Tall. Muscled. Tattooed. Shane King was seriously hot, and seriously not a good guy. He went by the name Ghost with his motorcycle club, and he was now their national vice president.
When Shane and his club arrived in town, they began doing favors for my family. I didn’t know why. I didn’t want to know. Favors came with strings attached. I didn’t want strings attaching me to the Red Demons.
Shane was a different beast, though. I should steer clear of him, except I couldn’t. He was everywhere, and he always looked like he wanted to tie me up in all sorts of strings.
A part of me wanted to let him. A part of me yearned to let him. But no.
Shane might act like the hero, but he wasn’t. He was the villain. And I was about to learn that the strings that came with Shane… …they would be my unraveling.
'𝐅R𝐈S𝐂O' Is a full length, standalone MC romance book by author Tijan. Spoken in 'dual perspectives.' (Shane & Kali)
I'd been eyeballing and stalking this like a woman unhinged and on a mission once that signup did the rounds my fingers worked fasted than ever to sign up...
💣 Road trip 💣 Heroine in danger 💣 Touch her and die 💣 Siblings best friend 💣 Escaping a killer
Like with any book this author writes, I dived right in and life carried on around me, straight away I was pulled in, this unicorn author sprinkled her magical words and this book was inhaled.
It’s been years since I’ve read an MC book and it felt like I was coming home from a long trip away, this used to be my go to genre so maybe now it’s time for me to jump back into the MC world and I’m glad it was Tijan reinforcing my love for this genre.
What I really enjoyed about this book was the fact that these two characters were in their late 30's, which I found really refreshing..
Thirty six year old Kali is back in the town of Friendly, Indiana after a failed marriage and is running the local convenience store. She's estranged from her sister and mother and hasn't had much to do with them since her marriage.
Shane (Ghost) also had left town many years ago after too many fights and landing himself a stint in juvie, all had lost touch with him other than her brother who he kept in close contact with. It's this close bond that has him coming back to his home town due to a favour his club owes her brothers family.
Shane is also the guy that Kali had a huge crush on back in highschool.
Shane loves his club above all else, and would do anything for them, so with this in mind he owes a favour to Kali's brother and he's in town to settle that dept.
With this debt supposedly squared away Shane then leaves town, but Kali's sister abruptly takes off after them which has these girls mother in a tailspin and asks Kali to grab her and bring her back home. Hense a road trip entails with her two best friends in tow.
A road trip never to be forgotten A road trip which had dire consequences A road trip that ended in love for all.
Dude. WTF? I was in a book slump, and here comes Tijan with a knockout standalone MC book. It was soooo good. I devoured it, even when I was supposed to be working or sleeping.
I loved Kali. She was smart, stood up for what she believed in, and had some shit to work through. (Don't we all?) But her and SHANE MF'ING KING were pure fire. Like, maybe we should call the fire department?? Just to check in on them?
Let's talk about Shane real quick. Fearless leader, smoldering eyes (probably), and not afraid to say or do exactly what he wants. Which is her. *swoon*
I'm not saying any more since this isn't out yet, but 10/10, definitely pick this one up. And if you've read other books by Tijan, you'll be happy to know there are some fun cameos...
"Life was good. If you had people who loved you and were in your corner, life was damn good."
Ghost. That's what he's known by in his Motorcycle Club. But Kali Michaels just knows him as Shane King. Her brother's best friend. And the guy she had a crush on in high school. And now she can't escape him. Shane and his club are everywhere. Helping and doing favors. But Kali knows that the "Red Demons" and their favors always have strings attached. And when you pull on one of the strings… Kali might be the one unravelling.
"I'll do anything for the club."
I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review 🖤
"Now Shane was here, and his presence was overwhelming."
