After my medical discharge from the Army due to a brain injury, I’ve had to reinvent myself. Not easy when I can’t even remember what I ate for breakfast.

Or the hot, older guy I went home with. Oops.

When I run into him a second time and hit him up as if we’ve never met before, Jarek’s a little insulted. I can’t exactly blame him. But when he learns my memory is shit, he seems flattered I’ve picked him up twice.

And he’s all in for hooking up again. And then again. Our chemistry is off the charts.

We’re just friends with benefits, nothing more. I want to take my time exploring who I am, and Jarek wants the happily ever after and white picket fence.

But the more time we spend together, the more I question if it’s really only friendship I want from him. I’m getting awfully attached. Could it be we want the same thing?

Bean is the second book in the Honorably Discharged series, featuring a sweet guy who’d forget his own name if he didn’t write it down, a guy who thought he’d never find love again, found family, an age gap, friends-with-benefits to lovers, hurt/comfort, and a steamy happily ever after.

Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?

The short? You got it.

I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.

How was that?

A little more detail? Gotcha.

I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.

My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as it has a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.

Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

This was heading to be a 5* read until the third act tension break-up which I'd seen coming a mile away once a certain list is written by Bean.

I really wish the authors hadn't taken this route because it just made me feel irritated as it felt it was done purely as a means of causing that drama point around the 80% mark.

Now, having said the above, the rest of the book is absolutely wonderful. I'm very much loving this series about this bunch of Army comrades finding love having been invalided out due to someone else's error and how they all come to deal with their new lives.

Apart from the niggle in the spoiler, Jarek was a perfect person for Bean, he was kind, patient, his own insecurities made him more vulnerable but it worked in a way that helped their relationship develop, because he was constantly communicating with the younger man to make sure there were no miscommunications.

Bean is sunshine to Jarek, he's dealing with a situation that would have left most people bitter and angry, but his positive attitude and determination to try and have a life filled with all the usual activities of someone his age.

He's also finally wanting to explore his bisexuality and deal with the repression his overly strict religious upbringing has created and, for me, this element of the narrative was expressed beautifully from the beginning.

I expect the superb research on disability and trauma from both these authors as they've written some superb books dealing with a variety of subjects before, so that was no surprise, but I loved the way they approached how Jarek and Bean navigated sex and intimacy.

This was a great second entry in this series and while Nash's is the book I'm most looking forward to, I think Tamron's (hopefully with Dayton) is going to be a cracker too.

#ARC kindly received from the authors, I am voluntarily leaving a review

I'm not going to rate this book.

I was going to drop it at 40% in, but then decided to push through quickly to see if it gets better.

It doesn't get better. It's a bore, like a textbook for TBI with almost no chemistry between the main characters and I hardly finished it.

🟢 Army vet/a finance guy
🟡 Age gap about a decade, I'm guessing, the army guy's in his 30's, the other one in 40's
🔵 Traumatic brain injury, quite extreme
🟣 Gay/bi-awakening
🟠 The best friend and the brother side characters bothered me
🌶️ Some sex, but almost like an afterthought; frotting, oral, some rimming, penetrative; t/b, hinting at vers

A lot of the same elements were used here as in the previous installment.

The army guy, Bean, was the sunshine in this case, but overall he wasn't a very fleshed out character, he almost sounded like he's got special needs, I honestly couldn't get a grip on his acting and talking, I didn't get the sense of him being a grown man.

I do know 2 people with TBI, one with a severe case and I know how people function with brain damage like this, but Bean didn't seem like this was his only problem. Considering he had a pretty demanding job in the military, none of that came through.

Jarek was an older silver fox and too accommodating and cheesy for my taste, he's a caretaker, sure, but not in a very attractive way, so when these guys meet over and over again and go through countless dialogues together to comfort and assure each other about what they're experiencing and what it all means, I was soon sick of it, the story was boring, dragged on, had too many pages and didn't really pull me in.

