Boston Kelly is a married man who thought divorce was never a way out. He's committed to making his marriage work no matter the circumstances. What happens when the wife he has done everything for betrays him?
Nikki McCorvey is engaged to be married to the love of her life. Or so she thinks. When Nikki is betrayed by her man she rushes to the one place where she knows she'll find peace.
Crushes are sometimes stubborn. However, once the door is open, all bets are off.
This is a safe space right?!!! I can come to y’all and unburden my truth without being judged right?!!! Clears throat. Ahem! 🗣️ I love toxic men and I’m not ashamed to say it. 🫣🫣🫣🫣 If he ain’t toxic, don’t even introduce him to me. Not only do I like my men toxic but, apparently, I like them toxic and, a little unhinged as well and Boston Maurice Kelly is the total package. Boston doesn’t do a lot of talking. He’s quiet, rude, surly, and a little bit uncouth when you push him. He, too, has those hands and don’t mind stompin’ a ninja out to get his point across. Shayna found out the hard way just how unhinged her husband was when she got caught creepin’.
Nikki was devastated to find out someone she called a “friend” betrayed her not once but, twice. Overwhelmed and hurt, she runs to the one person who makes her feel safe. Nikki and Boston have been crushin’ on each other for years but, due to actions on his part, they couldn’t seem to get it right and time kept them apart. Shayna’s infidelity was the gift Boston needed to finally get his woman. He just has to convince Nikki to take a chance on him. These two were like oil and water but, they balanced each other out perfectly. Nikki ignores Boston’s unhinged behavior and Boston caters to Nikki’s every need. “You not only gon’ put up with me, you gon’ love that shit. Tell me we not a couple again, and I’ma duct tape ya p*ssy lips together.” 😏😏😏😏 ‘Just an hour ago, I was ready to risk it all for him. Now, I wouldn’t risk a dollar for his uncouth azz.’ LOL!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 This series was entertaining and, I thoroughly enjoyed both books. The love between these characters was demonstrated so beautifully and it will leave you wanting more.
Thank you, M Monique, for not making us wait too long for this conclusion, cause I was hot after book 1. 😡 Alright Boston stand on business! Just waltzed into the spot like he owned it and commenced to whoop Eddie's ass! 😂 Nikki like what the hell is going on. For Boston to act like that meant it was really bad. When it was revealed to her, she was devastated.
Ahhhh... now it makes sense why Boston and Shayna got married. That was commendable bruh, but you ain't have to marry her tho. Especially when you heart loved another. Him feeling Nikki surprised me, but I liked that look much better.
Nikki was sad that her so called friend burned her twice, but was also relieved, as she didn't want Eddie anyway. She was settling, and now she has the chance to get her man.
Boston was not playin' about his woman and was off the rails when he believed someone was trying to harm her. She was his everything, and now that he has the opportunity to have her, nothing would stand in his way.
I enjoyed the read, but still wondered why Shayna and Eddie were together. 👀🤯 Was there a motive? How long had they been creepin'? What did Mika have to do with any of this? That bonus scene..... will there be more to the story now? Cause I need to know about this Boris character.
What a finale lol! Let me say this, this isn't too deep of a story but some drama-filled fun and get back! Nikki and Boston didn't waste a second once their chains to other people were cut! Lol and Shayna?!? That last scene omg she is the worst and for everybody! I loved Memphis and Poppi and the bonus short at the end was the perfect touch to this drama-filled novella lol! This was fun!
Now this book has my attention from the being til the end. Loved Nikki and Boston together just as much as Memphis and Poppi. Boston and Nikki were soulmates who settled for partners they didn’t love. They finally were able to be together after loving each other for years.
That man is crazy, funny and toxic and i loved it. He is a straight up fool but in the best way. Him and Memphis really don’t play about their families and women. Standing on business all the way around is so sexy. All I’ll say is towards the end the bedroom scene. If you read this book you’ll know. It couldn’t have been me. Oh yea the birthday card scene had me laughing. Yall Boston is chefs kiss. Those security guards were catching hell LOL.
