Trapped inside southern Germany, Monika Ritter goes to the one person she can trust—her cousin, Sarah Graf, a woman scarred by her opposition to the Nazis. Despite taking refuge in Sarah’s house, Monika is determined to fulfill her mission and meet a potentially invaluable asset in the intelligence war against the Nazis, a man who could change the face of the entire war. After a daring mission to meet the new contact, Monika must escape Hitler’s Reich in the only way she can, over the alpine mountain ranges that separate Germany from Austria and Switzerland. But even if she makes it all the way back to her new home in Bern, her mission is far from over….
Michael Ritter returns to combat with his bomber squadron but is soon offered a new opportunity to fly secret missions with a fledgling group in neutral Switzerland. After he and his new group are called in to take on a rescue mission no one has ever attempted before, Michael will get the reunion with his wife that he has been dreaming about, but in a way he never could have imagined.
THE COURIER is the third novel in a new series by the #1 Amazon bestselling author of WHITE ROSE, BLACK FOREST, and THE MAUREEN RITTER SERIES. Download it and discover Eoin Dempsey’s books today.
Eoin Dempsey was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1977. He grew up in the beautiful Dublin suburb of Dalkey, where he and his friends would jump into the icy waters of the Irish Sea (during summertime) to prove their manliness. Eoin had a fantastic time attending Blackrock College, where he played rugby (poorly) and did his best to coast his way through. Eoin’s first ambition was to play rugby for Ireland. Due to a lack of talent, he soon abandoned that goal for the more reasoned path of the rock star. He played in bands through his teens and well into his twenties before harsh reality came calling, and his dreams of being the next Keith Moon faded.
Eoin made the ill-reasoned decision to study business in university and was accepted into University College Dublin to study Commerce in 1995. While Eoin did attend college, studying wasn’t his priority there.
He met his beautiful wife, Jill, while traveling to the USA in 1997, though it would be several years before he managed to break her down and they got together as a couple. It was during Eoin’s second stint in the USA, which he spent with his brother in New York City, that he decided to start writing a novel, for the express purpose of impressing women. This effort was met with mixed success. Eoin finished his first novel a year later. The over hundred and fifty rejections he received from publishers didn’t discourage him. He pinned them to his wall. After spending a year in Australia, where he was fired from many jobs, including picking red and green peppers and toiling for scallops miles out to sea on a fishing trawler, he returned home and decided to write again. Another novel followed while he phoned it in at a number of jobs in financial services in Dublin.
By this time Eoin had managed to convince Jill, the girl he’d met in the USA years before to move over to Dublin. She did so in 2004. It was the best negotiation he ever undertook. They were married in 2007. Jill’s more brilliant negotiating skills led Eoin to move to her hometown of Philadelphia in 2008, just in time for the economy to collapse. The plan to live with her parents for a few weeks turned into eighteen months, as Eoin struggled to retain employment in a fractured economy. It was during this time that he wrote FINDING REBECCA, which would go on to be his first published novel and be translated into fourteen different languages.
Eoin and Jill have three beautiful sons, Robbie, who was born in 2015, Sam, born in 2017, and Jack who came in 2019. Eoin enjoys playing with them and marveling at how much more talented they are at the sports that he loves, particularly golf.
The third book of this series finds Monika going to Germany to see about recruiting a very high ranking Nazi officer for the OSS. However, Mr. March, a Nazi diplomat who is suppose to introduce Monika to the officer, is taken into custody by the Gestapo. This leaves Monika alone in Germany with no back-up, no belongings, and no money while trying to keep out of the custody of the Gestapo. With no place else to go, she decides to see if her aunt and uncle will help her. She finds her aunt and uncle are hard Nazis. In fact her uncle is a to member of the Nazi Gestapo. She finds her aunt and uncle in town and her cousin, Sarah, living by herself on their farm. She had been involved with the White Rose organization when the leader were beheaded and the other members punished in some way. Sarah's father saw that she was sent to Dachau for thirteen months, then due to her Mother's prodding, he negotiated a way to get her out of Dachau. All she had to do was sign a statement that was posted in the newspaper that she denounced the group and denigates them. Her friends see her as a traitor to them and shun her, so she spends all her time at the farm. Her spirit is broken. Monika needs her help to get Monika back to Switzerland. As Sarah helps her friend, she helps herself too.