The bi-awakening was awkward

"Fiddle faddle, his tongue was on me! Licking the head of my penis!"

"Mother Francis, I’d never been that deep inside anyone’s mouth."

and the black book with the lists and forgetting things and talking about it 24/7 throughout the whole book was too much

“Oh, sugar snaps. Were we supposed to meet today? Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. I must not have written that down!”

All the time. Honestly, he sounded like Forrest Gump, except when he was having sex.

Not to mention the love story was completely lackluster. They're boring and I can't find even an ounce of interest in me for their relationship, I don't care.

Nash lost a little bit of his edge here, I'm hoping he stays as interesting as he was in the previous book and gets a really good love story.

I'm reading the next installment, but I already know how it'll go, the stories are very predictable in this series.

A sweet af MM romance with trauma, hope, belonging, hurt, love, comfort, feels, care, patience, & tears!
The blurb pulled me in & skimming couple scenes at start made me LOCK in. I'm glad I did! Devoured this in 8hrs, Loved Jarek & Bean. Btw, It sucks that most Characters here had bad parents but they've great found-family/roomies 😭.

Bean (Mr. Bean! *Pun 🤭) is sweet, resilient, endearingly blunt! I think he's the 1st MC I've read with *permanent* brain injury, especially short term memory loss! It's written well. He's optimistic but has down days too 😭. B's ex-military; finally exploring his bisexuality...& the 1st man he gets is Jarek! (I want this type of luck 😌)

Jarek is a lawyer who's on a new start, learning to live & be happy again after divorce from his nasty ex! J's older, experienced, caring, protective & oh so patient. I loved to see him with B, they mesh together so well ❤️.

From hookups to "only" friends-with-benefits... The sweet & gentle, The story, "rhymes with Derek", little diary; Experiences to remembrance...It's fun & cute! The hurt, fears, insecurities 🥺😢, growth & how they light eachother up ❤️. But do they want love & are they ready for it? (😌😏✨🥺)

It's slow-build on lust, but J+B's chemistry's lit 🔥. I loved that they tried so much before 👉🕳️. I liked to see the worry about "nasty messes" 😁, we don't see it much! There's vers talks, but sadly none on page...Maybe a bonus?!

But ya know, when it's all going very good & you get a bad feeling for those last few chapters? Yeah. A lil spoiler-y but ugh THAT (IYKYK) list B wrote, I KNEWW 😭. Ugh, I loved the pain tho 😈. It's understandable but hurttt. Loved the sweet ending 🥺❤️.

I'll try more from this series but like I really, really want Nash's book. He's awesome! Also I'm glad J's bro got the girl 🙌. Tam was a lil annoying but won me over. Creek with his beau 😍. I really like Nora's books & am glad to finally try Lindsey's too.

Story ratings: Enjoyed—> 5/5

POV: 1st Person, Dual POV
1) The Characters & relationship: 5/5
2) The feels: 😯🤭🥺😍😅😋😳😏🙃😌💞🥰☺️🙁😢😬😭🤗
3) Sexy/Steamy scenes: 3.25/5
4) Levels: Lowish Angst, Very Cute, Some Dark
5) Build up & Style: 4.75/5

I loved this even more than the first book, 4.5 stars!

Bean is a sweet military bi man who is struggling with a traumatic brain injury he got from an accident in the Army. He lives with 2 other army vets recovering from the same incident, under the watchful eye of their first Sergeant, Nash.

Bean might not remember the face or name of the silver fox he hooked up with one fateful night, but he remembers how great the experience was, and he wants a repeat. His silver fox, Jarek, is pretty understanding when Bean doesn't recognize him after their first encounter.

Jarek is facing his own lack of confidence when he meets Bean, but he's too intrigued and infatuated by his kindness and innocence to walk away.

