It starts kinky af, and ends kinky and sweet af. Their relationship works because grumpy cold Mal is secretly a baby who need someone to love him and North is just a golden retriever ball of sunshine who gives absolutely no fucks about how grumpy and cold Mal is. It's mostly them banging BDSM-ly, at first a bit rough without aftercare or talking much about limits, but it evolves into them being super in tune. I loved how North has a subtle humiliation kink that helps us better endure what Mal puts him through at times.
As always, fiction parents are the worst. And Paul needs to be punched.

It might seem hard to believe but this collection of novellas actually has a plot and character development. Like I was impressed I thought it was gonna be pure smut, so it was a nice surprise.

This book is all kinds of weird and disturbing but also equally sweet and very hot.

So for someone like me who has a lot of anxiety and wanted to be anywhere else but here it was a great escapism experience, and also I just have to say again, very hot. Malcom is the king of consent and North is a cutie.

Whoa! I was listening and reading the book at the same time. Just to explain, I'm German and I've been reading English books for a long time. I understand everything pretty well. Unfortunately, listening to English is still really tough for me. Native speakers often swallow words when they talk fast.

Learning English with smutty books. That makes it way more fun. 😂
I loved the story. The spice was hotter than hot, and Malcom is my absolute favorite grumpy guy. I just like 'em grumpy. 😇
About the narrator, all I can say is Chef Kiss. 🤌🏻💋
He really got into the characters while speaking, and there were even some sound effects. 🤣
I got the impression he had a blast while narrating. 🤭

This story far exceeded my expectations. If you decide to read it, keep in mind that it's actually comprised of six chronological short stories that each feature at least one, sometimes long, bdsm scene. It can be a bit much if you read it all in one go, but it didn't bother me because I just I skimmed through any scenes that I didn't feel like reading. The ones I did read were hot af, so no complaints from me. The overall story is really, really good. Malcolm and North are a great couple, and I loved how much they complimented each other's personalities and kinks. If you are able to listen to the audiobook, I highly recommend it. Craig Richards' voice was perfect for this story. His grunts and growls were 🔥🔥.

‘For The Fans’ vibes but make it kinkier, golden boy vs bad boy, teammates, a sort of hate (but actually just had a massive crush) to love, tutoring-for-sex deal, golden retriever ball-of-sunshine and grumpy black cat with trauma. ALL OF MY FAVORITE THINGS. So it really isn’t that surprising that I ate this up. And wanted seconds.

“Good boy.” Fuck. Is it possible to die from being ridiculously and shamefully turned on? Because if it is, I’m a goner.

Let’s just say I was glad I was at home when I read this and leave it at that, because those kinks were eerily attuned to my tastes. [Arden Long, get out of my incognito tab]
And it’s not used enough, but public teasing with a vibrator is definitely in the top five favorite fantasies. Seriously kinky authors, let’s use it more.
The chemistry between North and Mal and the obvious feelings that they had for each other even in the beginning just made this read extra special and romantic, especially in the last two installments.

There’s nothing more distracting during a slow bio class than a raging boner and a fantasy of my teammate doing unspeakable things to me.

The plot starts kicking in around 60% and by then I was already invested in these two crazy boys, so the angst HIT and the ending was perfectly sweet. I have zero complaints. 10/10 horny book, would recommend.

So this was pretty damn good! I went into it thinking it would be more BDSM stuff, but it really does have a great plot, pretty good writing, and two MCs I actually like. This is an omnibus of a series of shorter novellas (?) but I'm glad I had everything here and didn't have to wait it out.

FYI, the BDSM stuff is fairly tame, mostly cum control, some chastity, hard and fast sex, and talk of "ownership." There's nothing too freaky or violent. I mean, there's a mention in one scene that the sub is wearing lace underwear, but nothing says it's women's underwear. Don't expect a lot of BDSM heat, but there's plenty heat to go around regardless.

Lemme just say the VERY FIRST PROLOGUE had me hooked. Good golly. 🥵

Malcolm was dark and broody and so friggin obsessed with golden boy North. And from the moment North sees Malcolm going to town on his 🍆 in the middle of the football field at night, he’s just as obsessed.

