In the western Deadlands, the Blight has risen. Something unknown yet terrible is transpiring there. Panicked, the gods of Elatra hurriedly sent a message to all high-Level Combat Class
Band together. Stop this threat. Or all will be lost.
Rob and Riardin's Rangers have been put in the awkward position of needing to ally with the gods and the Dragon Queen in order to survive. It's an uneasy alliance that only grows more strained as time goes on. Mutual benefit is barely enough to keep them from turning on each other.
It's still nothing compared to what they'll face in the Deadlands. Within the Blights' personal heaven, hell awaits for everyone else.
And after that...
Well.
The gods. The Blight. Dragon Queen Ragnavi.
Riardin's Rangers.
Forces are colliding.
Only one faction will survive.
About the An Outcast in Another World is a LitRPG adventure series with elements of fantasy, portal fantasy, isekai, progression, and weak-to-strong character development. Victories are difficult but earned. Rob gains strength at a rate that continuously increases his importance in the world, but without making his allies irrelevant. The plot has consistent forward momentum, and the story's cast of characters is fully fleshed-out, each with their own struggles. Fight scenes are high-octane brawls that involve creative applications of Rob's abilities. Book 5 also comes with a bonus side story included at the end.
Hello all you lovely people! My name is Brett - a.k.a. KamikazePotato - and I've been a massive fan of fantasy stories since the first time I first picked up a book. Over the years, I've devoured well over 100 fantasy novels, dozens of fantasy video games, plenty of fantasy TV shows and movies...you get the idea.
Naturally, this made me want to create a fantasy world of my own. Around the time I decided to sit down and write a story I would actually share with everyone, I also got into the LitRPG genre, and here we are.
I plan to write plenty more stories in this genre, and to spread my wings out to other genres as well! Writing is a joy, and so is getting to see people enjoy what I've created.
Not putting it as “read” for this year, but it deserves a review.
TL; DR: The conclusion to An Outcast in Another World continues its trend of excellence, culminating in a final chapter worthy of the series and oh so satisfying in its characters.
I finished this a couple of minutes ago and while I listened to the final book as two separate audiobooks, I couldn’t help but feel I should review as one big finale. This series was a gift. I enjoyed the characters, I felt the tragedies and trials, I cheered and fist pumped and smiled and laughed and it was all so worth it. I can’t begin to describe how much I enjoyed a melancholy smile at the end, knowing it was over but still glad I made the journey.
Characters: They’re consistent, believable, and engaging. There’s this air of disbelief I sometimes get in litRPGs where I go “yeah, but that wouldn’t have worked in reality” or “nobody would actually behave like that.” Nope, not here. Every time I expected some stupid change of traits or behaviors, no…it was what should have happened, what their character would have believed was the choice. It was glorious and predictable in the best way possible. Writers should surprise you, characters shouldn’t.
Setting: Elantra and beyond. It’s an awesome and well-designed world that plays to stereotypes and beliefs, be it the behaviors on Earth or the realms of the gods, it didn’t matter. Each location felt unique and I couldn’t help but enjoy what each piece was.
Story: Exactly what you wanted it to be. I won’t go too in depth as, if you’ve finished the other books, you know what you’re getting into. It will be what you wanted ever since you finished the first book, and I couldn’t have felt happier about it.
Writing: Well-thought out and planned. Sacrifices and non-sacrifices, decisions, plot points, everything meant something and that is an achievement on its own, but to bring it back around in the final book is a feat that so many fall short on too often. It’s great to have a story reach its conclusion and I was in it the whole way.
No further platitudes or praises, this series is great. It’s not as awe-inspiring as some others I’ve read, but to keep the pace for the entirety of the series and let the reader just enjoy what you’ve laid out for them…I’m just glad I was here to listen along.
Alternate universe, magic, LitRPG, quests, fantasy races
Rob, his friends, and their allies have tough challenges in this 750+ tome of adventure, betrayal, loss, and more.
