This is Book One of the Detective Matt Holden Mystery Series.
A gripping and intense mystery crime thriller. For those who enjoy detective stories and crime thrillers, this is for you!
A sweet seven-year-old boy suddenly goes missing. No clues are left behind. There are no witnesses — no one saw or heard anything. There is almost nothing for the cops to go on. The mother of the boy is frantic.
Detective Sergeant Matt Holden knows time is critical. He understands too well that most child-abduction cases do not end well. He will do everything possible to track down and rescue this boy.
Two similar cases from two years earlier were never solved and have gone cold. Detective Holden fears this case could become another one that is never solved, and he can’t allow that to happen.
Holden is determined to find and rescue the missing child as soon as possible and bring him home before it is too late.

This book was well written. Though every attempt was made to be procedurally correct, with kidnapping cases the FBI would've been called in once the local police have determined it was indeed a kidnapping. Yet, the author did an excellent job of keeping the reader involved with the investigation and conclusion of the case. It was a surprise to find who the kidnapper was and to see all the evidence collected for making the case.
This book is a compelling and emotionally charged mystery novel. It is a must-read for fans of the genre who appreciate well-developed characters, intricate plots, and a touch of psychological depth. Miclea has crafted a story that is both thrilling and thought-provoking, making it a standout addition to any mystery lover’s bookshelf.
I have read several books by the author, Lynn Miclea and was never disappointed. She is a great writer and so it was with this book. The first in the series of a detective series. In times it was very emotionally charged how the mystery enfolded. Description of the characters came out very well an came to life. I recommend the story to everyone.
This is not a hard-boiled, gritty thriller geared to jaded adult readers. I do think it would be a perfect intro to crime fiction for middle school readers and up.
As a person in the law enforcement field, some of the storyline is how it can be on the backside of how it operates. Of course the book is a condensed version of truth but most of it is paperwork and doing follow up investigative work. A lot of it is a waiting game for a breakthrough. The part with using a psychic-yeah, that’s not standard practice. I pretty much guessed who the suspect was and it didn’t surprise me to learn his backstory and how it could be swept under the rug. Sad, but it happens A LOT. Facts and evidence plays a crucial role in putting away criminals. Good job Lynn!! Would read more books from this author.
