First of all, what an honor to own a copy of this limited edition gorefest of mindfuckery! It's a cute little pocketbook, cute in that it's small, nothing else about it is cute, except maybe the dog 😉 (IYKYK), and it kicks off with probably one of the best opening lines ever! (No, I'm not gonna tell you, go read it for yourself!)
A tale of survival, determination, abuse and of fate. Told from the MC’s POV, over a period of several years, this was truly gripping. Disturbing for sure, with some darkly humorous moments and Beauregards trademark gag worthy scenes! I've described a lot of books that I have read as being like acid trips or nightmarish fever dreams, and this one is literally that, and so much more!! It chilled me to my very core, and it reminds you to never be too complacent, be happy with your lot, you never know when it may be taken from you, and your desperation to get it back may make you do some strange and bad things.
What might have happened to any of us if we had made different choices down the line, if fate had, or hadn't, intervened? Expect the unexpected, and you still won't be prepared! But make the right choice and read this book!
15 year old Harvey, on the run after leaving the children's home where he endured regular abuse, is trying to survive any way he can. Living on the streets is tough, with only a pop icon to look up to, to give him a little bit of hope and determination, and an acquaintance called Donya. As a temporary way out of this depressing lifestyle, he and Donya go on a little ‘vacation’, one brought on by stolen drugs, an hallucinogenic trip that changes everything. They want out, to better themselves, but it's always so much easier to just keep doing what they do. So, with nothing else to lose, they decide to go ‘all-inclusive’ on this particular vacation.
That's precisely when things get insanely, terrifyingly messed up. Nightmarish traumas are re-lived, sinister signs are shown and they return with a new sense of purpose. Fate has something in store for them, something preordained, something that feels to Harvey like a revelation, a reason for his being. It's too much for Donya though, and he finds himself alone now, just him and his visions of The Dark Man….
His thoughts keep returning to his trip, the things he saw there, and what he feels he now needs to do. Until circumstance finally gives him the kick he needs to get motivated and act on those memories, reinforcing his belief that his path in life is already laid out before him.
Plagued by premonitions and strange coincidences, he sets out to follow his true path, and quickly finds out that its one hell of a fucked-up, twisted route towards his decline in sanity. The Dark Man has big plans for him, massive plans, that will involve a lot of people and a lot of horrific, life changing experiences. But first, he's got to make some money….
One hell of an unexpected twist made me shout WTF out loud! Doggone it, I never expected that!! 😲
I also loved the equally eye-watering and eye-catching illustrations that are always a great added bonus to any of Arons books!! 🖤

I can't seem to find the right words to describe it. But everything Aron writes, is a masterpiece.

This pocket atrocities novella truly packs a punch. In true Aron form, we get the depraved brutality and bloody gore we expect from his writing. From the dog show to the necrophilia to dropping sheets of acid, we go on quite the illicit journey with Harvey Sutton.

I’m reading this on the train and sitting across the table from me in the cafe car are two girls that clearly are in their first year at Princeton. They’re talking about how they are going to save the world and I’m over here covering drawings of mutilated genitalia and death. 😆
Anyways…. What really got me about this read is the very real message of how the slightest choice in life can have you barreling down a path you can no longer control. Or can you? Just how much authority do you have over your own destiny? It’s a thinker and I loved it.
Also, please make sure you read the intro by Shane McKenzie and the afterword by Aron.

This was a heartfelt and uplifting novella about one man's struggle with homelessness. Just kidding! This was gruesome and disturbed and aptly named as "pocket atrocities". The sheer bad luck of the main character and the descriptive gore and violence made this hard to put down and hard to read. For such a short read it definitely packed a punch.

A brutal, unflinching tale of a man on a path with fate. I really enjoyed this one, it was brutal, violent, and everything you expect from AB, while also being different than much of his other stuff. Definitely recommend.

Now I usually love Aron Beauregard’s books but this one just wasn’t really for me and that’s okay.
I guess it’s my own fault for not reading the blurb as I would have noticed it has some elements I’m not a massive fan of in books and some slurs that weren’t necessary at all really
I will say like all of Aron Beauregard’s books there’s short chapters and great art work throughout!
In this one we follow Harvey Sutton as he embarks on a life of crime by no choice of his own.
Some of the events which occur in this book did shock me and there are definitely elements of this book that I love.
If you’re into extreme horror where you’re left not really knowing what you just read then I’d recommend you pick this up and give it a try

First book I've read from Aron! And I'm kind of in a mix on how I feel about this book. Like, his writing is very palatable and easy to understand, but I kind of don't see the whole point as he intended. The whole story is about who's actually doing the crime or is the crime doing you type of thing. And I get that, but even with the whole reveal of "it's you who's controlling it," they just still commit the crimes they were foretold in the beginning? Like, I don't understand the point where they're coming to terms with the vision and just saying, “Fuck all dude! let's just go on a cruise ship and murder people lol”.

