Peace Falls #2

For You I'd Mend

Rate this book
Tall, chiseled, and covered in tattoos and piercings, Theo looked exactly like every other bad boy I’d ever dated, but unlike my exes, the badness stopped at his spiky exterior. He’s thoughtful, kind, and unbelievably talented. In other words, a damn unicorn of a man. I’d hinted I’d be down for more. I’d outright flirted. I’d done everything except straddle him, but he’d kept me frozen in the friend zone for over a year. So I’d set a secret New Year’s Resolution: Stop lusting after Theo Makris.

For You I'd Mend is a steamy small town friends-to-lovers romance with a HEA, a cast of quirky characters, and no cheating. Though it can be enjoyed on its own, the tension between Poppy and Theo begins in Book 1 of the Peace Falls For You I'd Break.

This was a great friends to lovers book, watching Theo finally succumb to Poppy's unique charm was so entertaining. My heart broke so many times for Theo throughout this book but I loved how supportive his friends were. All in all I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

I recieved an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Poppy was in love with Theo and would try and get him to admit his feelings for her a list himself live a life he deserved

Poppy always felt different than everyone else in her family, in her small town, anywhere. And driving her baby, Tallulah made it worth feeling different. Because at least now they were talking about the car and not her. Especially when she added the red flames to the side. It was her not-so-subtle warning that she was their hell on wheels. It’s easier to be shocking than likable. She dressed in all black her accessories were heavy, loud, and plentiful. Why? Because she wants to make people feel. Shock, annoyance, curiosity, and emotion don’t matter as long as they are strong.

She loved providing the shock value to everything not just her art. Most of her sculptures are about losing her dad as a kid, the heartbreaking duality of grief and love. She struggled for inspiration lately, and all those soft feelings have knotted into a big ball of annoyance. The shed in their backyard was usually her sanctuary. Not so much anymore. Normally, she saw a piece in her mind before she touched the clay. It felt like the sculpture was already inside her, waiting for her to carve it out. For the past few weeks though, the lump of clay has just been a lump.

She gave the old lazy Susan she stole from her mom a solid spin and watched the knife whirl around. Nope, still not art. The kitchen light cast a warm glow across the gray afternoon and her dark mood. Rowan darted past the window on her way to and from the pantry, preparing for her second baking sprint of the day. Fifteen minutes with an icing bag and her sister was just what she needed to feel better. “Back already.” “Cookies won’t ice themselves.” But what Poppy was doing wasn’t icing cookies she was creating art with each new design and concept.

Whether she or anyone else understands it, or not. For now, it was her lifeline to the medium that helps her express herself. It just doesn't look the same to her because it's not in her normal dark moody style. Shocking started with her hair. In the ten years since middle school, she’d worn it every color except her natural red. It was less about shocking people and more an attempt to limit comparisons to her perfect older sister. Despite her best efforts, her face could still unlock her phone. Poppy’s goth to Rowan’s girlie.

Blunt to her charming. Sarcastic to her sweet. She should have hated her sister on principle, but the bitch was too nice, too supportive, too Rowan to be anything but lovable. Which meant she was unlovable. So not true, everyone loved Poppy and her big heart. A few friends tolerated her she said, in small doses, but real love, the kind that changed a person for the better, wasn’t something she inspired. Just ask all her ex-boyfriends. She holds the dubious honor of being dumped by every person she's dated. Aiden O’Malley was an ass of epic proportions.

She’d rather let her hair grow out in her natural color than date him. But she’d had a full-blown crush on Theo Makris long before Rowan and Cal got together. There was nothing cookie-cutter about Theo. Tall, chiseled, and covered in tattoos and piercings, he looked exactly like every other bad boy she’d ever dated, but unlike her exes, the badness stopped at his spiky exterior. He’s thoughtful, kind, and unbelievably talented. In other words, a damn unicorn of a man. Last winter she took his art class and they grew close be Rowan moved back to town.