Ever since I started reading Tijan I have become more and more obsessed with her writing. She has a way of literally sucking you in with the plot and never letting you go and "Frisco" was no exception!! The minute Shane King showed up on my Kindle I was falling like cans of soup (IYKYK) and I loved Kali and her character and the push and pull between her and Ghost!! SO GOOD!! Also MOTORCYLCE CLUB ROMANCE WRITTEN BY TIJAN???? = AUTOMATIC WIN FOR ME THANK YOU VERY MUCH 🖤🖤🖤

The heroine:Kali - she grew up in a small town called Friendly, Indiana. Her mother gave birth to her in the alley behind a hardware store. She has a younger brother Connor nicknamed Gloves, whom she loves but is a magnet for trouble, and a younger sister Claudia, but they have different fathers. Her father is an attorney in Chicago and her mother owns a dive bar in Friendly. When Kali caught her husband in their bed with three other women, she divorced him and moved back to friendly to rent the basement apartment from her two best friends. She now works at the Friendly grocery store, where she worked through high school and college.
The Hero:Shane King (a.k.a. Ghost) - he grew up in Friendly and was a foster kid in the house next door to Kali. Though he didn’t really know her very well then, he did have a thing for her, and he was good friends with her brother and still is. He is the national vice president of the Red Demons motorcycle club and is back in Friendly for a few weeks to pay back a debt to his old friend Gloves who saved some of the Red Demons in prison. He wants to get Gloves’ family under the clubs' thumb for a mysterious reason, something big they want Gloves to do for them. He loves his club; he joined after three tours overseas and his club was his family.
The Story: When a couple of the Red Demons get in an all-out fight in the soup aisle of the grocery store, Kali is the one who has to settle things down before it gets out of hand. The two fighters were beating each other with soup cans, and it was downright bloody, but Kali knows that calling the police on the one-percenters isn’t a good idea. When she finally gets the two to stop fighting, she calls their VP to come and pick them up outside of the store. Later that night Shane King comes back to the store when Kali is alone and tells her why he is really in town.
Kali had a crush on Shane King back in high school before he moved away. Though he didn’t really know she existed. But now he sees that she is all woman and is attracted to her. He is not sure he wants to take care of her the way his president might want him to. When an issue comes up at the Red Demons Frisco charter, he is sent to check it out and handle the situation. When Kali’s sister follows the Demons to California, Kali and her friends take a road trip to go get her.
The world building and character development were terrific. I really liked both main characters, there was a ton of chemistry between Kali and Shane. There were a bunch of great supporting characters as well. Kali’s gay best friend Harper was hilarious, and her other best friend Allie was interesting and funny. There were a bunch of the Red Demons that were terrific, like Machete and Boise. And Tijan always seems to have some crossovers to her other books. In this one, they stayed in Fallen Crest, which was a town over from Frisco. The Red Demons were also starting to make an alliance with the Bennett Mafia.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Zara Eden and Jacob Morgan. Jacob Morgan is one of my favorite narrators, he has a nice deep voice and sounds very natural, not like he is reading. Zara Eden also did a great job. She has a clear, feminine voice that is soft and not at all annoying like some narrators.
I'm probably in the minority here...... but it wasn't her best novel.
All the things I enjoyed:
♡ loved the high school connection/YA crush between Kali and Shane - swoon!!!
♡ loved regular Kali and VP Shane (the special edition book cover depicts it pretty accurate), especially how down to earth Kali was and how she didn't get shaken by MC lifestyle, and stood by her man
♡ enjoyed that Frisco edged into Fallen Crest without too much overlap
♡ Shane surprised and impressed me by how cool headed he was at times - very VP!!!
⏤ what I didn't enjoy as much was that there was a lot of MC drama and I wanted more Kali and Shane one-on-one interaction besides the sexy times, their relationship moved too quickly for me
⏤ I still feel sometimes that Tijan adult characters often behave more like new adults than their supposed age, that's probably why I love her YA/NA novels more - at least there the age makes more sense with all the drama etc.
