Andrew “D-Day” Nolan came by his call sign naturally. With a great-grandfather and two uncles storming the Normandy Beaches, he has a proud ancestry. Due to a past that is full of heartache, especially with his family, he is wary of most people, women in general. At least, that was until he got tangled up with Sam “Buck” Buckard’s sister, Helen, against the stringent SEAL rule that sisters are off limits. He intends to avoid Helen, adding even more heartache since he’s been adopted by the whole Buckard clan after his frequent visits to Buck’s ranch in Wyoming. He’s going to miss that family and the ranch like hell. It had become more home to him than his own home. But when the team's ongoing mission sends them to the Philippines to prevent a terrible catastrophe, D-Day comes face-to-face with Helen who is working with a US medical group. In the past, he hasn’t been able to resist her, and he knows that given the opportunity, he’ll break his vow.
Helen had no idea when she went home on leave from her job that she would run smack into Andrew “D-Day” Nolan while he was a guest at her family’s ranch. He had been reticent and distant until he wasn’t, and they had carried on a torrid affair right under her family’s noses. She had no idea there was any kind of SEAL rule about sisters, and to be honest, she didn’t much care. Still waters did run deep. Everything went to hell after Buck’s and Mari’s wedding reception, and now she had to deal with her unrequited love…until he shows up at her assignment in Manila. As a highly sought after trauma nurse, she was on a mission to help people in need. But little did she know how dangerous it was to be a pioneer in a country riddled with so many challenges. Criminals and terrorists only had one plan. Extortion, trafficking, and violence were at the top of their agenda. Helen soon discovers that D-Day’s big, strong arms and warrior attitude was all the security she needed.
Zoe Dawson, the author of 40+ books had always dreamed of becoming a full-time romance writer. Her other passions include traveling the world, owning a beach house (she believes she was a mermaid in another life), and seeing her books in movies. When she’s not writing, she’s painting or killing virtual MMORPG monsters in World of Warcraft. She lives in North Carolina with her two grown children and one small, furry gray cat.
I have read all of the SEAL Team books to this point. I really enjoyed them until the last 4. To me, they are not what they were previously. I skimmed a good portion of this book.
D-Day seemed to be stuck on what happened to him in high school. Come on, get over it. Most of us had things happen in high school that we would rather forget. Admittedly his experience was awful, but don't let it define your life. When he finally told his team, they did not think less of him. I just got tired of his 'woe is me' attitude.
Helen was too much of a super girl. Also, she said she was a Midwestern girl from Wyoming. Wyoming is not in the Midwest. It is in the western United States.
Since when is the United States friendly with the Chinese? That character just appeared and then disappeared. She appeared at an opportune time, gave D-Day a jump drive, then disappeared after helping Helen. I would think that the Chinese would have wanted the info and triggers for themselves.
There were also several editing mistakes throughout the book.
I am waiting for the book, Skull, in order to take care of the cliffhanger from Hazard. After that, I will decide if I am going to read anymore. At least this book did not have a cliffhanger.
This story was such an emotional story for me! I've always been a little partial to D-Day. I just never knew or understood the depth of his pain, both with Helen and his past. When D-Day and Helen first started their love story, I'd hoped that D-Day would have had the strength to talk to Buck and work it out so him and Helen could pursue their HEA. The absolute strength of character and love for his team is something truly special. I couldn't help but feel strong sympathy for Helen, to love someone as deeply as she loves D-Day yet have it denied and literally put aside would be devastating!! Helen is an amazing woman, strong, brave and so giving to put herself in danger for the benefit of others is an amazing gift! I literally could not put this book down. This is the first book that Zoe has written that actually had me scared and dreading to turn the page in case something heartbreaking happened. I was so afraid for Zorro and Buck. My favorite part of the story is when Helen comes in and saves the day. I love all of the books that Zoe writes, but this one broke my heart and proceeded to heal it. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Ms. Dawson you hit the ball right of the park with this installment. Can’t say enough good things about this book. I’m a true fan of ALL your series. I’m just two books shy of reading every one! I had just finished Buck’s story and loved it except for me the mission resolution was just “too neat” without much angst. But now comes D-Day and wow, was it ever a truly engaging story. SO WELL Told with a storyline that included SEAL Team camaraderie and selflessness, D-Day’s unrelenting drive to save the love of his life, Helen, and an extremely important mission. And what a mission it was!! The twists and turns were so engrossing. Loved the off the charts, entertaining bantering, too. The characters were so well developed…. Both the good and bad. Readers are also forced to ponder whether “the bad guys” can have some good in them also. Ms. Dawson, in my opinion, you out did yourself. I can’t wait for Zorro and Bear’s story. Hope those are in the works soon. Highly recommended read!
