The runner is never explained. Anyone can choose to live inside Haven... Or not, so how could someone so close (nearby) to Haven be classified as a "runner"?
And why would they kill the runner, before interrogating them to find the cause if their running?
Granted though that the guy sounded like he needed killing, because who needs a Vampire who thinks raping random women is an ok thing to do.
I fear that this runner situation is a major plot hole. I nearly threw the book down, quite a number of times, in disgust that the very premise for initiating contact with the vampires is completely undermined 5 ways from Sunday, throughout the story.
Michael, I'm pretty sure that I've never rated one of your stories at less than 5 stars before. Make it make sense!.
Suddenly I hear Aladdin and Jasmine singing….NOT what I had in mind for this review…. **** sigh***
So it goes practically without saying that Michael Anderle is a first-class, top of the line, artist when it comes to world building. Nor is he a slouch when it comes to plot, characterization and dialogue… In short, he’s very much a master of this craft we call writing, and all of those talents are on full display with this particular offering.
We are introduced to this world in a pell-mell fashion as events unfold around us. It practically leaves the reader breathless as one struggles to assimilate the many layers of meaning and subtext all whilst struggling to wrap one’s mind around what’s actually
Another day lost in a book. When I read a good book that drags me through the story at an ever increasing pace I often skip the mundane sections that describe the sunset or colour of the curtains, etc., in order to get to the next exciting 'action' bit of the story. This new twist on vampires had me devouring almost every word with so few skips it ate pretty much my entire Saturday with its captivating story. If only I had not found the book so soon after publication I might have had less time to wait for the next chapter of this captivating tale.
Elana is minding her own business, heading to her next job, when everything changes. So starts her journey into a world she has dreamed about, and finds out a dream coming true isn't always what you thought it would be. This first book in the series is a lot of world and character building, and it definitely keeps your interest along with the action and the humor. I cannot wait for the next book to see what happens.
Elana learns she's been a vampire her whole life. She just thought she was very healthy and exceptionally strong. Now she's being invited into vampire culture and a murder mystery.
Liked the characters, especially Elana. Intrigued by the authors take on vampire culture and how it relates to normal humans culture. Great worldbuilding. The story drew me in. Disappointed in the cliffhanger. BUT, I'll be getting next in series.
I thought this book was an interesting twist on vampires. Apparently, in this book, vampires are not the blood sucking night dwelling creatures that they are in other books. I did like the FMC unfortunately for her, she found out she was a vampire as well and didn’t even know it. Now her life is turned upside down and somebody’s trying to kill her. I will read the next book in the series.
A sassy heroine, who has fears, worries and human life problems to deal with. So relatable. A plot that's involved, twisting, lots of humour, hints of romance and so typically Michael. As always, well crafted and thought out, keeps me engrossed when I should be sleeping - I blame the author for all my bad Moody's - and stops me doing chores. I can't wait to start the next book.
A young woman hits a vampire with her truck and causes a chain of events she could not possibly have foreseen. This is a story that is extremely complicated about entering the world that you do not understand. Also, to try to navigate being who you are versus who you will someday be. I really enjoyed it and I will definitely read the next book of the series.
I'd forgotten how addictive MR Anderle's books are and not to start reading on a work night. Building a different society of vampires and humans, with the intrigue of G O T. Couldn't stop had to read one more chapter. And then before you know it you have finished at 2.30 in the morning.
New series based on the main character (Lana) learning her life up to then was not all truth. She had more to learn about herself, her mother, and the lifestyles of vampires. Totally new take on the vampire regime makes this one interesting. Focused on mystery and intrigue with plenty of world building. Nice new start to a series.
What a fresh, exciting story plot! All of the characters and their adventures grab your interest from page 1 and never let go. As expected from Mr Anderle, the writing is gifted. You’re quickly caught up into the MC’s saga and feel as though you’ve walked through the Haven gates. Totally looking forward to book 2!
This book is a fantastic start to an unbelievable series. Elana is an amazing character. This book is filled with intrigue, action, suspense and everything you could possibly need in a great book. I must say, I love Michael Anderle’s books. He is such a phenomenal storyteller!!
I like the story so far. Very fast paced.im looking forward to the next installment. Its interesting to see people from another point of view. There's always going to be prejudice ,jealousy, and greed, and alot of times., Murder . Looking forward to the mystery unfolding.
Definitely like the way that things are going. The mix of adventure along with the side of the mystery equals a very good read. You draw in the story and be for you know it . Hours later you realize that you have spent a day reading.
So series may take a second book to real me in. This one was fantastic from start to finish. Love that it wasn't ended in a cliffhanger but leaving me wanting more of this story. Well done Mr. Anderle
Not what I was expecting but in some ways better. More mystery than mayhem. The MFC is confused about the changes in her life and the reader is right there with her trying to figure things out. Glad the next book comes out in the next couple weeks. I'll be waiting.
I had thought (erroneously it seems) that the vampire thing had been done to death but you have proven me wrong once again. I now have yet another universe of your making to go through.
I loved the world building and idea behind this book. It does not disappoint with enough realism to make it a really great story. I like how your getting the story from the heroine point of view.
Fast paced and engaging! Elana Bishop, stronger and faster than the average human? With a brain to match. Its the human part that's in question until she hits a Vampire on the way home from work one night!
Always a treat to read a story that has a strong Women with depth and a willingness to learn and fight for her place in the hierarchy. Love the storyline, very twisty and full of surprises. I am invested in this character.!!!!
I have no idea how he does it. Another vampire series and an entirely different way to look at them. Not Bethany Ann. I loved the opening book and look forward to all of the additions to come.
DNF realized the story was 4 books Long and decided it wasn’t enjoyable enough for Me for 4 books and I didn’t care what happened to FMC in even book 1
