Grace General #3

Then There Was You

Rate this book
Megan Abernathy knows two things for certain.

1. Men are trash.

2. Men that aren’t complete trash, are only good for one thing…

That attitude kept her safe. Work hard, play harder, don't let anyone get too close. Then one day her life changed. Her axis was permanently altered, responsibility thrust on her in the form of her five-year-old nephew, who now calls her mom.

Enter Dr. James “Jim” Charlebois. With his annoyingly upbeat personality, Meg planned to avoid him at all costs. Despite her efforts to keep her distance, circumstances force them together, and the tension between them becomes palpable. They share one unforgettable night with no expectations for the future.

Except fate takes control, and their paths intertwine yet again. The old Meg would have never embraced the feelings bubbling to the surface, but Jim does just enough to leave her wondering if not all men are as awful as they’ve once proven to be.

Can she overcome her fears and let love in, or are some men just too good to be true?

I’m not even sure how to put into words how powerful and poignant this books description of life, loss, growth and real love (like kick your heels, put your hand on your heart, feel mildly embarrassed because you’re warm and fuzzy and weepy) was.

It’s likely become quite clear to you that Laura Beth’s books for me are the feeling you get when you get home and can kick off your shoes, pull off your bra, and take a deep exhale because you’re safe and warm. This was the final book in a three part series and to say that I will miss these characters is a gross understatement. I loved this book, I will think about it often, and I will not so patiently wait for whatever Laura graces us with in the future.

👋Therapist Take: I want to be very cautious to not spoil this for anyone. This book tackles some tough stuff but with purpose and beauty and grace. It will make you feel, it might stir up some stuff, but it will envelope you with warmth and understanding and connection because that’s what @authorlaurabeth does. The exploration of grief and the way it is described offers comfort-comparable to some of the 8 hour courses I’ve taken as a therapist in its effectiveness. There’s discussion of how trauma shapes parts of self (IFS therapy-think inner child stuff) which I slow clapped for. This book made me sigh and hold onto my heart and even cry a bit but for joy and peace-if that makes sense.

And the way Laura Beth writes a FMC and a MMC is so ridiculously wonderful that I’m at a loss how to explain the relatability and just general swoon-worthy stuff that the MMC does in shaping what the FMC learns she deserves and can accept. Goodness gracious this book. Read it, read all of them (if you start with book 1 you’ll be right on time for this release). They will leave you breathless.

This was my first Medical Romance and I have been missing out 👀😅🥵 The MMC was perfection & I could cry at the protectiveness he had. “Even if he’s a blonde” 🤭🤭🤭

WOW! Just wow. This book is so real. So relatable. I have enjoyed reading the Grace General series and watching all of the characters grow and find their true love. But, Meg is my favorite of the trio. She has been hurt and knows (thinks) that the best way to avoid getting hurt again is to do life all by herself. But doing it all herself isn’t what she deserves - she deserves the world and Jim is here to give it to her. Meg is so caring and selfless, so strong and determined.

While I love slow burns and the intimacy that can build up over a storyline, the “fling” at the beginning of this book was a nice change of pace. And it was hot 🥵 It honestly made me so excited because I could just sense that this was setting the tone for the intimate side of Meg and Jim’s relationship. Chef’s kiss. These two are perfect for each other and this book captured the potential of their wonderful, loving relationship.

And on the topic of spoilers, can I just say I LOLed at the bonus epilogue 🚐🚑

Tropes:

• he falls first
• golden retriever MMC
• black cat FMC

✨ARC REVIEW✨

My girl Laura wrote ANOTHER amazing book! This might just be my new favorite of hers...but I gotta do a reread of It Was Always You to fairly make that call!

Right off the bat we are given the cutest banter from Jim and Meg and I JUST KNEW I was going to be swooning for this man. And then add in the spicyyy scene and I was a GONER. One thing was missing in this scene and I've spoken to Laura about it...this will be rectified, I will make sure of it lmao. But wowzers, I loved a demanding Jim, FOR SURE.

