Cisco Andera has watched all his close buddies find true love, and rather than scoff at their loss of freedom, it makes him reevaluate his own life. At thirty-three years old, he’s tired of playing the bar scene, and wants some permanency of his own. But is he a good bet? He has a few awkward secrets, along with some fairly annoying habits that aren’t exactly mainstream. Will the woman he’s set his sights on—who’s constantly giving him very confusing and mixed signals—agree to be saddled with Cisco’s baggage for the long term?

Hilly Duncan, owner and operator of Camp Venture, has worked long and hard to build her self-esteem after a childhood full of bullying and mocking. She’s been determined that nothing will derail her newfound confidence, but…how cruel is fate? After all this time shoring up her inner strength, her sad little middle-school crush has come back to haunt her in the form of one hot-bodied motorcycle cop. She might have been able to ignore his reappearance in her life, if he wasn’t going to be teaching self-defense courses to her campers twice a week.

Maybe it’s a good thing Cisco hasn’t recognized the pathetic Hilly of the past.

Cisco is the newest addition to the Downeast SWAT series. It's very bit as captivating as all of the previous books. LJ Vickery creates genuinely likeable characters and surrounds them with intrigue, suspense, drama, great action sequences and wonderfully spicy romance. And, topping it off are appearances from various Susan Stoker series. This time around it's Crash and Adeline Christopherson from Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes. Doesn't get much better.

I really loved Cisco Andera and Hilly Duncan. They both have their insecurities and quirks born out of childhood events but they've overcome and/or learned to manage them in adulthood. Yet, doubts linger and creep in at inopportune moments. Having her high school crush show up at her summer camp to teach self defense classes is not something Hilly could have anticipated. Yet, here he is, in all of his six foot plus gorgeous and so out of her league body. Cisco is immediately more than impressed with this beautiful redheaded woman. The more he gets to know her the more he wants her in his life...permanently. it's a slow journey that takes a lot of finesse along with missteps to get Hilly to let down her guard. It happens but celebrating gets put on hold when danger comes calling.

Cisco and Hilly will rock your world

Cisco and Hilly are now one of my my favorite SWAT couples! Hilly was bullied all through middle school. Now she runs a summer camp for kids who are like she was. It was her Grandma’s camp, and was left to Hilly. Hilly created a safe haven for kids who have been bullied and works with local schools to find the kids who should be at her camp. Cisco and Hilly were in middle school together and he stuck up for her a couple of times. Hilly had a major crush on him. She went to private school and lost touch with him. When Cisco is asked by his chief to work a couple of days at the camp teaching self defense, he is immediately smitten with Hilly. But doesn’t recognize her. She immediately shuts him down and is affected by her past. Trigger warning: descriptions of bullying and subsequent mental trauma.

Enter our villains, an evil developer who wants her camp, and her abusive father who feels he should have inherited the camp. I don’t want to give too much more away, but I really hope a camp like this does exist. And Cisco and Hilly get their HEA.

This book was so amazing and I can’t wait for the next one. 15/10 recommend!

Cisco Andera has watched many of his coworkers and friends find their happily ever afters. He has decided he wants to give up his playboy lifestyle and settle down.
Hilly Duncan runs Camp Venture, her dream, to make a camp for kids that have been bullied.
She decides that a class teaching self defense would be a great addition for the camp.
A certain SWAT member has joined her team to teach the kids self defense. Not just any man, but one she remembers well from her childhood but he doesn't remember her yet.
Problems start happening at camp, problems that Cisco and his buddies intend to make go away.
This is such an amazing series, one that will stay with you. Stories of love, laughter, dreams, pain, secrets and most of all healing together.

Great book, and nice connection.

Spoiler-ish
Comment to the author - I like your writing. But I just want to say that not all people that grew up round want to lose weight, or were bullied. Many were loved and celebrated. And not all women or men want shaved pubic hair. This is a recurrent theme in your books. Please expand to be more inclusive, just as you have been inclusive of sexual identity.

I enjoyed this book from the start. Billy has a summer camp
that she started for kids who have been bullied.
A safe place so they can get more confidence and be around other
kids who have gone thru the same thing. Cisco is going to help teach self defense.
There is danger, mystery and suspense.
Definitely a must read.
I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.

Who would have guessed Cisco can be such a softy. Meeting Hilly calms him, never guessing he knew her.
And Hilly is an amazing character fighting against Bullies herself making sure Kids once like her had a camp to lift them up. If just the bad guys would get the meno too.
