She believes in fairytales. I’m here to show her the world is full of monsters—starting with me.
Cooper
They call me a beast.
They’re not wrong.
It’s why the NHL Stars released me from my contract
It’s why no one has picked me up.
And it’s why I’m stuck at some NHL-affiliated college, teaching freshmen how to ice skate.
Quite frankly, it’s bullish—t.
Especially when I meet her.
Everly Hawthorne is the quintessential definition of innocence. She’s also one of the reasons my life has been hell.
Her father and my mother had some sordid love affair, and when I caught them, I told my father.
And my father?
Well, there’s a reason for these scars on my face.
But she has no idea who I am.
That’s about to change.
This girl has been sheltered her whole life. And now, I’m about to show her that life isn’t a fairytale and there’s no such thing as Prince Charming. It’s only monsters from here in out, and I’m the one she has to contend with.
Everly
Starting Crestwood Academy has been the best time of my life. Being homeschooled all my life, where every move has been controlled, was a blessing, but now I’m ready to experience life on my own terms.
The last person I expect to run into is Cooper Sinclaire.
Apparently, he’s some big shot NHL player that got into trouble and was sent here as punishment to teach freshmen how to ice skate.
Including me.
He’s rude, arrogant, and cruel… and I don’t understand why. He even made another skater cry because he’s unnecessarily insulting.
All I want is to fall in love.
I want to meet Prince Charming and fall in love and all the things that go with that.
And I think I have.
Zach is the skate guy, a frat boy, and drop dead gorgeous. When he invites me to a party, I’m over the moon.
This is it.
Until everything goes horribly wrong.
And the person who’s there for me is Cooper himself.
I thought he was a monster… but I realize he’s so much more than that.
Boots & Scars is a stand-alone revenge dark hockey romance featuring a tortured older Alpha hockey player and the unassuming innocent who is absolute romantic sunshine to his angsty grumpy. It has a guaranteed HEA and no cliffhanger.
Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I'm a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says 'like' more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I'm a 23 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I'm a writer. Like, for real.
Wow I absolutely devoured this one! Such a great book & as always Heather's writing is so captivating! The story is so dark and twisty but also you can't help but constantly want the happily ever after for Cooper and Everly. Cooper Sinclaire, the dark, scared and damaged MMC is nothing short of being a beast and full of cruel words to everyone in his path... Until Everly Hawthorne comes into his life. Everly is the MFC and she is the hopeless romantic who just wants to see the good in the world and people. She's filled with light and joy and endless possibilities. Boots & Scars was definitely a solid read but please check out the trigger warnings before you dive in as it does involve some pretty heavy topics. Another epic dark romance by Heather!
Boots & Scars is Book 7 of The Crestwood Elite Hockey Academy Series. And it just keeps getting better and better! Be sure to read the trigger warnings as there is rape, assault, drugs, and other dark themes. This one is an OTT, opposites-attract, age-gap, grumpy-sunshine, enemies-to-lovers, dark romance. Everly is a girl who has been homeschooled and sheltered for most of her life. She is naive and a complete ray of sunshine looking for her fairytale love story at the academy. Cooper is a hunky, grumpy, ex NHL player nicknamed "the Beast" for his temper. He was raised by an abusive father and has both physical and emotional scars. After being kicked out of the league, he is being punished and teaching skating at the academy. Cooper and Everly have numerous connections, and Cooper just wants to bring her down. But when her prince charming turns out to be a monster, Cooper is there to pick up the pieces. Can Cooper protect her and show her not all men are evil? Can Everly show Cooper his scars don't define him, and he's worthy of love? Cooper was so nasty early on, but I loved that Everly called him out on his behavior. Their romance was a bit of a slow burn, but when it ignited, it was an inferno. They had insane chemistry, and we do get a happy ending, but this was another dark roller-coaster ride getting there. I loved it.