Bean may forget some of their conversations, but that doesn't deter Jarek from trying to build on their connection. Through Bean's physical and emotional issues, Jarek is willing to put in the work and do whatever it takes to make Bean his man 🥰

Albeit, the third act is fairly predictable and you will see it coming. But it's not drawn out or painful; a miscommunication is honestly the least worst thing that could have happened at that stage. Jarek never fails to be the man that Bean needs, and in the end they both realize that they're perfect for each other.

Audio: 3 stars for John Solo, I don't hate his narrations, but sometimes how he narrates just bugs me haha, it's hard to explain haha
Book: DNF @23%...

I thought that this would be better than book 1, which I totally forgot so you can read this as a standalone.

While this had an interesting concept, I don't think this book is for me. The cheesy non-swearwords from Bean became annoying, and I don't think I could listen to them any longer haha. And I didn't really like either character, so I decided to quit.

I think I have come to find out within the last year or so, that these authors, whether they be writing separate or together are very hit or miss with me. And sadly this was a miss.

Gah, I love it. Bean and Jarek are so understanding with each other, so sincere, and sweet, and caring. And then boom, here come their own flaws, and that was what made me fall head over hills in love with this two broken souls. They felt real, not just imaginary characters.
These two authors mesh so well together it's almost impossible to tell this book was written by more than one person. And when it comes to cowriting it isn't easy. Kudos to both Nora Phoenix and EM Lindsey.

Ooooh yisus.

Oh my goodness oh my goodness Bean needs to be protected at all costs I love him so much 😭

Favorite Qoutes :

Bean made me feel beautiful and wanted. It scared me a little.

Creek’s reaction, however, was hilarious. He looked almost panicked as he asked, “Did I do that? Did I make you bi?” Nash damn near lost it, laughing so hard. His whole body shook and tears formed in his eyes. “It’s not contagious, you dipshit. What, you think that because you suddenly love dick, Bean would too?” Creek laughed sheepishly. “Yeah? No? I dunno, man. I just thought… Fuck, I don’t know what I was thinking. But it’s not about me anyway. Congrats on coming out, Bean. Happy dick- hunting.”

“Well, I had, but not on purpose. Look at it this way: I said yes to hooking up with you again, so technically, I chose you twice. That’s a compliment, right?”

“Jarek. My name is Jarek. And don’t apologize. Ask as often as you need, and I’ll be happy to tell you every time.”

You’re not a complication. You’re sweet, you’re sexy, and I want to spoil the hell out of you, so how about we move on to that part of the program?”

“Yeah, sweet thing, but you’ve probably had enough discomfort to last a lifetime. You should let people spoil you.”

“But you’re dating him now.” I choked on my own spit. “Uh. No, honey. I’m not dating anyone now. Or ever again, probably. I mean, look at me.” “Silver bear hottie?” “Silver bear is not a thing.”

"And don’t say call Bean.” His lips twitched. “I will never get over how fucking cute that nickname is for a guy who was literally in combat.”

He chuckled. “Soroka. Jarek Soroka.” Idiot that I was, I actually extended my hand to him. “Merrill Stringfield.” To Jarek’s credit, he didn’t laugh at me as he took it. “It’s such a pleasure to meet you… every single time, Bean.”

“Mmm, you taste so good, sweet thing. Addictive,” he whispered before surging into my mouth again.

You have no idea what it’s like to be constantly betrayed by your own brain. I was a soldier, healthy and in the best shape of my life. And now I’m… I’m this shell of who I used to be, this weak excuse for a man, constantly forced to humiliate myself and admit I can’t do something, always needing to ask for help. I hate it. I hate everything about it. I hate my stupid brain, and I hate that I can’t ever be normal again…”

So incredibly unfair. I did nothing wrong, but because someone else messed up, I will never be whole again.

“I don’t want him to choose me because he thinks no one else will ever love him the way I do.”

This was my happily ever after. Bean was my person. He’d come along later than I’d hoped, but I still had plenty of years ahead of me. I didn’t just want him. I needed him.

