Probably one of Mr. Legg's best novels, but I was a little disappointed in the excessive use of God's name in vain. Videos me down some, and almost quit reading a time or two!
I have to give this intense story five stars, as this outstanding group of misfits continuously stayed the course, regardless of their endless dead end encounters! Hudson, Mad Buffalo and their rag tag group of Soldiers continuously fought their foes, regardless of the fact they were out manned and outgunned most of the time!
Outstanding storylines that successfully maintains everyone's desires attention and the Author's selection of characters were perfectly selected for their assignments throughout this compelling western folklore masterpiece of unending excitement!
Definitely recommend this compassionately motivated story to all you western addicted enthusiasts, but as I prefaced this series of events, God is demeaned very heavily throughout the entire story! It is a compassionately motivated story, and the Author did an exceptionally outstanding job in maintaining my attention from beginning to end!!!😃

I enjoyed reading about a frontiersman travelling from Tennessee to the West. Breckenridge is a great name too. He is only eighteen, very tall, with bright red hair.
There is a lot of violence, but he has a lot of adventures, such as sailing down the Mississippi river on a keelboat while fighting pirates in canoes, joining a cartographer who is traveling with a small army unit trying to discover a new route out west. He fights lots of Indians too.

Army versus indian
I tried a d i made it half way but it just didn't have enough of a plot. The army steals his horses and he agreed to scout for missing soldiers. They know the troubled blue cost didn't fight the Indians but instead of killing him they kept him because they would need him in the next fight. Nope not going to waste any more time on this

A good story but:
I have read a lot of your books, and do not remember such vulgar and obscene language. I finished reading the book and skipped over the vulgar and offensive language. Keep it clean.

Enjoyable two hours, well worth reading, ending could have been better.
I picked it was in a box of books I bought at a local fete. I would buy a book by this author, worthy of four stars.

Stubborn
Quite a story of loyalties and stick to it mentality. Lots of action. A little too much of foul language....otherwise a exciting adventure.

Good story
Was thinking more of a mountain man tale. Wound up being more of a tale of Indian/Mexican/us army tale. Was still a good tale. Worth a read

Profanity
The story line was good. However, the profuse profanity was distracting and did not add to the story. Too bad as John Legg is a good author.

Didn't finish
Too many situations I didn't like, maybe some of the language. It could have been a first book, so I'll read one more.

Quality .
No rubbish, really good characters not too flowery or heroic , like the actions of Taken back Woman getting involved

Plenty of action
Action from the start keeps you turning the page to see what they will face next. Definitely a very good read!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I must say this book is as enjoyable as any of the many John Legg books that I have read. Well worth a read you will not be disappointed.

Not your Max Brand/L'Amour style western but a good enjoyable story. Author seems to love the words "shit stick".