I really enjoyed these four. Nikki finally got the right one and Poppi is still my girl. She plays no games either. The bonus story was a nice way to wrap the series up. Please read if you haven’t.
Okay, I will confess, I was one of the ones complaining about the way Poppy's story ended. I will also admit, that I misjudged this author. Sis, I give you your props for bringing the story together with a nice near bow. Nikki and Boston kept me chomping at the bit for the way they adored one another. Why they were with people they didn't love was really dumbfounding. The astronauts on a space shuttle could see their love. And that thing with Shayna at the ending with the voyeurism thingy. Does she also deep sea dive? I was thinking, that twist made me look at her with tight eyes. And it looks as though we will have a Boris, Lenetta, and Nikki storyline too. No complaining this time...I'm good, as was this story. 4.75 star.
With the way The Hood Flower girl ended I knew I had to pick this book up immediately to see what happened next. I thought Poppi was out there but Boston is not one to be messed with at all (if you read the book you will see what I am talking about). We saw a little of Boston and Nikki in the first book but I was happy to get more of the backstory into their past relationship in this one. In the present, even though I was a little annoyed with her not wanting to claim Boston publicly once they got together I did understand her not wanting to do so based on her vlogging her previous relationship. I was happy that it worked out for her and it was nice to get the ending we did. Curious to see if there will be another book to discuss the Memphis and Nikki's mom since she was brought up a lot in both books and the revelation made with her new boo as well.
An HEA that I absolutely enjoyed along with the extra and juicy shenanigans at the end. I love me some Boston, but that Boris...lawd hammercy!!! This author delivered again!!!
M. Monique's "The Unhinged Best Man" is a riveting exploration of love, betrayal, and the unexpected turns life can take when long-held crushes come to the surface.
Boston Kelly, a man deeply committed to his marriage, finds his world shattered when his wife, whom he has tirelessly supported and loved, betrays him. Monique's writing here is poignant and raw, making Boston's journey a compelling read.
On the other side, we have Nikki McCorvey, a woman on the brink of marriage who believes she has found her forever in her fiancé. Her world is turned upside down by betrayal, and in her quest for solace, she seeks refuge in a place that brings her peace. Nikki's story is equally gripping, showcasing her vulnerability and strength in the face of heartbreak.

The characters are well-developed, the plot is engaging, and the exploration of themes such as loyalty, betrayal, and the rekindling of old feelings is handled with finesse.
Overall, "The Unhinged Best Man" is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a story filled with passion, drama, and the complexities of human relationships. M. Monique has crafted a memorable tale that lingers long after the final page is turned.
PS: I’m ready to see what’s up with Boris and Lenny.
⚠️: This is Book 2 if you did not read The Hood Flowergirl go run to KU to read the 1st book! Nothing will connect or make sense without the first book! This is more of Nikki & Boston’s story with interweaving ties of Memphis & Poppi!
❤️: it’s something about a woman being loved right for me (the love that these 2 couples have makes me wish I had this within my own life if it’s possible); the way these men put these women within their soft girl era just made me swoon and kick my feet!
📚: What if: you celebrated all of your friends’s wins in life and you finally had three opportunity to be loved by the man that you desired for since childhood, you could potentially be making a mistake in marrying the wrong man, will you, you had a choice to love someone out loud, chose happiness and finally got your happily ever after?

You know!! M Monique girl I don’t want the smoke. I read for pure entertainment so half the time I just be talking out the side of my neck when doing these reviews. I apologize for my feelings to the cliffhanger in the first book, and I’m going to change that star rating from 4 to 5 like it should’ve been right now! Absolutely five stars for both of these books. They connected perfectly, and I was cackling the entire time I was reading this book. Tandy can still go kick rocks if you asked me, but we’re not going to dwell on it. This was my first time reading anything from M. Monique and these being novellas just made me even more excited to see what a full length book from her is going to be like.