These boys are kinky asffff and absolutely made for each other. This book was 60% smut but those scenes had depth and SO MANY DETAILS they honestly were the best parts of the book. I mean, WOW.

And the development of both Malcolm and North as individuals and then together as a couple was done so naturally and flawlessly it was seamless. Such fantastic storytelling!

I enjoyed this book so much, I'm so glad I waited till the complete series as I pretty much binge read this story. The writing had me hooked instantly and while it's heavy on the spice, there is so much heartfelt sweet and soft moments too that had me smiling. Especially in the second half, which had me almost at 5 stars because I just adore Malcolm and North.

Honestly these two charmed me so quickly, the introductions and alternating povs is perfection as see their feels develop. The grumpy sunshine vibes are immaculate and I loved seeing them grow comfortable with each other, the developing relationship alongside all of the chemistry between them.

Of course the heat is stunning, so many incredible scenes and considering there is a lot of them each one felt unique. Gave another insight into how these two fit together, revelations and they're simply so well suited. I enjoyed seeing them push each other in their very different ways, it was just a lot of fun to see how their dynamic worked.

Also the football scenes, the lingering looks, photo/video, the possessive and jealous moments 🔥 Oh and the lessons, how actually helped North in his studies and the support of each other throughout.

These two are so sweet together, I loved all the snark and sass between them as they grow into the feels. Shopping, clothes, meals, shots and the cowboy costumes! So much humour and light-hearted feels, to go along with the heavy scenes.

Got to mention the team already knowing and accepting them, as I loved how that was done! It was perfect.

I was obsessed as these two can't get enough of each other and when they finally get to the declarations it's wonderful. North and Malcolm are both protective, it was great to see that played out on page. These two hit me in all of the feels, in the best of ways.

So many incredible quotes, I highlighted so many in the second half I was charmed by the writing.

I got bored. I feel like the characters are not real, which is stupid to say because it’s fiction, but what I mean is that they don’t act like human beings. They’re too caricatural.
The writing was not smooth enough for me to enjoy the story either. I’ve read some truly amazing BDSM books, and sadly, this one didn’t quite measure up to those.
Also, I think the characters are too young for that kind of themes.

This series is perfection from start to finish. Every single page, every word and every moment between North & Malcom is just perfect. North and Malcom had incredible chemistry in the bedroom and everywhere in between. The spice in this book will have you melting!! The dynamic between the two of them is so incredibly hot and intense. There are also adorable moments in their relationship where Malcom buys matching robes and has a secret snow globe collection!

•North is the All-American jock and everyone who meets him loves him. He’s rather inexperienced in the bedroom and has never been interested in men until he stumbles upon his teammate in a compromising situation. North loses all self control with Malcom and finds himself in subspace so easily. North is fierce, obedient and loyal. I loved him so much!

•Malcom is the dark, brooding and mysterious teammate. He’s rough around the edges but deep down he’s fluff and just wants to be loved and cared for. He wants to experience emotions he never felt as a child. North helps him grow into his true self and find the strength he needs to take what it is he wants.

I truly didn't expect this to be as good as it was. There's something almost goofy about it on its most superficial level, like the title and the cover, and the first part of the series, but it had promised to be spicy and that's what I was in the mood for. And it was, like it really, really was. But there's also an emotional core here that I wasn't expecting at all.

The beginning is kind of improbable and a little stupid - we get dark broody Malcolm, college football player and man of mystery, having a crush on his golden retriever teammate, North. North sees Malcolm jack off in a public space one day (like at night in the dark), and he, who has not so much as thunk a gay thought, is suddenly overcome with lust for Malcolm. Somehow Malcolm finds out and then things escalate in a like a stupid quick way. North goes from turned on by another guy to a gay submissive masochist is literally zero amount of time. Fair amount of eye-rolling on my part here.

But then we get to know the characters a bit better, particularly North, who just rolls with these punches and manages to maintain a sunniness despite all the crazy shit happening to him. He just seemed like a super fun person to be around. Malcolm is a complex character whom I did not appreciate at first. He came off as extremely arrogant and domineering, but not in a way I enjoyed. The whole structured BDSM thing is also really not for me. That said, there is A LOT of sex in this book, and most of it was pretty hot, but there were a few 'scenes' I could take or leave. In the end, we learn more about Malcolm and it definitely softened him for me.

