My goal this year is to gain more contentment, and Becoming a Woman Whose God is Enough has helped me greatly in reaching that goal. It showed me how to give my dreams, personality, and life over to God in a deeper way than I've ever done before. It helped me learn how to seek God above everything and everyone else. It really put things in a better perspective for me. Anyone looking to grow deeper in love with God should read this book. May His love pour out on you.

Powerful study. No "new" lessons in this study, but rather a reinforcement to take what we know and live like we believe it.

An incredible Bible study for growing in our dependence on God and learning that He truly is enough and nothing we do is of ourselves. This 11-chapter book is perfect for groups (I read it for my church ladies’ Sunday School class) or for individuals (I gained so much from my own personal study time).

“God is El Shaddai, the almighty God. As our Creator-Redeemer-Immanuel, He has proven that He is for us by His unfailing love and personal involvement in our lives. His grace and presence are enough for any need, any trial, any circumstance, any sickness, any hurt, any moment. He is the only One who is constant, faithful, and able to rescue and redeem our suffering.
He desires relationship and intimacy with His children. He is an all-sufficient, all-powerful, all-loving, all-sovereign God, and He wants to prove to us that He is indeed enough. "Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?" (Romans 8:32).” - Cynthia Heald, page 168

This women's Bible Study book offers some helpful fundamentals for knowing who God is, and also provides several solid quotes from great Christian minds throughout history. Unfortunately, there was a lot of Scripture that seemed taken out of context, misapplied, or inserted in order to draw shallow conclusions about our relationship to God. In addition, Heald quotes from the Message and often encourages memorizing the Message version of a Scripture. For those who do not know, the Message Bible is not a translation but an English-based paraphrase. I rate this book two stars because it did hold out some good chunks to think about, and it promoted plenty of discussion in the study I was a part of: but it seemed to lack solid biblical context. Single verses taken from various parts of Scripture to support a point cannot feed the soul - however, this is typical for women's Bible study material.

One of the best Bible studies I have ever done. So much truth gleaned. I am going back over it to review it and recall all I have learned. I would highly recommend it!

Very good study. I was worried at first that it would be outdated or that the author would not be relatable as she is older. However, I found that she has a talent for pulling together salient quotes (C.S. Lewis, Charles Spurgeon, Tim Keller) to compliment the Bible verses she has chosen to teach. Very enjoyable and suprisingly timely.

I was recommended to read this book after talking to a mentor of mine! I really love how genuine and honest Heald is. Would definitely be a good Bible study to go through with a small group of women!

This is a Bible study book and one I am considering doing. It covers the understanding needed to make God the center and core of your life by understanding who he is.

This is my second time reading this book. I had read it previously on my own over a longer span of time, but this time I did it as a Bible study with some high school girls over the course of 5-6 weeks.

Why I would continue to recommend this book and probably read it again in the future: The content in this book is so vital to our walk with the Lord. Being a woman whose God is enough means that regardless of your circumstances, regardless of what you have or don't have, regardless of who you think you are or aren't- as long as you are trusting in God- it is enough. What this book does is reminds us of who God is. Faith is only as good as the object it is in. We studied all of the reasons why we can know that God is enough for us- and there are plenty. We learned how to identify when we are thinking or behaving as if God is not enough so we can catch ourselves and remind ourselves of the power, sovereignty, love, justice, truth, provision, and restoration that we find in our Lord, Creator and sustainer of all things. The truths you encounter in this book are ones you will need daily because as humans we are constantly battling our desire to be our own god, to do things our own way, to doubt God, to question his love and his purposes. Every single day we need to wake up saying- "No matter what happens today, God, you are enough for me because I know who you are, and I know that you love me. And I choose to walk in those truths today." There is nothing more important than that- it gives us the correct view of God and our relationship to Him and reminds us that we need him and we can trust him. It also provides us with the appropriate lens to see and process our world through. We can live in confidence and in hope because our God is enough for us.

How it was set up: The study has several questions for each chapter with Scriptures to look up- which I liked and didn't like. I like that it gets you in your Bible, the girls commented that they became more familiar with their Bible. I didn't like that some of the verses didn't seem like the best choices for the particular questions or we had a hard time seeing a connection. The author included lots of thought provoking and encouraging quotations from well-known theologians. There was also a section detailing a Biblical example relating to the chapter of a time when God was enough and when the person acted in a way thinking he wasn't enough. Then the author included her own thoughts more in narrative form at the end of each chapter. There were several further discussion questions to wrap up each section.

What we thought: We didn't always use all of the questions in our discussion time but there were plenty of questions to choose from that brought on good, meaningful conversation. We liked the quotes she included throughout. All of the Scripture-looking-up made the study a little more time-consuming and tedious. And of course the content was important and relevant for both myself as well as the younger girls.

I enjoyed this book because I was able to go through it with a good friend of mine! But looking at the book itself, it's fine. Simply because I didn't read the title fully, I was unaware it was a Bible Study when I first picked it up, but it still proved to be a helpful read. There were some parts that required discernment on our part since Heald made some statements and some assertions that I don't believe are biblically accurate, but the basic gospel message and the right response were all there so it's not an issue of salvation.

Because of the format as a Bible study, I would recommend going through this book with somebody. Even if contentment is not an issue that you struggle with personally, the topics covered are very wide and I truly believe there's something in here for every woman.

This is a good book for a new Christian. You get into the word and it's not too difficult or too much homework.
