Faith and Love in Durango

She promised to bring light into my darkness…
But I’ve sworn off love forever…
We'll be just married on paper...

Durango, 1881

Essie’s life is turned upside down when she’s chased by men seeking to collect her brother’s gambling debts. Desperate, she answers a mail-order bride ad. But upon arrival, she’s stunned to find her husband-to-be speaking about marriage with another woman. Did he ever truly want her, or was she just a pawn in someone else’s game?

Grant, a wealthy heir to a gunpowder mill, has vowed never to marry, scarred by betrayal and his family’s turmoil. Now, he’s confronted with Essie, a determined woman, insisting she is his mail-order bride. Though reluctant, he agrees to a marriage of convenience, her eyes stirring something long dormant within him.

Under one roof, Essie’s resilience and devout Christianity challenge Grant's distrust and bitterness. Then, past and present collide… nothing is what they thought.

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

"Once upon a time..."
...my best childhood nights had started with this wonderful phrase!

Ever since I can remember, I loved a good story!

All started thanks to my beloved grandfather! He used to read to my sister and me, stories of mighty princes and horrifying dragons! Even now, sometimes I miss those cold winters in front of the fireplace in my hometown, Texas!

My best stories though were the ones from the Bible! Such is the spiritual connection that a cozy warm pass through my body every time I hear a biblical story!

My childhood memories were not all roses, but I always knew that the strongest shelter would be always there for me! It was Him!

Years passed by, and little-Chloe grown up reading all kind of stories! It was no surprise that I had this urge to write my own stories, and share them with the word!

If I have a God's purpose on Earth, I think it is to spread His love and wisdom, through my stories!

Too Much Happening

This is a sweet story but way too much internal mind reflections. The gun battle was not very realistic. The beginning was good when writing about Essie’s experience. A little more imagination and time was needed for Betty’s goal for Grant. It just did not ring true and did not fit the personality given to Betty in the rest of the book. Betty and Thomas seemed more junior high than mature adults. It could have been a good book.

Great Story

I really enjoyed reading this story about Essie and Grant. Grant wasn't happy when she first showed up but in the end he realized that God had sent him what he and his family really needed. Through her strong faith in God she was able to help Grant, his father and brother Finn come back together as a family, even though trouble was brewing for them. This really is a very good story.

What I so loved about this story was Gods influence, with the forgiveness and love.
There was some waffling on and talking more than should have been at times, that didn't fit in, especially while contemplating a gun fight. Hmm.

BUT all in all it was still a special story to warm the reader's heart.