I'm not gonna lie, I couldn't put this down. This could easily be read in one sitting. I found myself getting giddy and chuckling out loud a handful of times. Genuinely, this was so cute and so beautifully written.

Meg has taken on a lot; she's working three jobs all while being the guardian to her sister and nephew. She doesn't have time for a relationship, especially since her trust for men have slowly disappeared after her ex. Then there's Jim. He's been pining for her for years and will stop at nothing to show her just how much he cares for her and will be there to help her, no matter what.

I loved the overall storylines and plot.

Jim stepped up in a big way and there's no way this man could even be real. These book boyfriends have so unrealistically raised my expectations for men and Jim has made that list. He might actually be the perfect boyfriend. This man did A LOT for her and expected nothing in return. He just wanted to prove his love and oof, I'm a little weak for him. I loved his personality and when he tells Meg that his attitude automatically gets happier when he sees her, just melted me. He has such a good soul.

Jim and Jackson...I could write a novel on how adorable this was. Like, OF COURSE HE IS GOOD WITH KIDS GTFO JIM. This whole thing just made me love him even more.

Meg is a fiery little thing and I loved her. She is definitely more standoffish but understandably so. Like I said, she's got a lot going on. She also doesn't want to ask for help and of course Jim is like "can I help?" LOL. She just wants what's best for her sister and nephew and I applaud her for all her sacrifices. I love how she softened for Jim. He proved that he was worth it and I'm glad she opened her eyes to see just how much she is loved by him.

They were truly adorable and I just love how much they love each other. I loved watching their friendship grow and turn into more. It was beautiful.

The food poisoning scene...I can't hahaha

Also. "I said I was starving but I wasn't talking about pasta" OKAY JIM. I SEE YOU BABE.

With IWAY, Laura made me cry and I thought nah...she won't get me again. BISH DID. There are some beautifully written emotional scenes in this and there may just be a speech Jim makes that got me teary or whatever. It was good...ugh.

Now. I may have mentioned to Laura I like some good drama. She gave me some good drama. I can't say what but...yay! Who doesn't love a little fight? Especially when you aren't involved!!

Overall, this was super cute and I really enjoyed it. I had such an enjoyable experience reading this book but like...I'm not surprised!

I do recommend reading this whole series because these characters are just great! I love their friendship and love that they all make cameos in all the books! And these men are just...hehe, they're so pretty.

Thank you Laura Beth, my lovely friend, for the ARC copy! I'm forever and always grateful for these opportunities and can't wait to read what's next! <3 This review is completely unbiased, I swear hahah

Then There Was You by Laura Beth is an absolute gem and the perfect finale to the Grace General series! This book is a well-paced, relatable rollercoaster of emotions, filled with laughs, tears, and pure adoration for Jim. From the moment the flirty banter begins, you're hooked, and when the spice hits early, it's the cherry on top of an already delectable romance.

Laura Beth has an incredible talent for writing female characters who are strong, sassy, yet still human and vulnerable. Meg is no exception—sassy and stubborn, she learns that sharing the burdens of life doesn't diminish her strength but enhances it. Her journey is beautifully crafted, showing that emotions and trials aren’t weaknesses but part of what makes us whole. It's refreshing to see more mature characters in romance, making the story even more relatable and believable.

And then there's Jim—oh, Jim Charley-boy, the man that you are… swoon. I thought Daddy Emmett would forever hold the top spot in my heart, but Jim has made a serious case for himself. His golden retriever, cinnamon roll vibe is irresistible. From how he interacts with Meg and her family to his quiet acts of kindness, Jim is the definition of perfection—a true good one! Every moment with him is pure magic, and his love for Meg is a beautiful thing to behold.

The epilogues were the perfect way to wrap up this series. The second one had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes—such a perfect representation of all the wonderful Grace General FMCs. Wild and crazy Jenna, serious and patient Lainey, and of course, our beloved sassy and angry Meg. The bond they share is beautifully showcased, making this series unforgettable.