She had flirted with him and told him she was down for more than art and flirting. Crickets in the freezer are called the friend zone. The holidays were brutal. It's just Cal and his parents, Theo only has Cal’s family. So, of course, her Mom invites them all to celebrate together. Poppy set a secret New Year’s resolution: Stop lusting after Theo Makris. Step one: Try not to think about him. (Clearly, that was going to take some work.) Step two: Spend less time with him. But when a natural catastrophe takes out her art shed it's Theo who runs out, and rescues her.

Theo stays by her side, and she shares her secrets with him while fighting frostbite. When things get real he scurries away. She has no idea he’s punishing himself for a crime that didn't happen the way he sees it. Such a good story of pain, healing, and redemption.

Another great small-town romance exploring themes of guilt, grief, and healing. 'For You I'd Mend' is a satisfying read.

We pick up where For You I'd Mend left off with Rowan's sister Poppy and her budding romance with one of Cal's best friends, Theo. Throughout the last installment, Poppy and Theo are clearly into each other, stuck in a will they, won't they situation. Theo's grief and guilt surrounding the death of one of his best friends in his teen years led him to adopt a 'straight edge' lifestyle in which, in an attempt to punish himself, he denies himself anything more than the bare necessities. While everyone around him can recognize that this is unhealthy, Theo is dedicated to maintaining this punishment for as long as possible. It's only when Poppy, who he's been nothing more than friends with, starts to push for something more that Theo's mindset is forced to change.

We learn a lot about Poppy and other characters in this book, however, a lot of the story is focused on Theo's journey. This is a great choice for this part of the series because we get to learn about Logan's death. Theo is the only character that remembers the entire incident and everything that happened and Logan's death is such an important part of this town's backstory. Everything we learn in this book puts into perspective the actions that Theo takes as well as every other character that was around when Logan died.

Theo's struggles with his mental health and guilt are very realistic. He is actively self-harming throughout the story, not only physically by cutting but also in the ways he is punishing himself for Logan's death. It is refreshing to read as his mindset starts to improve and he starts to actually value his life.

Finding a suitable conclusion can be difficult the small-town element and the end of these stories are often the same. Even though the ending feels similar to For You I'd Mend, Theo's decision at the end is very much in character for him. However, the way that Theo chooses to deal with other things does feel forced just to move the story along.

I definitely recommend this spicy romance and I can't wait to read the next installment in this series!

I am fast becoming a devoted Hannah Jordan fan. I loved Book 1 For You I’d Bend. The second book in the series, For You I’d Mend, takes the reader on another heartfelt journey involving a group of friends held together by mutual tragedy and the love they have for one another. While the readers’ favorite characters return from the first novel, For You I’ll Mend, releasing Oct. 10th, focuses on the relationship between Poppy and Theo. Each of them carry burdens they must lay down before they can love themselves and one another. I was rooting for them from the very beginning. Jordan’s writing flows perfectly with deeply complex characters, humorous moments shared among friends, and super steamy romance. I was sorry to reach the final pages, but the great news is that the third novel, For You I’d Bloom, is coming out in January of 2025. Not soon enough for this dedicated reader.

FOR YOU I'D MEND will pull on your heartstrings and take you on an emotional journey that will break your heart before piecing it back together again. After reading “For You I’d Break,” I knew Poppy and Theo’s story would be compelling, but it’s even better than I expected! Both characters have emotional barriers to overcome, and for Theo, his may seem nearly insurmountable. However, the angst and heartache of their struggles only make the softer, more heartwarming moments even more impactful. Witnessing the strength they gain as they navigate and break through their relationship challenges makes this a captivating read. I am getting to know more about the characters of Peace Falls and with each story, I’m falling deeper in love with this series. I can’t wait to read what’s coming in the next installment for Lauren and Aiden.

Hated it

This is not good. It's like if a Hallmark movie was even more sappy. It's not the worst thing I've ever read, but Theo is awful. He just won't stop whining and spends the entire book feeling sorry for himself. Poppy is so weak when it comes to him. He keeps her in the friend zone until someone else hits on her then he's all in. Then he immediately breaks her heart because he doesn't want to bring her down with him. The scenario that occurs which causes him to break up with her is where the book completely lost me. Literally one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Poppy should have told him to kick rocks at this point because he was just so pathetic, but of course she immediately takes him back when he's done wallowing in self pity. Absolutely pathetic excuse for a MMC.

