Everything was going according to plan.

Mostly.

Then the slugthrowers came out.

Follow Rim Fellows—the charming rogue from Christopher Hopper’s Imperium Descent universe—as he navigates the perilous black markets of the Chaosic Regions.

Rim is in his prime, running high-stakes jobs and building his reputation. But when a routine mission goes spectacularly sideways, Rim finds himself entangled in a web of obligations he never anticipated.

As the consequences of that fateful job ripple through the galaxy, Rim must balance his life of crime with a newfound sense of duty to protect innocent lives. Along the way, he encounters bizarre alien species, uncovers dark secrets, and stares death in the face—all while keeping his own dangerous past under wraps.

Rim of Chaos is a thrilling spin-off by Christie Strahler that brings you even more of the action, humor, and heart you love from the Imperium Descent series. Perfect for fans of space opera adventures and unforgettable characters, this novel will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Awesome sci fi adventure

The worldbuilding is great, the story is thrilling, and Rim is a loveable, flawed narrator. The AIs are well-imagined, funny (B'aalok had me laughing out loud), and a little scary. The weasels are just plain wonderful. Rim's "crew" is diverse and interesting. Really bad stuff (including graphic violence) happens, as it often does in sci fi adventures. But good stuff happens, too. And Rim finds a purpose. I'm looking forward to his further adventures. I read this book in KU but will buy it to reread (because I love the weasels and AIs).

I didn’t know what to expect when I started RIM OF CHAOS by Christie Strahler but it was everything I wanted:
Space Western.
Cocky racketeer with “Han shot first” energy.
Found family.
Thunder weasels.

Rim Fellowes is a gun-for-hire haunted by his past in a sci-fi future. After avenging the death of his friend during a heist gone wrong, Rim accompanies his friend’s widow and daughter on their move to a new planet, where he learns that you can’t always outrun your problems.

Especially if you’re one of them.

Recommended for anyone looking for laugh-out-loud humor and edge-of-your-seat action, accompanied by real emotional heft and some surprisingly tender moments.

Satisfying Back Story

I'm really enjoying this book! If you've read the original series by Christopher Hopper this fills in the gap for an enigmatic scoundrel. If you haven't read the series this is a great stand alone. Interesting aliens, realistic human characters and food plot development.

Definitely worth your time!

Well thought out story

I enjoyed meeting these characters for the first time and watching Rim’s personal growth. Can’t wait to see where he goes from here. I’m sure trouble will find him!

This is not a genre I generally reach for, but I’m so glad I did! A space adventure, mixed with emotional turmoil, hard lessons, and self-reflection.

I laughed a few times too! 🙃

⭐️ Highly recommend “Rim of Chaos” as your next cozy-intergalactic read. ⭐️
