From the opening pages of Higher Self, Mpry Fontanez takes readers by the hand and leads them gently yet insistently toward the untapped wisdom that lives within all of us. This is not merely a self-help book; it is an invitation to awaken, to remember, and to claim the voice we often silence.
Fontanez’s writing strikes a rare balance — poetic without being abstruse, deeply spiritual without losing sight of the practical. Each chapter feels like a meditation: passages that you want to underline, return to, let wash over you. Her stories are intimate and grounded; her insights feel borrowed from universal truths, yet delivered personally — as though she knows your doubts, your fears, your longing.
What I especially loved was how Fontanez doesn’t promise overnight transformations — there are no sugarcoated platitudes here. She acknowledges our wounds, our resistance, the messiness of change. Yet she also offers tools: reflection prompts, concrete practices, ways of discerning the whispers of the higher self amid life’s noise.
yea guys i know this took me forever to read but working on yourself takes time 🫶🏼 anyway i really enjoyed this and really felt like it has helped and will continue to help me in becoming who i am and will be. this was the first self help book i’ve ever read and it felt very honest and genuine and im looking forward to using the tools she has provided in my life to grow and evolve.
If you are ever lost in the woods feeling like all that surrounds you is all the noise that comes from fear….then you need to read this book. It’s a beautiful reminder of who and what we are. That despite all that shapes us and the hardships in life we experience, we have a constant guide that will always want what is for our highest good. We are never alone. And this book with its story telling and vulnerability reminds us to listen and trust this quiet knowing.
This is read in SUCH a STERILE manner!! The narrator sounds nice and kind like pretty much ALL women (narrators) do. But it’s so robotic and uptight. It sounds like the type of person who has 2 medical degrees, a law degree and works for the government.
Inklings of a kind understanding voice and tone, overpowered by a rigid and instructional delivery. And not in a good way, like a DMV teacher kind of delivery. Very much by the books. Not chill, not relaxed, not playful or as natural as it could be. It's the kind of voice that you would hear on commercials trying to sell you something or a SAAS promo video.
(It's possible production could have some influence on this overall feel too)
Undoubtedly many people won't have a problem with it and I can understand that (plus I wouldn't want them to). But personally, when I'm listening to an audiobook I would MUCH rather it sound a LOT more natural free flowing rather than this more instructional/robotic delivery (it's honestly impressive that people can even read in such a consistent and heavily regulated manner. But again, it's not something I would ever really want to listen to in any circumstance).
To put it another way, (at 1.25x) it sounds like what could be the female voice of Jarvis (the artificial intelligence Iron Man spoke to). That's the amount of range that was present in this voice (i.e quite limited and not very human like).
Another thing that was conflicting about it is the fact that parts of it was read as if this was fiction. Which of course sounds great on paper because you'd imagine the author would want this story to be read in a compelling and engaging manner. But the narrator's constrained delivery just clashed even more with the fiction storytelling approach. The delivery did not quite match the feel they seemed to be going for.
Although a massive element, and not something I would overlook. The voice sounding stern, robotic and not human-like is about the only gripe I had with it. Aside from that, the narrator seemed excellent in other departments (tough to judge concretely given the one overarching flaw).
Content
In short: This offers a VERY light and surface level coverage on the topic of higher self and intuition (along with any other topic discussed).
Content wise this book was incredibly misleading.
With higher self in big huge letters and intuition making up the bulk of this title, I would've thought this book would have been significantly geared towards spirituality and covered some more nuanced topics in greater depth (than some other books) and from the author's unique perspective.
Instead, it was very much the opposite. I would hardly call this a spiritual book. It's more of a very light introduction for those uninvolved in spiritual teachings. A bridge for the average person (so to speak) to lightly dip their feet in and explore intuition from a very basic level.
Perhaps useful to those whom this topic is new to, but for anyone who's read much of ANY spiritual book that has even touched on intuition + higher self, this wouldn't be of much use to them.
Essentially, I found this book to be incredibly shallow and didn't find the information to be the least bit profound, insightful, or eye-opening to me (but again, for anyone not into spirituality and new to this topic, I'm sure you can get some use out of this. But from the title I definitely thought this book was going to cover these topics with some actual depth and complexity).
Intuition wasn't even highlighted until the end of the book and that was very annoying...
