You know those super cheesy but lovable Christmas hallmark movies? That’s exactly what this felt like. I happen to love those movies where they fall in love at first sight. Not necessarily believable, but it’s fiction, right? This was a super cute read!

2025 Christmas Romance. KU. December Reads. New author for me. Almost a novella/novel. Tropes: Contemporary Romance, Christmas Romance, Scrooge theme, Work Romance, Love at First Sight, Love Triangle.

MC's h. Marley Winters, 25?, baker, owns Sweet Dreams bakery, has been served an eviction notice by John Klaus on behalf of his boss Weston Ferrar, billionaire head of Law firm. Her fiance Henry just took off with most of her money and a new girlfriend leaving her three months in arrears, but she doesn't give up. She comes up fighting to keep her business. John Klaus gave her until Dec. 22 to raise the money to keep it. She and her three best friends, Kelsey, Mickey & ? worked hard to keep the bakery going. Marley's parents moved to London, England.

H. John Klaus, 35, lawyer working for Weston Ferrar and engaged to his daugher Cecelia (Cece). She has planned their wedding for Christmas Eve, to keep up with the Beaumonts, another Billionaire family. He dated her when they were teenagers and gave her a promise ring at 16. After college they hooked up again. They have been on again off again for 20 years. John and Cece only spend time together at the endless family dinners at the Weston's home and fancy hi class restaurants. Weston Ferrar tells him he'll make partner after this bakery is closed and after he marries his daughter. Nothing is ever enough for daddy's little princess. John has a brother Jake and his wife Sarah and their two boys. Both their parents have passed on. His fondest memories of his mother are her charity work giving to the poor. Cece is nothing like that. She is a social media influencer and the world revolves around her. He asks her to postpone the wedding for a year. She wants her own way no matter what because she has to out do the Beaumonts. She can't even remember his sister in law's name. Close to their wedding date she is asked by one of her girlfriends another social media influencer if she and John are going to start a family after they are married. She says no way. He knows he is not marrying her. He leaves the restaurant and texts her that the wedding is off.

This is a Scrooge themed Christmas Romance. John Klaus is accused by Marley Winters for being a Scrooge and gives him a copy of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (apparently her favorite Christmas Story).
*It is interesting the contrast between the two women in his life,* Cece*, beautiful glamerous never a hair out of place, spoiled by her parents and gets whatever she wants including John (Johnbear). She never listens to him, life revolves around her. It is alright if she looks and scrolls through her phone but if John looks at his phone that is socially rude.
*Marley*, is beautiful naturally without make up. Her dream is this bakery. It's all she has wanted since her Grandma, taught her to bake when she was eight years old. Even though her cheating, thieving ex fiance left her without enough cash and broke her heart she didn't give up when John gave her the eviction notice from Weston Ferrar. No she asked the help of her three best friends, Kelsey, Mickey and ? Louis pitched in to help her generate more income. She was always bright and cheery. He was drawn to her, for her vibrant spirit, her courage and her natural beauty and her giving and generous spirit. She reminded him of his mom.
*Cece* was a taker and *Marley* a giver.

After John broke up with Cece, he found himself at Marley's bakery. He kissed her and told her she had changed him. They got it on in her office on the desk. They both felt like they belonged together and so in love.
Unfortunately, Cece didn't take no for and answer, even though John told her twice by texting and voicemail they were done. She went on purpose to Marley's bakery and ordered her wedding cake telling her that John Klaus was her fiance. Marley's heart cracked in half. All men were scum.

John found out and went to Marley telling her it wasn't true but she didn't want to see him. Then the eviction notice came and she didn't quite have enough to make the deadline. However she still made the cakes that were ordered for the wedding.