Laura Beth has truly outdone herself with this finale. The Grace General series will forever be one of my favorites, with its memorable characters and heartwarming love stories. If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend beginning with It Was Always You so you don’t miss a single moment of this incredible journey. Then There Was You is everything I wanted and more—this book has my whole heart!

Ohh, and the Acknowledgements - if you know me IRL, please read them too! I legit cried reading them! Laura Beth, I'm so grateful that bookstagram brought us together!

ARC REVIEW

I was impatiently awaiting the release for TTWY and was thrilled when I got an ARC!

This final book in the Grace General series was well-paced, relatable, and a rollercoaster of emotions. Laughs, tears, pure adoration for Jim. Not to mention I love when the spice hits early!

I also love how this author writes female characters - strong and sassy yet still human and vulnerable. The golden retriever cinnamon roll men aren’t bad to envision either. I thought Daddy Emmett was my number one, but oh, Jim Charley-boy, the man that you are… *swoon*

I appreciate that the characters are older than most other novels and more relatable to me personally. It’s refreshing to have more mature characters (30-40s). It was a welcomed change of pace from my usual romance reads and made the story a little more believable.

Mid-read note: Some literal LoLs with Jim and his food poisoning. Poor guy 😂

I LOVE the interconnected storylines with the other books so that we get little sprinkles of life updates on all the supporting characters. The character growth was A+++.

This book was definitely 5🌟 with the full series a solid 4🌟. Will definitely be a re-read for me at some point

I received this book as an ARC and these are my thoughts:

< Meg’s life is complicated. At her best friend’s wedding she spends the night with the success, handsome and flirty Dr. Jim Charlesbois. After Meg ghosts Jim, he is the last person she expects to be the on-call doctor, the night she rushes into the ER to meet her sister. Meg is determined to keep him at arms length, but how much longer will she be able to resist him and all the good things he brings into her life? >

This was a beautiful story. Anyone who’s had to make sacrifices for your loved ones and gone through loss, will be able to relate to the story. It’s a story about loss and grief (on different levels - of your dreams and of the people who die), but also of resilience and learning how to accept love and help.

Meg is a strong, determined woman, with a lot on her plate. She’s a nurse and an “aunt-mom” (she is her nephew’s guardian) and her family is her priority. She however, is not very good at accepting help, for fear of burdening others and believes she is somewhat difficult to love.

Jim, oh Dr. Jim! I loved Jim - where can I find a man like him?! He was loving and caring; patient and present (he also doubles as a handyman).

I loved Meg and Jim as a couple and the family they could be, together with Jackson (Meg’s nephew/son).

The found family aspect to the story was heartwarming and I loved the relationship Meg had with her best friends - Jenna and Lainey.

This was quite an emotional story but there were also funny and adorable parts - cue in Jackson and the girl gang moments! Have I mentioned it was also spicy?

I very much enjoyed Laura Beth’s writing style and will definitely go back and read books 1 & 2 in this series (Jenna and Lainey’s stories).

*Please remember to check TWs. Though it was a beautiful story, the themes of loss and grief could be overwhelming for some readers*

What to Expect:

- Single Guardian

- He Falls First

This book is so good! I was immediately pulled into the story and did not want to put it down. I loved Meg and Jim. Jim has been pinning for Meg for a long time, so when he got the chance to spend time with her, he jumped at the opportunity. They agreed to one night, but we all know how that goes. Does the perfect man exist? Yes. Its Jim. Everyone else can exit the stage. I don't think I've ever said "awww" and "omg, he is the best" so many times. Jim said all the right things and backed his words up with action. He is protective, kind, caring, incredibly patient, and was all in with Meg. Meg has a lot going on in her life, and I really felt for her. She is a natural caregiver and would do anything for the people she loves.

I loved how Jim gave her the space to make her own decisions, but also encouraged her to take breaks and time for herself. He tried his best to take some of the weight off her shoulders. Jim truly was the perfect man for her. Meg and Jim's love story was so beautiful, and I couldn't get enough. Jackson was so adorable, and I loved Jim's relationship with him. His stepping up and being there for Jackson made me love Jim even more. Then There Was You is an emotional roller coaster that had me laughing (the food poisoning scene, the t-ball game, Meg's mom), crying, and kicking my feet. The epilogues were so perfect! This book has a wonderful plot, great character development, amazing friendships, lots of heat, and some drama. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend the entire Grace General series.

