Nannette Weatherford, an ornithologist and conservationist, stands as the last line of defense for Earth's diminishing natural habitats. Her greatest challenge? Osborne Mariner, a driven industrialist and the only son of her family's age-old rival.
Osborne, focused on leading the charge in human progress, refuses to let Nannette's passionate but, in his view, impractical efforts hinder his industrial ambitions—even as he secretly admires her tenacity.
Forced to share accommodations at a boarding house famed for its owner's penchant for matchmaking, Nannette and Osborne agree on only one staying away from each other is the best plan. However, the meddling owner has other ideas, using every trick in the book to push them together.
A conservationist and an industrialist can't ever see eye to eye on what's best for the Earth. Why should the foolish woman think that something more than animosity can ever exist between them.
The Boarding House Belles is a multi-author series. They are clean historical westerns with a touch of mystery, suspense, secrets, and romance. Because these stories are by different authors, they can be read in any order. The story will focus on Nannette Weatherford and Osborne Mariner.
Nannette Weatherford has been away from Mariner’s Bluff, South Carolina, since she was seventeen, for about four years, but has returned during the summer of 1872. Her father has taken ill, and after she returns home, he will pass away. Before his passing, on his deathbed, he made some odd statements. Nannette believes that the Mariners are responsible for Elias’s broken heart, loss of land, and death.
Osborne Mariner is proud of the family’s forge that has provided countless jobs for townspeople. He has taken over the management of the forge and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, working the metal along with others.
“The forge was another point of contention between the Mariners and the Weatherfords, although some considered it more of a personal grievance between Nannette and Osborne than part of the family feud.”
The story’s plot revolves around a family feud, stories, and a mystery. Should the town be called Weatherford Bay or Mariner’s Bluff? What happens when Nannette decides to paint over the sign and change it to Weatherford Bay, and then, when arguing with Osborne, she tosses the remaining paint in her bucket over him? Osborne goes to Sheriff Aloysius Greeman wanted her arrested, but it doesn’t happen.
Then, as if things don’t get any crazier, Jasper Mariner tells his son he is going to Louisiana and that the house is under construction, and he will need to stay at Miss Magnolia Boudreaux’s Boarding House for Refined Ladies and Gentlemen. When Nannette arrives at her family home, it is being boarded up, and she can’t stay there, so she has no recourse but to go the Miss Magnolia’s too.
This was an intriguing story of uncovering mystery, revenge, secrets, lies, and truths. What I especially liked was how Nannette and Osborne decided to put their differences aside and see what they could learn together, rather than assuming or making accusations. But in their discoveries, have they opened a Pandora’s Box that will unleash other secrets? Have the two families been feuding for no real reason at all? What will come of the truth and the slow-burning relationship between Nannette and Osborne?
I love this book. I enjoyed how Nannette and Osborne had both led lives filled with stories about the feud between their families. When they are suddenly thrown together, having to live in the same boarding house, things will take a different turn between them. Nannette is forced to live there due to her Father's passing and their home being taken from her. Osborne's father is going on a trip and he has decided while gone to do major reconstruction of their home. So Osborne is also forced to live at the boarding house. Sparks will fly light lightening bugs! But secrets long hidden will also come to light! This is an incredible book!
Nannette and Osborne's families has always been feuding. Living in the same boarding house have them constantly thrown together by a meddling owner trying to match them. Will the conservationist and industrialist finally catch feelings for each other and end the family's feud. This story is captivating and drew me in as I connected with the characters.

This book gave an old time feeling of the Hatfields and McCoy tale. Until a mystery involving both families changes everything. Short, quick enemies to lover's story that was entertaining and enjoyable. I enjoyed the characters and how they were portrayed in the story, and can't wait for the next book from this author.

Wow, what a story. Osborne and Nannette think they hate each other because their families have been feeding for generations. They stumble upon a mystery regarding their families lands and in spending time together everything changes. Theirs is a story full of mystery and romance. A great read.
I love an enemies to lovers story and this was perfect! I kept my attention and intrigue the entire time! I love that they gave love a chance and saw the beauty in both ways of life! Amazing!
I always know that I’m going to get an interesting story from this author. It will have romance, conflicts, humor, often mystery, and a few surprises. This one did not disappoint me. Family feuds are hard to overcome. In this case, no one even knows what the feud is about. Attraction and finding out that they are really not as different as they’ve always thought, makes this a very interesting story.
