Due to the slow pace and how the first volume was written, I did not expect this to take an eerie turn so fast.
If the previous book mostly dealt with Mizuki’s issue, in this one we get to see more from the other characters. Mainly Mitsuru, Shimizu, and Akihiko. It really highlights how complicated life is to a teenager, and a life that may seem perfect can hide pretty dark issues beneath the surface. The portrayal of complex emotions such as guilt, inadequacy, or emptiness is done so nicely as the writing really goes deep into each character’s psyche, so I enjoyed this a lot even if the pace continues to be slow.
Strange, creepy things are starting to happen in this book. Some of the characters are beginning to remember who committed suicide on the day of the culture festival, but it’s a mystery that remains unresolved for now. If anything, it actually brings more questions than answers. I’m so glad I waited for all the volumes to come out before picking this up, so now I can just continue to the next one.