Totally think Rob should have brought his girlfriend to meet Jason's girlfriend and to meet his parents, because that's what a serious boyfriend does.
I think there was opportunity for at least one more novel, and how contact with Elatra might affect Earth. Trade, too, has opportunities, such as using magic to assist with developing space travel, solving pollution, and more. Surprised that Rob didn't attempt to resurrect his grandpa with the assistance Dr Hauz, once they got access to the soul repository. And it was never mentioned if live births resumed, an important fact.
With the looming battle against the Blight in front of him, Rob has to navigate depths of despair that he's never faced before...
Honestly, I have to say this is one of the best series finale's I have read. While there are things I would have liked to have seen, but they would have been icing on the cake as it were. This book hit all the right notes and stops for me, and was an excellent end to an above average series. Well done.
I really enjoyed this series. The main character is very compelling. Overpowered, but still fitting into the world very well. His supporting cast is also very relatable. Toward the end it did feel like the author was piling on a bit too many hardships almost to the point that it felt contrived. Everytime the MC was victorious the author turned it into a defeat. That said, the last 5% was pretty satisfying.
Very nice set of conclusions to various storylines and a bit sad the adventures are over
I really enjoyed this entire series and this concluding book. The author nicely wraps up several loose ends, but… maybe there is room for one last short story post-Elantra? What will Jason and Rob do with Earth? Will Riadan’s Rangers need to travel to Earth? I can always wish, haha.
To the writer(s): THANK YOU! Thank you for an amazing series, and giving us a fantastic, fun ending to a great series.
Readers: You don’t want to miss this. Easily one of the best series I’ve ever read, of ANY genre. So much fun, so funny, interesting, intense — I couldn’t put it down at all!
Given how many issues still remain, the book manages to go through each of them, give them all the gravitas they deserve, and manage to not completely forget the rest of the Rangers while doing it. A more full conclusion than most books, and all it took was an extended length? Well worth the wait.
This story had it's up and downs somethings I liked and some I hated the the story was intense the characters were deep and it never felt like author was in a rush and cutting short important facts
It was fun to have the good guys finish first! The book gets a little out there with all the gods and skills and soul talk. Finishes well with the main characters completing their major tasks in spite of the odds!
I just finished reading book 6 & I'm still thinking, is it Really Over!? I just loved all the books. The fast learning skill was Bomb! The chapter of skills & level up, Wow. But looking forward to more soon!
Could not get enough of this book once I started. Stayed up to 4am reading to the detriment of my work schedule. Fantastic fights, great ending, relationships and friendships were forged in fire in this book. Can’t wait to recommend this series to friends.
Great end to a fantastic series. No bs, time skipping, or rush job to finish off a series. No, this book took its time and dotted every “i” and crossed every “t”. Rob still made his jokes, Riarden’s Rangers didn’t fall off/helped at the end, and Jason still kicked ass on earth.
This is a satisfying but verbose conclusion to an excellent series. I enjoyed the revelations and how the story was wrapped up, but I must admit to skimming parts where the storytelling became too drawn-out and plodding.
I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and engaging. It's a good ending. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
I didn’t enjoy this last one . I skipped the story till I got to the main event then skipped again. Over stretched and over detailed. Plus, I got disappointed at many events. However, thank you for the story and your efforts.
I have read the whole series and everyone that reads this review, just has to as well! Honestly, I think this competes with Lord of the rings for my favorite series I've ever read.
I will recommend this series I like it alot. Now to the author give use some short stories from him being back I mean seriously need that after I've been hyped for it half way thru.
Who would have thought that the end of insanity would be so human and heartfelt. What a ride, and what a close. No moment overstayed. No feeling overstated. Just a SERIES among series. My soul rejoices.
As the title says, I really wished for more of an epilogue with Robs reunion, and bringing his friends to his home. As the last book in the series... It just felt so brief and so unfulfilling, like it cut off 3 chapters early.
Took me a while to chew through the series and while I'm happy I did, I most likely won't be re-reading this one. That said...it was fun to read and the worldbuilding was actually quite good :)
