The British Isles has a long, proud history of fine prose poets. Those poets who value the language in which they write in, who see the link inherent in the inner landscape and the landscapes of nature. Those poets offered us everything other than the prosaic. Their voices soared amongst the highest crags, and continue to do so. With the death of Ted Hughes in 1998, and more recently Seamus Heaney, it seemed there might well be a lull in this kind of thoughtful, elegant approach. Thankfully we will be spared this tragic narrative, as 'Sudden rainfall' shows. It is a debut collection of rare power, both lyrical and descriptive. The poems demand to be read aloud, as all quality poetry should. And this ladies and gentlemen is quality poetry. Rejoice, a unique voice joins the annals of the great poetry tradition.