“I’ve worked so hard to get better, and what did it get me? Nothing. Nothing works. Nothing will ever make me normal again. I will always be this… this freak with the scrambled brain who can’t remember anything. And one day, you guys will get tired of me, too, and you’ll walk away from me like everyone else. Because you have to be perfect to be loved, right? If you’re not perfect, if you don’t conform to how others want you to be, you’re not worthy of love. I’m not worthy of love, and I never will be.”

“How handsome you are, my beloved,” I whispered. “Your love is more delightful than wine.”

My beloved. My silver bear. My Jarek… Rhymes with Derek.

I’m grateful every day that you keep choosing me, even when you can’t remember all the details.”

Bean & Jarek
I loved everything about Bean! This story had several heartbreaking and tensely sensitive moments, but I loved the instant dynamic between Jarek & Bean. Jarek was endlessly patient, and despite the biggest misunderstanding in the book, he was perfect for Bean and all the issues that come with his TBI.

We're not given any information regarding Bean before his TBI, but I can't imagine his inherent goodness would ever have changed, and if so, I'm sure Nash would have told him. Bean has got to be one of the sweetest MCs I've read in a while. His innocence is special, and he works so hard to make his life as "normal" as possible (don't tell Nash I used that word😉).

I love the way in which Bean's TBI is introduced and explained. I know it can manifest differently in people, especially based on the level of trauma. Bean's accident was supremely unnecessary and unfortunate, but he was so strong--even when he struggled--that there was never any moment you doubted his ability to do what he said he would. He never needed pity, just support. His Army brothers are all amazing, and the friends he makes through Zayd's bar, even when rarely mentioned, are incredible. The found family elements in this series are heartwarming and inspiring. Each of these guys are going through something many of us will never understand (I certainly don't), but the way our authors research and write out the story for each of them is engaging and educational. I know a [little] bit about TBIs from a friend of mine who is currently living through her trauma, but it's definitely not the same, and I applaud anyone that has to live through that kind of challenge in their life.

Bean is an incredible story in the Honorably Discharged series. I loved every moment of it so much that I devoured it in less than a day. You don't "need" to read Creek (book 1) before Bean, but you won't regret it and you will understand the bits with those MCs better if you do.

I received an advance copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

This is a great series -maybe the books are a bit shorter and simpler than my preferences, but they are so good, well thought out, written, researched about the several disabilities. And Bean himself was probably my favorite MC of this series, his disability is profound and his feelings so reasonable but the authors managed to give him depth and show how loveable he is.

BUT oh but, it was totally the wrong pairing for him. This is probably just a me thing, so you all judge for yourself, but IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NASH! NASH! Not what-his-name-rhymes-with-Derek. The chemistry, the care, Nash was so much more interesting than Jarek. And then there is third act breakup over a stupid misunderstanding and while I was reasonably liking Jarek till then (though he was bland) I just could not get over it, and even the reunion his lines, his actions were all kind of red flags. So yeah, it sucks when you read a romance novel and you think the MC you love is choosing the wrong person. But it might be a me problem only.

Nash's book is still to come (bdsm hints? The younger brother of one of the guys) but not sure if I want to read it, much as I loved this series because I am going to be OTP'ing Bean and Nash anyway. It should have been Nash!

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Bean is the second book in Nora Phoenix and E.M. Lindsey’s Honorably Discharged series featuring a found family of veterans. The guys live together and rely on one another for support, so while the relationships stand alone, the MCs are a big part of each other’s stories and the books work nicely as a series. That said, you could probably jump in here without too much trouble.

This story is a nice balance of sexy, while also being super sweet and cozy feeling.

I continue to really like this group of men and I enjoy the way they all support one another.

This was a nice 3.5-star read for most of the book, and I thought I'd likely round it up, but the climax ruined it for me.

As soon as the list was written, I could see the obvious outcome, and the authors didn't miss it - much to my chagrin.