I.can.not.with.this.book! It was everything! Jim has my whole a** heart, and that man is the epitome of kind, thoughtful, giving, loving, and any other word to describe an amazing human. I think I annotated quite a few times, "Is this man real?" Speaking of annotating, I'm pretty sure I highlighted the entire book! I couldn't get enough of Jim and
Megan's banter, their love, his words. And let's not forget the dang twist. Wow, I didn't see that coming. This book has the best of tropes, second chance romance, angst, slow burn, lots of spice, he falls first, single mom-ish. Check your triggers, though, some sensitive topics for sure.
I adored this book so much. It was my first book by Laura Beth, but best believe I'm reading all of her books now. This is the 3rd book in a series, but I read it as a standalone, and it was completely fine!

"But with them, their love wasn’t so much as convenience or compatibility as they are two souls literally fucking made for each other. It’s not something you see every day."
Chapter 2 page 18

“This will forever be my favorite song. It’s about love. Real fucking love. Not that type of love you think you know when you have your first crush, or when you’re fifteen and an older boy smiles at you in the hall. This is the type of love where you can still feel someone, even if they aren’t physically around. When your chest aches at the thought of life without them.”
Chapter 3 page 25

“I want to be there through baseball and junior high. I’ll be there through his gloomy teenage days and puberty, I can teach him to drive a stick shift and fix your plumbing. I’ll be there for college graduation if you’ll let me. Hell, I have to stick around just so I can show him how to pick up women.”
Chapter 11 page 126

“There isn’t a thing about you I’d ever change, Megan.” He lets go, resting both palms on the counter at my sides, letting his head hang between us, forehead resting near my collar bone. “I know you don’t need anyone. I don’t even think you want anyone, but God, do I want you.” He laughs, the action almost painful. “You could come with a blinking marquee sign, warning me that a single touch would kill me, and I’d still fight for a chance to kiss you. And with my last dying breath, poison burning through my veins, I’d likely beg you for one more.”

Arc review!

Laura Beth is so sweet, and I loved the second book in this series. Of course, I fell in love with Meg when she made her appearances there. She is this fiesty, takes no shit, and witty character. After some things happen between books (two years), things shifted for her. She’s taken on more responsibilities and guilt, and now she’s also raising her sister’s little boy. I was sad to see the personality that I fell in love with not present in this book. This book is more of a slow burn with a golden retriever doctor who’s been pining for her for years - she just hadn’t paid him any attention. My man, Jim, is truly a golden retriever - would do anything for her and Jax. The little things he does is so sweet and thoughtful. This is a ‘pull on your heartstrings’ kind of read mixed with a slowburn feel (despite the hookup scene at the beginning). Which, the time jumps took away from their story, in my opinion, but it’s something you can try to look past. This is definitely hard to read when you can understand the emotional and mental turmoil that Meg deals with, but seeing the supportive circle she has, it makes it light.

Tropes you’ll find: single guardian, doctor nurse romance, age gap, he falls first and harder, golden retriever MMC, black cat FMC

Micros: freckle kisses, backwards hat

Thank you, Laura Beth for this arc! 💕

This book made me cry like a baby. SEVERAL TIMES. So if you love crying and:

-Age gap
-Single mom
-Found Family
-Pinning MMC
-Doctor/Nurse
-Slow emotional burn 🔥

You should definitely. 100%. No doubts about it.
READ THIS BOOK!

Okay, so I read the other two books in the series recently and I had a great time. But THIS ONE is on another level. The author ended the series with a BANG and I am loving it.

This book was made for the acts of service girlies. James ( I refuse to call him Jim because that’s the only bad thing about this book💀🤷🏽‍♀️) it’s a DREAM. A BLOND, tall and handsome doctor who knows what he wants and doesn’t give up. He should be the original McDreamy if just as me. (I dislike Derrick Sheppard , sue me)

Anyways, the extra epilogue was hilarious and super sweet. I am honestly feeling bitter sweet because the ending was perfect but I am going to miss these characters and their world.

