The devastation of Daniel's hidden opiate addiction, betrayal, and paranoia has left Amelia questioning her reality and the safety of her young children. Reliving the experiences of her traumatic childhood, past lovers, and mistakes that led her into the arms of the sociopath she married, Amelia uncovers layers of truth that threaten everything she knows. With her children in tow, Amelia takes off in a borrowed vehicle to eerie Jekyll Island in search of sanctuary where she finds not only the answers she has been searching for, but an unexpected romance with an ex-marine named Cameron. When Amelia is finally able to visualize a future for herself and children where they are thriving, ghosts of the life she left behind re-emerge, and she must play by the rules to ensure her survival.
Picked this up because it was a local author & we love Jekyll Island where the book is set - but I think that it could have used a few more edits. Enjoyed the story but had a number of plot issues that were hard to overlook. Also, the layout of the book was distracting and their were a number of spelling/grammatical errors. Overall decent writing - just left me saying "eh."
Beautifully written. Thought provoking, moving and charming all at once. Such an incredible story and the characters felt like close friends, I cried and laughed along with them.
