"His eyes, usually sharp and alert, held a warmth that made Tae Hyun's breath catch in his throat. It was a look he knew well - the one that said, I'm here for you, no matter what. At that moment, all of Tae Hyun's doubts and anxieties seemed to vanish, replaced by a quiet gratitude for this man who loved him so fiercely."
**I received an advance copy of this book from Jetspace Studio and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Thank you so much for giving me a chance to read this ARC!**
I can’t believe “Idol Lives” was already the last book of K.T. Salvo’s “Idol Romance” series, because I enjoyed this story so much and I could have easily read even more of their books. As conclusions to series go, this was everything I ever wanted and even more. I loved that Jason and Tae Hyun grew so much over the course of the last three books, and I personally was a huge fan of the fact that K.T. always chose another route to explore. In the first book we had their tender beginnings, in the second book we got a closer look at the difficulties they had to face as an out and proud couple and in this last instalment we saw them navigating the murky waters of rumours and trust. There was always another focus and whilst it made me sad, Tae Hyun and Jason didn’t have as much time together as in the last two books, I still see why their separation was necessary for their character development.
"Absolutely not," Jason replied, firm and final. "You've worked way too hard on this tour. A lot of people have. And a lot of people are depending on it. On you. Not the least of which are your fans." Tae Hyun sighed. "I don't want to leave you to handle things all by yourself. Not after everything you did for me."
Due to the unexpected ending of the second book, Jason and Tae Hyun are forced to go separate ways and both of them have to deal with problems of their own. Tae Hyun is going for his world tour and Jason needs to go back to America in order to handle his father’s company Brightstar. None of them expected things to go this way, but you’ve to play the cards you were dealt and Jason as well as Tae Hyun know that they have to focus on their careers before they can be together for good. Too much is at stake and if they truly want their HEA, they will have to sort things out first.
"Doing something like that again had become impossible. Just like sneaking off to an anonymous Van Nuys dive bar to quietly drink away his troubles was impossible. He may not have asked for it, but it was his reality. He'd just have to figure out a way to live with it."
I really felt sorry for both of them and it made me sad that they spent a huge portion of the book on different sides of the world. Still, it was necessary to let them grow and to give them some room to explore themselves. They already knew how good they were together, but they also had to figure out that they were amazing on their own as well. And I think the author did an awesome job conveying that! Both of them were confronted with serious situations and this time around, they had to face them by themselves. Sure, they were always there for each other and just a call away, but they had to trust each other without letting the voices and lies of other people get into their heads. Which ultimately turned out to be quite the test for their relationship.
"Jason's heavy sigh settled like a weight on his shoulders. He stared into the swirling depths of his glass, then downed the rest. "You really need to figure out what's important to you, Tae Hyun. Because right now, I'm not so sure it's me."
I hated to read about their conflicts but with every quarrel, there also came the possibility of change and growth and those two men were amazing at communicating their feelings. No, seriously. They’ve come such a long way and their honest communication is hands down one of the best things about this series. Despite all the troubles they had to face, they always managed to talk things through and came out stronger than before, though. As for the people that tried to get in their way: The villains in this story might have been obvious from the start, but I was still along for the ride because I wanted to see how our two MCs would handle them and their treacherous antics. When Jason and Tae Hyun are apart they are quite formidable, when they are together, they are a force to be reckoned with! I just loved this power couple, no matter if they were physically together or not.
”Tae Hyun lived to be onstage. It was his calling, a place where the messy parts of his life melted away. The pulsing lights, the sweat dripping down his face, the ache in his muscles – those were signs he was truly alive and present in the moment. He poured his heart into every song, every note – each performance a raw and exhilarating experience.”
