that here. Don’t get me wrong, there are scenes where the five of them are together, just not the way I was expecting them to be. It also took until the last book in the series for us to see that kind of relationship between all of them, just FYI.
I recommend you read this book if you like Sarah J. Maas, Claire LeGrand. Jennifer Armentrout, Kerri Maniscalco, K. A. Knight, etc. 18+ only. I don’t think that there are many triggers here but check just in case. Also no, there isn’t dragon play in this series just in case you were wondering. I know I was wondering when I started reading this book too. LOL. And as always, thank you for reading my post, I truly appreciate it.

Not my fav style of writing
Personally for me this book took a lot to get into and it just didn’t have enough to maintain my interest. A lot of description, but not really much depth to getting to know the men. Toward the end of the book some of them are already feeling love towards her but we have had no tension, no relationship building nothing. We barely know these men and are thrust into a relationship with them. Everyone is keeping secrets.
Then they need to travel the realms, which is fine, except it takes the entire book to just get to the fire realm. Along the way they have some Dragon spottings but nothing major. No big event that was a climax. It wasn’t until about 94% of the book where things finally got interesting. But not enough for me to continue.
I need some humor, some warmth, in my readings and this didn’t have it. It was written in a past tense present tense thing but it was an active thing happening on the page. It isn’t wrong per se but it feels wrong reading it for me. When I read it aloud it does sound fine so perhaps it’s the way my brain translates it but for this reason I had difficulty with the book. In addition there is very little of Kira that really gives us an inner monologue aside from her fear of fire, her feelings for the men and some various other things. I just haven’t seen anything that makes her great.

This world is also not well explained. Nor what magic is actually available. Does everyone have magic? Elementals? Are they people? Are there other Dragons or just the ruling people and now Kira and her mates? Things were not well explained for me.

It reads like a typical fairy tale with standard tropes to fill in the details. In a world where a Black Dragon and her four elemental dragons have ruled by fear and death, a girl named Kira is confronted by 4 men who tell her they were sent by the Gods of each element to bond and protect her and create a new ruling quintet to balance the realms. Each has been given some rudiments of their power and must go to the source of their power, bond with Kira and become the dragon to replace their predecessor. Their journey is fraught by enemies and danger. There are 5 POV changing with the chapters, often difficult to get into character before it shifts again. Little character depth as a result of this. May not look for future volumes.

I’m sorry but I’m not going to give away any spoilers of any kind because I’m not the type that does that. So all I’m going to say about this book is that it’s a very good, it kept me interested from the beginning right up until the very end. First time reading anything by Elizabeth Briggs and I got to say she’s good at her story weaving so good I’ll be checking out more of her work in the future.
So yes I do recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a good story to climb into and get lost within its pages.

Well this hasn't started off so great. The characters are weak and have no real personality just yet. Everything seems instant oh I have powers lets go off with strangers and change my life. Plus kira is annoying me. I do like the dragons and how they are supposed to be the next dragons. It'll be interesting to see how they get there in the end. I want to see more of the resistance. I'm glad they saved those people. It seems like there are lots of secrets to come out too.

I initially didn’t think I would enjoy this book, believing it was going to be a cheap read. However, this book was actually really good!
Loved the plot and the characters, never read a dragon book before and, must admit, probs a new fav theme!!! The character development was done pretty well, love how you get a separate book for each mate.
Hella excited to read the next one…to the Air Kingdom!!!

Needed more depth
First off, I absolutely loved the plot and the struggles the characters are going through. I just feel like it lacked depth of descriptive details in a lot of places that would have done wonders for the story. It definitely got better in the middle and towards the end and I’m really looking forward to continuing the series , I truly am intrigued to see how it plays out.

Good steamy parts that I wish were longer. One time I was laughing so hard I was almost in tears. I hope insecurities subside in the next book, especially Kira’s because it can get annoying. BUT all in all a fun & easy read.

Its an okay read. Characters have their own ditinctive personality and the story flows easily. The relationships feel artificial as they go from wary to heavily in love in the matter of weeks. With the limited conversations, i feel theres hardly any opportunity fot them to get to know eachother...

For hundreds of years, Kira's world has been ruled by the Black Dragon and her four mates, who each represent one of the elements (fire, air, earth, water). But now the Old Gods are angry, and have chosen new dragons -- and Kira is destined to be the new Black Dragon and take four elemental dragon mates.
This book has some good world building, even if the characters' backstories are a little light at this point. They're interesting, and they've got a compelling quest, which is good. As for sex and romance, despite this book's hero dragon (Jasin) being a ladies' man, there's not much in the way of heat. So, while this book and this series have a lot of potential, quite a bit of it is being wasted. And I hate to say that, because I loved the author's Seraphim Academy series.