One thing that was a bit nice is that for a small portion of the book the author used a few descriptive words reminiscent of what you would only find in fiction novels. I found that to be a really nice touch considering it's incredibly rare to hear authors use these kind of descriptors in non-fiction books. So it was nice to have the author's fresh and fairly unique writing style (as it relates to word choice) briefly expressed in that way.
There's a section that talks about how many corporations use people, prey on their pride, desire to feel worthy etc. in order to get the most out of them. Too overwork them, get them to buy into the company ethos, promote conformity, blind submission etc. That was a good addition that you also don't hear a lot in these kind (self help) of books. The limiting beliefs section was ok as well.
Overall this book is incredibly basic and for me, misleading. This was WAYYYY too much of an autobiography than a deep exploration on one's higher self and intuition. The fact that it wasn't until the very LAST chapters that intuition was actually given center stage speaks volumes to that. If I had to loosely give you the numbers, this is like 88% autobiography, 12% information on one's higher self & intuition.
I can easily see the author means well, and for people completely oblivious to all of the things mentioned in this book, I can see how it could be a (half) decent introduction to them. But I wouldn't call this book anything special. I would say it's ONLY for the MOST novice of beginners who want to read a biography first and be spoon-fed, bite-sized bits of information on one's higher self and intuition second.
As a business owner and a mom, I often find myself pulled in a million directions—balancing client demands, growing a company, and making sure I’m present for my family. It’s easy to lose sight of my own intuition in the midst of all the noise. Higher Self helped me pause, reflect, and reconnect with the part of me that already knows the answers.
Mory has an incredible ability to meet you exactly where you are—whether you feel stuck, disconnected, or uncertain—and gently guide you back to yourself. Her wisdom is both grounding and liberating, offering a path to healing that doesn’t feel overwhelming but instead, deeply compassionate and empowering.
Reading Higher Self felt like being handed a mirror that reflected not just my fears and self-doubt, but also my strength, intuition, and purpose. It helped me recognize the ways my past conditioning was keeping me in patterns that no longer served me and gave me the tools to rewrite my own narrative. This book reminded me that the answers I seek have always been within—I just needed to quiet the noise and listen.
For anyone juggling the complexities of life—whether as a leader, a parent, or someone simply searching for more alignment—Higher Self is the guide you didn’t know you needed. Mory’s words are an invitation to come home to yourself, and I’m so grateful I accepted.
Ever read a book and it causes you to not start another because your brain is processing so much good information? This did that to me!
By sharing her story, Mory gives you the tools to dig a bit deeper into yourself. Even if you’re doubtful, I challenge you to take a leap and read this book; you won’t regret it.
Fontanez’s Higher Self is a beacon of light in a world that often pulls us away from our inner truth. With a rare blend of wisdom, compassion, and profound insight, Fontanez guides readers on a journey back to themselves — their highest, most authentic selves.
What makes Higher Self so powerful is its ability to feel both deeply personal and universally resonant. Fontanez doesn’t just share theory; she weaves her own life experiences, her hard-earned lessons, and her spiritual knowing into every page. Her writing is clear yet poetic, practical yet profoundly spiritual. The exercises, reflections, and practices she offers feel accessible and doable — not lofty concepts, but actionable steps toward living with greater clarity, purpose, and trust.
Mory has a gift for making the mystical feel practical and the practical feel magical.
An easy five stars and I can’t wait to read more from her.
Who the heck thought this rambling back talking hypocritical book was good to publish i sped read it and i mean like sped read to see if it was worth digging into getting the major points and like such a waste of paper. Its like dont let beliefs stop you capitalism makes you feel not food enough then goes on a ramble about buying eye cream cause capitalism makes her feel agey like that aesop story about the mother crab trying to teach her son how to walk. And also feels like a bad therapy session you find a therapist you go sit down and the whole time she rambles about her life and how her beliefs can help you and how great shes doing in life. But ya good job on being able to afford 70$ eye cream you dont need even tho a few sentences later you said some products do help. PLEASE PUBLISHERS STOP WASTING PAPER ON THESE CRAPPY BOOKS REPRINT THE DRAGON LANCE BOOKS. Honestly if you want to help your self just read aesop tales they help better then this book.
