This is the second in the series and the students continue learning, this time in Skyhold, a seemingly impossible place hung in the air. Of course, this was the elemental air education; but not without its dangers.
The characters were well-defined, although I thought the fragile male ego was annoying. The sense of place was great with an underlying plot. I loved the magical atmosphere and possibilities.
Well-written with plenty of action and engaging from the start.
I was disappointed by this book. It's not finished. There were a couple of spots where the Synthesized Voice Narrator (which is terrible) said asterisk, asterisk, asterisk. Which is an obvious marker to go back and redo that point in the story. Serious editing needs to be done. Great story plot, and would love to see it developed better. Once that's done, I'd love to read it again. I got my copy from the Library on Hoopla. Maybe a bad copy was uploaded. And please get a human reader, the synthesized voice is horrid. It keeps saying various names differently, a bit confusing.
Second book of this series. This is a great read about people with elemental powers learning how to use them in a dangerous school environment, training for war. This time the school is set high up in the clouds & If school isn’t hard enough to survive, there’s Traitors trying to kill students, a powerful elementalist gone storm crazy & throw in a love triangle for good measure makes for a Very easy to read & very enjoyable story.
Powerful world building. These academy tales focus on teens coming of age in feudal societies with magic replacing technology. First crushes add to the uncertainty of learning to live with power. This set of books did not, in my opinion, need the budding romantic triangle between the peasant girl, the noble and the refugee. Class differences among the characters are more than enough to create conflicts.
The story is too short. I'm not sure the second book seems to have a little bit more character. Build it, but maybe that's only because there's the same character from the first door there really appears that each chapter is like a million story and itself, and it's just a collection of many stories. That sure where the offer is going. With it
Book 2 was all that book 1 was plus more. Watching Sera become an air elementalist and find the power inside of herself was exciting. She didn’t realize just how much she could figure out very quickly. She learns quickly thru the tests. She becomes strong enough to hold off a storm. Heading into book three
Always a good and entertaining read. Morgan Rice writes about magic, and good and evil; yet he has an entertaining story-line in each of his series. Enjoyed this book and was able to go from it directly into the next book.
This was another interesting book by Morgan Rice. The characters and the storyline was quite interesting and I'm looking forward to see how it develops in the future books.