John had a surprise for Marley. Earlier that month they had checked out the perfect location for her bakery if she couldn't keep the lease for her current location. The rent was $4000 a month, way over her budget. John bought the property and asked his brother to cancel all the wedding vendors for him and asking him to tell Marley to bring the cakes for his wedding to this address (the new building he just bought for her). Marley arrives and Jake, (John's brother) helps her bring in the cakes to th building which is decorated with tables and chairs, lights and candles on each table that have green table cloths. There is a buffet set up and presents on a table with a bar. And surprise, her three best friends are there dressed in holiday gear with champagne glasses in their hands raising them up to her, saying Cheers and Congratulations! John told her this is wear her new bakery will be and she says " I can't afford this." He tells her he bought the building and it was rent free. He tells her that he is not marrying Cece because he is in love with her. She tells him she loves him too. There is mistle toe above and they kiss one another forgetting everyone else is there watching. Everyone cheers and is happy for them.
One year later, John proposes and the get married.

Opinion: A cute Scrooge story. I liked Marley's spirit because she didn't life get her down. "When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade." Marley challenged John, asking him what he was doing working for someone who forced people out of their businesses? John changed his life around, before it was too late, just like Scrooge.
I gave this 4 stars. This author was a new author for me. I would read more of her books.

Christmas in July? Christmas in July, let's say I liked this book. It started well, I was very curious about the fiancé who took the protagonist's money and how she would recover it. Also, the fact that the male protagonist would be the one to deliver terrible news that leads her to come up with (honestly, good) ideas to save her bakery. Up to that point, everything was fine, and I have to admit I was enjoying it. However, there was something that didn't quite click for me, and it's more related to the mmc, his personality (or the lack of personality on his part) didn't capture my attention much, and I think that hindered my reading experience. While it's a story that reads quickly and is short, it truly embodies the Christmas spirit on every page. Let's just say that Marley is the real star of this whole book.

📌 I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

When baker Marley gets a note that she will be evicted from her shop, she does everything to raise the money due to her landlord, at the same time she makes a deal with the guy who handed her the note to give her a more days to do so.

This novella, Not a Cookie-Cutter Christmas by Violette Sage is a very nice Christmas themed novel. From the first I loved reading it, thanks to the dual POV and the flowing writing style. Marley is a great and very likable character, she lives for her baking and I really felt for her by what happened due to no fault of her own. I loved how John could not stay away. At first he wanted to see what Marley was up to, but when time went on and Marley thought up all these cute and adorable actions to keep her bakery afloat, he got to like her and got to thinking what his own life was all about. All the while I was rooting for them to be together.

The story is a short and charming read, but a lovely sweet one, with very likable characters, some drama, romance in a Christmas setting and a story that makes you want to go baking. I enjoyed reading it a lot!

Got into the Christmas spirit early this year. The cover is super cute and absolutely loved the story. Marley (owner of Sweet Dreams bakery) gets the worse possible news just three weeks before Christmas – she finds herself newly single and facing eviction from her bakery at the same time, all because her low-life of an ex decided he would steal all of her money and leave town with his girlfriend. The guy who serves the eviction notice (John) is naturally drop dead gorgeous and although this isn’t something that he usually does, he decides to give Marley an extension to come up with the money that she needs in an attempt to save her bakery (which is her lifelong dream).

All of Marley’s friends really come together to help her come up with different and creative ways to bring in more business to save the bakery. John ends up stopping by the bakery daily to “check up on her” but in the end, he just couldn’t stay away. John works as a lawyer for his fiance’s dad who happens to be the one who owns the bakery Marley rents from. Well, the father isn’t super happy that he gave an extension to Marley and if John wants to make partner in the firm and marry his daughter then Marley cannot meet this deadline he has given. What does he do? ….. Does he help Marley?....Does he stay away?....Just a super cute Holiday book to get you in the spirit.

This book gives you all the feels. It is well written and easy to read. I devoured it in just one day! It’s part of a series (Not Another Romance Series) with Book 2 releasing in September and I can’t wait.

I received a copy of this book from BookSirens and I am so glad that I did.

It’s that time of year when I start flying through Christmas rom-coms, and this book was no exception. I sped through this under-200-page (Kindle) holiday romance and genuinely enjoyed every bit of it!