Theo and Poppy’s Peace Falls story is so perfect! Friends to lovers, guy with a tough exterior but such a cinnamon roll/peanut butter center. I love Poppy’s attitude and sass and her “I’m never giving up attitude.” Both main characters are artist which I lovedddd. The Theo Fan Club’s banter is *chefs kiss*. For You I’d Mend does discuss mental health and some topics that might be triggering to people (ex: self harm) but I think Hannah Jordan handles the difficult subject so perfectly! A great read. I can’t wait for the next book in January!!!.

My second visit to Peace Falls and I’m excited to keep coming back!

Another hit by Hannah Jordan, who knows how to keep the spice level turned up while also tugging at your heartstrings. Poppy and Theo caught my attention in the first novel so I loved getting the chance to read their story.

The author is soooo good at writing fully realized (and smoking hot) characters, who have to get out of their own way and actually work for that happily ever after. I can’t wait for the next book in the series – keep ‘em coming!

Love Theo and Poppy!

Ten years after a tragic accident, Theo lives with the guilt every day, even when everyone in town sees the amazing man he is.
Poppy is officially done with peopling, starts her bakery with Rowan, works in her studio, takes Theo's art classes and can't figure out why Theo keeps her in the friend zone.
Their path to their HEA has it all, the laughs, tears, face palms, just want to smack sense into you, wish I could give you a hug, and FINALLY the lightbulb goes off moments, just like real life does.

Poppy and Theo had me drawn to them in this heartwarming story. She wanted a relationship with Theo, but he kept her in the friend zone because of his back story and thinking that he was good enough for him. Their bonding had Theo opening up making these friends find the love they didn't see coming. It is a well written story with supporting characters that had my emotions all over the place as I cheered them on to finding happiness together.

This book undoubtedly surprised me. The story was so well built, to the point that we could really connect with the characters. I'm so happy that Poppy was able to help Theo who was in so much pain thinking that he didn't deserve to be happy and that he didn't deserve to be with her. They are literally the better half of each other

Redemption at it's very finest

Since I won this book, I didn't realize that is not quite a stand alone. I am wrapped up in the arc for sure. I am definitely interested in reading the first book in the series. I appreciate romance books that have related characters with real life problems too deal with.

The second book in this peace falls series was much better as far as I’m concerned. I like this couple I liked our heroine quirkiness, and I like how they ended up coming together and helping one another.

Obsessed with Poppy and Theo! It was so amazing to see both of their character development take place. I think what I loved most is that their internal struggles helped make the story more deep and meaningful. Can’t wait for book 3!!!

Another excellent love story

I love Poppy and Theo. They struggled with his past and anxiety but love prevailed. They are different from your usual main characters and that made them very interesting.

A painful journey for two people who think themselves too broken to love. Enjoyed the pace and how the author peppers more details of the other characters to keep interest in the series.

He could not love.

These two characters will make you laugh and make you cry, their story is a long journey of self doubt, but it is a delight to see them conquer their fears.

5 ⭐️ 3.5🌶

One of my top reads of the year!!
💕 Small town romance
💕 Friends to lovers

Such a beautiful and well written story about learning to love yourself, and to give yourself a chance to love.
Theo (MMC) has PTSD from a motor vehicle accident and lives with a lot of guilt. Poppy is one of his close friends, and while Theo looks like a bad boy with his tattoos and piercings, he's a soft soul. Poppy develops feelings for Theo but he has her in the friend zone as he feels he doesn't deserve happiness.
Their story of discovery and learning to forgive is beautifully written!

Thank you Hannah for a wonderful book and journey with Theo and Poppy ❤️❤️.

Peace Falls is anything but peaceful! Poppy and Theo have a very tumultuous relationship that is full of sexual tension….but it just makes the story better! While I like Theo’s character I have to feel bad for the guy. He seems so sweet but he can’t allow himself to experience happiness. Poppy is a fun and quirky woman…I mean she drives a hearse 😂. And one of the best parts is the antics that the elderly people come up with. Overall this is a cute, slow burn small town romance that gives you the “feels” between laughs!