A brilliant read about those who risked their lives in World War 2 to stop the atrocities, the killing, and taking away the freedom of those who lived in Germany who were against Hitler, and his Nazi Party. So well written, I couldn't put these books down... I read the first 3 books in the Moniker Ritter series in a week. The last Book 4 is due out in 3 months? I hope I can find more books by Eoin Dempsey to read. A brilliant Author who kept me enthralled and on my toes. A+++
This third book is another nail-biter as we continue to shadow Monika and Michael Ritter as they battle the Nazis, separately. Monika's activities in Germany were so intense that I thought I might need to take extra blood pressure meds. That said, Monika is the person I would want on my side when the stuff hits the fan because she's so tenacious. This story only takes us into 1943, after Stalingrad but before Kursk, so Eoin Dempsey owes us at least one more book, thank goodness. It's a terrific series that continues to get better and better.
Bravo! Another winner from Eoin Dempsey! I've been critical in the past about his not being the best at writing from a woman's standpoint but he is much improved. Great and exciting story!!!! Can't wait for the next one!
I truly love the writing of this author. His characters are so real that I feel like I know them. There is always an unexpected catastrophe and the uncertainty of what will happen... just like true life.
In the prior book Michael and his wife Monika were based in Europe during WW II working for the Americans. Monika, based out of Switzerland goes into Germany to make contact with a German officer who can give intelligence to the Allies. Michael returns to flying mission to bomb Hamburg Germany from England air base. Eventually Michael is repositioned to Switzerland under Army air force and reunited with Monika..
The story that unfolds is riveting and quick paced. This is an action-packed historical novel about WW II, and a page turner from the beginning. It is a gripping story of the two main character’s roles at the height of the war and the missions they undertake on behalf of the allies under the American command.
The author’s power to make the lives of these characters seem historically real is incredible.
It is written as a continuance of the prior stories about these characters, and it does help to read Eoin’s prior books that introduced these characters.
While this book can stand as a read alone book, I recommend reading all Eoin’s prior books on the Ritter family as they are terrific.
Eoin has written a great epic series on the Ritter family prior to this book. This book is beyond any of my expectations!
I have read all of Eoin’s books on WW II, and others about Northern Ireland, including his mystery novel.
He has a terrific craft at writing in an absorbing manner, and makes you feel that you have met the characters he has created.
Think back to World War II, the deadliest war in history. It’s 1943, and the war is in full phrenzy. There’s an unassuming handful of people that have the opportunity to help bring an end to this horrific and devastating war. Who were they? Best-selling author, Eoin Dempsey, continues his series with the experiences of courageous freedom fighters throughout Europe. Among them are a husband and wife, both serving their country. Our heroine is an American courier, a lifeline for pertinent information delivered with the purpose of resilience. This novel boasts fast-moving action from beginning to end. The plot shifts focus from character to character with an abundance of suspense. The reader witnesses the fear and horror of the courier who is held captive for spreading pamphlets that could halt the glorious future of the Reich. Here, the author paints a vivid picture of the mental and physical torture endured by the courier, leaving one to consider the fate of death over future torture and imprisonment in a camp. This historical fiction highlights the courage and integrity of a few of the many brave individuals who pathed a way for the war to end. Thanks are extended to the author and BookFunnel for an advance review copy
I absolutely love the WW2 family saga of the Ritter family, which starts during the 1930’s in Berlin, covering the rise of the Nazi party and has several spinoff series for each of the older children in the family covering the war years. Eoin Dempsey is one of my favorite historical fiction writers and I love how each installment in this series is just the perfect length and keeps me on the edge of my seat.