I’ll admit, I’m not usually someone who gravitates toward the “fast love” trope, but I really adored the FMC, Marley, and I wanted her to get her fairy-tale ending! As for the MMC, John’s transformation from villain to love interest was so sweet to watch unfold and I am certainly a sucker for men wanting to be better. With that said, I do wish we had a little more insight into his background and his mother, since that was such a touching element of his story, but we still get enough glimpses to feel her influence on him throughout the book.

Overall, I really enjoyed Violette’s writing and the warm, positive Christmas messaging woven throughout. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series!

I really enjoyed this cute little Christmas story, and at just under 200 pages, I devoured it in one sitting.

John had the task of handing Marley her eviction notice, but he didn't expect for their meeting to make him question his life's choices.

Marley is on a mission to save her bakery and with the help of her friends conjures up events to bring in more customers to help raise the money she needs to pay her scummy landlord, after her ex fiance stole all her profits and ran away with his secret mistress! What she didn't expect was the company of John and the easy way he starts to edge into her life.

This was such a cosy and bingeable Christmas story of determination, strength, friendship, and revelations, and it will have you invested from the start.

There's a little bit of spice thrown in, which I always love, but it's all about the slow burn and the journey to their hea.

Marley Winters and John Klaus you have to love the names it's a Hallmark Movie for sure it's Christmas and everything should be Merry and Bright a Sweet Dreams Bakery until Marley gets and unpleasant Christmas gift and eviction notice by a handsome stranger and why is she being evicted you may ask well her slimy fiance is a cheater and a crook so Marley makes a deal with Mr. Klaus she has to save her shop. John Klause is a lawyer and his life and marriage hinge on Marley not making her deadline but the longer he spends around Marley he starts to question everything even his upcoming marriage. This was a slow steam cute Holiday read and I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via BookSirens and this is my honest review.

Imagine my surprise when I read the first page and realized I knew this story! Upon further checking, I discovered that this current tale is an upgraded account with additional material compiled by an additional source. Is it good—absolutely! I enjoyed it the first time I read this book and I really enjoyed it again this time.

The storyline is excellent; the characters are well developed and quite interesting; the plot twists and turns definitely have you sit up and take notice; and that HEA is certainly hard won. This book is so good…you can’t put it down! Be sure to add this one to your TBR list today! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and definitely enjoyed it.) ❤️❤️

“Not A Cookie-Cutter Christmas" is a delightful read that truly captures the essence of the holiday season. With its warm and inviting narrative, it’s the perfect companion for a cozy evening with a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate). The characters are endearing, and their journey is engaging, making the book difficult to put down. The slow-burn romance, with just the right hint of spice, adds even more depth to the story.

The charm of Sweet Dreams Bakery, vividly brought to life in the book, makes it a place you’ll wish you could visit. This is a heartwarming, festive read that I will definitely be reaching for again at Christmas time.

This was a super cute and light read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would read it again. It makes for a great palette cleanser because the small amount of angst is resolved fairly quickly and the story is full of so many positive and encouraging moments.

I equally like the hero and the heroine. Even from the beginning when the hero was at his worst he wasn’t super unlikable to me. The villain, now that chick needed a good throat punch! But I think that’s effective writing when you genuinely dislike the bad guy.

Great book. Spicy scenes could use a bit more depth in their descriptions but this was a keeper!

I won this book in a contest but would consider it worth purchasing and will likely look at the authors other works.

This was such a lovely enemies to lovers book!

It's a hallmark movie meets Scrooge!
Marley Winters has a bakery she lives for. Her fiancee helps out by doing her administrations and bringing the money to the bank. But she finds out that he is misleading her by cheating and taking large portions of money for himself.

She finds this all out when John Klaus (seriously, these names are amazing, Winters and Klaus!) stands in her bakery and hands her eviction papers. She makes a deal with him that she can try to get the money needed within the next three weeks and hopefully wont get evicted....