Another thing I enjoyed once again was that we got to see Tae Hyun’s life as an idol on tour and that the strong friendships between the MCs and the secondary characters still got a chance to shine. Naomi, Seong Woo, Seong Min and Tae Hyun’s sister, they all added so much fun to the series and I’ll miss those side-characters like crazy. They were all fleshed-out and had their own voices and I was such a huge fan of Naomi. This woman was awesome until the end and I honestly can’t help but wish for her to get an own series too! She would have deserved one. Naomi wasn’t just the constant voice of reason in the entire series but also such a badass Queen! I love strong female characters and her relationship with Jason was so beautiful. They were both extremely protective of each other and fiercely loyal. Jason couldn’t have found a better person to entrust his career and life to. Period. Considering all the adversities Jason and Tae Hyun had to face it was good to know that they always had reliable friends at their side.
Naomi’s smile was bittersweet. “You’re a handsome, talented, extremely wealthy man. You’ve never had to fight for things the way I have.” Jason wanted to protest, to claim he knew all about discrimination, being Asian and gay. But his arguments would’ve rang hollow. Those experiences, however painful, didn’t erase his privilege. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”
Conclusion:
“Idol Lives” was an amazing conclusion to and awesome series! I lived, laughed and cried with these characters and those books will always hold a special place in my heart. Up until this day it’s the only m/m k-pop romance I know of and it was such a pleasure to read this series. K.T. Salvo had me invested from the very first page and the fact they were able to hold my attention by always mixing up the plot and going for a different story angle is no small feat! I’m sad Tae Hyun’s and Jason’s story is over, but I’m definitely looking forward to read the authors next book!
Tae Hyun clenched his jaw, not bothering to hide the annoyance flashing across his face. “The strength of my relationship with Jason is based on mutual trust, Mr. Kang.” He wickedly smiled. “Surely you have someone you trust like that?” The room fell silent, the reporter’s face flushing a deep red as the other journalists exchanged knowing glances.

This was such a lovely ending to the series, but I’m so sad it’s over now! T_T I could have read even more about Jason and Tae Hyun because they are so amazing together. <3 For a last book this was very plot driven and I kinda loved that we got to see Jason & Tae Hyun being a force all by themselves. ;-)
Full RTC soon! First, I need to digest that this series is over. *sniff*

I got “Idol Lives” as an ARC from the author and NetGalley and I wanted to read this so badly you have no idea!!! Unfortunately, life got in my way… again and here I am, extremely late to the party but still super excited to finally read this book!
Jason and Tae Hyun are my k-pop babies and all I want, is for them to be happy and to have their well-deserved HEA! After the second suspenseful book I’m not sure what’s going to happen in here, but you can bet I’m going to enjoy every second of it. I don’t want this series to end, but I need to know how it ends!
One last ride with my favourite k-pop romance couple. T_T (I’m not ready!)
Disclaimer- I generally had a good time and I want more books in this niche to exist but I'm gonna ramble about a bunch of issues with this series (mostly the last two books):
The character development basically stops after book 1. I had high hopes for a Jason arc that I thought was being set up where he would start the series as a self-centered asshole, then swing wildly into trying to be the completely selfless model boyfriend in book 2, then realize that that isn't sustainable or healthy and find a balance where he can prioritize his own needs while also supporting Tae Hyung. Nope! He's just transformed into the selfless (if occasionally jealous and aggressive in a sexy way) boyfriend forever. He puts aside his acting career permanently to run his father's business and support Tae Hyung and he's fine with that I guess? I don't know why it was set up that he got a great movie offer if that was never going to pan out or even become a significant character beat. Also Jason's disregard for his own safety in book 2 is psychologically concerning in a way I thought was intentional ("I don't give a shit what happens to me") but I guess that was wish-fulfillment?
Jason becoming a billionaire seems so bad for the overall plot and vibe. I thought it was being set up that the tour would make or break Big Hammer's success and their ability to pursue their dreams but instead they just have unlimited money now ig. Like it doesn't matter if Tae Hyung's music is good because Jason can fund as many flop albums as he wants, and if Jason had the time to act again someday same applies there (but he won't which is a big bummer and I don't know why the impact of that wasn't dealt with). Jason is trapped in a job he doesn't enjoy and Tae Hyung will always have it undermining his success. Also, money troubles are good for driving tension (see book 1-none of this would have happened if Jason didn't need a paycheck)! As soon as I realized money was no object anymore it kind of killed the stakes for me.