Cooper Sinclaire almost killed a man and lost his contract because of it. Everly is the sweet innocent young woman with a heart of gold. Cooper has it in his head that he’s ugly and not a good guy but for Everly he’s her perfect man. When they first meet he’s rude and abrasive but she wears him down with her positivity and her gentleness. This was my favorite book of the series, these two together are perfect. As much as he tries to fight it at first Everly wins him over and breaks down his walls. Everly goes through a horrible situation and Cooper is there to help pick the pieces up. Once the spice hits in the book 😮💨😮💨🫠
Cooper’s actions on the ice when he gave in to his anger against another player have ended his hockey career. He now finds himself at Crestwood Elite teaching students to skate whose words and actions have him feared by everyone except Everly.
Everly has been sheltered her whole life and this is her chance to be independent however she is inexperienced and always sees the best in everyone which at times puts her in difficult situations. Despite the way that Cooper treats her he is there when she needs someone the most and makes her feel safe.
As much as Cooper is infuriated by Everly’s view of life it also makes him want to protect her while in her own way she doesn’t hesitate to call him out on his behavior. Putting aside how different they are they are also exactly who the other needs in their life.
Boots & Scars (Book 7 of The Crestwood Elite Hockey Academy Series) by Heather C Myers is a dark romance novel. Despite being a hockey romance the author has come up with something new and exciting. She made you love both characters after everything they have been through.
Cooper is definitely on the grumpy side as he knocks over anything in his path. He was in NHL but was demoted to teaching at this elite school. On top of that he runs into Everly. She awakens something in him that has been tied up in thorns for a very long time. She is, determined and just to find the man of her dreams!
I really loved this book. It was less dark and unhinged than the majority of the books in the series, but honesty, I needed the more “normal” aspect after the crazy rollercoaster this series is being so far. And I am saying it in the best way – I LOVED every single book that I’ve read in this series. This is more of a grumpy-sunshine story – a story of two completely different people that find their way to each other in the most unexpected and reluctant way.
I loved every single line of this book. I really liked Everly. She is a completely sheltered girl that tries to find her own path now that she is in college and out of her mother’s suffocating protection – a protection that comes with ulterior motives, I might add. She has a very optimistic view of life – even when life bites her in the worst way a girl can imagine at some point in the story. And this doesn’t make her naïve like everybody around her (Cooper included) try to convince her that she is. She simply is that strong and has a spine of steel – because it needs guts to find the best in people – and to the most heinous situations. She doesn’t break – she only emerges stronger from the ashes. I admired her for that. Cooper is grumpy – and for a good reason. His life seems to be out of rails at the moment. His hokey career is as good as finished because he simply defended his ex-fiancée’s honor. An ungrateful, gold digger of a fiancée that is. He has scars (outside and inside) that run deep. He is called to teach hokey to kids at the college that are trying to get credit for physical education. Something simple and mundane for a (former) NHL player, and something he absolutely despises but has no choice but to do. This is where he and Evelyn meet and the story begins. And their journey is an amazing rollercoaster of events and revelations that left me breathless. I felt for both of them. I cried, I cheered, I swooned and wanted to strangle people (God, so many people are in the wrong in this story…). I couldn’t put my kindle down. A 5-star story in my opinion.

Everly is looking for a fairytale, someone to sweep her off her feet that she can fall in love with and take her away from the controlled life that she has lived to this point. Going off to Crestwood Academy gave her that chance to spread her wings but because she has been so shelters, she doesn’t know that monsters sometimes wear masks to hide themselves. So when she think she finds her perfect guy, she is in for a rude awakening. However I do really appreciate that even though she is sheltered, she gets back down after being shoved down and shows that she has some feistiness to her.
Cooper has some scars on the outside but a lot more of them are on the inside thanks to his upbringing but also circumstances like how he was released from the NHL for beating up another player (even though there was a story to why). Its easier for him to adopt the mean and rude persona than to get close to anyone but I feel its to protect himself. But Cooper finds himself at Crestwood Academy being given a second chance by teaching freshmen how to ice skate. This is where he meets Everly and he is flat out nasty to her.
I really enjoyed watching the two of them grow on each other and both end up being the support that the other needed in their lives. Cooper definitely needed someone to make him realize his self worth and Everly needed someone like Cooper who put her first. This book was a winner in my opinion and I can’t wait for the rest of the series.
Everly has been homeschooled her whole life. After her father died, her mother did everything she could to protect her from the outside world. That is, until she attends college.
Cooper has had a rough past. His parents divorced after a nasty affair on his mother’s part. After he got kick out of the NHL for attacking another player who talked against his ex-fiancée, he is tasked to teach skating to college freshmen.
When Everly meets Cooper, she doesn’t take anything from him. Not his rude words or names he calls her. She meets him head on without fail. After she gets attacked, she finds herself at Coopers front door. He vows that no one will ever touch her again.
But what will they do when everything comes crashing down?
This book had me addicted from the beginning! Everly’s rose colored glasses and Coopers “everything sucks” attitude made some great banter! At times I wanted to smack Everly for being so naive to the outside world, but then I had to remind myself that some people really do see the glass half-full all the time. They see the good in everyone even when it’s hard. It was refreshing to see a FMC not become so hardened after meeting the MMC. I would definitely recommend this book!.