Another brilliant book in this series, highly recommended. D-Day (Drew) and Helen, Buck’s sister, have fallen for each other hard but their relationship is totally against the team brother code. Helen works as a nurse with a team providing medical care to poorer countries, and ends up being kidnapped whilst in the Philippines. D-Day’s team goes in to rescue her and things do not go smoothly. Drew and Helen’s relationship is intense, but he cannot totally acknowledge his true feelings, not only because of the brother code but because of an incident which happened whilst he was a teenager. Will he push his feelings to one side or will he come to terms with his past? I became totally immersed in this storyline, it’s well written, and I cannot wait to read Zorro’s story.
Zoe Dawson knocks another book outta the park! I love the primary characters. They were created to be imperfect, but perfect for each other. The kinks in their armor showed real issues that affect a promising relationship. The way Ms Dawson portrayed Drew and Helen’s sporadic and convoluted thoughts tumbling around in their heads, draws in the reader to walk the labyrinth with them. The gripping drama, intrigue, action, suspense and of course romance kept me glued to my chair. The bond and camaraderie among the team of SEALS, supporting cast, is always heartwarming to watch and fun to see the status of their relationships in the series. I highly recommend. I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
Zoe once again has give us non stop action coupled with emotion turmoil that breaks your heart. I love the strength, camaraderie & loyalty these seals brothers have for each other. The alpha oozes from D-Day as he battles his emotions & the leads the rescue for Helen. Brilliant off the charts heat that burns & love that shines. Amazingly done! Love that we get snippets of other seals in every book.
D-Day is an another great story with Drew and Helen. Their personalities are complimentary to balance each other out. The action and suspense is exciting and the love is genuine.
There are a few slow repetitive internal monologues by the characters, but overall it was a great book and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
Finally D-Day and Helen get their happy ending! I've been waiting for them to get their mess together for a bit. D-Day breaks my heart, with his demons and past heartache, but especially the self inflicted heartache of keeping his distance from Helen and subsequantly the whole family. But of course, fate has different opinions and thrusts them in each other paths, with a dangerous situation, forcing them to face their undying feelings. Love, danger, action and suspense kept me captivated with the story.
This book was about two people overcoming their own demons while working hard to do all they can to save people's lives. Everything, including their happiness and their future were on the line to complete a vital mission that had repercussions for not only the Philippines, but for the whole of the South China Sea.
This was a really good story, I have been waiting for this since Buck's story and the intensity between Drew and Helen is awesome. It felt like it was a bit all over the place at times but that matched D-Day's state of mind.
Andrew “D-Day” Nolan is a Nay Seal on Seal Team Alpha. Helen Buckard is his teammate Buck’s sister who is a nurse.
D-Day and Helen have a past since his teammate Buck’s wedding. The Chemistry and attraction is slow burning to explosive and off the charts. Helen helps D-Day with his struggles and makes him see his potential and worth! Can the work through their issues and complete the mission? You will have to read the book to see what happens.
This book has edge of your seat suspense , danger and intrigue.
The storyline was exciting and action packed. The characters had depth and honor except the bad guys obviously. Helen and Do day's love is intense and everlasting. Guaranteed HEA. Can't wait for the next one.
A good book that I enjoyed reading. I thought D-Day and Helen were solid MCs. This book had a unique story line that I liked with lots of suspense throughout the story.