⏤ oh and I didn't get the whole ice hockey mask plot .... made no sense to me, and came far too late in the novel to make a big impression on me, that's a big cover fail for me, love on the other hand the special edition cover....
conclusion: I'm still a sucker for Tijan YA/NA drama, but still enjoy everything else she puts out
I was so excited to read Frisco. I am a bookstagrammer and I have seen a ton of raving book reviews about Tijan's books. And I finally popped my cherry with Frisco.
And I am not sure what I am thinking. I really liked and enjoyed the story. But I also missed so many things throughout the book. And I am not sure how to rate this book. So I'll just start my review and see what feels like the best rating.
The book starts with 36-year old Kali who is working in a grocery store. Two members of Red Demons are fighting in the soup aisle and she tries to break them up. One of them gets hurt and the other one offers her his phone and asks her to call the number listed under 3. She calls the number and then Ghost aka Shane picks up. In high school they had a thing for each other. She quickly hangs up after informing him what is going on.
When she goes to her mother's bar they feel each other instantly. We find out she isn't very close with her mother or her sister Claudia. And after a while she follows him outside. And they kiss. What I hated is that the kiss is off page. We see him leaning in and then we skip to her remembering it. It felt like such a missed opportunity to truly feel the chemistry between the two of them.
Meanwhile Shane is dealing with club business. He also made a deal with Conner, Kali's brother. And he keeps that secret from Kali.
When the Red Demons leave town Claudia travels after them. She fell for a member who doesn't want to make her his old lady. But she thinks she is in love and goes after them to Frisco. Their mother sends Kali after them to collect Claudia and return home. But Claudia doesn't want to get saved and the club is in dicey business and they need to protect the woman and children and figure out who to deal with the complications of a rival club.
The book has a lot of club business scenes in it. We mainly follow the troubles and the story of the Red Demons. I really missed scenes between Shane and Kali. They mostly only had love scenes or scenes where they make out. I missed scenes to see them fall in love. And the love scenes weren't as hot as I hoped they would be. I didn't feel their chemistry as much as I wanted to. It didn't make me all hot and bothered.
I did love the scenes where Kali calls her father. I love their bond and how open and honest she is with him. Those scenes always brought a huge smile upon my face. And Harper and Justin's love story was a joy to read. Though I missed their on page reunion a lot. That was another missed opportunity.
There is also another huge story line that was heavily focussed on and it was dealt with off page. I don't understand why so many important parts of the story weren't experienced first person.
Shelly and Katie's story line wasn't worked out as well as I wanted it to be. It felt like this book had so many loose ends. It was really a shame that they weren't part of the story. It was not that I wanted a sequel. But a few more pages here and there to complete the storylines would have benefitted the story a lot.
Overall it was still a very enjoyable book. And I am glad I read it. And I will definitely read more of her books in the future. To figure out if they resonate a bit more with me.
After having read almost every single book Tijan has ever written, I have come to the conclusion that she has two main tropes in writing her female characters:
1. Girl/woman who is a completely hormone/sex driven, brain-cell-dead mess whenever a HAWT guy pays attention to her. 2. An intelligent Girl/woman who actually incorporates her brain before making decisions.
The problem is that we never know which woman we will get when going into any Tijan book. It’s a crap shoot. Gosh, I WISH she would at least group them into series or something so those of us that like one but hate the other can read the books we so love of this author’s, but avoid those we will hate. Unfortunately, a character may start as #2 in book one, then suddenly switch to #1 in another book and visa-versa. SO… I’m stuck giving completely bi-polar reviews on her books! I will absolutely adore one book, the next will drive me to distraction with all the TSTL I have to wade through, then.. TaDa! A fabulous female pops back up! *sigh*
This book falls strongly into the #1 category. Let me give you a quick synopsis so you can decide what you want…
Kali is a 36 year old woman who is newly divorced from a horrific, cheating douchbag of a man. She moves home and runs into a guy she knew in high school who is now the VP of a vicious, one percenters motorcycle club. BUT… he is so HAWT! Her hormones just MUST be satisfied! So, she loses all sense, intelligence and immediately chases him across the country - literally (although uses her sister as an excuse), has wild, frequent sex, with absolutely no consideration of the consequences… Consequences, what are those? Well… she finds out really fast. But the incredible TSTL syndrome has already set in and the storyline follows.