I love a good sex scene, but the last two books in this series particularly really suffer from what feels like a quota of one sex scene every 40 pages without any regard for those scenes contributing anything to the plot or character development. By the end I was skimming them because I was getting bored by the same routine repeating while the plot was at a standstill.
(Spoiler) Tae Hyung is set up to be very unsure about getting married then decides with no build up or reasoning to say yes to Jason's proposal (presumably because the end of the series was fast approaching and the author wanted it to end in a wedding) "He wasn't sure if he was truly ready for marriage, for the weight of those vows, but at that moment, with Jason's shining eyes full of love and hope, it felt right." Honestly, it's giving divorced by 30.
KT Salvo’s Idol Lives is a heartfelt and satisfying conclusion to a whirlwind romance.
This slick and stylish tale is the culmination of Salvo’s debut trilogy, a fact that continues to amaze me, considering the author’s growth since their first book. While Salvo’s writing has evolved to incorporate more vivid scenic imagery alongside their trademark food and fashion descriptions, their style remains razor-sharp and to the point.
The romance between K-pop idol Woo Tae Hyun and American actor Jason Park has been sorely tested, and it shows. The pair, who’ve grown significantly since the first book, navigates life’s speed bumps with easy communication, even when forced apart for a significant portion of the book. This separation, a refreshing take on a common trope, tests the strength of their bond and their willingness to persevere. As with the second book, which veered from a sweet and intimate will-they-won’t-they into dark and thrilling K-drama action, Idol Lives steers into tense relationship and boardroom drama. It incorporates familiar tropes while retaining the spare, fresh, and dialogue-forward style that I’ve come to love from Salvo. Even Jason and Tae Hyun’s spicy intimacy has evolved, reflecting their growing comfort and familiarity.
I continue to appreciate Salvo’s inclusion of real-world issues among the over-the-top telenovela problems, including homophobia, emotional manipulation, and family drama. This grounds a story that could otherwise easily fly off the rails. And, of course, Salvo gives us the ultimate happily ever after that Jason and Tae Hyun deserve, a closing chapter that’s not just a conclusion but a celebration of their love and perseverance, sure to inspire tears of joy.
Overall, Idol Lives is a satisfying conclusion to a series that has matured alongside its characters. Salvo’s writing style, while still concise and focused on dialogue, now incorporates more description than in previous books. The relationship between Tae Hyun and Jason faces realistic challenges, and their communication and intimacy develop in a way that reflects their growing bond. Salvo’s inclusion of real-world issues adds depth, and the happy ending is well-deserved.
Enthralling third act in the continuing series featuring actor and K-pop celebrity MM romance
This is book 3 in a series featuring the same heroes, Jason Park and Woo Tae Hyun, who first met in book 1 when famous but tarnished actor Jason was hired to give acting lessons to K-Pop idol Tae Hyun. Their chemistry sparked and grew in secret behind the spotlight until it could not be contained and their love affair exploded through drama and a lot of fun antics. This book should be read after 1 and 2.
It’s an angsty series but anchored by these two men’s love for each other in the midst of their high-profile lives. They go through the wringer book over book but keep falling more in love as adversity tries to tear them apart but only makes them stronger. That’s book 3 too.
This time, Jason’s billionaire parents have just died, thrusting him over his head in dealing with his father’s massively powerful conglomerate right when Tae Hyun’s solo tour is taking off, setting the men apart at vulnerable times for both. With OM drama (NOT either MC’s fault, it’s not their doing) on Tae Hyun’s tour with subsequent tabloid nightmares, and corporate politics turning nasty on Jason’s side, the odds try to stack against them again, but these two are #endgoals and while there are doubts to be resolved, ultimately they don’t let miscommunication or other people tear down what they’ve got together.
It gets a little OTT and blows up kind of fast and furious, becoming melodramatic with some whiplash changes in the heroes' attitudes, but overall it’s fun and steamy and simmering with passion and emotion, and I enjoyed seeing these two together all over again. The bodyguards, family members, bodyguards who’ve become family members, found family of agents and dancers and more all round out this duo’s world, and while they face some sleazy and devious antagonists, they come through stronger for the battles.
