Mirabelle is special because she is different. Her mum is a witch and her dad is a fairy and she LOVES getting up to magical mischief. So, her parents' picnic party in the garden seems the perfect chance to play some pranks on her annoying brother, Wilbur. But when Mirabelle gets caught putting frogspawn in Wilbur's drink she's sent inside. It's so unfair! Why should she have to miss the party? Then a brilliant idea If she uses a shrinking potion on herself, she'll be too tiny for anyone to see, so she'll still be able to enjoy the party! But Mirabelle is about to discover that the garden feels a little more dangerous when you're no taller than a blade of grass. Have her mischievous ways gone too far this time . . . ?
Harriet Muncaster studied illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts before going on to get an MA in children’s book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. In creating the art for her first book for children, she was thrilled to have found a good outlet for her lifelong fascination with miniatures. She lives in Hertfordshire, England.
Mirabelle’s family is having the new neighbours round for a fun picnic, Mirabelle does her best to help and stay out of trouble. Though her mum punishes her anyway for a clean up gone wrong. So she uses magic to sneak down to the party, but being small isn’t all she thought it would be.
Mirabelle is adorable she doesn’t even intentionally do pranks or even get into mischief especially in this book. She was on her best behaviour until her brother was utterly rude, and she did her best to clean the kitchen she just didn’t know the right way to do the task. I really didn’t like her mum, she was so rude to her for no reason, I am seriously not a fan of her horrid mother.
I liked the fun adventure that Mirabelle went on when she was small, it was so much fun seeing her exploring the world whilst being so small and trying to navigate where she was and how she was going to get back home. It was so much fun seeing her tiny. Though I felt sad for her when she couldn’t figure out what she would do to get back to regular size again.
A beautifully illustrated book in Mirabelle series, a great read and a lot of magic within this story. I really enjoyed reading this one, Mirabelle always ends up getting into something crazy and silly she shouldn’t be doing.
Sometimes not being yourself and trying so hard to be good or present a face that is not you will raise tensions. This one got to me as Mirabelle was trying to be good, trying to help and sadly made more mess as a result unintentionally. This leads to her getting in trouble and hijinks ensues. I enjoyed this one as it shows Mirabelle had grown and sometimes you have no control over what goes wrong. It was fun, ingenious problem solving and big bugs.