Thank you so much to Laura Beth for letting me be an ARC reader. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Meg and Jim have my heart in a way I didn't even know was possible. Right off the bat we're hit with spice, and then a slow burn that makes you forget is slow burning because you're so caught up in the story. Meg has had a rough go of life and a lifetime worth of responsibilities that shouldn't have even been an option at her age. I just kneww there was something about her that was going to draw us in, and oof did it draw!

Jim, Jim, Jim.... Jiiiiiiim James Charlie boy. My god was he a blonde boy redemption story or what?! He is the goldenest of all retrievers and essentially weaseled his way into Meg's life in a way that wasn't disrupting and that she ended up craving. Jim waits patiently on the sidelines for Meg to catch up to him, and their friendship truly paved the way for their relationship. And Jim showing up for Jax in all the ways he needed? Done. I'm on the floor, please mop up my bleeding heart!

Now, let's talk hard hitting emotions. With the amount of times I swooned, I also got teary eyed. There are so many amazing quotes in here that I think anyone who has lost someone in their life can relate to.

I’m never disappointed by Laura Beth! This is the third book in the Grace General series and my favorite so far!

I loved the banter between Jim and Meg from the start! The hotel scene after the wedding… wow. From the beginning you knew this was going to be good and it did not disappoint on any account. The plot and overall storyline were wonderful. The added twist towards the end really shook things up. A perfectly imperfect romance story!

Meg is incredibly selfless and so caring. She is working herself to the bone and making such huge sacrifices for her family. She has been hurt too many times, so now she feels like she has to do things on her own to protect herself and her heart… until she meets Jim. There’s an instant attraction between the two and their chemistry is palpable.

Everyone needs a Jim in their life; he is a man obsessed. The things he does for Meg are so incredibly sweet and thoughtful. Like, he fell for her before she he even realized he existed. Jim steps up and shows Meg how she deserves to be treated and what a healthy relationship looks like. The things he does for her… swoonworthy!

If you’re a fan of age gap, single guardian romances with complete golden retriever MMC and black cat FMC vibes then this the book for you! And, if you haven’t, make sure to read the other two books in the series to learn about the other couples at Grace General.

Thank you so so much Laura Beth for the ARC! Like always, the books you write make me laugh, cry, and feel incredibly deep emotions that linger long after I have finished.

I knew I was going to love Meg and Jim's story, but I wasn't expecting Meg's story to be so relatable.

Meg is a single guardian who has to work 3 jobs to keep up with bills and never takes a break. Jim is the definition of 'he falls first and harder', he's the guy who's loved Meg from the sidelines since the moment he laid eyes on her.

Meg is one of the strongest and most relatable female leads I've read so far. And I think that the fact that she is so relatable helps us see everything that we can achieve and that we all deserve the kind of love that Meg had. The way that Jim loved Meg was not only the way that she deserved but also the way she needed. Jim was there for her when she needed him the most. Even when she pushed him away, he would still show up not only for her but for her family as well.

This story was the perfect ending to the series, and the epilogues... God, those epilogues! The first one was absolutely beautiful and completely unexpected, and the second one was completely hilarious! I am so, so, so going to miss these girls. And I'm definitely starting a petition for a sports romance starting our favorite future Cub.

Quote: “I know you don’t need anyone. I don’t even think you want anyone, but God, do I want you. You could come with a blinking marquee sign, warning me that a single touch would kill me, and I’d still fight for a chance to kiss you. And with my last dying breath, poison burning through my veins, I’d likely beg you for one more.”

An emotionally gripping tale of carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders and finding the person…our person… who helps us carry the load. Meg and Jim’s story is so raw and real that at times it was uncomfortable for how close to home it can hit. If you enjoy having your heart ripped out and put together again, this story’s for you.