Their relationship development was great, I love a grumpy/sunshine moment and I love when the grump slowly starts to let his walls down. Despite the breakneck pace of their relationship, I was rooting for them and was happy to get a HEA, even if it felt kind of rushed.

If you are in the mood for something very smutty, but that also delivers has a pretty good emotional payoff, this one could be for you.

Malcolm and North are so perfect for one another! Slowly working at bringing down their walls until they would burn the world down for each other. North is the brattiest golden retriever puppy I’ve ever met and I LOVED HIM so much!! He’s the best possible match for broody, dark, broken boy Mal. As dominant and uncaring as Mal starts off as in this collection of short stories, you end just wanting to protect him at all costs and feeling so emotional over their journey together. That’s the power of great writing!

In a book that’s 70% + spice, it goes without saying that Mal & North’s chemistry is off the charts! This book had some of the hottest dom/sub MM scenes I’ve ever read (including one thing I’d never read about before 🤐😮‍💨) Their dynamic & North’s bi-awakening was so well done and the transition from benefits-to-feelings was flawless.

If you’re a fan of MM romance, you absolutely need to read My Dark Jock! What a stellar collection of stories!

I never learn! I overestimated the cover of a book again, because WOW! What a kinky incredibly spicy and somehow sweet and cute set of short stories! I really enjoyed this one, I couldn't put this one down, the plot and development was so good and GOD! how I love Mal and North together. At first, I thought it was going to be almost just pure spicy and kinky scenes, but it actually has a very good plot, good writing style and two MCs that I really like.

Malcolm, sweet broken grumpy and possessive baby, because that is exactly what he is, he just wanted to be loved, but his trauma made him so scared to open himself up enough for that, but we were able to see his real self come to light in every chapter, he really won me over from the start. And North the golden retriever kinky superstar, I love how he embraced this new part of him, his energy, the way he got under Malcolm's skin, how his feelings and reactions towards Mal hit him like a train without brakes that he couldn't stop, and he definitely didn't want to try to stop it.

I really love the development of their relationship, how Mal started to open up to North little by little. I mean, it was obvious from the start that he really liked North, this man claimed he couldn't stand him but couldn’t shut up about him. The way Mal struggled to express his feelings and the patience that North showed him. This relationship, the attraction between North and Malcolm is explosive, intense, and passionate, the kind that makes you think “wow, this is going to burn"... and it burns. What begins as an intense but casual and tempting connection transforms into a sweet and emotional roller coaster that, at times, borders on the toxic, but I am all for it. I want more from this couple.

North has always assumed his teammate Malcolm hates him, but when they catch each other in comprising positions - everything changes. North is drawn into Mal's world of pleasure, possession, and the good type of pain. When North wants more than Mal can give him, he makes it his mission to crack his cold facade. All the while Mal tries his hardest to keep his emotions closed off and not let North see the real him.

Mal and North are so dang cute together, the perfect grumpy/sunshine couple. Mal has his issues with his family which makes him cold and standoffish, but North's sunny, charming personality is his kryptonite. He's obsessed over North from afar but when he finally has his chance with him, Mal is still wary to let him in. North has a good simple life, but when Mal shows him exactly what he's been missing he knows he'll do anything to keep him and their relationship. He doesn't have to worry too much though because Mal is such a simp for North. North slowly works his way through all of Mal's walls and proves to Mal that he's worthy of love. While their chemistry is amazing, there are so many fun and sweet moments between them too.

I read this as one long book, which actually worked really well given the length. Even though it's a set of erotica novellas it wasn't overpowered by the spice and there was some actual plot happening. I just really loved these characters, and the character art done by the author is so perfect! Looking forward to reading more by Arden Long.

This was 100% an ovulation book. 90% of this book is smut. There’s underlying plot kinda throughout but these two could not keep their hands off each other. I hardly ever give books 5🌶️ so that should tell you something. There’s spice in nearly every chapter and usually I would be put off by that but the MMCs hooked me. Grumpy x Sunshine and the Grump has been absolutely obsessed with the Sunshine since they met. This is the most low-angst book I’ve ever read 😅

North is the happy go-lucky popular guy on the football team who knows everybody & deeply cares about other people’s opinions. He wants to please everyone and be liked by everyone.

