See how she got thrown into isolation. See the friends she traveled with on the journey to the island. Watch her make the final decision to leave Philly and journey to Ohio when her world comes crashing down around her. Meet Val and get a real feel for her character as you read her story in her POV. This is the story before the story!
Chrissy Peebles, a practicing nurse, has always loved reading and writing fantasy from the earliest age she can remember. She plotted every single twist she could think of during bedtime stories for her children. When her little ones begged for more adventures, she felt confident enough to let her overeager imagination and sense of humor spill out into her first novel. She lives in Ohio with her husband, two young kids, one hamster, three dwarf hamsters and cat. When she's not taking the kids to Little League soccer, basketball, or baseball, she loves to snap photos as her favorite hobby.
I have already read a couple books in the series and I love them. I was excited to go back and read Val's story before book 1. I really loved her back story. My heart broke for her when the unthinkable happened. The characters are great and I feel a greater sympathy for Val knowing how she got into her situation. Now I can't wait to go back and finish the rest of the series and see what happens.
We are presented with the prequel to The Zombie Chronicles series. Contained within is the background for character Val that was missing from the series. We discover how she was bitten, share her excitement as she meets her biological parents for the first time, meet the characters on her journey, and share her terror through numerous encounters on her way to presumed safety in Ohio. It’s a great story and Val is one tough character. The last few chapters are a roller coaster of emotions and should not be missed if you are a fan of the series. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This book was action-packed, and thrilling, and I couldn't put it down. The characters were well rounded and believable, and the world building great, the narration was expressive. I enjoyed reading about Val, she was tough, and took no prisoners and kept coming back for more no matter how many times she got knocked down. I really enjoyed most of the characters I read about except for Val's sidekick Sammy, she was way too whiny and really annoyed me, that aside I definately want to read more zombie chroicles.
Continuity errors in this book really frustrated me. Plus how many close calls can you put characters in within one book where they almost always come out unscathed? I love this series but the author has gotten sloppy in areas. In my opinion she is too busy trying to put out books for at least 4 to 5 other series that this one has suffered. I will continue to read the series because I want to see if they make it back to the island and their family. Plus I hope Peebles is setting up for a Sammy, Kyle, and Jenny reunion with Val.