Each story gets better and better. We had the Wolfe brothers now we have Sinclaire brothers, legacies from their hateful father. The man throw burning hot coffee on Copper as a child because he told his dad what he saw that his mom did and with whom. Everyone wonders why Copper is the way he is, but what he went through after being on the NHL team and the cutting his contract, the lying ex-fiancée, no wonder the man gets meaner and grumpier and keeps himself closed off. Everly is the complete opposite of Cooper, she was raise by her mom, her dad, well long story and how the two families connected, her dad was/is a NHL trainer and trained Coopers dad, plus a different connection. She was raised to believe and see the good in everyone and naive about college guys, most guys in general.
What would have been great was Everly’s meeting with her father, I would have love to read what happened there…
Now will the youngest Sinclaire get back his woman, Holly, the Deans daughter & Everly’s best friend??
Tough triggers, rape, Everly was rapped during a chapter and was drugged, by a frat boy for some sickly crown. Also there is abuse, the frat boys house buddies will kidnap & bet up Everly for what she and Cooper did. Hardcore cursing well, can’t blame Cooper for his look how he was raise and try to protect himself from others.

Sweet innocent Everly I've been home schooled off her life. Her mother told her that her father passed away right after she was born. She finally goes off to college seeking her own independence. She sees the good and everyone is unable to comprehend that there's bad people out there in the world. Cooper is a disgrace former NHL player who is now teaching freshman's how to ice skate at the college. He has scars on his face that makes him believe that nobody will ever truly want him or love him. Him and Everly bump heads all the time. But she can't help her attraction. After something horribly traumatizing happened to her at a frat party she showed up on Cooper's doorstep. From there his protective instincts took over. This book was darker than I even expected because I don't read the trigger warnings. Kind of wish I had because at one point I almost got physically ill. But it was still a very well written book. I love Cooper and Everly and I hope that I will see them appear in future books. I feel like the majority of what happened to her could be blamed on her mother. Because she did her a serious disservice by Sheltering her from the world world and that left her open to predators.

