(｡•́︿•̀｡)♡ It started off adorable, and ended with such a heartwrenching comforting bittersweetness that makes me ugly sobbed from the final chapter until I closes the book. A simple yet absolutely wonderful contemporary romance with memory loss and second chance theme, characters with royalty background, and in addition, it also focuses on self healing and grief.
This is a tale between two 28 year old roommates: Winter, a bachelor degree student in physics, and Logan, a PhD student in astrophysics. Their relationship is just platonic, but they genuinely care for one another. One day, an anonymous poisoned-pen letter were being spread around claiming that Winter 'cheated' her way in getting good marks because she's living with her professor, Mr. Weinstein. She was shocked because she never know him personally, and this causes her to feel really down as could get penalize and the rumour can effect her studies. Seeing her in the state, her actual roommate, Logan took a very good care of her, cheered her up and ensure her that things will be okay, and this is the point where she catches feelings for him. As the letter has reached out to the campus management, she and Mr. Weinstein was called to defend themselves and deny the rumours with proof, but to Winter's surprise, her professor's words went against the 'truth'. But what exactly is the truth? Who even is her professor and what is his motive to 'lie'? Why does everything have to involve her? And what about Logan, her actual roommate? — this is a story about learning the truth, self discovery, second chances, and acceptance of for who you are, and the people around you. This is a story of Winter, and Logan.
To begin with, truthfully I don't really know how to write a review for this story without spoiling anything, it's just a story that you have to READ ON YOUR OWN and EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF what is it about! So, If you wish to proceed, this review will CONTAIN SOME HINTS and VAGUE SPOILER for the storyline ya!
Again, this story is quite simple jak, from the surface, it looks like a cute funsie story about a girl falling in love with the husband, and relearning about one another through their short 3 week dates and then overcoming some hurdles and issues along once flowers started to bloom between them.
But on a deeper level, this story is more complex than that. It's a story of a husband's effort and sacrifice mirroring the one of his wife's in his past, his willingness to do the craziest things beyond our minds, leaving his important position back at home, furthering his studies for the second time, changing his personas— just for him to be close to her, just to make her remember, just considering the traumatic episodes and taking things slow, all just for the love for his wife. Beyond his silly doings and goofy personality, he is just lonely and filled with grief, over the lost of 'his wife', the death of his 'family' at the end of the day, he is the only one that remembers, having to restrain his own feelings, yet he has to be the stronger person, and being close with his wife became his coping mechanism, her presence make things better for him.
On the other hand, there's Winter, what she knows about herself isn't even entirely the truth at all, what she thinks is her having a simple solo life, just a student taking her degree and reaching out for her dreams... it isn't just that. It's a moment of rediscovery for her, a scary one at that. Here, she had to discover that everyone had to keep you in the dark, just to protect you mentally. Finding out the guy she's roommate with for over a year is not just some guy. Finding out that she is someone's wife and mother, but, she has lost all of it at the same time. Then now came the part where she has to overwhelmly accept her sudden 'new' role as someone important's wife, while still wanting to prioritize her studies and personal dream, what a Winter have always wanted. Despite everything, she still chose to believe, believe in all of it, while believing in herself, in truth and in her current self.
I found that their relationship is just so admirable, their tolerance for one another, their sacrifices, the give and take, they did them all for the love for each other. Oh, and it kinda touched me seeing Winter liking and loving her same husband over and over again in any situations conditions, whoever he is, she would always choose him, and I found it romantic.
This is just a story, about two people living in this current time, this moment, appreciate their 'now' — holding onto the people and things that matters the most to us 'right now'. I found it wonderful how the length of story is told in a short period of time, in a cute and lighthearted way, but filled with so much meaning.
I just would like to mention, chapter 31, the final chapter, broke me to pieces, it wrapped up the story very well, it answered everything, and it's just a comforting bittersweet closure to all of it.
To be frank, I've always wondered while reading the story early on, no matter what, Winter is still a mother - yet they barely brings that information up. I fully understand how traumatic it was, and it's not that I wanted to see traumatic episodes, but I just wanted to see a moment of motherly instinct from her. Again, once the final chapter came, it makes so much sense onto why it wasn't mentioned, and apparently it's intentional. Grief and trauma doesn't simply go away in a day, or once you started to move on, or once you've reached your happiness in life — whether you mentioned it or not, it will always be there, and it takes time to heal from it.
Yes, I'm tearing up again while writing this, but it's just so heartbreaking and healing at the same time, eventhough they're fictional, I'm just super glad that the MCs have one another.
Ah, moving onto the writing and technicality of the story, I found the it to be well written and enjoyable to read! The writing style reminded me a bit of English YA romance, and I actually like it as it's easy to read and more straightforward, yet the major message still leave us with so much impact! Another thing is, story doesn't feel awkward at all despite the characters are all European / westerners, everything feels absolutely natural although the dialogues are majority in Bahasa Melayu! And lastly, I like the uniqueness of using physics and its terms in the story — it makes the story different from the rest and it feels like this is absolutely special for this story in particular!
I initially interested with this book during its release, but I thought it's going to be a campus romance YA, and that's what holding me back (I'm just not a fan of dating-mid-studies romance). After going back and forth for months, I'm finally convinced after seeing the publication's post and reviews mentioned that this is after marriage romance. I'm so so glad that I picked this up, as it's such a saddening thought to not read such a beautiful story like this.
Ah, I think I wrote and analysed too much for this story, but I couldn't help it as I truly simply love this book so much.
Overall, if you're looking for a nice page turner — light and cute read, with focus on a journey of self heal over grief, this is for you! Just go get it okay, it's such a good book that needs to be known more by a lot of people.