John Klaus is a lawyer in the firm of his father in law - John is dating his daughter, and boss/father-in-law isn't happy with the deal he made with Marley. He owns the property and wants to renovate so that he can ask higher rent.
He tells John that if Marley would succeed, John will loose his job and his fiancee...

To keep an eye out, John visits the bakery every day, buying a cup of coffee. He notices that Marley has a lot of success with ways to come up with earning more money and, at the same time spreading the joy of Christmas and giving.

They are enemies, literally on opposite sides, but slowly they seem to grow closer to each other. Or do they?

First, I must say I absolutely Loved this book! Violette Sage did a wonderful job and I cannot wait to read her next one!

This a cute story taking place during the holiday season - only a few short weeks away from Christmas. Marley discovers that her boyfriend was secretly stealing from her and planning his escape at the same time finding out she will be evicted from her bakery. However, the handsome man delivering the eviction also finds a soft spot for her and grants more time to come up with the payment to save her bakery. This soft spot ends up turning into daily visits for coffee and possibly something more…

A nice sweet easy to read festive story that has all the makings of a hallmark film. Maddie is at risk of losing her bakery if she can't come up with the money her landlord wants. Except hopefully the man delivering the letter has given her a bit more time. John what was I thinking if I want to make partner she can't make that payment in time. My father won't be happy if she makes the deadline. This is the first in a series which I've read the wrong way round but it doesn't alter the stories. Can these two find a way to both have the outcome they want. Or will Maddie loose her bakery. A real cute feelgood story which you'll not put down till you finish.

This book features a female main character (Marley) who is a fabulous baker, but not a great success of picking a fiance! When he empties all her savings and hasn't paid rent for months, he skips town permanently. Her landlord has his top lawyer come to the bakery and serve her eviction notice. Unfortunately(?) he is so smitten with her that he adjusts the eviction notice terms, essentially to give her a chance to keep the bakery.

Marley is an incredibly hard worker, a talented baker, and a creative genius! Her ideas to increase business and raise money were incredible, and the ending will shock you!

I enjoyed reading this story, it was sweet, entertaining and felt like a christmas fairy-tale - not too believable but entertaining anyway.

I liked Marley but I had trouble believing she wouldn't need more than a few hours to get over her fiance's betrayal. I didn't really care for John very much since his actions made him feel too much like a cheater, even if his fiance was obnoxious. Apart from that the story was fun to read.

I received this book from the Author as an ARC, however I am voluntarily reviewing this book.

Not a Cookie-Cutter Christmas was your typical Christmas love story that could easily be turned into a Hallmark Christmas movie. The word "typical" seems bad but I promise I do not use it to make the book seem less. I love a good love story and will watch a Christmas Hallmark movie any day of the year.

The main characters were easy to love and I was cheering them on from the very beginning. The love amongst friends in this book is the kind of friendship many people long for!

I could not put this book down once I started it! I was up past midnight, and forced myself to stop, just to finish it the next morning. Unfortunate circumstances cause Marley to fight for her bakery. A deal with the handsome stranger John Klaus is struck, and with a deadline in sight Marley is pulling out everything she has! This book transported me to Christmas!(In August!). It was such a cozy, fun, read. I felt like I was right there, with the Christmas spirit. The friendships the Marley has, the support. It’s all just so heartfelt. I really enjoyed this book.

Marley owns a bakery that she is in jeopardy of losing, all due to her fiance taking money and running. John delivers this bad news to her, but he also finds he can't stay away from her.

I fell in love with the characters as they navigated through trying to keep the bakery, and the feelings they started having.

Quick, but fun read that kept me interested throughout.

Wow! This was a super fast read. It was very predictable, but the journey is more important than the destination. I really enjoyed getting to know a little bit about John and Marley. I want to taste all of Marley’s treats and see all the decorations in the bakery. This was such a sweet little story that could 100% be a cheesy Christmas movie.

Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a short, sweet, holiday story!!

I was expecting to love this book, and I almost did, except for the fact that John had a fiancé for 75% of the book. I know nothing physical happened before that and it wasn’t a happy engagement, but I still didn’t like that.