Boston. 😮💨😮💨😮💨 That man definitely met all qualifications for an unhinged bae. He was sweet and crazy in the best and worst ways.🤪 From the hood Flower girl it seemed like Nikki was a little bit of a softie but definitely held her own when it came to Boston. This novella was packed with comedy, deceit, spice and love. Topped off at the end with the short featuring Mr. Boris.😍 Absolutely loved it.
I knew there had to be more to Boston and Nikki from when Boston told her to go put clothes on in “The Hood Flower Girl”. She was mad but she went and did what that man said. Boston was definitely unhinged about Nikki. Once his marriage was over he was on Nikki heavy refusing to lose her again. Poppi was a real one for beating them girls ass too.

Listen, you were right! I love Boston. He was not playing about my girl okay!! I knew it was something with them from that boutique scene in Mems and Poppi’s book. This was such a great read, and I feel like we didn’t wait long for it!!
Now that's how you do a follow-up. Yes, my Boston got his true love. Nikki was just so kind hearted. That Memphis and Poppi still on cloud 9. I need an update, with mom included.
I thought Mem From book 1 was crazy 😜!! Sike lol Boston was the tru definition of crazy. This man sold her car! And made his cheating ex wife watch him s*X his new woman to prove he was over her !!! Ain’t nothing like an unhinged man. And one with BDE!!! Yesssss . She did these !!!

I love a good fast paced book but this was a little too much. Like lets be serious the unhinged was delusion. I needed a little more flushed out storyline. Still enjoyable.
Bostoooooooonnnnnn!!!! He was not playing about his girl! Shayna old raggedy self played the game ad got played! And Mika… girl bye! Didn’t Poppi already pop out and show yall? This was a great follow up, throughly enjoyed them. Hoping there is a part 3.
BOSTON!BOSTON! BOSTON! He is the man lol Him and Poppi are off the chain. Honey they have your back front middle and sides lol. This was a good short read.
This was probably one of my favorite reads of the month. It was quick fast and to the point. I feel like you read book one and pick up on the context clues and budding tension between Boston and Nikki. All that love and lust come bubbling over after they are betrayed by the ones they love. I feel like people who are mad or feel like it was rushed didn’t really digest the info provided. Not a single part of their story is confusing. In book one we see that there is tension between Poppi and Nikki’s other friends. We see bits and pieces of the issues come to head throughout. It was easy for me as a reader to see that Shayna wasn’t really a friend, she was jealous and spiteful toward Poppi for no real reason, she felt entitled to Nikki and her family and the men that surrounded her.It clear in the first book that she wants Nikki’s brother but he wasn’t going for it AT ALL, Boston in this case was an easier target because idk it was very easy to see him and Nikki had a spark so Shayna settled for the man within her reach while crossing Nikki. I felt the tension between Nikki and Boston and was def shocked to see who he ended up with. Now Nikki was tripping for almost marrying Eddie but I’m glad the things unfolded how they did. Both of them were deserving of true love and they got that. I don’t have a single complaint for this story at all
This book was much better as far as not having the excessive time jumps however it still didn’t fill in any clues.
Why was Shayna and Eddie messing around? Why did Mika know this and why was she upset with Nikki?
Like why was there more seggs than actual relationship building? 🥴
The unhinged definitely fit the title cause I really don’t know wtf I read. Like it was seggs fighting and more seggs every thing was kinda thrown around like parsley.
I’m normally a huge fan of M Monique but idk these last two just didn’t do it for me. They felt entirely too rushed
Oh and let’s not forget this Boris cat and all of a sudden he’s Nikki dad and whooping Jonathon tail 😭 like huhhhhhhhh ..
M. Monique’s Boon series is one of those rare finds where each installment feels richer, funnier, and more emotionally layered than the last. Book One pulled me in immediately with Poppi — a heroine who is chaotic, heartfelt, stubborn, and deeply human. She brings a kind of relatable messiness to the story that makes you root for her from page one. Monique writes her with such care that her growth feels natural, not forced. You see her unravel, rebuild, and step into her own, and you feel every bit of it along the way.
But Book Two? That one absolutely stole the show. It’s rare for a sequel to outshine the original, but this one does — and the reason is simple: Boston.