My thought?
1. 1st time baca buku dari penulis ni. Walaupun romance bukan genre favourite aku but surprisingly, I like this book! Buku ni penceritaan dia ringkas, straight forward, tak draggy, fast paced. Aku baca habis sekali hadap.
2. Rasa macam budak bijak sekejap baca buku ni haha. Banyak keluar teori2 fizik dan astronomi. Ada vibe The Love Hypothesis. Tapi aku tak suka buku tu. Buku ni aku suka la 😂
3. Male dan female character dua2 aku suka. Dua2 perangai comel nak mampus 🤣 Tapi betul la aku asyik terbayang muka Clark Kent bila penulis describe Logan punya nerdy. Padahal Logan pakai spek bingkai putih memang tak sama la dengan Superman 🤣
4. Favourite aku masa flashback macam mana Winter dengan Logan boleh kenal. Yang si Winter mati2 ingatkan dia tengah chat dengan Tom tapi rupa2nya memang dah betul tu nombor telefon si Logan aka Nel. "No you're not Nel" 🤣
5. Aku stress sikit part yang Logan masuk penjara tu. Lah bukan dia royalty ke?? Selalu orang2 istana ni senang je lepas. Orang tak tahu ke dia prince? Kenapa tak guna pengaruh dia je? Ni lepas wife datang baru terfikir nak suruh call Robert la. Apa la Logan 😂
5. So in the end tu kira Winter dapat balik la kan semua memori dia? Kalau tak takkan dia rasa bersalah pulak kan atas kematian Kai? 🤔

June 29, 2024Fun, light reading. Sesekali baca romance-fantasy dengan latar ceritanya di luar negara, terasa macam baca terjemahan manga/manhwa. Teringat Princess Diaries juga. Tak letak harapan yang tinggi, tapi masih menghiburkan. Bahasanya pun baik.

Pertama kali cuba baca novel terbitan Lawa Lingo. Tertarik nak baca novel ni sebab cover dia cantik. Pastu try belek isi dalam. Wah, POV 1. Pastu bila baca, oh lah. POV 2 rupanya. Jarang-jarang nak jumpa ni.
Cerita ini mengisahkan tentang Winter Quinn yang merupakan pelajar ijazah sarjana muda di University of Valley dan Logan pula pelajar PhD di universiti yang sama. Mula-mula terkejut sebab diorang berlainan jantina tapi tinggal dalam bilik dorm asrama universiti yang sama. Cam, eh boleh ke pelajar lain jantina sebilik? 😨
Pastu bila teruskan pembacaan sikit rupanya setting cerita ni bukan di Malaysia, watak-watak bukan orang Melayu apatah lagi beragama Islam. Setting place dia macam kat US. So, macam okaylah. Logiklah kut. 🤷🏻♀️
Logan ni selalu berpuitis dalam 'bahasa' fizik. Unik tapi saya hanya mampu sengih tanpa memahami maksudnya. 😂

Mula² ambil masa pickup story ni, lama² lebih lancar bacaan. Cerita yang ringan meski latar kejadian, karakter, dan isi yang ingin dibawa agak berat. Bukan orang fizik, tapi boleh juga la memahami tentangnya 😆 Mr. Weinstein terlalu kacak & sweet 💋 agak perit lah juga hubungan dorang ni, sedih. Tapiii tak puas sikit sebab tak sampai arc dorang jadi raja & permaisuri, so background diraja Weinstein tu macam kuranglah diketengahkan, hanya disebut.
