The Girl in the Springs is a mystery set in a small town with charming, quirky characters and a deadly mystery to solve. Birdie, the main character, is brave, smart and very different from our usual heroine. Several teenagers have disappeared from Serenity Springs going back 20 years. First a young girl that is a friend of Birdie’s family is killed and then Birdie’s best friend is missing. Along with the new man in her life, Birdie wades through the clues despite the danger to find out the truth. This book is endearing, funny, charming, frightening and terrifying all the way to the plot twist you’ll never see coming. If you love a good mystery, you will love The Girl in the Springs by Elle Gray and K.S. Gray.
The new sheriff in town just realizes that she has a serial killer to track down. The new local PI Bridget or Birdie as she likes to be called talks to the sheriff about a new case she is working on and tells her that there have been more killings over the years that could be connected. This builds a new relationship between the new sheriff Donna and PI Birdie as they share information to finally track down this serial killer. So many twists and turns to keep you wondering who is the killer. You won’t want to put this book down until the end.
It was a pleasant, cozy mystery; light on suspense but charming in its small-town vibes. I enjoyed the setting of Serenity Springs and the quirky cast of characters, though the mystery itself felt a bit predictable. It’s a nice, easy read if you're in the mood for something gentle and not too intense. I have read a few books by this author, and it didn’t read like her previous works, so I was quite thrown. I am don't think I will read the rest of the series.
Really liked the beginning of this new series and can't wait to find out what happens next. Love the new characters. Birdie is so quirky but smart and loveable. Noah is her perfect match. Have to mention that as soon as the villain was introduced I knew he was the one. Don't know how I knew I just did. However, loved the twists and turns and sometimes I wondered whether or not I was right. What a great start for a new series.
I don't usually like chatty books like this however it grew on me. Birdie is very smart and capable. Quite her own person; open, honest and unafraid to say what she thinks. Back in her hometown as a preschool worker and PI,she is overseeing a house construction, meets contractor Noah, and finds a dead body. From there she is involved in missing persons and murder investigations. Humorous at times.
I couldn’t wait to get back to this story! Everytime I put it down, I wonder what I will read next! The characters are likeable and down to earth! From Birdie to Donna, even Noah and Maisy! Being an independent woman who doesn’t really care for romance stories and loves bad ass women, this read was still a page turner! I love Elle Gray, I love her as an author and anyone she collaborates with! Thanks for a great ending! Can’t wait to read more of Elle’s artistic works!!!
The book starts rather slowly because of describing the main characters and getting to know their roles, I was pleasantly curious as to where they would fit into the story. I found myself picturing each character vividly in my mind. A band of quirky characters that brought such great storylines to this read.
I gave it four stars because I figured out the culprit rather quickly. Overall, it was a great read and I'm excited to follow Birdie's further adventures.
somehow despite the numerous sets of remains, not quite the gripping suspense
The story does take some interesting and unanticipated turns, while the heroine, Birdie, solves the case of a classroom’s missing mascot, burglaries at her grandmother’s assisted living residence and - ultimately - the perpetrators of homicides spanning decades.
This was a really good book, I love Birdie and Noah and can not wait to read the next one.
possible spoilers:
... ... ... I saw right through Stanley and even called a few of the twists, but there were a few more that I had not expected. It kept me turning pages waiting for the big reveal. looking forward to the next book in the series!

Keep writing Elle and I'll keep reading...a big 5 🌟
It was a very interesting story. Birdey was a new private investigator and she was searching to find information about the missing kids over the years. She helped the police investigate the missing kids plus Mia who was just taken. They had many suspects but no real evidence. Well by the end of the story Birdey had a boyfriend and had solved the murders.
This book quickly pulls you in and keeps you guessing right up to the end. For once I’m actually glad I’m late starting a series so that doozy of a cliffhanger doesn’t keep me biting my nail until the next book is released. It’s 10:33pm and I can’t bring myself to wait until tomorrow to start the next book. Book 2 here I come! Who needs sleep. 😉
Not only a good book, but a hint of more to come. I don't know how books find their way to kindleunlimited, but I have really lucked out whenever I've opened one to read. Plus now have another good author to go to. This is a really good book.
This was a great book and I couldn't go to sleep at night. I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the next book.. I love the way this one finished. It keeps you hanging.
This was a great new story about Bridget and trying to find out what going on in this small town. There was lots of suspense and action and I really enjoyed this new series. Thank you.
Started out a little slow for me but quickly picked up the excitement and pace. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. New author for me and enjoying.
