From bestselling author Mike Kraus comes a new, five-book An Oral History of the Dragon War. In what can be best described as "World War Z with dragons," Drake portrays a realistic, scientific history of the emergence of the drakes, and humanity's subsequent battle just to stay alive. The gripping 5-part series will take you around the world, examining the history of the war from all political, military, civilian, scientific and more.
Even though this is not typical of something that I would normally pick up on my own to read, I thought that I would give it a shot. What is there not to like about dragons? So without further delay, if you love dragons, then there is no way you will not like this read. It was quick and interesting all in one. This is the first book in a five part series about dragons and their war that is going on with the humans. It was an amazing perspetive and the author did a great job in capturing the audience’s attention with very little effort. There was nothing extravagant that an ordinary person who was not totally into dragons wouldn’t understand. This book was interesting to me and I normally don’t give dragons a second though. The book is written interview style, so this may throw you at first, but the creativeness that the author has put behind such a novel and the beginning of a series is amazing. My brain was able to make conclusions and make some answers up in my own head along the way, and I liked that. With novels like this, sometimes you feel like you are being told a lot of facts and that can be a bore. This was nothing like that. It captivated you. It kept you interested. To end it off, I would probably never have found Mike’s books on my own and I am so pleased to have been a part of the tour to review his novel. He has now opened me up to a whole new world and genre that I never knew was even out there or that I would enjoy. I can’t wait to see how the series will move on fro here. Thanks Mike!
Disclosure: I received this book in exchange for my review. All thoughts are my own.
All dragon lovers will enjoy this read, and it's a quick and fulfilling read at that.
What drew me in was the style of writing. At first I wasn't sure about the interviews, but before I knew it, I was at the end, wanting more. The radio transcribes were unique too and all the bits fit the fast paced motion of the story.
I enjoyed the dips into history between China, Korea, and the US. Enjoyed the fantasy angles and the believability dead-on. Loved the typical southern law man out of all the interviewees. Someone one else mentioned it, but the EOTWAWKI bits had me laughing.
My biggest complaint is sometimes we didn't know whose interview we were reading at first. It wasn't consistent, but a few here and there, I just didn't know who it was until question three or four. Maybe I overlooked them; I read fast and sometimes that happens. I'll keep reading. I hope (and assume) we win the war!
I received this book as a Member Giveaway on LibraryThing.
I am a fan of dragons. I tend to think of them as intelligent and indifferent to humanity. That being said, I still found this book to be a great read. I love the style of a series of interviews about the topic of the Dragon War. If you have seen Dragons: A Fantasy Made Real, by Discovery Channel, you will have a great idea of the presentation of this book.
Despite being against my general beliefs about dragons, I'm interested to see where this series goes. Good work.
DRAKE an Oral History of the Dragon War, was by far one of the more interesting books I've read this year. I found the odd style in which it was written rather appealing. Like a good news report, you are drawn into each and every interview as the book delves deeper and into how the Dragon War began. I have to give the author kudos for making the Drake emergence seem very much like a real event.
This book has a slow, little boring start, but when you get through that it id totally worth your time, it is refreshing that there are no star characters but it is done in interview style, seen from more points of view. When you like dragons it is a must read. Very well written, sort of horror but not gory details. Overall a book I do recommend.
Great twist on the apocalypse theme that is so prevalent now. I hate zombie books so this was right up my alley. Nice lead in for the series. Hopefully the other books will add more meat to this fantasy tale.