TW for on-page suicide, secondary character.
HEA, celebrities in the spotlight—actor and K-pop star—continuing heroes in a series. No cheating or any others (OM drama does involve one very unwelcome surprise kiss). Recommended, as is the series.
My thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for the ARC; this is my free and impartial opinion.
IDOL LIVES is the conclusion to Salvo's Idol Romance trilogy. I note that this series should be read in order; they are NOT standalone books.
UGH I just love Jason and Tae Hyun so much. In this book, they're very much an established couple. Tae Hyun has just begun his tour, which I was very pleased we got to see so much of on-page, and Jason is left reeling after the news of his parents' sudden deaths at the end of book 2. In short, Major Stuff forces our MCs to separate at a time when, really they need each other most. So while they are physically separated for large sections of the book, the events that separate them are serious enough that it feels justified. Moreover, we get to see both their biggest insecurities brought to bear and also the strength of their love tested and, ultimately, strengthened. I really enjoy reading about couples who deal with and overcome conflict in the relationship (a fave trope is marriage in crisis), so I appreciated their fight. It was just series enough to be a meaningful addition to the book, and their reconciliation came quick enough to not take away from the joy of their love. Salvo knows just how long we want our MCs to be on the outs: not long. Once again, Jason and Tae Hyun are communication kings.
Like its predecessors, Idol Lives is all the over-the-top plot fun (but still nicely focused on the experiences of queer celebrity life, particularly for Tae Hyun) AND the deeply romantic heart of a K-drama. Three books later, I'm still so fascinated by the world Salvo has created and how satisfyingly fresh of an addition to the contemporary romance subgenre this series is. I've just had so much fun with this series.
Bonus? I learned at the end of the book that Salvo is continuing the series with a new book featuring a different MM couple, set to release in 2025. Can't wait!
Actual rating: 4.5 stars (really liked)
MAJOR thanks to Jetspace Studio and Netgalley for the eARC! #IdolLives is out on 8/6!
This is the 3rd and Final book in KT Salvo’s Idol Trilogy. Finally, Jason and Tae Hyun are both solidly together with plans for the future. Things are going their way when disaster strikes, throwing both of their worlds into Chaos. New friends and Old provide support during this difficult time but all is not what it seems with conflict lurking from many sides. I enjoyed this story that pulled everything from the 2 previous books together. It showed that relationships can go through strains and still pull out on the other side and that communication is the key to any type of relationship. Both men realize that at times they made bad choices with their actions, but in the end they were able to work things through. I found this series towards the beginning of my own K-Pop journey and really loved how the author showed how it's not all glitz and glamor for these entertainers. How just because you may be famous, you still want the love and acceptance from those who are most important in your lives. The writing style kept me glued to what happens next and I was thrilled that we may get to see these characters down the road again in other series. If you are a KPop or KDrama fan, I highly recommend this Idol Romance series. I will look forward to what comes next from KT Salvo.
Idol Lives was an enjoyable conclusion to Jason and Tae-hyun's story. It perhaps lacked a little of the impact of the first two books and was fairly predictable, but it was still a compelling conclusion, well paced and ultimately satisfying, with some steamy scenes set amidst the action in a way that didn't feel gratuitous. The book does really heavily on context from the early two volumes, though, so this is a series you do need to read in order if you want to get the most out of it. I am giving this particular volume 4 stars, although the series overall gets 4.5 stars from me. Recommended to gay romance fans who also love K-pop and/or K-drama.