BOOK 3 in the Grace General series is my favorite. It was so good I read it in one day. Meg wears a hard shell of protection. She's got a lot on her shoulders and is hesitant to ask for help. With sole custody of her nephew, Jackson, and three jobs to barely break even and the hits keep coming.

I'm a sucker for a "he falls first" trope and Jim falls before Meg is even aware of his existence. He's not afraid to speak from his heart. Prepare to swoon and melt into a puddle. Jim forms a close relationship with Meg's nephew. He's determined to be there for both of them in any and every way.

The food poisoning scene is hilarious.

All the friends from the first two Grace General books are there for support, hugs, tears, and laughs.

Bonus epilogue for the win!

This one was my favorite not because they were my favorite couple tbh I love ALL of the couples, but because I got to see different sides of the couples and hear more about them in addition to Meg and Jim. I cried, I laughed, I blushed, and I gasped. This book trilogy had me in a chokehold, and I took too long, finishing this one because I didn't want to leave Grace General. I loved this trilogy so much!

My first book by Laura Beth and I 100% plan on going back to read the other books in this series (they are interconnected and can be read as standalones)!!! This book was absolutely incredible and both heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same time. Thank you Laura for the opportunity to read this ARC!!
Meg is an absolute force of a woman who sacrifices so much of her life for those she loves. Her relationship with her nephew Jackson is amazing and the way he bonded with Jim right away was adorable. Meg doesn't think she deserves to be loves but Jim is determined to show her otherwise. And Jim, Dr. Jim Charlebois, what a man he is. The epitome of a green flag and I fell in love with him. The way he's always there and always seems to know what Meg needs made me melt 🫠🥹 but when he's serious 🥵 oof and their banter was just 🤌🏻🤌🏻
And the friendship Meg has with Lainey and Jenna?? Hilarious, loving, and supprtive. Literally friendship GOALS!!!

Book is out August 26th, I highly recommend you go and read it!!! Please!!!!

4.5⭐️ 2.5🌶️ Meg + Jim 🫶🏼

First of all, thank you Laura Beth for this ARC!

I think the reason I’m obsessed with this series is because of the focus on the FMCs. Instead of 3 different love stories around 3 different couples, I feel like Laura envisioned 3 incredible women and best friends first and then created the absolutely perfect men that compliment them. Somehow this makes their story so much more special to me.

Jim is 100% the perfect golden retriever man that Meg needs in her life. Meg is an absolutely “firecracker” and I loved her so much. I’m personally not a golden retriever type of girl, so Jim wasn’t swoony for me, BUT he was the perfectly lovingly man and would literally walk through fire for Meg and I could see why he is so loved.

What a fun series and I’m so glad it ended with this couple, it was such a treat!

I absolutely love Laura Beth’s books—they always seem to come along just when I’m in a book slump! Every time I pick one up, I’m reminded why she’s one of my favorite authors. Her storytelling is an emotional journey, effortlessly moving me from tears to laughter. The way she captures the highs and lows of life feels so genuine and relatable.

What really stands out are her characters. They’re the kind of people you wish you knew in real life—imperfect but lovable, with struggles and joys that mirror your own. I often find myself rooting for them as if they were old friends. Laura Beth has a gift for making you care deeply about what happens to them, and by the end of the book, you feel like you’ve shared something special with them.

Whether it’s a rainy afternoon or a lazy weekend, her books are the perfect companions. They remind you of the beauty in everyday moments and the power of connection. I can’t wait to see what she writes next—I know it’ll be another heartwarming experience I won’t want to miss.

To start I read this in like 2 days around work and having a toddler.. that’s how good it was! Such a cute romance with just enough spice (2.5 🌶️)! This was an Arc read, and I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to read this book, off the read all the others in the series!

I love an independent FMC who learns to let someone in. This is the most he falls first and she doesn’t even know she has fallen, and it was done so well. There were lots of ups and downs but not between the couple and Jim is just the best, book husband material! He is wiling to be the friend, the support and her person (everything see needs) until she finally opens her eyes and see what she has! Love the friendship group (would have even take more) and the family (unconventional) and a man who loves a kiddo who needs all the love!

