Singer-songwriter Charlotte Kenner has it all: blockbuster record sales, sold-out world tours, and multiple Grammy awards. It's everything she hoped for in life. It should be enough . . . but it's not.

As her career soars, Charlotte discovers the steep price fame demands of its stars. She pays for it day and night, stalked by hordes of celebrity-hunting paparazzi, sleeping alone in cold hotel beds, miles away from her family and friends. Every moment micromanaged by a full-time staff, she travels the world in an insulated bubble.

Charlotte’s reprieve arrives in the form of close friend and filmmaker Matthew Selman, the director behind a career-spanning documentary on legendary Seattle grunge band, Clever Check. One piece of the documentary still needs finalizing: an interview with reclusive bassist Ethan Avery, who has been avoiding Matthew’s repeated requests to appear on camera. With time running out, Matthew tasks Charlotte with traveling to Ethan’s home state of Montana to spend a few days with him, steal past his enigmatic facade, and shoot the final footage needed to meet the film’s deadline.

Montana’s starry skies bear witness to an instant connection between Charlotte and Ethan, one that must be wrenched apart by weekend’s end. They return to their busy careers, but Ethan is never far from Charlotte’s mind. Her feelings for him are so sudden, so intense, she knows he couldn’t possibly feel the same . . . or could he? With their lives and careers propelling them forward but on seemingly separate paths, Charlotte fears she’ll never get the chance to find out.

In Montana, she got a glimpse of the life she truly desires—quiet and peaceful, far beyond the glitz and glamour of show business. But how can a star that shines so bright slip into the shadows? If Charlotte thinks the price of fame is steep, she’s about to learn that love exacts a whole different cost.

"Received and ARC for an honest review"

I just finished reading... I'm speechless, I absolutely fell in live with it. Ethan has entered my heart.

Charlotte is a strong character, she is an amazing songwriter and is very grounded, not your typical diva, it makes you wish all artists where the same, that they keep doing their work with the same passion they started with.

The story is simply perfect. Did I wish to read more about them, well yes and no. The ending is perfect, but if Alexandra decides to give them a go in the future I will more than willingly jump in the wagon with her.

The story itself shows us how there is always more behind anything an artist show us. How their lives define how they express it, no matter if they are songwriters or sketching artists. The way Ethan evolves in the story and start to open up about himself to Charlotte is beautiful.

I think Alexandra Richland has outdone herself again. If you haven't had a chance to read her other books, I have no idea why, but still go get them now. You'll be greatly surprised and I'm sure you will become a fan. As for this book, it is a must read.

Actual 4.5

This is the fourth book I have read by Alexandra Richland and the fourth book of hers that I really enjoyed. There is just something about Alexandra's writing that draws you in and makes you become so invested to her characters. And this book was no different.

Almost from the very first pages I was already intrigued by Charlotte's story. There was just something about her that immediately made me invested in what happens to her. And when we were introduced to Ethan, it was obvious that they were going to go end up together. But that still didn't keep me from turning each page, anticipating the moment were they both would realize their feelings for one another.
Their journey felt like a long one (probably because I was anticipating it so much), but it was a beautiful one. The beauty of this relationship, what makes it so different from other love stories, and frankly what made it so enjoyable, is the slow sweet pace with with real genuine path to happiness. And once we get what we were waiting for, I soooo wanted more. I wanted to find out how Charlotte and Ethan balance with relationship and their careers and I hope this is not the end of the this story!

Alexandra Richland's "Slip Away" in a nutshell: Multiple Grammy-award winning Singer-songwriter Charlotte Kenner is finishing her tour promoting her album, and she's feeling a bit overwhelmed by the way her career is going so far. She's been in the music business for a while, so she definitely knows her way around. But she still feels like something is missing. She's especially worried that the routine of her life will make her lose her creativity as an artist. So when her close friend director Matthew Selman asks her to do him the favor of meeting reclusive bassist of the famous grunge band Clever Check, Ethan Avery, for his documentary on the band, she travels to Montana to get some information. What she wasn't expecting was to fall for him!

*SPOILER ALERT.....SPOILER ALERT*

This book was really cute! I enjoyed most of the pacing of it; some parts in the middle were a little slow, but the beginning and ending were fantastic. I liked how easy and open Charlotte and Ethan's relationship started, from friendship to a budding romance, even with the annoying hounds of paparazzi following them everywhere.

I got a little worried when Aaron from Phantom Rhage, another grunge band member and friend of Charlotte's, admitted (but not to her) of his feelings, but it was clear that Charlotte had deeper feelings for Ethan.

I must admit, when Ethan said he thought of Charlotte as a "little sister" during the press conference at Toronto International Film Festival, aka TIFF, for the documentary, I cried! Because I wanted them to be together, and when he said that, it tore me apart, and I could tell that Charlotte was devastated. But at the end, at a Clever Check concert, when Ethan sang the song that he showed Charlotte in Montana, and the screen of the stadium showed a painting of her, Charlotte just ran to the stage and made out with him, that was my favorite part!! That ending completed the whole book for me, full circle!

My other favorite part was during the TIFF press conference, when a reporter asked why Charlotte and Ethan were holding hands after getting bombarded with paparazzi, Ethan defended her by basically explaining what happened, that he was only trying to get her to her car, by protecting her.

In general, I really liked this book. Richland's writing style made you both relate to both Charlotte and Ethan as to why they love what they do and who they are in the industry. I liked how it also didn't just tell you "the industry is this long road and you can't get out of it" type of ordeal. It actually showed both the positives and negatives of the industry.

Slip Away is a perfect book for the summer if you want something that's fun, sweet, light-hearted, relaxing, charming, or all of the above! I can't wait to see what else Richland comes up with.

I got an advance copy (ARC), I got to say that I have loved Slip Away..I love how the author made her characters come alive. I normally find in novellas that the main characters are hallow and empty and often feel that the stories are rushed. In Slip Away, both Charlotte and Ethan, are both strong characters with actual meat on their bones, you do see a journey for both of them to get to where they need to go, be together.. Mind you, it's not done over night and there is some lack of communication between them, but they get there together.. Ms Richland, takes you on a wonderful insightful journey of the process in the music industry and in the making of a music documentary in order to introduce us to both Charlotte and Ethan. I, personally would have loved to have seen more interaction between the two, but it was also perfect the way it was.

A new novella by one of my favourite authors and as usual, Alexandra Richland doesn't disappoint.

A Simple yet amazing and gripping story line leaves you hanging until the last page. As with all AR' s books she makes the characters strong and believable. The two main characters in this one, Charlotte and Ethan are both in the same work industry but with their hectic workload will they be able to find the time and the strength to realise what they are together is good and worth waiting for.

Once again, Alexandra Richland's writing has taken me into another world. The characters are so well-developed that I felt as though I were Charlotte in the story. My heart lept, I felt loneliness, sadness, and happiness right along with her. Furthermore, Ethan was such an interesting person. It was like someone I have known a long time. I loved the backstage setting of the rock musicians' worlds and the honest personalities of the people. I didn't want the novella to end. Alexandra, can you write a sequel?
