I’m sorry the writing in this one is just too cringey I can’t. And “I unfurled my long forked tongue and let it drape down my neck” gives more American Horror Story vibes than anything attractive 😭
This was a super sweet and dark short story. The girl was scared and alone but brave enough to risk her life for love. The siren was fierce and had some issues with her self image, like feeling she wasn’t the best at anything like her sisters. They offered each other the unconditional love and acceptance one should always get from a partner.
Spice: 2/5

Let me start off by saying that I knew this was a short read, but I did not expect the plot to move as fast as it did. The instant love kind of threw me off and I typically don't mind it, but it didn't feel like there was a lot of substance to their romance or the plot itself. I did enjoy a couple of parts though! I think the writing is there, but I feel like the story could've been fleshed out better or in a different way to accommodate the fast pace.
A super quick, really sweet, and rather spicy sapphic romance between a sailor and a siren? Yeah, okay, I'm here for it. This is something I didn't know I needed, but I got it, and I'm glad I have it. There isn't much more to say about it. It's not an overly complicated story. The characters are simple yet interesting. It is rather inst-lovey, but it didn't really bother me being that it's a super short novella. All in all, it was a fun time.
Lectura conjunta. ¿Una sirena lesbiana? No me sorprende pero tampoco me lo esperaba AJAJA. Hermana, qué risa. Honestamente no sé cómo terminé en este libro, pero me sacó del bloqueo lector.
This was a super quick, sapphic novella between a siren and a sailor. Human runs to the sea and becomes a cook on a ship after getting her heart broken by another woman. But little by little her crew disappears. The fantastical elements of the sea and the pirates were so interesting. I found it really interesting that we never actually know their names. This was purely just vibes; there isn’t much more to say other than read it if you’re looking for a quick read.
Super cute & wholesome loved the concept not a huge fan of insta love the whole kraken gangb*ng*ng the sisters gave me the ickkkkk but was giggling and kicking my feet at my sailor girl and her siren😍😍

This one was such a fun read! The plot was so refreshing and kept me interested till the very end. It was short and sweet but the vibes were everything. Mermaids, sirens, pirates and more. It was great! Check it out on KU if you're looking for a beautiful novella.
I am not sure what i just read, but I wouldn’t say I loved it. It was just bizarre, there’s novellas and then there’s whatever this was. It would have been better with more detail id say. It’s like suddenly there’s a girl on a boat then they’re in love the end. I really wanted more smex to be honest, i wanted to see more of the sirens unhinged side. Instead i kinda just got instalove with a bit of fin humping.
Welp that was definitely something. I mean it was a good idea for a story and I love the concept but it just felt so rushed and too fast paced for me.
There was no romance, no building a relationship, no getting to know one another at all lmao. It was just insta love in the most instant way possible and I was not a fan of that.
The writing was actually pretty good for the most part. Although, there were some questionable words being used that I did not appreciate, like “pierce” in spice scenes 😖 No thanks!
I know I went into this book completely blind but I lowkey expected a cute mermaid/ siren and pirate story and that was definitely not the case 💀 The sirens are described as the most beautiful creatures in the sea yet they got razor sharp teeth, long sharp claws, and gills on their neck. I just could not imagine them very beautiful I guess. If anything they were quite scary lookin to me lmao. I also was not expecting the octopussy smut lmaoo. I mean I don’t wanna yuck nobody’s yum but it was a first for me is all I’ll say. And we never got to know the MCs names. I’m not mad at it but It would have been nice to know.
Overall it was fine. It was a super quick and easy read and I was interested throughout. I know it’s a novella but I still think the pacing could have been executed a lot better. Maybe this would have been better as a novel so there could be more substance to the relationships and plot. This was also my first time reading anything from this author and I think I would like to try reading something else by her that is a bit more fleshed out than this. I have Lady Venom on my tbr and have heard good things so maybe I’ll check that out next!
Kat Blackthorne Sirens of the Sugar Seas: a sapphic siren and human romance New Release
This is a captivating and concise novella about the unexpected connection between an endearing sailor girl and a mesmerizing siren. Despite their initial reservations, fate brought them together at a time when they least expected it. The sailor girl, who had been heartbroken after the woman she thought she loved chose someone else, soon discovered a love that would never let go. The author, Kat Blackthorne, masterfully weaves a fantastical tale filled with pirates, mermaids, and the enchanting allure of the sea. The seamless blend of these elements adds a delightful sweetness to the story, and the thrilling adventure will keep you engrossed. Additionally, the journey of one of the other sisters finding her soulmate adds another layer of charm to this heartwarming narrative. I assure you that this sweet story will bring you immense joy. It is conveniently available on Kindle Unlimited, and I highly recommend exploring the author's other works as well.
When I saw Kat Blackthorne surprise released a sapphic book and listed men as a CW…I was sold… I mean I was really sold at the first part, but the men part made me cackle. I read Lady Venom Takes a Mistress and loved it, so I expected nothing less from this one because SIRENS.
Sirens of the Sugar Seas follows the story of two women, one a sailor and one a siren, who happen to find each other. The siren is tasked with offing the last remaining survivor on the ship, but when she takes one look at her, she’s immediately enthralled. Against her nature, she decides this is the human she wants to keep.
This novella is very fast paced, so if you don’t enjoy instalust, this may not be for you. I personally never mind it in a novella, I don’t make the rules. There are definitely spicy bits, mixed with some sea magic, making this a quick read, but also a great one.
If you have been looking for a quick sapphic read with pirates, sirens, and other sea-faring shenanigans, look no further.
This was a fun quick easy read! I loved the premise and the overall story of this, but it did feel very rushed. I know it's a novella and that often happens in a novella, but this felt like too much plot for such a short novella.
I also wish we would have gotten a little bit more romance. This is very insta love and they see each other and are in love and the plot is happening around that. There isn't any building of the romance or their relationship.
This is also very low spice. There is so much plot happening that there wasn't any time for spice. There is one very short vague scene. I don't need spice to enjoy a book, but having read other books by this author I thought there would be at least a little bit of spice. I would classify this book more as a sweet romance rather than a spicy one.
I did enjoy the plot and the siren falling in love with the only woman on the ship, but it was very quick and left me wanting more out of the romance aspect of this.
***Please note that this review is mainly for my benefit as it is more of a summary of the book and may contain spoilers.***
This is a 90 page novella. The girl is heartbroken after her friend and lover decided to marry a man. She leaves her inn and gets a job on a boat. Shortly after departure, men on the crew start disappearing. The crew is blaming the girl by saying she is bringing the crew and ship bad luck. After hearing singing, all of the men jump off the ship. The girl is left all alone. She hears the singing, and sees a beautiful woman (a siren) in the ocean. The girl jumps off the ship to be with her. They live happily ever after.