I received this book as a free eBook ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
They are pop stars that invite attention but the problem with that attention and all of the other things that comes with that fame is that it can make keeping their relationship at the center so hard. This couple has fought so hard for not only their careers but for their love for one another. And just when it seems that they are in a good place, a tragedy, a tour, and too many old and new people around test their bond with one another at exactly the wrong time. They are human so there is strain and conflict, but it was also good to see that they meant enough to one another to work through the tough stuff and come out on the other side still together. This was such a good book to end our time with Tae Hyun and Jason on. I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Okay, so this book took me for a ride. I was fully prepared for Tae Hyun and Jason's story to end after the second book, so imagine my surprise when I got to the end of book two and got thrown for a rollercoaster-sized loop. I didn't know what to expect from this story but I am definitely happy with what I got. There were multiple times during this book when I found myself yelling at my Kindle about what the characters were doing. Also, the ending of this book made me happy sob because FINALLY, my boys got their happy ending. I loved this series and I can not wait to see what else this author has to offer.
Have been waiting for this since I learned there would be a third part to Jason and Tae’s story. I am obsessed with this well written series. This story begins right where book two left off and just never lets up. The stressors in this story are a little different than in previous books (it’s more about two people coming to terms with their very different careers than fighting a record label and finding their voice) but the way these two characters handle it all is brilliant. Overall I downloaded the book as soon as midnight arrived and only put it down when I had to. (Sleep and plane flights) loved it.
It's been a wild ride with my boys Jason and Tae Hyun, and I was curious about how Salvo planned to top the first two books in this series. By shifting gears again, apparently. It's straight from the bedroom to the boardroom in Idol Lives, where Jason reckons with the death of his parents on the cusp of Tae Hyun's solo tour. Pulling our boys apart was a genius move, giving me all the angsty tension I craved without the messy breakup. And that ending? I've imagined that scene for three books, and Salvo still blew me away. Can't wait for their next series!
This is my 1st book in this series. Seeing it has the same couple I should have started with book 1 but I like going backward if I find it interesting enough. I enjoy relationship drama tremendously when it is well done, especially with an established couple. This book was interesting although the small conflict was too quickly resolved. What I didn't like and put me off was the constant use of Hyung among the 2 lovers. From watching BTS and K drama I understand the word means "brother", "older brother" to be exact. Why would I call my lover brother? That was weird AF for me
Well I can honestly say that this series got better with each book. It took me ages to read the first book but this final instalment- I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what happens with Jason and Tae Hyen. Their story has been varied and this was no different. You need to read the books in order because this won’t make sense without what has come previously. Great detail and an intriguing storyline. Well done K.T.
This is the third and final book in the author’s debut Idol trilogy about Jason and Tae Hyun and it is another great read, the story kept my attention from the beginning to the end and had plenty of action amid the drama and ties up all the loose ends from the previous books, this story shows the importance of communication and how it helps to achieve a Hea. Looking forward to reading what comes next from this author.
The author has taken Jason and Tae Hyun's story and turned up the angst in this one. There are dangers and temptations all over the place from newfound wealth to newfound popularity and a tour with some interesting and tempting side characters. It takes real talent to make a couple's possible break up feel entirely possible without making either character unlikeable or without making us completely doubt the eventual HEA. Salvo has done that magnificently here.
Jason and Tae-hyun are my comfort ship so I relished a return to their story. Salvo always keeps me guessing in their books so I had no idea what to expect with Idol Lives, but it was another triumph from my a fave MM romance author. I've treasured every moment witnessing Jason and Tae-hyun's love grow over the course of this enticing series.
After reading the three books, I feel like I'm left hanging for an end. Time for Jason to further his career in acting. He showed an interest in a script he read a few times knowing the main character was written for him.
An inheritance is going to make their lives more complicated as others want to ruin it for him. They had worked hard for their relationship to be the best it can be. Can they fight their way through it all? How will they get on? Will they get through it all? See how they get on
I've been in love with Jason and Taehyun since the first book and this final book solidified my love for the characters, their story, and K.T. Salvo. Keep up the Lord's work, K.T.! I'm excited for what comes next.
This book was great! Very exciting and fast-paced, with enough intrigue and drama to keep me guessing. I loved the end, it really wrapped up Tae Hyun and Jason’s story with a beautiful HEA.
Review coming soon! I just need some time to work through all my thoughts and feelings at the end of this amazing series.
------------------------ Update 7/17/24 - I have processed my thoughts, but I expect there will be future additions to this review.