I understand Jarek was hurt by what he misunderstood, but think the whole thing was poorly handled and contrived. Drama. I hate drama.

Overall though, this book is full of super nice people, who are patient and kind, and the couple are sweet as sugar.

Not my cup of tea. I feel like most of Bean and Jarek's connection and attraction to each other was based on comparisons with other people, especially Jarek's ex and how opposite Bean was to him.

Additionally, I will never be fond of characters healing when meeting each other. Yes, help each other along, but here they almost magically dissolved all insecurities in each other. The amount of pet names also became a little ridiculous for me.

Finally, there was The Big Misunderstanding. Keep in mind these are adult men, and I think we could do without miscommunication.

I'm going with 3.5 stars for this one. I really enjoyed it, but there were some things that bugged me or just simply was not to my preference in romance books.

I really love this series and all the characters. It's quite frankly heartbreaking to see these men try to learn to live again after their injuries. (Note: I'm not the biggest fan of soldier romances because of my pacifist heart. So, it doesn't really add or take away that the injuries happened in the army.)

Bean is such a sweet guy. He has a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that affects his short-term memory a lot. He often forgets stuff, and he needs to keep a notebook to remind himself of what happened every day. I think the authors did a wonderful job portraying him and his struggles. It was compassionate but honest, and it did not try to hide how messed up TBI can be.

Jarek is also so sweet and patient. He has his own baggage, but he's also simply a good person. He's not judgemental about Bean's TBI. He wants to learn about it and live with it rather than ignore it or make Bean out to be incapable of living, like how Bean's mother does. I also appreciated a lot that Jarek's best friend is a trans woman. Ivy's such a hoot and the bestest friend to Jarek.
His baggage is his ex and his failed marriage. Though we don't really get too many details, it's obvious he struggles with how he-s been treated, and he let himself be treated for so long.

Bean and Jarek's connection is so powerful from the very first moment. And even though Bean doesn't really remember him at the beginning, it just make their bond that much stronger.
There are lots of spicy scenes as one of the aspect of their friendship with benefits is that Jarek teaches Bean about gay pleasure. The lots of spice is one of the aspects leading to a lower star rating. I am just simply not a fan of too much spice in my books and the whole "experienced lover/newbie" trope.

The other thing that bothered me was the miscommunication and third-act break-up based on a misunderstanding and jumping to conclusions. I saw it coming from miles away, and I did not appreciate it. It's not a good plot point. Especially when you write about a character who has to rely on his friends and family to fill in the blanks of his leaky memory. It almost seemed cruel from Jarek even if his feelings were understandable.

My favourite part of the book and the series are obviously the friendships. Especially between Nash and Bean. It's just so wonderful to see a male friendship bloom like theirs.

Overall, the book is good. It has its faults, it's far from perfect, but it's enjoyable, and the characters are worth it.

This book was beautiful! I remembered I really wanted to read this book after book one in the series (also because Nora Phoenix never lets down), but when this finally came out I completely forgot why I liked it so much. Also I couldn’t remember anything about Bean. (After rereading book 1 I realized why, Bean is such a side character he’s only mentioned a few times and only appears twice in that book).

Bean was the sweetest and cutest and Jared is so lovely most of the book. The way they connect and the patience Jared has for Bean is the best.
I also love the relationship Bean has with Nash. Nash is totally his dad, although they consider each other brothers. And I loved that Bean was rehearsing his sex words to get them into his system and Nash’ reaction to that.

Two things I didn’t like:
1) when Gio shows up unannounced but just when Jared thought of him felt forced and weird, and didn’t really add anything to the story (closure maybe?)
2) The third act breakup felt out of character and annoyed me a bit. Why not just ask him right away what the list was about?