And, because of all her “hormone” driven (her excuse, not mine) sex obsessions, we never have the chance to actually understand all the underlying threads that are introduced, and would have been extremely interesting, but are left hanging. What exactly were the reasons she stayed in her previous marriage so long? What are the problems she has with her Mom? What type of relationship did the two main characters have in high school? Why didn’t she work as a nurse when she returned? How did Shane (MMC) actually get himself in so deep with this MC club that he is doing the awful things he has done? What the heck is going on with her brother? Oh, the questions could go on and on but never an answer to be found!
I honestly considered walking away - especially through the first half of the book, but the MC problems and that part of the storyline was intriguing enough that I hoped we would get some understanding as we went (we don’t, be warned). However, it was an exciting ride through that last half of the book (the reason the stars stayed at three).
See? If the author would warn us somehow, I could avoid these TSTL books and just enjoy the intelligent ones. Because Tijan can sure can write some amazing stuff! It just depends on which “stuff” you prefer.
I am so unsure if Tijan’s writing style has changed or my tastes in books have changed, because I barely made it to the 60% mark before I couldn’t continue. I called the whole book around 20%, no surprises, no character development, just very bland and blah. I used to LOVE their books and looked forward to the new ones, but I haven’t enjoyed the last few at all.
"I didn't like wearing a mask when I loved, but when I killed, that was a whole other matter..."
Reading Tijan's books is like watching a fast paced action movie!!! This time the focus of the story was a motorcycle club, the "Red Demons" and their adventures... I love everything that this writer is throwing my way and I can not 1-click fast enough her new releases... I love her storylines, I love her characters, I love that she is not focusing only to the main couple, but she is giving us so much more with the secondary characters in full action too... Frisco was an amazing story, fast paced and full of adventure and suspense!!!
"I'll do anything for the club."
Kali is returning back in her hometown after an ugly divorce... She is enstranged with her mother and sister and she is living her life simply in the comany of her two best friends... And then one day, the Red Demons MC are coming to town and everything are turning upside down in her life... Their VP is someone she knows from the past, her brother's best friend to whom she had a crush on back in the day and even though she should stay away from him, everything are leading his way...
""He was dangerous. I'd always felt that from him, even back in high school. But it had hones to perfection in the years since."
Shane King, known as the Ghost, is the vice president of Red Demons... He and his crew had arrived to town with a purpose... They own to his oldest best friend to take care of his family, but his older sister is giving them grief... And even though his old crush for her is still lingering, he will honor her wishes even though that's going against his MC code and stay away from her!!!
"I ws going to ruin her..."
Cali and Shane's story hasn't even begun when Kali is being forced to take a road trip to Frisco to get her reckless sister back from the bikers' clutches, but things will change rapidly in the blink of the eye for her and Shane... Their old feelings are coming back with vengeance and the complications will turn their world upside down... Is Kali strong enough to bare this crazy life that Shane is leading??? Will Shane let her go after he is having a taste of her???
"There ain't no normal for you and me, and babe, there is a you and me."
I loved Kali and Shane very much in here!!! They were explosive together and their ride was a wild one... Full of turns and suspense!!! But they weren't the only ones that I fell for.... Tijan is having this ability to make magic all around the main couple and I fell in love with all the secondary characters and their crazy MC world!!!
"Life was good. If you had people who loved you and were in your corner, life was damn good."
**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review**
This was a fast paced beautiful book about Love, family, friendship and found family.
Shane and Kali knew each other from their high school days. Even though they were secretly attracted to each other, they were never close. Fast forward a decade they accidentally meet again and sparks fly.
I loved both MCs. They both were strong, loyal and had that no nonsense attitude. And they had some serious chemistry. The love scenes were 🔥!
Overall I enjoyed the book especially the second half. I couldn’t stop reading. But I did have some problems with it.