“If you’re here, I’m here.” While this line is said by Tae Hyun to Jason, the sentiment applies to me and books written by KT Salvo. So, imagine how happy I am to know that while Jason and Tae Hyun’s story has come to an end, the Idol Romance world will continue with another couple! Is it 2025 yet? ------------------------ Why do I keep comparing the Idol Romance series to K-dramas and Thai BLs, you ask?
Because reading this series is like reading a beloved K-drama ─ first everything is meet-cute-fall-in-love-fluffy (Idol Minds) ─ next up is the super shady, dark and murdery part (Idol Moves) ─ and the third act, just when you are feeling safe and happy for your couple, WHAM! the unexpected and painful storyline shows up ─ I’m looking at you Idol Lives. To wrap it up in the last hour, they all live happily ever after… except for the bad guys, because f#ck them!
The fact that Jason and Tae Hyun keep running off to Phuket adds a little Thai BL flavor to the classic K-drama recipe. I love the recipe! 💜
A few favorite parts, because for copyright reasons I can’t type out the whole book here ;) ~Jason and Tae Hyun ─ and the family they have built together ~Woo Tae Hyun and his adorable red ears ~Jason and Naomi’s relationship ~the turn this story took for a moment into a boardroom K-drama ~J-pop & P-pop boy groups as openers on Tae Hyun’s world tour ~tour stops in Tokyo, Taipei, Manila, & Bangkok ~behind the scenes of a K-pop concert ~returning to Phuket ─ great to see Del and Run again
Recommended for: readers looking for something similar to your favorite K-dramas; steamy romance readers
Content warning: emotional abuse and manipulation, homophobia, violence including physical assault and a death by suicide
Thank you to the author and Jetspace Studio Publishing for an advanced copy of this book. I received a digital ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
------------------------ Update 8/8/25
I know Jason and Tae Hyun must be exhausted, just reading about all these shenanigans and international flights makes me tired. These two are catching drama coming from all sides and struggling with the distance between them.
Now that everyone is safe and happy; let's get into my favorite quotes.
pg. 5 Jason: Are you going back? Tae Hyun: No, not without you. If you're here, I'm here.
pg. 38 Jason to his bodyguard: For fuck's sake Seong Hyeon. I know you like to do your strong, stoic thing. But, just this once, could you drop the formality and just tell me what the fuck's on your mind? Seong Hyeon pursed his lips again. (What a drama queen. 😄)
pg. 91 Seong Woo: It's not like we don't have any skeletons in our closets, either. Jason: Speak for yourself. My skeletons have been keeping gossip bloggers in business for years.
pg. 121 Jason: You've always been an asshole to me, and I'm still here. Naomi: I was never an asshole to you. Jason: What did you call me that one time? Naomi: A simple, predictable, alcohol-infused manchild.
pg. 200 The tabloid press lived and died on idol gossip, and they ate well.
Naomi, Brightstar President/former business manager, and Jason are endlessly entertaining. I love the way they support each other. Highlights are on pages 62-65, 163-165, and 289.
Woo Tae Hyun's life may have been in danger in Idol Moves, but I hurt for him more this time around because the threat to him is not tangible. Watch him ignore all the red flags on pages 52, 107-110, 200, and 159.
Idol Lives was an amazingly compassionate and K-drama filled conclusion! This book showed that even though you are trying to change and improve yourself, it takes longer than a month or year. Mistakes will be made and lessons learned, but how you accept and grow from them is what matters.
It had so much heart and love in the end that it made me even sadder that the series was ending. I really hope Salvo does new books with the side characters especially Taehyun’s sister, Yunseo!
It takes a great couple to keep me invested for three whole books. It takes an even greater one to make me wish there was a fourth! Jason and Tae Hyun are definitely one of those couples. It was exciting and satisfying to watch how their relationship developed over the series. One factor I very much appreciated was how much detail Salvo put into that, including how their s3xy times evolved from quickies in the poolhouse to long, steamy sessions with sizzling foreplay. Salvo was already on my must read list, but learning that we'll be getting a new story with a new couple next year warms my BL-loving heart.