The world is wild these days. I can barely hear myself think, let alone listen to my inner wisdom. We are all emotionally and spiritually exhausted it seems. But somehow, this book woke me up again. I am slowly leaning into so many things I once knew and trying to trust myself -- something I realize I haven't been doing in some time. I am in the middle of a major life transition and am constantly asking others for their advice, tips, suggestions. This book reminded me that I have a deeper knowing that I have basically been ignoring. This is not to say that I won't be curious about others' thoughts, but it has been refreshing to tap back into my own knowledge. Plus, her personal anecdotes make the concepts FAR more relatable than simply doling out the advice on its own. It is definitely a must read, especially if you are feeling particularly disconnected in today's world.
A friend of mine recommended this book to me as he was able to get an advance copy so I borrowed it from him once he was done. He didn’t say much about it other than that I had to read it. And I did. And i have to say that this book resonated with me on so many different levels. The ability to reflect on my fears, my hardships, my insecurities in this crazy day to day life we all live. I think mostly Mory has done with her writing is to help learn to truly trust oneself. That all the answers to the questions that you have about yourself lie within. That a reflection inward can be more fruitful and peaceful than focusing on the chaos outward. That peace you find within yourself is what allows you to tackle life in all its scary forms. I appreciate this book so very much and I know you will too.
It’s difficult to put into words the impact this book had on me. I did not expect to be shedding tears from recognition of how much what Mory said truly resonated with me. I typically don’t read many books of this genre but Mory’s felt so unique I was intrigued to keep reading from the initial first pages. I can’t say how happy I “trusted my intuition” on this one. What I found was an approach so insightful, healing and honest I couldn’t help but re-read passages and take notes throughout. This book has made a big impact, to say the least, and I will be keeping it nearby for future reference.
As a faithful listener to her podcast, I was thrilled to find out that Mory was working on a book that would take me on the journey that has lead her to her life’s work of healing and coaching. For anyone who has struggled with self-doubt and trusting their inner voice as truth, this book speaks directly to your fears. The guidance Mory offers is so accessible and relevant. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to understand and embrace your intuition.
This is a very enlightening book that describes how your higher self starts as an infant and is often thwarted by other people who want you to play things safe and not reach your full potential. Mory Fontanez writes in a clear and concise way and serves as your guide in taking the necessary steps to reach your highest self. I highly recommend this book if you want to grow and reach your full potential. Al Blostin
This book is blowing my mind. Mory does a great job of mixing stories with practical ways to shift your mindset. It’s a good mix of practical and spiritual and I’m loving the prompts at the end of each chapter. My partner and I have been doing them together and it’s so enlightening. Highly recommend.
Higher Self is a transformative guide that helps readers align with their purpose and find fulfillment. Through personal stories and practical advice, it encourages shedding limiting beliefs and embracing authenticity. This book empowers readers to step into their full potential and live with intention.
The writing style of this book is appealing - not judgmental or condescending. I didn’t relate to a lot of it because I am not much of a spender (except on books!). It is very all or nothing, which could work for some people, but I feel like that type of mentality will go right back to overspending. Some practical tips, though.
“Higher Self” is a game-changer for anyone looking to find more purpose, balance, and fulfillment in their daily life. With relatable stories and practical advice, this book helps uncover that in which, might be holding you back! A must read for all curious, looking for your best self, readers.
Mory Fontanez is such a delightful spirit. I’m sitting with this book so deeply. She really takes us in a journey into meeting our purpose, and reconnecting with our intuition. 💗
Lots of really powerful and profound stuff in this book. I didn't do the exercises because I was listening to it on audio, but I plan to go back and revisit.
I thought this book was pretty good for its purpose. This book can be valuable to people who need some direction in their lives. The author shares some lessons learned and gives some advice, and along the way tells parts of her life story, including her single parenthood, marital problems, and so on. To some readers, her Iranian ancestry and her family's experiences in the US might serve as inspirational. Overcoming obstacles tends to make people stronger. I liked some of the anecdotes, and other people could reasonably relate to other aspects of the book.
In the area of possible improvements, the tone of the book is generally very (excessively so, I think) informal, with some unexpected f-bombs. She makes it clear at the start that she doesn't have a fancy background but has some ideas to share. I think perhaps if she used at least a slightly more formal tone, I would have taken her book more seriously. I've read other books that I could recommend to others with enthusiasm; I'm sorry to say that this isn't one of them. Anyway, this is just my opinion, and other people are welcome to have their own ideas.
I am grateful for the advance preview version of the book that I received. Peace be with you. :-)