(Maybe minor spoilers ahead)
In the first half of the book I adored Kali, Aly and Harper’s bond but then in the second half I got so mad at Aly. She was selfish and never apologised for her behaviour and choice. I was kinda scared that Kali being Kali will forgive her easily and that’s what happened. In the whole book the secrecy around what Connor had to do was portrayed as a huge thing, so when it was executed, it was kinda anticlimactic and instead of ‘seeing’ we were told what happened, which I always hated happening in the book. In fact most of the things were done similarly in the last chapter. I absolutely HATE when there are loose ends in the book. Which there were many in here. Like what happened to Crow and his gang specifically, what did they do with Shelly, Connor’s whereabouts and last but not the least what was that bullshit about they don’t know of Marco’s status? He was the main Villain! Still it was entertaining and I was never bored.
I received an advance review copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
—MC romance. —Older protagonists. —Friendship, Found Family —Standalone, KU and safe.
I finished this book only because I want to know the favor that the FMC’s brother does for the club. I read a lot of romances and the FMC in this one is truly disgusting and has no brain cells.
Spoiler here if you are curious about the brother.
He is in prison because he robbed a judge’s house and killed the judge’s kid. The cell he is in is also the same cell that the seconds in command to the villain in this book, Marco Estranada something, is in. The club has beef with Estranada. The favor is, the brother will kill Estranada’s second in command, thus making him vulnerable, then the club can finish him off. The brother came to the MMC with this proposal because he is not getting out, (because killing a judge’s kid, you know, kid of someone important is far more unforgivable than a mere normal citizen kid) he might as well do this for the club and his family can profit from it.
Slow, boring, no great surprises. 2 dimensional characters but the main issue was the truly awful writing style. I really think that the Tijan just writes whatever pops into their head regardless of how awful and annoying it is. Don’t know how anyone can leave a good review for this book. Had to persevere to finish to find out what the brother was going to do for the MC and when it was finally revealed it was just a let down. Wished I hadn’t bothered wasting my time on this one. Will probably avoid the author’s other work like the plague.
Couldn’t put it down. Started at 7am and finished in the afternoon while at the beach. I don’t normally read Motorcycle Club romances however I knew if anyone could keep me captivated it would be Tijan. Fast paced, insta-lust, action, interesting friend groups, dual POV, characters in their 30s, and spice. I liked both the FMC and MC however I do wish we had flashbacks since they knew of each other in the past. I think that would have given more depth to their relationship. Great characters and I loved the banter with the friend groups. I also really appreciated that the Author had a friend of a character not agree with their decisions and how that played out in their dynamic because that does happen in real life. The FMC and MC have great chemistry and he would do anything for her. There are also some surprise mentions of other Tijan world characters. This was a page turner and I highly recommend it!
I’ll give this book some credit: it’s the author’s first MC book, and it’s a proper MC read. You couldn’t easily copy / paste another job or lifestyle for the hero. Sometimes when authors who don’t usually write MC try it, they make the MC part vague, and it might as well not even be that genre. But, it’s not vague here. And the hero isn't softened, he's a real criminal – which is what I want from that genre.
Also, this author's writing can be sloppy and chaotic, but it's improved. This book feels more polished than some of her past stuff. So, that's nice. But, that’s all the credit I can give to this book. Maybe 2 stars is a bit harsh since I did enjoy the beginning, but then this book pissed me off for over half of it.
Kali (36) is down on her luck after a bad divorce. Her brother is in jail. Shane is her brother’s old friend who is in an MC. Kali had a crush on Shane in school, but hasn’t seen him in years, until his club is suddenly in her town. They’re attracted to each other, but she doesn’t want much to do with the MC lifestyle. Also, in Shane's POV chapters, there are hints that he might have orders to hurt her, even though he doesn’t want to. That’s an intriguing plot set-up that kept me reading. I really thought this could be a 3 star - or even a 4 star! - book during the first quarter of it.