Still five stars though because of the way they made up. And because of the feels this book gave me.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series although I’m not as fond of Tameron just yet. I do love Nash a lot and I hope he and Creeks brother get together in the end 😁

When these two authors collaborate you know you're getting a deeply involved story that may not always be pretty, but will always make you feel like you have a front row seat to the action. I absolutely love Bean and Jarek together... it's a high heat story that slowly builds the relationship - at least in the eyes of the two protagonists...

It's also well researched and sympathetically written in a way that showcases Bean's TBI without making it the whole story, and without making it the dealbreaker. I also love that Bean is proactive and seeks to use the tools around him to better adapt to his situation. I love the way Jarek interacts, not only with Bean, but with his Honorably Discharged brothers, and also how the side characters and found family impact the story.

This book is best read in order after Creek, but can be read standalone if you are looking for the tropes in this story.

"You’re not a complication. You’re sweet, you’re sexy, and I want to spoil the hell out of you, so how about we move on to that part of the program?”

Bean & Jarek (rhymes w/ Derek) are the sweetest, schmoopiest couple that just fills your heart with goodness. Bean suffers from a traumatic brain injury inflicted while he was in the Army. Jarek is newly divorced from his horrible narcissistic ex-husband. Once Bean allows himself to explore his bi-sexuality, he meets Jarek. They're both only looking for a hookup, yet immediately turns into so much more. It's such a beautiful & heart-tugging story watching them face the struggles of Bean's memory limitations. Some of the best parts of their story is the found family relationships that begins to expand beyond Bean, Nash, Tameron & Creek (& Heath). I love how Jarek & daddy Nash become besties.

Overall, I'm loving this series. It's totally shelf worthy. I'm excited for books 3&4 to release.

I don't think any of us actually think about memory issues being a disability until we suffer from it firsthand. My memory was always poor, but after I suffered a life-altering illness, my memory was shot to hell. I was blessed that I survived the illness, but my brain will be forever damaged. I appreciate the fact that these authors were able to amplify the many aspects of TBI and the never-ending struggle to just get through one day at a time.

Bean is my hero! Jarek and my HB have many things in common... patience is the first thing that comes to mind, and support the second!!!

But this book was so unsexy. I’m reading for the fantasy of good romance, good sex etc not talking about pooing yourself when having sex. While yes it can happen I don’t want to read about it. If I want bad sex and awkward conversations about sex I’ll just go and do it myself.

Bean
Honorably Discharged, Book 2
By: Nora Phoenix, E.M. Lindsey
Narrated by: John Solo

It is great to be back in Nora Phoenix’s and E.M. Lindsey’s “Honorably Discharged” world again for another fantastic novel and I loved everything about it, from their wonderful writing style to the fabulous characters and storylines they created to the perfectly cast narrator who brings it all to life from the pages to your ears. Each book in the series features different member of a found family of Army veterans and to get the most out of the incredible world building and character development I recommend enjoying the series in order written, not a necessity, but the characters crossover into each other’s books and knowing their backstory will add depth. This second book of the series is Bean and Jarek’s story, a story that captivates your attention the entire time and tugs at your heartstrings, too. You can feel how much heart the authors put into their work as the emotions pour off the pages and straight into your own heart. Severely injured while serving, Bean, a survivor, is learning to live a traumatic brain injury, and he has a great support system by his side, including Nash, who he served with and is like a big brother/father figure to him. I loved how gentle, patient, and caring Nash was with him and I can not wait for him to get his own story with his special someone, too. After his recent divorce and being laid off from his job, Jarek is starting fresh, renovating a new townhouse to live in, and starting a new job. Not wanting to get into another relationship so quickly, he goes out looking for a hookup at a local pub, where Bean was just hired to work as a cook. After confiding in Nash and coming out as bi, which was difficult because of his strict religious upbringing, Nash encouraged Bean to put himself out there, and he felt an easiness with Jarek and an instant connection, too. Jarek was great with Bean, understanding and comforting, but since it was only a hookup, they did not make further plans, besides Bean knew he would not remember him or their encounter, anyway. Except that was not the last they would see of each other, a second meeting was awkward at first, since Bean did not remember him, but all was well after he explained about his TBI. I thought these two were great together and for each other and loved watching them get to know each other, navigate a new relationship and watch it morph into something so much more. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, with a touch of angst, some charming and heartwarming moments, lots of heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Nora Phoenix and E.M. Lindsey, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And what makes this amazing story and collaboration even better is having a wonderfully talented and entertaining storyteller deliver a top-notch portrayal of each character. John Solo not only humanized these characters with their personality, but he gave each a voice that was fitting, sounding believable, and just as I imagined they would sound. He has an extensive range of voices and his ability to voice each character differently makes it easier to follow along and tell who is who, which is especially perfect with the back-and-forth dialogue that he delivers effortlessly, never missing a beat. Just like the authors, you could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures all the characters’ emotions and has you feeling them all. John Solo’s enthralling performance brings you into the story and keeps you there straight to the end. Thanks for another fabulous listen.