If Poppi was the emotional anchor of Book One, Boston is the unhinged, hilarious, morally-dubious hurricane that turns Book Two into something special. He’s chaotic in the best way: sharp-tongued, unpredictable, emotionally messy, and laugh-out-loud funny without ever losing the depth that makes him compelling. The way Monique balances his humor with vulnerability is masterful. He’s the kind of MMC who shouldn’t work on paper — too unfiltered, too intense — but somehow becomes the character you think about long after the book ends.
Monique’s greatest strength across both books is her character development. She doesn’t just write personalities; she writes people. People who change, break, heal, regress, grow, and clash in ways that feel real.
The relationships — romantic, platonic, and everything in between — evolve with a slow-burn authenticity. You see how Poppi becomes Poppi, how Boston becomes Boston, and how their stories connect without repeating each other. Monique doesn’t recycle tropes; she elevates them.
By the end of Book Two, you can feel how much stronger her storytelling has become. The pacing is tighter, the humor sharper, the emotional beats heavier, and the chaotic energy is turned up just enough to make it addictive without overwhelming the story.

Final Thoughts
If Book One is the hook, Book Two is the moment you realize you’re fully obsessed with the series. It’s fun, it’s unhinged, it’s emotional, and the characters feel like they walk off the page.
M. Monique didn’t just develop the story — she developed people, and that’s what makes the series genuinely memorable
The title doesn’t do this book justice to explain just how unhinged Boston was. When I say that man was the definition of IDGAF! He legit dgaf and couldn’t care less who had something to say. Read this immediately after the Hood Flowergirl so I could see where the cliffhanger was taking us. I was not disappointed because Boston was more crazy and deranged than Memphis I fear 😭😭😂 like both were crazy 🤣🤣🤣 I also wanna say I assumed it was always him and Nikki from the 1st book. It just gave that so this was a no brainer. But the way they ended up was trifling on those two who shall remain nameless.
Boston was always Nikki’s protector since they were kids. He never left her side and being her brother’s best friend, he was her keeper. He truly was a loyal man unlike others who would up and leave at the first sign of commitment. He stayed true to his word even after his ex did him so wrong. But Nikki was always his one and true love. If anything time and Nikki being engaged only fostered more feelings towards her. I loved them can’t lie but Boston craziness had me cracking up. I loved seeing more of Poppi and Memphis as well. And the ending!? I wish I could’ve seen more of it play out but this was a fun quick read. Loved the characters and once again Poppi was the realest friend Nikki had. Beat anyone who dare stepped incorrectly towards Nikki. I’m glad Nikki learned to heal from her how dirty her fiancé did her, how she learned that friendship isn’t always determined by time but instead actions. Truly beautiful to see. As much of a hard body Boston was he was soft when it came to his Nikki.
It's giving when its real, time don’t ruin it...it just waits for you to stop playing.
Listen. I don’t care what anybody says- Nikki and Boston were the assignment, the test, and the retake all in one. 😮💨
From the moment the mess popped off... fiancés cheating, spouses wildin’, fake friends acting funny- I knew something bigger was brewing. And baby… when it came together? It felt like karma finally clocked in.
Boston been in love with that woman since sneakers and side eyes, okay? That man said “I’m him” and meant it every single page. 😭 Possessive, protective, dramatic as hell, and somehow still the calm in her storm. He showed up every time, and didn’t need to announce it.
And Nikki? Whew, I felt her. She’s the soft girl who had to learn softness don’t mean silence. The way she went from shrinking for others to standing tall in her peace? Poetic. Watching her find safety in the same man she once pushed away, that’s healing on a whole different level. 💅🏾
Let’s talk about the betrayal though...because whew. Shayna and Mika? Dusty. Eddie? Dumpster material. Throw the whole friend group away. The audacity! But what made it powerful is how Nikki didn’t let bitterness win. She leveled up instead.
Poppi (aka the realest BFF ever) stayed ten toes down as always. Ready to ride, ready to fight, ready to pull up in house shoes if needed. Every woman needs a Poppi. Period.