Then, this goes downhill. For bad Plot Reasons, Kali gets involved with Shane and his club. (Seriously, there needed to be a better reason to make this happen, it's the most half-assed reason. Kali’s terrible sister follows the MC, so Kali goes to rescue her. That made Kali seem weak – for bending over backwards to help a sister who has always been awful to her! Maybe the author thought that would make Kali likeable? It doesn’t.).
It’s fine for a heroine in an MC story to want nothing to do with that life – that can be interesting. But this book skipped the part where she comes around on it. She just went from not being into it, to embracing it. She went from Point A to Point C, skipping over Point B. Kali seemed like a decent heroine at first, but she COMPLETELY lost her sense of self in the middle of this story. Her life revolved around Shane, which is pathetic for a 36 year old woman. And we weren't given much relationship development. A lot of this book is spent on MC politics. Shane spent more time running around meeting with cartel guys than he spent with Kali. Meanwhile, Kali just aimlessly hung out at a house where he stashed her. She doesn't really get meaningful interactions with Shane, or anyone in the club. She barely gets her own plot. She lets Shane order her around, and embraces this outlaw lifestyle for no reason. She defends Shane when her friend is like "Doesn't he do crimes?" Kali didn't grow up in this world. Aside from having a brother in jail, she's a "regular" person. We're given no reason why she's cool with his club's crimes. She just is.
(For a much better MC book where the heroine doesn't want the MC lifestyle, in The Skeleton King by Lauren Gilley, the plot forces that heroine into the club in a better way that doesn't make her seem weak. And, it takes the time to develop the heroine's interaction with the club and everyone in it, and show us her life before the club. So, it doesn't come out of nowhere when she's eventually cool with it).
This book forgets to develop Kali. Like, we’re told that she knew that her ex-husband cheated on her. So, it’s posed as a question, why did she stay with him? But that question never gets answered! So as a result, I can’t respect Kali. A heroine who stays with a cheater is weak, unless we get a compelling reason for her behavior, and this book forgets to give us a reason. Kali is also weak because she knows that Shane is involved in some stuff that’s going to hurt her brother. She brings it up several times at the beginning, but then she just forgets about it, until it comes up again at the end. So, I couldn’t enjoy her (limited) interactions with Shane, because I was like, “What’s he doing that’s harming your brother? Why are you just kissing him, why aren’t you pushing him to tell you?” It’s frustrating to watch a heroine melt for a hero, when she knows that he may be harming one of her family members. That makes it impossible to like or respect her, or to get invested in their romance.
This author usually writes New Adult heroines in high school or college. A 36 year old divorcee is the oldest heroine she’s written. I was intrigued by that, and curious to see what she'd do with a more mature heroine. But, it hardly made a difference, Kali didn't act mature. She may have even been less mature and had less of a sense of self than many of this author's past heroines. This author needs to stick to New Adult heroines. This kind of behavior where a heroine gets completely swept up in a hero’s life is more understandable and forgivable for a young heroine. At 36, Kali should know better. She even says to herself, “I’m an idiot.” That's true, she is! And just acknowledging that doesn’t absolve this book of writing a weak and stupid heroine.
This author really has a way of sucking you into a story even when it has a few things you don’t normally like in a book. That’s the only reason this is a four star and not a five star. A few things were a bit of a snag for me, but really, this writing is phenomenal as always.
I love Tijan and I love MC/gang books. I did not love them combined. I think that is why I couldn’t finish the Crew series. Because I didn’t, that may be why some of the storyline makes no sense. So if you liked the whole Crew series, maybe this book won’t be as bad for you. I enjoyed that it took place in Indiana until it didn’t anymore. I am not at all ok with the magically healed friendship between Aly and Kali. Honestly, in real life, a lot of very ugly things could be said about Aly. Some about Kali but 3 days makes you turn on a life long friend like that? And then after those words were uttered, you planned her baby shower? Nope. I understand that there were attempts to allude to several series in this story, but it was too much. Because no I have a bad feeling about further stories in this genre from this author.

