VIDAS: Poems

Rate this book
Vidas focuses on the exploration, account, and reflection on the elusiveness of our days. Written in the form of lists, the persona in the work navigates the ways in which one may forget, learn, exist, remember, and move forward as they make a conscious effort to evaluate the fleeting moments of their everyday life.

1 They say this mountain is a body. Must be itchy, having us crawling here all this time.

2 I look at this place and think it will happen and happen and happen.

3 People seldom find the body. Here on this mountain the fog decides on inhaling us and we just keep on walking.

4 Nowadays I try to take a good look around. The place, I mean.

5 Most of it is just sound. If I could anticipate a quiet memory-cicadas, footsteps, birds, and footsteps, then doors, open and shut.

6 I think she would have seen me, too.

7 Up here it's either your umbrella sizzles, or you keep the stick and lose the rest.

8 It's persistent; crawls past your legs like undergrowth and before you know it, have found its way inside your clothes, into the text. I tried reading about it, searching for secrets or footing. What I found: more trees.
