Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mary Towne grew up in Long Island, California, and Massachusetts. She was associated with the Institute of Children's Literature as an instructor and consultant.
My rating is based on my memory of loving this book that I read in grade 6 or 7 (about 35 years ago). I think it's because my love of traveling and adventure has been in me since I was a child (despite never having travelled then). I remember copying her (crossing her legs) and hoping that I too can be transported. I should read it again to see if my memory is accurate.
Like magic this book appeared on my holds shelf, though I have no memory of requesting it (though I must have!), and had never heard of it before--but it was a very enjoyable reading experience, somewhat reminiscent of the Edgar Eager books.