📌“She wasn’t anything like any other woman I’d known. She was rare.”
📌“Things changed, and I’m thinking we’ve got a pattern here. There ain’t no normal for you and me, and babe, there is a you and me.”
📌“I have a thing about masks. I don’t want you to ever feel like you have to wear one with me. I could tell you wore one in high school. Broke my heart even back then. I don’t want you to do that, not with me, not where we are.”
Last week, I was commenting on a booksta friend’s social about morally gray characters and their ☠️ tendencies… and I said, “it’s not like he cheated. That’s where the line is drawn.” Clearly(!), Tijan saw that, rushed into her office, wrote this book and immediately published it. Yes, that’s the timeline. 👀 Because this is the embodiment of my feelings. Those tendencies might have been all over the place, but he wasn’t like her piece-of-expired-food-ex 😤
And if you’ve been here for a while, you probably know how much I love Tijan’s books. I think Hockey With Benefits changed my literary life.
Since then, I’ve read (and bought 😜) many Tijan books and every single one has been a home run. They’re up there at the top of my mountain of favorites. Frisco was no exception. I loved the dark edgy vibe one can only get with motorcycle romances. I loved how this had a dash of second chance. I loved how their connection was always ever present.
I loved the plot. Goodness, how I loved the plot. I didn’t always love Aly but alas, happy for you girl. Now let my girl be. 😠
Like my thoughts after finishing, this book was all over the place. And not up to what I’d expected from a Tijan book. I dunno, maybe my expectations were too high. There were good parts, but overall not enough of them to hide the negatives.
When a Tijan book lands in my kindle the whole world ceases to exist! Nothing else matters because once you start you’re all in and your only focus is on the world you become consumed by!
Shane and Kali consumed me today and I loved every damn word of this book! I couldn’t stop reading and the moments where I had to my mind was back in the book with the characters waiting to be picked back up. I love MC books and the world that Tijan created is one I want more of.
The action, the storyline, the characters, all of it consumed me and I couldn’t get enough of the connection between Shane and Kali. These two were made for each other and I love that Tijan took us through every step of their journey!
Another hit for me and this couple has my everything! Shane and Kali are my faves!
Tijan is one of my comfort authors so no matter what book she writes I will be reading and most likely will enjoy. Frisco is another one for that list.
Shane King was not a good guy. He went by the name Ghost with his motorcycle club for a reason. When him and his club arrive in Kali’s town, they owed her a favour for reasons she didn’t know. Kali knew Shane from a past life and seeing him again brought back feelings she didn’t know existed. What happens when Shane has to pick between her and the club? Can he be both a villain and a hero?
This story had such a fun yet dark plot involving motorcycle clubs, the cartel and of course romances. I loved Shane and Kali as individually they were both so strong and loyal but strengthened each other when together. I loved witnessing Shane soften for only her but be tough and ruthless with everyone else
But… and it pains me that there is a but, there were just so many side characters I literally could not keep up with who is who and what role they played to the point I kinda just merged them together as a few key characters. It took away from the book as I was constantly trying to remember who they were.
Overall, I really did enjoy the story and as always I love revisiting towns and characters from previous books/series. It didn’t end in any cliffhangers but there are a few unanswered questions, future books in this world maybe? I will forever recommend Tijan to anyone and everyone as she was an author who made me fall in love with reading.
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Tropes include: * Brother’s Best Friend * Motorcycle Club * Anti Hero * Protective MMC * Touch her & die
I really struggled with this book and didn’t enjoy it which shocked me as I absolutely love lots of Tijan’s book. Normally I wouldn’t rate or review books I don’t enjoy, but it was playing on my mind. I honestly believe that this book just isn’t for me, not that it’s bad. It does seem like I’m in the minority and most people enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed the concept of this book, it had so much potential and I enjoyed the first couple chapters. One of the biggest drawbacks is that the plot didn’t make sense to me, I didn’t feel like it had a clear direction. Lots of things seemed out of character for the heroine. Lots of things felt unresolved or left questions that wasn’t answered.