"I've never had anyone like you in my life, I never thought I was worthy of it."
"I'd be anything she wanted me to be."
"I felt like a dog being pulled around by a leash. But the truth was, I’d follow that girl to 🔥 and back… and I’d thank her for it."
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
Everly has been sheltered her whole life. But once she meets Cooper, all he wants to do is corrupt her soul.
𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
This has to be my favorite book out of this collection. The push and pull of this couple was fantastic. Cooper was so dark and mean and Everly was pure sunshine and helpfulness. Even with all his grumpiness I swooned all over the place over this man. The plots are always written so well and so much angst. Cooper is now on the list of red flag men I'd jump into the ring for. I love love this series, the men and the women.
𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬:
• Age gap • Extreme grump x sunshine • Scarred mmc • Possessive • He falls HARD • Suspense
🏒 Dark romance 🏒 Former disgraced NHL Player MMC x Innocent sheltered FMC 🏒 Age gap 🏒 Grumpy (understatement of the century) x Sunshine 🏒 Opposites attract 🏒 Touch her and 💀
Ok yep, favourite book in the series so far for sure. Cooper and Everly were great characters and the way Heather’s writing style portrayed them brought them both to life on the page and kept me fully immersed from start to finish. I ended up pulling an all-nighter to get through this one as I couldn’t put it down. I loved that Everly kept her positive attitude to life throughout the book despite the ups and down she came across. Whilst Cooper is the definition of a walking red flag, if that man said jump I’d be asking how high in a heartbeat.
I need all of my books to have this vibe at this point to be honest, I’m living for it and can’t wait to see what’s next to come from Heather’s world. If I could rate this higher than 5 stars I would.
Cooper and Everly. Cooper is forced to teach at Crestwood due to something that happened during one of his games. Cooper teaches the students how to ice skate. Then comes Everly. She is sweet and far too innocent for this world. She was sheltered her whole life and led to believe that life is a fairy tale. Her father and Cooper’s mother had an affair and when Cooper told his father he scarred his face. Cooper is determined to show her that life isn’t all fairytales, but when the unthinkable happens he is there for her.
This book had its moments where I was shocked, sad, and heartbroken for Everly. Everly is an innocent girl who was sheltered from the real world her whole life. She believes in the goodness of people regardless of everything. Cooper was dealt a hard life especially after discovering the affair between their parents. He is grumpy and flawed, but I saw his redeeming qualities from the beginning. I really enjoyed this book and I am dying to read the next one.
Might be my favorite Crestwood Elite Academy novel yet!! I got a little bit of a Beauty & the beast vibe from the novel, which might be why I loved it SO much! Everly, our FMC, is lovely and a little sheltered, due to being homeschooled, but definitely trying to reach out and enjoy the world. She falls for Mr. Wrong and of course, Cooper, out hot hockey teacher is there to swoop in to be a beastly savior! It’s a dark, delicious story that will have you enthralled! As always, please check trigger warnings before reading because it is a dark romance. However, it is great for those that like spicy dark romances with handsome hockey guys! 🏒 (And hockey season is coming up-great time to start already swooning over some players!).

This is a yes, hell yes, give me more kinda read! Cooper Sinclaire is morally grey magic, his touch her and die vibe is spectacular, the sparks between him and Everly are crazy good, his grump to her sunshine and her innocence to his jadedness frustrating and comically fantastic, and when he realizes he’d be better for her and she’d cross a few lines for him…oh my damn!! Cooper is the perfect morally grey anti-hero, love every single thing about him but especially his only for her vibe that is always front and center with Everly and the way he would throw everything away if it meant she was safe and that anyone who’d hurt her was punished. So freaking perfect! Everly took me a minute to love but by the end I was all in, her hidden strength, and the lines she’s willing to cross for Cooper, so fantastic. A read I absolutely recommend grabbing!
Everly is a completely sheltered by her mother and she tries to find her own path now that she is in college and out of her mother’s hand she is sunshine and positive about life Cooper is grumpy and jaded his father is really a horrible person. His ex is trying to ruin his life and career He has scars a that run deep inside and out for the way he was raised.. The new Dean make him teach hockey to kids at the college that are trying to get credit for physical education. they meet each other there. Both try to deny there feeling for each other especially how cooper is rude but when she gets hurt and runs to him for help, he will protect her and ħuřt how ever touch her.
Absolutely adoring this series! Loving too that I don’t need to read them in order to enjoy them. This one was dark in places and spicy as heck in the rest and I couldn’t put it down.
Everly was shielded by her mum her whole life and arriving at college and going through what she did in search of love opened her eyes and made her realise not everyone is good or honest. Yet she still tries to see the best in people and is fiercely loyal to those she cares about.
Cooper feels like a washed up has been at 28 after losing his career over a fight. He ends up teaching kids to skate and comes into contact with Everly and nothing is ever the same again. His ex Ashley needs a kick in the teeth as do the scummy frat boys! Highly recommend this series to all hockey and spicy romance lovers. Check your trigger warnings, there are some topics some might struggle with. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series now 🖤
Another intense installment to the Crestwood series that will keep you turning the pages. Please note your triggers before reading. Cooper had been knocked from the NHL because of losing his temper on a rival. Everly is an innocent and very naive student. When they meet their lives crash together and they find healing in each other. I found myself telling Everly no no no and then cheering as she overcame. Cooper, ever the protector, held my heart. Loved as they faced the world and sheltered in each other.