In THE COURIER, Monika Ritter has become trapped in Germany after a mission to meet with a potential agent goes wrong. She makes contact with her cousin, who worked with members of the White Rose group and was sent to Dachau and is not doing well after her release. Now she has to find a way to make contact with the person she was supposed to meet, and get out of Germany before the Nazis catch up with her. Her husband Michael is a pilot flying bombers over Europe who has recently returned to duty after being downed behind enemy lines. Now he may have an unusual mission ahead. This was one of my favorite installments of the series yet and I can’t wait to see what comes next! 5/5 stars.
I had been waiting for this sequel to come out and it did yesterday - read it all today and wow what an exciting read! Monica has escaped from her Nazi pursuers and is hiding with her cousin Sarah in Ulm, Germany. She has been tasked to find a Nazi willing to turn in vital information to the Allies. Once she does she must escape across the border to Switzerland. Action packed and I just couldn’t put it down! I will have a hard time waiting for book 4 to come out!
This is a suberb story. The characters were wonderful and made me feel I was right there with them. All the things these wonderful people did and those like them who were fearless I think shortered that terrible war. I highly recommend this book/series. I have read all of Eoin books and they are well written and researched. He is a master storyteller. Can't wait for next book in series.
Absolute exciting read! Intertwines dynamic WWII activities of Monika and husband Michael in seemingly real life, nail-biting adventures. Many resident Germans risked their lives in roles resisting the Nazis. Who can be trusted? WWII comes alive through their lives. The Ritters are seemingly real people who could be our family.
Eoin Dempsey authors historical novels which are real page turners. I wish he was my history teacher in school!
This installment of the Monika Ritter adventures was much more exciting ! Both Michael and Monika had assignments that took them into extreme but believable danger.
This series captured me from the first book. The historical references are excellent and the parallels to today’s world are tremendously important! Waiting for the audio versions of book 5+6…. I llke to switch from reading to listening… Thank you Mr. Dempsey
This was a very good read. My only niggle was to do with some of the dialogue; it felt a bit stilted at times, and it wasn't always easy to work out who was saying what. The rescue mission at the end felt a bit farfetched.
The book was a bite slow so took me a lot longer to read. The over all book was good, the characters were well developed. I recommend it as it is part of a series.
I received an ARC of this book. Eoin has done it again. Wonderful sequel, or stand alone (although I can't imagine why you wouldn't read the others in the series) story of the heroes and heroines of WW 2. The history that he brings to those of us that don't know the details from those times is amazing. His characters are very well developed, and have become real through his ability to tell a story that makes people, time, and place come alive. I can't wait for his next book!
This is the 3rd book in Monika and Michael’s series, and it picks up where the 2nd book ended – with Monika at her cousin Sarah’s home in Ulm. Sarah was involved with the White Rose network and spent time in a concentration camp until her father, a Nazi, pulled some strings to get her out because her mother wanted him to do it. Monika is trying to reach a German who may have important information that could change the course of the war. A childhood friend of Sarah and Monika, Oliver, is a disillusioned German soldier. Although this is a work of fiction, this type of bravery existed and it is hard to imagine the danger these young people put themselves in to fight against the evil of Hitler. This book does wrap up what was started in The Wounded and the Lost. It also sets the scene for another book as Monika and Michael both continue their work for the Allies.
Book 3 THE COURIER in Monica Ritter Series by Eoin Dempsey. Another excellent book in this WWII historical fiction collection. I have read them all and guarantee that you will find them captivating. The research he does and the pictures he paints with his words bring the fear that people lived with during this terrible period of time. Germany suffered under the lies told by his leaders. Fortunately, the Allies came to their aid.
I have read all Eoins books and ARC for him so am very fortunate to get all the books rally. He makes you care about the Characters and want to continue finding out what happens next, I cannot recommend his books enough
