Strangely, not a lot of action happened in this story and yet I still read it in one day and kept turning those pages. The story is well written, and by book #12 I've gotten to know and like the character and enjoy seeing what's happening with him. It may be, also, that this is the next to last book in the series and I'm about to start the last. That builds a certain momentum in the reader, as well.

The world of Traveler is returning to normal as the US recovers from the great nuke out. Traveler is feeling out of place and left behind, and recurring headaches make it look like he might be dying. When he's given a chance at one last mission, he jumps at it. And secrets are revealed. There's a fair amount of philosophizing in this story but I liked it, and the writing style makes it pretty easy reading.

On to book #13, the last of Traveler.

Ed Naha writing as D.B. Drumm.

Big drop off in violence in this book. Six deaths in total. Traveler only kills one person, and not until the last chapter.

The Prey is a variation of Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game". A mad scientist with plans of world domination has created a monster, and needs to test it on human prey. Traveler is the first real challenge that the beast has ever had. They become friends, and the beast massacres the mad scientist and his henchmen. Not as dumb as it sounds, but pretty dumb.

Traveler plays "The Most Dangerous Game" in book #12. He goes undercover with a young lady to sort of post nuclear Las Vegas called Arrowhead Island. Couples have been disappearing from there on a regular basis. So, he goes down to find out why. He gets captured and is hunted by a man-made killing machine. Fun.

The Prey could be a standalone book not in the Traveler series because it’s so out there! But that’s not to say it’s a bad thing. Far from it. The traveler series takes a break from the ultra violence, high octane action we are used to, and moves closer to the future of the new world, and dives into the world of sci fi. I had no idea what to expect in this one, and while there is no real violence or action to say in almost the whole book, the story grips you and keeps you glued until the very end.

This was the first book in the whole series that kept me saying one more chapter because I was so curious what would happen next. This one was great one and def a favorite of mine. Easy 5 stars and only one left to go!