Malcom is the tall broody introvert on the football team who hardly ever talks to anyone, doesn’t care what anyone thinks, has a very troubled past, and hasn’t been able to stop thinking about North Nolan (and the things he wants to do to him) since the day he met him.

If you want something spicy, emotional, kinky, and has a gay awakening, this is for you 💙

I wanted to like it, I really did but alas.. I did not. Not really.
Some of the aspect of the BDSM was..questionable, but fine. It’s not what bothered me the most. It was just how cliche everything was. I feel like I read this before, in a bad way.

I knew going into it that it was supposed to be really porny, but I expected more plot, y’know?? At one point, I stopped caring about the character, they were so surface level… I just wanted it to end. You could have easily cut 100 pages of this. The end was so anticlimactic….im disappointed.

Wow. This was a whole lot of book, so much story, so much happens, such a massive journey for the characters that was full of emotions and angsty spice. It took me a couple of tries to get into this book and that was purely because it’s 475 pages but I’m glad I read it.

Malcolm and North have an infatuation with each other but it’s not until one night North spies Malcolm playing with himself on the field that he realises he is attracted to Malcolm. So he does what any curious guy would do, he films the person they are watching to watch later.

This is the catalyst to some pretty rough spicy shenanigans from the get go, both private and public, with Malcolm completely dominating North and wanting him to submit. As the book goes on though, you can see Malcolm’s giant fortress of a wall start to waiver, and this is where I started to get really engrossed with the book. I love the emotional build up and development.

The writing was well done, especially Malcolm’s reluctance to let someone care for him and Malcolm’s relationship with this father who was a real douche canoe. Great to see their teammates were supportive, wouldn’t mind seeing a second book with a player or two. And Paul, well he can go eat a bag of Ds.

I think I heard there is going to be an audiobook, if there is, it is going to be fire.

I've reviewed this one like three times already but I'm gonna do it again for future generations.

What to expect:

A ton of smut. A good quality smut.👌

More smut than plot but still an engaging plot and the climax (ha!) that makes your heart jump out of your ribcage.

Loveable characters with big personalities and a sea of chemistry between them.

A healthy BDSM representation. (One of the first sex scenes is lacking aftercare but a character addresses this problem later).

Endless caring between the characters. And love. So much love.

A grumpy character some millennials can relate to and one golden retriever who makes him happy.

Really good writing. This author writes vividly and professionally without a boring blah, blah, blah.

This book has been my Roman Empire for a few months and I can't shup up about it. Read it at your own risk of becoming obsessed.

The Good
I loved this book so much! Malcom and North won my heart. The concept was insane at first but watching Malcom and North's relationship slowly grow was really amazing. I especially love how caring and understanding North was, especially after he found out what Malcom had been through. North fell for Malcom hard and fast but understood that Malcom wasn't there yet and could only give him so much because of the walls he put up in order to protect himself. Malcom was equally obsessed with North through so there wasn't a time where I felt that he didn't like or love him too, he just couldn't express himself. I also loved the plotline in the last two parts of this book. Seeing Malcom take back control of his life and finally stand up to his father was incredible and the way North became so protective and supportive was amazing too.

WOW!!

I am so glad that this series is complete!!
Here you meet North & Malcolm, both play on the same college football team.

North is sweet and liked by everyone, with the exception of Malcolm he is always giving him looks of hatred, which he doesn't understand.

All it takes is a captured video and an inquiry about some handcuffs to change the course of Macolm and North perception of the other. Their d/s dynamic is complimentary to each othet and the scenes are hot!!

I love Malcolm and North's journey together - they find within each other what the other never realized they were missing.

Malcolm does have a sad past that does come back to try and destroy his future, but will what he built with North be enough to keep his safe?

Definite must read!!

Just straight smut but still had a plot. Loved that Mals feelings grew from only wanted to sleep with North to straig up owning him and being like “he’s mine! Only mine!”. Loved it!❤️

His father should have ended up in jail though… Ooooor possibly killed by someone🫣😏
Mal deserves everything good coming to him❤️
North was the perfect boy for him and had that golden retriever energy around him, I love him too❤️🥰
