An insightful and unsentimental look at the world of motherhood focuses on three young mothers whose children play together, exploring the tensions and conflicts faced by modern women over such issues as careers, autonomy, and sexuality. 20,000 first printing.
I can't even describe how much I liked this book. It so perfectly described mothers' evolving friendships with other mothers. The unavoidable conflict that creates difficulty in these friendships was well represented, as well as the way that moms can and need to connect with other moms purely based on going through the same sense of being pulled in all directions - work, wife, caregiver, friend. I thought the author perfectly captured the essence of the first years of becoming a mother, and how the friendships that form during those years are crucial to a person's perception of parenting.
