'as we wrap this cloak around you ,know this ,Mother. We love you ,even though we hated you '

It was a good book, and I’m happy that I decided to buy it — even if it was mostly because of the beautiful cover made by “Little Miss Grumpy.” It is also something new on my bookshelf: a myth retelling (thankfully based on more than one author’s version of the story) that includes historical context and commentary on why this story is still so important.

The main character, Electra, is the betrayed daughter of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon. She was betrayed by her own mother and her mother’s lover, Aegisthus. After that, she lived a life of misery, but she held onto one powerful thing in her mind and heart — the desire for revenge. That was the force that would not let her spirit fade.

The whole story shows us, as readers, that even a “weak woman” in Ancient Greece could have a strong spirit. The commentary section even states that she is stronger than some men in this kind of story. That is why this is „HER” story, not her brother Orestes’s.

I really enjoyed this book, even though it is short, and I’m glad I was able to get to know Electra of Mycenae — a character I had never heard of before.

My rating: 4,5/5⭐️

Hope it will help U all to decide to read it!

I mostly enjoyed the last part where there is a brief analysis on the different sources.

Great beach read. Humongous font, simple direct writing. A simple and truncated introduction to greek myths.