This is the first book to actually make me gag. I was listening to it while walking around my house doing chores, and then that scene with the dead body…and the ants that came out of it…if you know you know. I gagged so much I ran to the bathroom while the scene finished up.
This novella is just about as splatterpunk you can get, with all of the classic Beauregard-isms I truly love. The ending was cliched but it was satisfying. Highly recommend to any extreme horror fans!

Call me a cheater, but I listened to this while I did other things. Mostly work. Totally a worthy distraction from my office.
I loved this book. it's a quick read (listen in this case), it's raw, intoxicating, and thought provoking. At the end of the book the reader is asked if we choose our paths or if Fate does.
This is after an onslaught of a story about a guy dealt more than a bad hand in life. Choosing a life of substance abuse and crime we follow Harvey as he accounts his life up until his last moments with his unofficial life partner. I was mesmerized and often backed up to double check I heard correctly.
Twisty and turny, highlighted in the grimey bleak backdrop of life on the streets, Harvey's words made me grateful for my world of opportunity and hope, but left me wanting a shower and a hot meal every time I hit pause and I was there for it. However, what really sold my love of this tale is the narrator, Chuck Burgee.
This whole review has circled in my head in his voice. Chuck understood this assignment and deserves accolades. He truly was Harvey. His performance alone sells this book, but the combination of Beauregard's story telling and Burgee's interpretation makes this worth many relistens.

This story was an absolute trip. The elements of shock horror are ever present alongside a very human internal monologue that contemplates what it all means. I loved how Harvey explored the idea of fate throughout the book as time went on and that the answer ultimately remained slightly ambiguous depending on what one would choose to believe about his situation. The elements of weirdness ramped up with each new chapter, and I was hanging on every word, intrigued to see what would happen next. I also really liked the relationship between Harvey and Donya and that they ultimately stuck together in the end, no matter how twisted things ended up. Again and again, Mr. Beauregard does not disappoint!

I read this book in just a few hours. I follow Beauregard on TikTok and I’ve been wanting to read something by him for the longest time. This wasn’t the first “splatter punk” book I had read (I think that’s what the genre is called 😬) so I wasn’t really shocked or totally disgusted at certain parts. It was a short read but I really appreciate his writing style. The ending where Beauregard himself explains how the book came about and his thought process while writing it was as good as the actual book, IMO.

As with everything Aron writes, this one also pulled no punches. We follow a man named Harvey as his life seems to take twists and turns as the outcome of one crime leads into the act of the next crime. It kept me guessing on what would happen next to him and with each crime(story) I was blown away with what happened in each crime he committed. I couldn't put the book down because I had to know what was going to happen next.

Another solid read from AB. I loved how each chapter revolves around a crime that the MC commits, usually just to ensure he is able to live to see another day. The middle of the book went off the rails, in the best way possible. There were multiple times I asked myself, “what the fuck am I reading” but I couldn’t stop. Highly recommend, especially if you are an AB fan, but this is honestly a perfect book to get introduced to the author if you haven’t dipped your toes into his world yet.

Pretty decent story with themes of fate/destiny among others. As an extreme horror book it lives up to the reputation with plenty of gory violence and plenty of SA. Thankfully this one also limits some of the absurdist over the top versions gore/SA that is common in newer extreme horror which keeps the story flowing well

Well that was a awesome brutal gory crazy read that I finished in one sitting. This story is an example of how the choices we make, the things we decide to do, and the people we associate with shapes the path and the experiences good and bad that we deal with in life. This is a awesome fuckin story and I highly recommend reading this and everything Aron Beauregard writes.

Aron has done it again. Such a good read. 👏🏻 this book follows Harvey through his life of crime, each chapter a different story in his crazy world leading to one big ending. I particularly love the ending where Aaron shares some truths about himself and choices that he has made along the way to get him where he is now. Now only an amazing book, but followed by an important message.

I am the first to admit I’m a pretentious asshole and the fact that I really didn’t enjoy reading this book means the author completely succeeded at what he set out to do. He clearly has something to say even if I hate the way he said it. I met him IRL and think he’s very nice and now I have a signed copy of this book and I’ll treasure it forever

A quick jaunt through the life of a loon that is going down the rabbit hole of insanity. Like, wow! Loved it so much.
The MC was crazy, that is for sure, but it was interesting watching his descent into the sinister lifestyle of a criminal.
The story is fast paced and doesn’t let go.

Despite its short length, I was completely captivated from start to finish. Aron has a talent for providing vivid imagery that keeps me entertained throughout. The story is full of unexpected twists and turns, and the main character is both likable, but insanely flawed. Filled with graphic violence and sinful indulgences, A Life of Crime was one hell of a wild ride.
