They say there’s no rest for the wicked. What about those whose profession is taking them down?
Former FBI agent Spenser Song has had to rise from the ashes of tragedy.
Attempting to overcome the guilt of her husband’s death, she left the bureau and accepted a position as Sheriff in Sweetwater.
Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, and with the aid of Ryker and her four-legged sidekick, Spenser began to recover from her heart-wrenching wounds. Apart from murders, kidnappings, trafficking, and a wide array of twisted crimes. Life in Sweetwater is as "serene" as could be.
When a young couple is taken from a campsite by what hunters believe to be the Okasha, a Bigfoot-like creature. The entire town is thrown into a panicked frenzy. Even Ryker believes that the furry beast might be responsible for the camper’s disappearance. When the missing boy is found, his wounds and description of the culprit match the creature of the local legend. With the girl still missing, Spenser searches through her room. The clues from her diary and texts reveal more layers of twists in the case.
There are truly all sorts of monsters in this world. Legends, lores, big hairy creatures, and a missing girl. Sweetwater Falls is full of surprises. And a mandated vacation for Spenser might be in order after this.
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
This was almost a 4 🌟 read. The author drops a small nugget of information before the halfway mark that hints at who the culprit might be. I actually prefer it when the reader can guess at the guilty party along the way instead of some unknown, un-mentioned party dropping in at the end of the book as the bad guy. The only problem here was the sheriff should have considered that line of possibilities and she never did until they worked out who it was another way.
Also, Rafe needs to go. That is uninteresting.
The thing I disliked most is the FBI drops into town to accuse her of murdering Alex. Somehow, between the last book and this one, the sheriff forgot she knew Ryker had a recording of Alex attacking her. I hate discontinuities like that. The author could have re-read the last 10 pages of her last book to get that right. If she intentionally changed that reality, that was silly. It didn't add any value to the plot to have the FBI question her.
I swear the people in that little town seem to have a severe case of "what have you done for me lately?" Rafe seems to get them fired up that she hasn't yet solved this mystery when she solved the last one. Rinse. Repeat.
The opening finds Spenser recovering from the brutal attack by Alex Ricci from NY -he's been after her since her time as an FBI agent in NY and whom she thinks killed her husband. She is determined after 9 days to get out of the hospital and back to some semblance of work.
No sooner is she back than two elderly hunters come to report a crime scene they came across. A camp in the woods was brutally attacked, the campers are missing and there's blood. Wallets identify the 20's age couple but did they run, have a fight, get attacked? A 3 day search doesn't turn up anyone until the man is found almost dead in a ditch and as neither had enemies, Spenser feels something more sinister is at play.
Meanwhile agitators which includes the man vying for her job believe it's the work of Okasha- the local bigfoot legend and tempers are high. Dogged investigation reveals it's more personal and Spenser hopes to find the missing girl before it's too late.
The FBI however isn't done with her and is trying to pin Alex Ricci's death on her but both boyfriend Ryker and the mayor have her back
I enjoyed this book and thought the end was interesting and fun. Different from the other books in the series.
How about Song getting more of her deputies involved! Supposedly they have been highly trained by her, yet only Amanda is involved in the investigations. And why is it Song has to be involved in every case? How about delegating! Do sheriffs really get this involved? What are her deputies for? Parking tickets?
Song’s conflicting emotions about Ryker are getting quite tedious!! One minute her heart is “swelling” and she wants a life with Ryker, next sentence she’s saying she can’t move forward. What is her issue actually?? She fears losing him? She doesn’t think she’s worthy of him? She feels she doesn’t deserve to be happy? She feels she’s being unfaithful to Trevor?? I can’t keep track of all these issues! She seems a bit unstable at this point!
The Legend of the Fall(A Sweetwater Falls Mystery Book 10)
OMG!!!!!!! This book was scary and amazing at the same time. Spencer has to deal with a legend that has been around for centuries.(first the native people, told the story, but as time went by it was imbelished to scare children.) Two young people have disappeared from their campsite, their camp has been shredded and there is blood. Now she has to convince the towns people to let her do her job, sort of. She is still recovering from the attack from Alex, so she is kind of sidelined, and has to trust that her under sherriff to lead the investigation and she can only help from the back. The book keeps you thinking, and makes you want to help. I can't wait to read the next book.
I loved the in depth emotional side of Spencer and I am so happy that she finally sorted her demons out and made the commitment with Ryker. It was also emotionally charged where the family was concerned with their missing daughter. Truly amazing can’t wait for Spencer and the teams next case
The best Spenser Song edition yet! In her role as Sweetwater Sheriff, Spenser is out to discover what, or who almost killed one camper and abducted the other one. Her squad of deputies play more of a role in this episode as their training kicks in. Good story!
This was another good book in the series. Two people attacked and missing camp site destroyed. People think its a version of big foot, especially when the young man is found. Sheriff Moon knows its not the monster legend but someone has abducted the young girl. Hopefully they find her in time.
Read this one in two evenings, couldn't put it down. I don't see how a small town sheriff can get into so many strange situations, fortunately she is up to the challenge. Another spellbinding, well written mystery in this series. Thank you Elle Gray, been a while since I enjoyed a series quite as much.
This was a awesome story about Spenser and team trying to find out what happened to a couple of campers and finding answers and why with lots of suspense and action. Thank you for this excellent story.
This is a very exciting book. Loved it. I could not put this book down. This book is full of suspense. I can't wait until the next book comes out. I highly recommend this book and series.
This series is really good! There are many twist and turns. I enjoy getting to know all the characters especially sheriff Spenser and her story. If you like criminal suspense along with a great story line this series is it.
This is one of my favorite series by Elle Gray, so I hope she continues it. This book captures you from page one and you don't want to put it down until you finish.
Usually when additional stories are added to a series they tend to get boring not in this case! Kidnapping, folklore, FBI, near death beating, stalker and more is keeping Sheriff Spencer and deputies very busy. Great job. Thank you.
Enjoying this series and still enjoying the unfolding of all the lives in this book. This one actually had me guessing pretty good. One of my favorites in this series so far.
Good reading. The finding of the individuals who were missing was interesting. While the male was in bad condition at least he was alive. Finding the female was a challenge and it was good that they found her.
Elle Grey is an incredible author!!!one of my very favorite!!!! This book was written so well and kept me on the edge til the end!!! I can’t wait to read the next one!!!!!!
I liked how this book wrapped up a lot of the story lines from the previous book and a lot of the books in the series so far. Plus the case the team worked in this book was not obvious and kept me engaged as a reader
When two campers go missing from their campsite and two hunters stumble onto the shredded remains of their tent, Sheriff Spencer Song and her team go looking for them. But what if whoever took them was not human?
I Good read , loved the suspense , also enjoy the interaction between the characters , some of the antics are silly , but overall interesting waiting for the next book
Just when I think things are beginning to work out, Spencer casts doubt on her self-worth and gives up to depression! I almost put the book down!!! I'm so tired of this "hair shirt" !!!!
3.5 stars: This story seemed to drag on. We are on book 10 so maybe its hard to come up with good plots. I feel that I'm invested so I will read book 11 but if this is the start of the series going down hill I will quit reading. At least its on Kindle Unlimited.
Good book that kept me guessing I absolutely loved it. It had lots of twists and turns that kept me reading until the end. I would recommend this book to anyone
Spencer might finally get some closure, and FBI off her back. Enjoyed this, but that Rafe character when I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him. Can't wait for what's in the woods....