Laura Beth writes such swoon worthy characters. Jim is the sweetest golden retriever MMC and Meg is an independent, feisty FMC who will sacrifice anything for the ones she loves. The book starts off spicy, gets cooler throughout and doesn’t get another scene until almost the end. However, even without the spice on every page, I couldn’t put this down. The family and friend dynamics give this book so much more depth and the women in this series are squad goals. This story got a bit heavier and made me cry a few times. But there’s also a lightness in Jim’s character and Meg’s 6 year old nephew to balance it all out. It is an easy, quick read that will make you feel an array of emotions but leave you with a heart warming smile on your face.

Megan and Jim’s book was truly the best wrap up I needed for the Grace General Series. I related to Megan way more than I thought (I swore I was just like Jenna) but truly her fears and worries and insecurities have matched up with a lot of the same insecurities I have had. About being “too much” for a person and never wanting to ask for more help than you think people can offer.

The romance was impeccably done. I love how much patience Jim had with Megan and how much companionship he showed Jaxon. There was just enough girl gang to cure my sadness about this being the last book.

Truly Laura’s best book and it was so hard to top the first two but she did it absolutely flawlessly.

This book was so sweet and heartfelt. The story was also a tearjerker and swoon worthy. Jim and Megan have such an amazing relationship. From friends to lovers, you will root for the both of them all the way through. And Jackson! The sweet little nephew of Megan’s, will want you to hug him. I have a weakness for small town HEA, and Then There Was You did not disappoint :-)

Laura Beth has done it again! I absolutely adored everything about this book. The Grace General series will forever be one of my favorites! This group of friends and their beautiful love stories are some of the best.

From the start I was hooked from the flirty banter. And at the end I was in tears from the beautiful love Jim and Meg share.

Our sassy and stubborn Meg finds someone to share the burdens of life with. And learns that her emotions and trials aren’t weaknesses. And shouldering it alone is too much for one person to bear.
And the lovely Jim 😍 gah he’s absolute perfection. This man can do no wrong in my eyes. From how he interacts with Meg and her family. To how he just helps without being asked. He is the definition of one of the good ones!

And the epilogues were the BEST way for this series to end. The second one had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. It was the perfect representation of all of the wonderful Grace General FMCs. Wild and crazy Jenna, serious and patient Lainey, and sassy and angry Meg. I highly recommend starting with It Was Always You so you don’t miss a thing 🖤

I loved this book! The start of this story had me instantly pulled in! I loved Jim's cheesy pick up lines that he kept saying to get Meg's attention and I love no matter how much she didn’t want to laugh or smile at them she did!

Meg and Jim had so much chemistry between them. While it takes Meg longer to let Jim in, I loved how he never gave up and was always there for her and Jackson.

Meg is a single guardian to her sister’s son. She has a lot on her plate working 3 jobs to help support herself, Jackson and her sisters nursing care. Meg allows herself one night for herself and she spends that night with Jim but she doesn’t expect to run into him 8 months later and for him to see/witness all of her vulnerability.

Jim..oh this man is a Doctor, works hard and is always there for his friends and those he holds close to him. Jim fell hard for Meg before she ever even realized or looked at him.

Let me tell you Jim is book *Husband* material! The way this man goes about working his schedule so he can attend Jackson's softball games is everything! No matter how much Meg put him into the “friend” zone Jim still showed up and showed her how much he cared with his actions. When Meg finally let him in their relationship was beautiful and everything you would expect it to be. I also can appreciate that during the third act Meg admits she is wrong and does apologize but I also appreciate how Jim didn’t let that one issue push them apart and he still.showed.up for her!!

If you are a fan of medical drama shows you need to read this series! It is so good and I have loved all the couples!

Thank you Laura for the ARC of this book.

