BIZARRE MURDERS AND INJUSTICE TURN TWO UNLIKELY FRIENDS DETECTIVEWelcome to Treetonshire, where murder has no manners, but you can still take afternoon tea.

Wenark Green’s first Windy & Darling mystery series focuses on rural Linkville—eight blissful villages tucked into fictional, historic Treetonshire—and bustling county town, Treeton. Part classic whodunnit, part social commentary, and part comedy of errors, the books are perfect for fans of diverse suspects, sharp, satirical humour, and clever twists. The gripping narratives introduce chaotic characters and intricate plots, fuelling Agatha Christie vibes, the cerebral logic of Sherlock Holmes, and Midsomer Murders at its most eccentric.

PIES, POISON, AND PUNSOne amazing bake-off. Twelve golden pies. Windy & Darling, back in stride.

Bogus an unspoiled village gem, where badgers rule OK, market traders barter and bawl, and worn cobbles belt out a rustic beat. In this country lover’s Eden, there’s a quiet certainty all’s well, until a charity pie auction dishes up death beneath a dome of flawless, crimped pastry.

Treachery triggers on a brisk autumn evening, when Linkville Community Council proposes a goodwill sale to mark the first anniversary of Sycamore Medical Centre. An invitation to secret bakers to compete in a bake-off like no other for twelve coveted places on the prized gingham table where the finest creations will tempt doctors with deep pockets and deeper egos. With pride and reputations at stake, competition’s fierce and bidding fiercer, setting the scene for a sinister showdown. Rivalries simmer, bids soar, and under bunting and fairy lights, venom takes root.

When a heartless doctor collapses at the annual festive fair and later dies, rumours echo around the Christmas tree in the market square. Somewhere between pastry and poison lies the truth, but whose pie decked the not-so-fun-guy, and why? Was it an honest blunder by a clueless baker? A reckless prank that went horribly wrong? Or did someone serve up a lingering vengeance with a perfect crust?

A shock arrest calls on Windy & Darling to hit the fatal fungus trail, where they forage for answers to foil injustice. In a tangled village thick with grudges, where everyone has something to hide and something more to gain, the sparring sleuths uncover bristling revenge, infidelity, and caustic corruption. Every clue carries a crooked curveball. Every suspect nurses a misleading motive.

With time ticking and the death knell poised to toll, the daring duo race to unravel a deep-rooted conundrum. Can shrewd wordplay, ancient, gnarled woodland, and a mouldy old map unmask the artful villain before herald angels claim another poor soul?

Weaving heated tension, a cast of characters unaware of their own absurdity, and a plot to outfox the sharpest mind, Fatal Fungus reunites Windy & Darling in a delicious mystery where pastry is perilous and good grace turns horribly lethal. Witty without whimsy, dark without dour, join our artful duo’s fast-paced foray into the fiendish fungal core of Treetonshire County, where humble pie proves hard to swallow.

A Crust Above the Rest: Murder is Served in this Delectable Mystery!

Fatal Fungus is a masterclass in the "cozy with a kick" genre. In the second installment of the Windy & Daring Mysteries, we return to the deceptively tranquil village of Bogus—a place where the badgers are bold, the cobbles are rustic, and the local charity auction just served up a side of homicide.
The Plot: High Stakes and Flaky Pastry
The story centers on a high-stakes bake-off celebrating the Sycamore Medical Centre. It’s all gingham, bunting, and fairy lights until a heartless doctor takes a bite of the wrong pie and drops dead. The setup is classic Christie with a modern, witty twist: was it a foraging faux pas, or did someone intentionally "deck the fun-guy"?
The Dynamic Duo: Windy & Darling
Jon "Windy" Windup and Wendy "Darling" May are back, and their chemistry is as sharp as a pastry cutter. Watching them navigate the "fatal fungus trail" is a joy. Windy’s shrewd wordplay and Darling’s daring intuition make them a formidable team as they sift through a village thick with:
Bristling Revenge: Old grudges that refuse to stay buried.
Caustic Corruption: The dark underbelly of a "perfect" community.
Crooked Curveballs: Just when you think you’ve pinned the baker, the map changes.
Why You’ll Love It
What sets this mystery apart is the atmosphere. The author paints Linkville and Bogus with such vivid detail you can almost smell the autumn leaves and the toxic toadstools. The pacing is brisk, the puns are pun-gent (in the best way possible), and the "mouldy old map" adds a delightful touch of ancient intrigue to a modern-day crime.
The Verdict: If you like your mysteries served with a dash of wit, a pinch of peril, and a perfectly crimped crust, Fatal Fungus is your next must-read. It’s a twisty, "mosh-room" of a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very last crumb.
