Japan has been invaded by gods—and they’ve left nothing but death and destruction in their wake. With entire cities now classified as uninhabitable danger zones, Anti-God researcher Sachiyuki Tokinaga is determined to find a way to take down the gods and save humanity. When chance leads him to high schooler Waka Kamikura, the two may just end up changing the fate of the world forever.

Waka finally makes a break for it after being kidnapped by the god Volov, but just as her freedom is within reach, Alura stops her dead in her tracks. Meanwhile, Volov begs his former best friend Obikawa for help, though after struggling with his addiction for so long, he may already be beyond saving.

EN It seems that with each new volume of this series my opinion remains largely unchanged. It’s a series that manages to maintain a high level of interest without ever truly becoming overwhelming.

That said, at this point it feels like the story is following a somewhat different direction from what I initially imagined. At the beginning I expected something more focused on the supernatural, the investigation of deities, and the work of the investigators. While that is partly true, the narrative ends up placing a considerable focus on the relationships between the characters.

there’s something about the way mental health & addiction is written in this series that leaves me sobbing every time it’s brought up and chapter 51 is no exception

There were many significant developments in this volume, one of which left me sobbing. This series has always been a wild mix of emotion, wackiness, violence, and thought provoking inquires into humanity. This volume showcased all of those themes beautifully.

The story so far
Gods have descended upon Tokyo, reducing the entire city to an uninhabitable danger zone. When a young girl by the name of Waka peers through the fence surrounding the zone, she is approached by a wary researcher named Tokinaga.

Tokinaga, a member of the Anti-God Research Institute, must negotiate a treaty between the humans and Obikawa, otherwise known as the snake god Orokapi. But while Tokinaga and Obikawa are busy talking, Waka eats a mysterious gummy that lures her straight to the god Volov.

As Tokinaga and Obikawa track down Waka's location, Obikawa admits that he used to be best friends with Volov. But that was before Volov fell into a twisted relationship with Alura, the god currently residing within Waka. Now, Alura sheds light on yet another twisted relationship as she reveals Shion's dying wish to Waka...

I originally purchased this series on a bit of a whim and although I am not fully convinced, I find myself continuing to buy and read it. There must be something there that keeps drawing me back in.

The premise is simple, Gods have appeared and are blighting the World. They have the ability to kill with a single glance and areas they have 'infected' are quarantined off for everyone's safety. The gods have congregated in Japan, causing much concern leading to the construction of a specific research team.

The Anti-God research Institute is desperately trying to find a defence against the invaders whilst tackling a few nearby Gods, now with the help of the befriended Snake God.

It is frantic and occasionally disjointed and I am still not fully convinced. There have been a few new reveals which make the actions of the Gods seem more reasonable, adding enough intrigue for me to keep going for now. This volume gets 3 3/4 stars.

*IPO: the official name for gods. Short for Idolatry Prohibited Organism.

THIS SERIES IS AMAZING. I loved every volume so far but this one and volume 4 has been my favorites.

The art for Volovs mansion and all the rooms was so insane and a huge flex on the artists ability as well as creativity. The story is setting up some interesting plot points around Tokinaga. His character is by far the most interesting character to me. I love his relationship with Obikawa and Waka. His interaction with Alura was him aura farming to the max. He really got under Aluras skin, well either Tokinaga is extremely stupid or extremely smart, maybe even stronger than he is portrayed. Can’t wait to read more.

Since I have recently started with Goodreads i'll use this to sum up the 6 volumes I've read so far.

Childhood friend recommended this series to me while we were in the manga store and immediately got hooked. Amazing art style, but the good characters got me hooked and made me buy all other English volumes immediately!

Waka is an interesting character and learning more about Tokinaga in volume 6 was nice. Some really heartwarming and deep moments.