The humor? Gold. Boston on that damn bike following her had me hollering. 💀 And the ending? Yeah...momma gotta have a life too!
Ms. Monique really said love can be hood, holy, and healing all at once, and I felt that. Dramatic love, loud loyalty, no half-stepping. In the end he wasn’t her rebound- he was her return home. 🤎
The drama dragged me through, the chemistry lit me up, and the ending left me cheesin’. Boston & Nikki? Forever my type of beautiful chaos.
This was the perfect conclusion to the story that began in The Hood Flower Girl. I LOVE me a best friends in love with best friends group. The best friend’s sibling aspect was the sprinkles on top. It just gives me all the feels.
It’s forever “My Man, My Man, My Man!” when it comes to Boston Maurice Kelly! UNHINGED is the only way to describe him. lol. The opening scene of this book had me on the edge of my Kindle. Not a second of time was wasted picking up where we left off in THFG. I absolutely lived!
Boston was not playing with or about Nikki. I loved how their foundation for love was laid. This was a “fast paced” novella, but I appreciate how it didn’t feel like our MCs moved too fast. It wasn’t rushed or missing any details. I really adored their bond. Boston was a safe space for her & Nikki alway took care of him. They took care of each other. I think I was thirstier than anyone for them to be 100% free of their pasts & have the chance to love each other openly. So glad they found their way back to each other.
Every single person who pissed me off previously, got exactly what tf they deserved! Go cry about it. Seek a therapist. Goodbye. Good Riddance.
I’m proud of Nikki for finally standing up for herself. & hey Papa Boris! love him for Mama Lenetta. I squealed at the “I told you not to marry her line.” & the birthday card/thank you made me laugh out loud.
When I say I couldn’t get to this book fast enough!!!!! I loved 🥰 this book. Boston was truly unhinged and unbothered with the way he was ready to go about everything. When it all came out and you see the real reason he is married I felt bad for him but he fixed that shit so fast. The betrayal that took place in this book was disrespectful. Boston and Nikki were really doing right by their people and loving on them correctly, so just to see them be disrespected the way that they were being disrespected and for the people that they were to be married\married to with each other. It was the audacity for me that they thought they could give an explanation was disturbing. Nikki was too sweet and clearly lead with a heart that though everyone was for her. When it came to her friends maybe a bit dazed at how people were with handling her. Secretly they had been waiting for her demise, but not quietly like they were kind of upfront about it. In my opinion, the ex-wife and the ex fiancé deserved far worse than what they got. I’m glad that Poppi was there, and was able to see it with her own eyes and handled it accordingly, even if it landed her behind bars. Anywho just like that 1part of the novella, the two love interest were on each other for years, but never made a move, and never said a thing to the other person, until there was nothing left, standing in their way to just go ahead and put it on the table. I loved the ending! My mouth dropped when Mr. Boris was talking to momma but baby who else heard what he said because clearly momma was not always unhappy just with the wrong one!!!!!!!!!!
When I say I flew to this, I mean read this so QUICK! THE DRAMAaaaaaaa! Oh I ATE. IT. UP!
Boston..Boston..Boston, I respected the heck out of him for stepping up and doing what he thought he was supposed to do! I could really tell that man did not care about Shayna at all. and honestly in the end they should've done her worse than they did.
I'm so glad Nikki fell fast and didn't play in my man face. She deserved to be loved by Boston. Her heart was too pure for Eddie and those half ssa friendships she had. I'm so glad she had Pooppi by her side.
My favorite parts: When he told Nikki what he'd do with the tape, My God, do I love a good toxic mannnnnn lol! Going live and ignoring Boston's calls, lol. Oh, Definitely the money for the carrrrr! AND Lastly Happy Next Birthday with the card! That took me all the way OUT!
Oh and I almost forgot: when ole girl had to WATCHHHHH!! Girlllllllll.
Okaaay, now that we've got through that where is my follow up on Boris and mama? I need more immediately because that ending?!?!