As the little girl who dreamed of growing a fin instead of having legs, this short novella warmed my heart and was just so much fun! 🥹
This is a story of a human who has her heart broken back home, and decides to join a ship’s crew to escape it all.
Little does she know, this journey will take her through the Sugar Seas, rumoured to be plagued by numerous sea monsters - including sirens, who lure men through song and unquestionable beauty, to their imminent demise.
This is where ‘The Girl’ encounters ‘The Siren’ and they quickly form a bond. The siren claims the human as her mate and will protect her at all costs. 💖
This book has insta-love, mild spice, it was whimsical and honestly I want more! We need more siren & mermaid romances! 🧜♀️
A girl with a broken heart becomes a cook on a ship to run away from her lost love. Little by little, the crew disappear, lured by the songs of the sirens that lurk nearby. One of them goes back to the ship expecting to find the last man on board, only to find the girl (we never find out her name) and there is an immediate attraction. The siren's sisters, however, might not see the girl as a suitable mate, and then there is the problem of the girl being human and unable to live underwater. There are only 74 pages but they are full of sunshine and waves, and a love that conquers all - the main characters are wonderful and the side characters also well rounded. I loved this little sapphic story!
“Love was love, and love would always hold the power to transform what was into what could be. A human loved a siren, and the ocean gave her fins.”
This was just a perfect bite of sapphic sea monster romance that you can really sink your teeth into. There’s heartache, there’s suspense, and at the heart of this novella—there’s love.
And tentacles. And fin play. And a very dextrose long forked tongue.
But most of all love. Love between two souls that are destined to never cross paths, but when they do they change the laws of nature.
‘Sirens of the Sugar Seas’ was a simply BEAUTIFUL tale of love, passion and rebirth and I simply adored every single moment. Its story wove its own siren song within my heart. 5/5 stars!!!
She walked on the ship to get as far away from someone she loved as she could get, only to find someone who would then turn her wourld upside down. Then, for her to want to drown in the very Sea to stay in the waters with her love. I love their stories, I love how "the girl " was able to be turned into a mermaid to be with her siren mate. And I definitely love the Easter eggs thrown in there to The Halloween Boys and The Story Keeper Pirates. I need to know more about them. But I know sometimes you have to wait for the good things! So I'll be a good girl and wait 😘
“The ocean was my watery grave, and my siren’s arms were my casket.”
Sirens of the Sugar Seas is a short F/F Instalove novella. It was fun and whimsical.
The story follows “the girl” who after heartbreak on land, decides to board a ship and set for sea with a captain and his crew. What happens aboard the ship is tales of sea legends and of sirens luring men to their watery deaths. When a siren meets a girl, the story changes and what unfolds is deep longing and acceptance.
“I could die in the sea with my siren or I could live a half life on land.”
Overall this is a nice little story. It was interesting and short. It’s low on the spice scale but still a good story.
As always, a super fun concept from Kat in the interwoven universe that she has created- it’s always exciting to see what she will come up with next. This one just felt a bit rushed to me. It had a lot of potential and set up for fun, but rushed through not only the lead up (spice included) but the climax and conclusion of the story as well. It needed depth in the story and just a little more all around. A ton of really great potential to be expanded upon.