I didn’t find any of the characters likeable. At first I did like both MCs but then quickly lost interest in them. Shane definitely held more appeal to me. I did like that the characters were an older age in this book. When I think of the heroine my mind literally goes blank, I can’t explain her decisions, her personality or anything about her except she had two friends who ended up not being very good friends and she texts/ calls her dad a lot but their relationship/ his character is never explained. Is she supposed to be strong, emotional, intelligent? I don’t know. Whereas, a previous Tijan book, Teardrop Shot which I read years ago I can remember that heroine being quirky and funny to hide her deep pain, that she thought she wasn’t a good person/ friend when in fact she was amazing.
The tension in this book felt unnecessary and ultimately didn’t add anything to the book. I did enjoy seeing Fallen Crest though and the mentions of some of my favourite characters from Tijan. I am really looking forward to Kade.
I didn’t feel the romance between Shane and Kali, however on a more positive note they did definitely have chemistry.
I love MC romance and read a lot of them so I was so excited to see Tijan’s take on it as I love her books like Canary (which was a five star read for me). But the MC in this book did not endear me to the book.
I almost DNF so many times but kept going, hoping it would get better.
I do still love Tijan and hope this review is more constructive criticism than anything horrible as authors put a lot of effort and work into a book.
I love this author’s writing so when I seen she wrote about an MC & it was set in Frisco, close to where my favourite series of her was based?! Hellllll yesss!
I loved Kali & her two crazy best friends! They had me cracking up anytime they were on the page together. Kali had been through alot & even though I never fully understood her decisions regarding Foley, I still liked her character growth throughout the book.
But Ghost?! Yum!!!! I loved him! Like hello my new book boyfriend. He was delicious & this book was full of intrigue, sexiness, alpha men, & so many twists & turns. I was addicted & couldn’t put it down until I devoured the whole thing. It’s definitely one I will read again!
This crafty storyteller is a favorite, and I’ve loved everything I’ve read by her so far. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with this one, and I’m sure most of the problem is with my dislike of the MC trope.
The quick and dirty is, if you love MC romance, you'll love this one. If not, try something else from her catalog and I’m confident you’ll love it, because her writing is terrific.
So while this sounds like a negative review, I'm assuming all of the blame and don’t feel it’s fair to penalize a book because it didn’t happen to be to my taste.
Yeah, I've read hundreds of MCs and this one was average. I get that it was the first one for Tijan and had to have a bit more on set up before any action happened. So half the book was slow reading, IMHO.
I liked the characters and yet the romance connection was so tentative for so long with so much happening that it felt disjointed and not real. Female Main character has a fair amount of down time in cars or rooms that is a bit boring as her MC boyfriend takes on cartel bad guys.
Why did she stay so long with Foley? Such an odd connection with her dad...why didnt he help her with Foley divorce? My opinion is that a chapter early on with the high school connections and Connor/Shane interaction with Aly, Harper, and Kali might of warmed us up better with some of adult l situations.
Well, don't give up Tijan... The books I love of yours, I love with great passion...this just wasn't one of them.
My favorite MC writers are Bink Cummings and Scott Hildreth...both real life bikers/authors.
I read a book from this author recently that was chaotic as heck BUT the FMC was on the spectrum so I figured it was written that way to better enforce her POV......turns out that's just this author's writing style 😂😂😂😂😂
Not really into MC books but had to read it coz… Tijan Ok read, I guess, but the whole biker scene just of little interest to me plus the insta lust is wearing thin, yeah it’s Tijan’s formula but has not worked for me since Kings of New York. Bring back the magic of Bennett Mafia or Enemies 🙏
DNF The writing style is chaotic and not my cup Of tea. The book suffers from too many secrets. When everything is a secret there’s nothing to carry the story. A bunch of cute phone convos with fmc and her dad and roommate shenanigans. I was bored and confused.