Bean was such a wonderful breath of fresh air. He’s been through such trauma and left with residual effects of a head injury that impaired his short-term memory. As a therapist, I’ve worked with many patients with short-term memory issues and it is a struggle. And I felt like this author did a very honest portrayal of someone dealing with this situation in the most positive manner he can, but also showing at times that it is frustrating. He still "loses" things but he has coping mechanisms and strategies in place to try to help him function as well as possible. But it is still a challenge and affects every part of his life. I also loved that his friends and roommates were such a support system to him while also trying to make him feel that he is worthy. It hurt my heart when he struggled, but I was also proud of him when he was able to accomplish the little goals he set for himself.

And the silver fox Jarek just won my heart too. He has been burned by love and his whole life has just recently imploded. He doesn’t feel like he’s in a place to begin a relationship and has his own self-worth issues. But these two hook up and have one memorable night...sort of. But they find each other again. And the more time they spend with each other the more time that Jarek understands Bean's special qualities and limitations, and the more that Jaek becomes embedded into Bean's memory and the fabric of his life.

It was a unique love story based on their certain needs at each part of the process. Initially, they just needed to physically connect with someone and feel wanted (and gain experience in Bean's case), but they also become more friends-with-benefits and transition into feelings they never expected and fall into a relationship they thought they weren’t ready for. But I loved them together. Jarek was so kind and patient and enraptured by Bean. And Bean brought sunshine to Jarek‘s life and made him feel wanted and important.

I have really enjoyed the series so far and we get to see Creek and Heath, and all the other characters. I am really looking forward to Tameron and Nash‘s books.

I absolutely loved Bean and Jarek's romance! I thought Nora Phoenix and E. M. Lindsey did a fantastic job crafting these characters with authenticity, and I really enjoyed the softer, sweeter nature of their relationship. Both Bean and Jarek were unconvinced that they were ready for love at the beginning of this book, but they also weren't ready to walk away from each other after a single night. I was totally smitten by their connection even as they were still learning about each other--Bean was such a sweetheart even though he was way too hard on himself about not having a "normal" brain, and Jarek's kind, accepting nature made him the perfect anchor for Bean to lean on when he was uncertain. There was something uniquely wonderful about the measured, steady way they fell in love--I could tell that both men weren't rushing into feelings or trying to force something that wasn't really there. Instead they made the conscious choice to get to know each other and build their relationship on a timeline that worked for both of them. I especially loved how tender and sweet their physical explorations were--I thought I was going to melt into a puddle every time Jarek started up with his praise and Bean was brave enough to express what he wanted. Outside of the bedroom, I just really, genuinely liked the kind of men Bean and Jarek were--men with flaws and past trauma, sure, but good-hearted people who were worthy of an epic love story. It was an honor to watch both of them grow into happier versions of themselves throughout this book, and while not everything was smooth sailing, the way they responded to the low moments was what convinced me they were ready to hold onto each other by the time I reached the ending.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