Meg and Jim have an unforgettable hook up following the wedding of their mutual besties. Jim very much would like to date Meg, but this poor woman has been through the wringer with capital-T Trauma in her life, including becoming the guardian of her nephew following a tragic accident that left her sister in a near-vegetative state. Meg is burning herself out trying to keep all the plates spinning. Accepting the friend zone, sweet sweet Jim makes himself a consistent and unwavering support system in her life. After a while of unending compassion, love, and effort, neither of them can deny that they are meant to do life together.

This book was devastating and heartwarming all at once. Meg and Jim were such a beautiful couple. You know I love books with grown ass adults who have been through it, and these two were. The unwavering care they showed each other was so profound. While I found this book to have some narrative and pacing hiccups, the deep love I felt for both Meg and Jim afforded some grace. This was a lovely quick read after the disappointment I felt after my last read.

🫡 Tropes deployed: ONS to friends to lovers, single mom, he falls first and harder, complex family dynamics, foster/adoption

This is a wonderful book, a lovely book, and SWEET and BEAUTIFUL book. I love Laura’s writing style, love this character development. You get a troubled but surviving main character, flawed and lovable but too busy to focus on herself (relatable, huh?). Enter Jim, the perfect man. He’s kind, sweet, gorgeous, funny, and HAVE I MENTIONED HES HAD IT BAD FOR HER SINCE THEY MET YEARS AGO??? Omg I love him. I LOVE her, they’re a beautiful couple and their relationship is sweet and steamy. I loved the ending, with some absolutely PERFECT epilogues. HIGHLY recommend for a lovely little fun and sweet read with some REAL steam.

Okay, buckle up, because I wrote an essay about my love for this book.

There’s something to be said about medical romance written by nurses. We know the ins and outs of a broken system, and we’re just trying to spread awareness in a way that makes sense to non-medical folk. Laura did such a beautiful job of bringing huge issues with the system to light in this book without being pushy, and that’s first and foremost one of my favorite things about it. I wish everyone had a Jim in their life to help them navigate the system.

Now, onto Megan, my beloved, amazing, sweet souled Megan. I relate to her so deeply, and a lot of my struggles were mirrored directly on page with her. It was a little hard to read, but seeing her fall for Jim healed me in a way. It was beautiful to read. She found strength in herself, in Jackson and her family, and in Jim. I love that this wasn’t just Jim coming in and “fixing” her, but Meg finding her inner worth in herself. I love the glimpses of her relationship with her family that show why she is the way she is. She’s such a natural caregiver, and that makes her an incredible nurse, mom, sister, and partner. Meg is a dynamic and lovable character, and she is easily one of my favorite characters of all time.

Okay okay. On to my complete and utter obsession with James Charlebois. Here are some of my absolute favorite things this man said.

“You could come with a blinking marquee sign, warning me that a single touch would kill me, and I’d still fight for a chance to kiss you. And with my last dying breath, poison burning through my veins, I’d likely beg you for one more.”

“I want to be there through baseball and junior high. I’ll be there through his gloomy teenage days and puberty, I can teach him to drive a stick shift and fix your plumbing. I’ll be there for college graduation if you’ll let me.”

“You oughta know by now that I’ve been in love with you for so long. Since the moment I laid eyes on you, I’ve been trying everything to get your attention. I was fine settling for little scraps you’d toss my way. Ravenous for any minute I got to spend with you. So when you finally gave me my chance, I knew that it was it for me. I had been with my dream girl, and I knew it wasn’t even worth trying to move on because I would have never been able to get that feeling with anyone else.”

You can’t convince me that there is a single character in any book ever that is better than James. Freaking. Charlebois. I’m waiting….. this man took one look at Meg and said “Mine.” And not in a dark romance, stalker way. No, no. In a “I’m completely in love with her and I WILL get her one day” way. And then he did. He stuck around through the hard stuff and showed her she WAS worth the love she didn’t think she deserved. And his love for Jackson? Absolutely to die for. Their relationship melted my heart every single time we saw them together. Every single woman out there deserves a Jim, and he is my favorite character in a book, probably ever.

This book is captivating, hilarious, heartbreaking, and brilliantly written. I don’t have enough good things to say. It’s my top book of the year, hands down. Absolutely hit it out of the park, Laura!