Favourite so far Ms Myers again delivered a dark, gritty and steamy work of art. Cooper is a broody, deep and damaged individual. Everly could not be more opposite - bright, naive, positive and sweet. The interactions between the characters is nothing short of magnetic and magical. I loved how she didn’t let his bad behaviour faze her. I loved reading how for her, he became a different man, he showed who he truly could be, he showed his heart and was there for her when she needed him. With sparks, banter, steam, angst, emotion, character growth and healing combined with romance and love. Check the warnings because this is the dark side of a fairytale romance, but it is worth it.
Everly has been homeschooled her entire life now she is stepping onto a college campus to see what the world has to offer. Cooper is a former hockey star that is teaching at the college because of a scandal he was involved in. He is rough and rude but something about him draws Everly. However, when something happens to Everly she turns to him for help? Will this change things between them? Will he end up in more trouble?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

Cooper Sinclaire almost beat a man to death for talking about his now ex-fiance and was released from his NHL contract as a result. He's forced to teach a group of freshman how to skate. Everly, a homeschooled good girl is in his class, and she pushes every button she can find. But she can't deny the attraction she feels to Cooper, despite his rude demeanor and scarred face. Cooper tries to ignore his feelings for Everly, but when she gets hurt and runs to him for help, he'll burn the world down to protect her and keep her safe.
The sinner and the saintly. Wow. This book was a whole carnival of red flags. Cooper is an obsessive, possessive alpha with some very violent tendencies, but they manifest in a delicious ‘touch her and die’ kind of way. Everyly could have been like every naïve, fluffy-bunny heroine, but in spite of her unfamiliarity with the world at large, she has a core of strength to her that she uses to defend the underdog. Frequently she sees that as Cooper. I kind of hated the things this pair went through in this book, but I adored the way it brought them closer and forced the truth to light. I can’t wait to see what adventure the authors have for us next. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book through Booksprout.
Cooper got his scars from telling the truth of his mother's affair, he's a monster on the ice and off, and he sets his sights on Everly, a blast from the past. Every has gotten freedom from homeschooling and wants to spread her wings and find her prince charming only she finds Cooper, teaching at the college, he might become her savior but he's no prince charming. Well written steamy engaging, desires, dark themes, hockey sports romance. A great addition to the series!
I stayed up all night to read this story. After each chapter, I said I was going to bed. Didn't happen until I read the very end. It was that good. Surly Sinclaire, with the messed up childhood and the ethereal Everly, too good to be in this wild, mixed-up world. Everly may have been naive, but she had a backbone made of steel. I loved this story.

Cooper is considered a monster on and off the ice. When he is released from his hockey team, he finds himself teaching at an academy where the daughter of the man that had an affair with his mother goes. It starts them along their path and when she finds herself in trouble it is Cooper that comes to her aid. Will their path lead them to happiness.

This book had me “ hooked “ no pun intended from the first few chapters. This was the best enemies to lovers storyline. While some may feel Everly is to much of a goodie two shoes - really she just has such a positive attitude others can emulate- while Cooper is the ultimate bad boy! They shouldn’t work but when he becomes all over the top protective it’s a SCORE one for love !
Great read - great series !

This story pulled me in right from the start. Cooper and Everly are complete opposites which makes for some great witty banter. It was great seeing these two grow on each other. Their story was a bit of a slow burn, but man their chemistry was insane. This was a great read and I can't wait for the next one.

Literally read this book in one day. As soon as I started reading got into the third chapter and I was hooked. Heather did it again with another amazing hockey publication for this series. It was a bit of a slow burn in terms of physical spice but there was so much other spice that it kept you hooked. Make sure to read the triggers prior to reading. Can’t wait to read another one of her books. 💚
